PRIOR TO THIS ROLE, I ACTUALLY WORKED WITH HORRY COUNTY SCHOOLS AS THE CHIEF ACADEMIC OFFICER FOR 11 YEARS.
I LEFT THERE AND WENT TO VIRGINIA, LOUDOUN COUNTY, VIRGINIA, JUST OUTSIDE WASHINGTON, DC AND I WAS THERE TWO YEARS.
ILLNESS IN MY FAMILY, BROUGHT ME BACK TO THE CAROLINAS, AND I WAS DEPUTY SUPERINTENDENT IN CHARLESTON ALL BEFORE TAKING THE ROLE WITH THE CONSORTIUM.
LOWCOUNTRY EDUCATION CONSORTIUM IS ONE OF SIX EDUCATIONAL SERVICE AGENCIES IN SOUTH CAROLINA.
AND OUR CONSORTIUM ACTUALLY GOT IT STARTED AROUND 2017.
WHEN THEY STARTED, THEY ACTUALLY WANTED TO WORK ON ASSESSMENTS AND

BUT DURING COVID, THE GOAL OF THE CONSORTIUM PIVOTED, THEY IMMEDIATELY, AS A GROUP OF SUPERINTENDENTS WANTED TO COME TOGETHER AND FIGURE OUT HOW THEY COULD DO AN ONLINE PROGRAM, A FULL-TIME ONLINE PROGRAM THAT WAS SHARED ACROSS DISTRICT BOUNDARIES.
SO THAT'S HOW LOW COUNTRY VIRTUAL GOT ITS START.
WE HAVE ABOUT 200 STUDENTS IN OUR PROGRAM FROM GRADES FIVE THROUGH NINE.
WE'VE EVER BEEN, UM, ALMOST COMPLETELY FULL BY THIS TIME OF THE YEAR.
WE'RE USUALLY FULL BY MARCH OR APRIL, BUT WE ARE ALMOST COMPLETELY FILLED WITH ALL THE SEATS THAT WERE RESERVED.
SO WE REALLY SEE OUR GOAL, UM, TO, IS TO SUPPORT THOSE DISTRICTS IN WHATEVER GOALS THEY SET IN THE ONLINE LEARNING SPACE.
AND SO FAR WHAT THEY'VE TARGETED, THEY WANT US TO DO THIS FULL-TIME PROGRAM BECAUSE THEY WANNA RECOUP STUDENTS THAT MIGHT HAVE LEFT THE DISTRICT FOR OTHER OPTIONS.
A LOT OF FAMILIES NOW WANT FLEXIBILITY.
AND THE FIVE THROUGH NINE FULL-TIME PROGRAM OFFERS SOME FLEXIBILITY.
THEY ALSO WANTED US TO DEVELOP COURSES AT THE REQUEST.
SO WE RUN COURSE, UH, DEVELOPMENT TEAMS OR INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN TEAMS. WE PULL FOLKS OUT OF THE DISTRICTS.
WE PULL FOLKS FROM THAT, UM, LOW COUNTRY VIRTUAL SIDE, LOW COUNTRY EDUCATION CONSORTIUM SIDE.
AND WE COME TOGETHER AROUND THE TABLE AND TRY TO DEVELOP HIGH QUALITY COURSES.
AND THEN THE THIRD AREA IS TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE FOR COURSES.
WE DO PROVIDE SOME DISTRICTS WITH TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE.
