OUR GOAL IS TO SHOW YOUR PATHWAYS DECISION MAKING PROCESS THAT'S UTILIZED WITHIN GRID TECHNICAL EDUCATION.

IT'LL BE WHAT IS CAREER AND TECH ED, AND HOW WE HAVE IT STRUCTURED HERE IN BEAUFORT COUNTY.

AND THEN WE'LL LOOK AT WHAT ARE SOME QUALITY COMPONENTS THAT MAKE FOR GOOD PATHWAYS, SOLID PATHWAYS.

AND THEN AS DR.

STRATUS NOTED, WHERE ARE WE GOING WITH THIS? WHAT'S IT GONNA LOOK FIVE TO 10 YEARS FROM NOW? AND, UH, THERE'S SOME MAJOR, UM, THINGS ON THE HORIZON THAT THE STATE IS MAKING THAT I THINK IT'S GONNA BE A POSITIVE IMPACT.

UH, AND SO WE, WE'VE, UH, GAVE IT, YOU KNOW, EDUCATION, WE GIVE IT

THEMES OR, OR, SO WE'RE CALLING IT, UH, EXPLORERS, DRIVES, AND ACCELERATES KIND OF ALONG THE LINES OF, UH, A VEHICLE BECAUSE, YOU KNOW, WE'RE HELPING OUR YOUNG PEOPLE TO NAVIGATE THE WORLD OF COLLEGE AND CAREER AND, AND, UH, FUTURE WORK.

AND, UH, I WOULD SAY FOR OUR NEW BOARD MEMBERS, MS. FRAZIER AND DR. CARTER, IT'S, UH, IT TRULY IS FOR ALL KIDS.

IT IT CAN BE FOR THAT STUDENT WHO WANTS TO GO STRAIGHT TO WORK WHEN THEY GRADUATE.

IT CAN BE FOR STUDENTS WHO WANNA GO ON COLLEGE.

AND OUR PATHWAYS CAN ALSO SERVE OUR, OUR STUDENTS WHO WANNA ENROLL IN THE MILITARY.

SO IT, IT REALLY IS, WE, WE SERVE THE GAMUT.

WE'RE VERY, UM, INDICATIVE OF OUR STUDENT POPULATION AS FAR AS DEMOGRAPHICS.

AND WE ARE AVERAGING RIGHT NOW, UH, WE HAVE A LITTLE OVER 8,000 COURSE ENROLLMENTS AND ABOUT 4,000 STUDENTS, UH, THAT TAKE ONE OR MORE UNDUPLICATED COUNT.

SO IT'S A SIGNIFICANT NUMBER THAT WE'RE SERVING.

AND IF YOU'LL SEE TO THE SIDE, THOSE ARE JUST, YOU'LL HEAR OF THIS, THOSE ARE KEY COMPONENTS THAT IN ORDER FOR US TO RECEIVE FEDERAL, STATE DOLLARS, UH, THESE ARE THINGS THAT WE NEED TO INCORPORATE.

SO IT'S NOT JUST A ONE DONE COURSE, IT CAN BE FOR A LOT OF OUR STUDENTS, BUT, UH, TRULY THEY CAN, UH, STAY WITH A PATHWAY OF INTEREST AND HAVE SOME OF THESE AREAS THAT THEY CAN FOCUS ON TO HELP THEM HAVE A QUALITY EXPERIENCE BY THE TIME THEY GRADUATE.

SO WE'LL HIT ON, UH, UH, SEVERAL OF THOSE.

SO WE'LL START WITH THE EXPLORERS.

EXPLORERS IS OUR MIDDLE GRADES.

UM, THE REASON WE SAY MIDDLE GRADES, WE RECEIVE FUNDING FROM THE FEDERAL AND STATE, UH, CTE GRANTS THAT START WITH SIXTH GRADE.

NOW, OBVIOUSLY, WE ARE HELPING DO SOME AWARENESS WITH OUR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL COUNSELORS AND SO ON.

BUT AS FAR AS ACTUAL COURSE OFFERINGS THAT STATE APPROVED, THEY START IN THE SIXTH GRADE.

AND IT'S TRULY ABOUT HELPING THEM TO START FIGURING OUT, WELL, YOU KNOW, WHAT, WHAT ARE THEY LIKE, WHAT ARE THEY INTERESTED IN? HOW IS THAT GONNA TIE INTO WHAT THEY TAKE AT THE HIGH SCHOOL? UM, IT, WE HAVE SOME, UH, RESOURCES IN PLACE.

ONE OF 'EM IS CALLED PATH FULL, AND IT'S WHERE OUR STUDENTS CAN TAKE, UH, SEVERAL CAREER INTEREST INVENTORIES, AND THEN THAT HELPS THEM.

AND THE PARENTS HAVE SOME NICE REPORTS ABOUT WHERE THEY THINK THEY MIGHT, UH, WANNA TRY TO TAKE SOME HIGH SCHOOL COURSES THAT ALIGN TO THEIR, WHAT'S CALLED THE IGP.

AND THEN ANOTHER AREA THAT WE FOCUS ON AND WILL CONTINUE TO INCREASE IS STEM.

ALL THINGS STEM.

SO WE HAVE SEVERAL EXPLORATORY COURSES THAT STUDENTS CAN TAKE ON HOW STUFF WORKS, HOW, HOW DOES A, HOW IS A BRIDGE MADE, HOW, HOW IT'S A LITTLE BIT OF CODING AND ROBOTICS.

UH, WHAT CAN THAT LEAD TO FOR PROGRAMMING.

UM, AND THEN THERE'S A, A NATIONAL CURRICULUM PROVIDER CALLED PROJECT LEAD THE WAY.

UH, IT'S A, A VERY WELL KNOWN.

