UM, AND SO THE NEXT PHASE OF THAT WAS THERE ANCILLARY MATERIALS THAT GO ALONG WITH THE CURRICULUM.
UM, SO JUST ABOUT EVERY SINGLE LESSON, WHICH THERE'S 16 LESSONS IN MIDDLE SCHOOL AND 24 LESSONS IN HIGH SCHOOL HAVE A POWERPOINT AS WELL AS OTHER ANCILLARY MATERIALS LIKE WORKSHEETS AND HANDOUTS FOR STUDENTS TO USE.
SO THE HEALTH ADVISORY COMMITTEE REVIEWED ALL OF THAT.
UM, I DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW MANY DOCUMENTS.
AND SO, UM, BASICALLY, UH, WE'RE HERE TO SHARE WHAT WE HAVE FOUND IN OUR RECOMMENDATION, UM, THAT WE WOULD LIKE TO PUT FORTH SO THAT YOU GUYS COULD THEN TAKE IT TO THE BOARD FOR APPROVAL SO THAT TEACHERS HAVE ACCESS TO THE RESOURCES THAT COME ALONG WITH THE TEXTBOOK.

WE PUT ONE IN PLACE AT BEAUFORT MIDDLE SCHOOL, AND THE QUESTION WAS POSED TO ME THAT NIGHT, WHAT IF ANOTHER SCHOOL WANTS IT? AND I SAID, IF ANOTHER SCHOOL WANTS, IF IT'S THE SAME GRADE LEVEL, WE'RE GOOD.
THEY'LL HAVE TO WRITE A SYLLABUS.
SO IN YOUR PACKET FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL, YOU WILL NOTICE THAT THERE'S A NEW SIXTH GRADE AND A NEW SEVENTH GRADE SYLLABUS FOR HILTON HEAD MIDDLE SCHOOL.
UM, BEAUFORT MIDDLE SCHOOL SUBMITTED THEIRS LAST YEAR, SO WE CAN FOLLOW IN ON THAT.
BUT, UM, IT'LL BE A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT COURSE AT HILTON HEAD MIDDLE SCHOOL TO MEET THAT POPULATION.
I 49 REQUIRES THAT WE COME TO THE BOARD WITH ANY LOCAL BOARD APPROVED COURSES THAT OUR SCHOOLS SEND FORWARD FOR APPROVAL.
THIS COMES TO US AFTER THE TEACHER HAS STARTED TO DEVELOP THE COURSE, A SYLLABUS HAS BEEN DEVELOPED AND THE PRINCIPAL HAS SAID, YES, THIS IS SOMETHING I WANT A PART OF MY SCHOOL.
SO THAT PROCESS HAS BEEN DONE.
THE PURPOSE OF AVID IS TO PROVIDE A FOUNDATION FOR KIDS TO MOVE INTO HIGHER LEVEL COURSES.
IT ALSO GIVES THEM, UM, A MORE COGNITIVELY, COGNITIVELY COMPLEX CONTENT THAT THEY CAN DIG INTO.
UM, I THINK IT'S GONNA BE A REALLY GOOD FIT FOR HILTON HEAD MIDDLE SCHOOL THIS YEAR.
THEY ARE GOING TO HAVE THE APPLICATION PROCESS, AND I DON'T KNOW IF YOU REMEMBER LAST YEAR WE TALKED ABOUT THAT WITH BEFORD MIDDLE.
AND THEY ARE HAVING A 2.0 GRADE POINT AVERAGE AS A REQUIREMENT FOR THAT COURSE.
THEY ARE DOING MANY OF THE SAME THINGS THAT WE SAW AT BUFORD MIDDLE SCHOOL.

THE STATE ALSO REQUIRES THAT ANY LOCAL BOARD APPROVED COURSE THAT WE PUT IN FRONT OF OUR BOARD HAS TO BE ATTACHED TO SOME SOUTH CAROLINA STANDARDS.
AND SOMETIMES WE'RE LOOKING AND WE'RE TRYING TO FIT.
OKAY, WHERE DOES THIS MEET? THAT IS NOT AN ISSUE WITH ABBOTT BECAUSE IT IS ALMOST EXCESSIVELY ALIGNED WITH OUR ELA STANDARDS.
SO THE PERFECT FIT, THE COURSE AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL IS GONNA BE TAUGHT BY, UM, ANDREA MORMAN AND MS. NORMAN IS CERTIFIED IN FIELD SCHOOL LEVEL SCIENCE.
SHE IS ALSO READ TO SUCCEED, ENDORSE.
UM, SHE IS ALSO AN IB MYP TRAINED EDUCATOR.
SO SHE'S GONNA BE ABLE TO PULL ALL OF THAT TOGETHER INTO THIS COURSE FOR THE STUDENTS.

EACH ABBOTT WILL BE AN ELECTIVE COURSE.