AND WE ARE A PROJECT LEAD THE WAY DISTRICT.

AND SO WE USE THAT FOR A LOT OF OUR MIDDLE SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL CURRICULUM.

THEN WE START TO REALLY GET INTO WHERE WE'RE DRIVING STUDENTS TO HELP THEM TO GET ACROSS TO GRADUATE.

SO, UM, AS YOU KNOW, DR. RODRIGUEZ, I'M SURE YOU'VE HEARD THIS, 75, 75, 92.

UM, WELL, I REALLY THINK OUR CAREER IN TECH ED OPTIONS HELPED CONTRIBUTE TO THAT.

FOR EXAMPLE, OUR GRADUATION RATE LAST YEAR FOR CAREER AND TAKE ED KIDS WHO STARTED NINTH GRADE WITH HER COHORT, THEY TOOK CTE PATHWAYS.

AND BY THE TIME THEY GRADUATED, WE HAD A 98% PASS RATE.

AND IF YOU SAY, WELL, KAREN, THE DEVIL'S IN THE DETAILS, WELL, THAT WAS 971 STUDENTS THAT STARTED IN NINTH GRADE WITH HER COHORT, AND THEY HAD SOME TYPE OF TECHNICAL CAREERS FOCUS AND THEY GRADUATED.

SO TYPICALLY STATEWIDE, REALLY NATIONWIDE, STUDENTS WHO PARTICIPATE IN THESE PATHWAYS TEND TO WANNA STICK WITH IT BECAUSE OF SOME OF THE ENGAGING TOOLS.

UM, WE, UH, UH, HAVE, UH, MULTIPLE PATHWAYS.

WE HAVE 25 ACROSS ALL OF OUR SIX HIGH SCHOOLS AND AN ADDITIONAL EIGHT THAT IS SHARED WITH THEIR BUFORD, JASPER, UH, ACADEMY FOR CAREER EXCELLENCE.

FROM OUR CAREER CENTER.

WE HAVE, AS FAR AS OUR STRUCTURE, UH, OVER THE YEARS, WE'VE BUILT A WING OR A BUILDING ON THE CAMPUS OF MAY RIVER HIGH SCHOOL AND BATTERY CREEK HIGH SCHOOL.

AND WHEN WE TALK ABOUT THE REFERENDUM, YOU'RE GONNA HEAR HOW THAT'S GONNA, UH, EXPAND.

AND THEN, OF COURSE, CERTIFICATIONS ARE IMPORTANT.

UM, WE, WE WANT OUR STUDENTS WHEN THEY WALK ACROSS THE STATE, NOT ONLY TO GET THAT HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA, BUT TO HAVE SOME INDUSTRY RECOGNIZED CERTIFICATIONS AS PART OF PORTFOLIO.

UM, ALSO YOU MIGHT HEAR OF DECA OR HOSA OR FBLA SKILLS.

THIS IS ACTUAL FEDERAL AND STATE FUNDING, AS WELL AS LOCAL DOLLARS THAT HELP OUR STUDENTS IF THEY WANNA COMPETE LOCALLY AND NATIONALLY.

UM, ONE OF THE PICTURES THAT WAS ON THAT FIRST SLIDE WAS OF A MAY RIVER HIGH SCHOOL, UH, STUDENT FEMALE.

SO YOU CAN ACTUALLY SEE THE, THE TWO, UM, TWIN TOWERS.

UH, HER TEACHER INSTRUCTOR, MR. CHILDRE, SAID SHE SHOULD HAVE GOT FIRST PLACE.

WE, WE, WE AGREED WITH THEM.

UM, THERE ARE SOME EXCITING THINGS TAKING PLACE AT THE STATE LEVEL THAT'S ALSO ALIGNING NICELY WITH WHAT WE'RE DOING WITH OUR LOCAL REFERENDUM WORK.

SO ONE THING IS IT'S AN UPDATED FRAMEWORK.

UH, RIGHT NOW, UH, WE USE A TOOL, UH, UH, TO, FOR, FOR STUDENTS TO SAY, I WANNA TAKE A WELDING CLASS FOR COURSES OR AUTOMOTIVE, OR A BUSINESS AND MARKETING COURSE.

IT'S PART OF COURSES THAT STATE APPROVED, AND IT'S SURROUNDED BY CLUSTERS.

UM, THE DEPARTMENT OF LABOR USES THEM TO MANAGE, UH, DIFFERENT WORK, UM, CATEGORIES, WELL, THAT HAVEN'T BEEN U UPDATED FOR 50 YEARS.

SO, UH, THAT IS HUGE BECAUSE IT'S GONNA IMPACT SEVERAL WAYS OF HOW WE HAVE TO REPORT, BUT ALSO IT'S GONNA BE MORE UPDATED, MORE USER FRIENDLY.

SO WE'LL TAKE A LOOK AT THAT.

ANOTHER HUGE THING THAT'S HAPPENING STARTING NEXT YEAR, J-R-O-T-C, WHICH, UH, WE'VE ALWAYS FELT IS IMPORTANT FOR OUR YOUNG PEOPLE.

AND, AND, AND FOR, UH, UH, BUILDING THOSE, UH, LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES.

THEY'RE GOING TO BECOME OFFICIALLY AS A PATHWAY UNDER CAREER TECH ED STATEWIDE.

SO THAT'S GONNA BE A POSITIVE.

AND WE'VE ACTUALLY BEEN INCLUDING THEM FOR THE PAST COUPLE OF YEARS WITH OUR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND SO ON.

UM, ANOTHER AREA THAT'S, UH, I'M EXCITED ABOUT, UH, ONE OF OUR HIGH SCHOOLS, BLUFFTON HIGH SCHOOL IS SELECTED AS ONE OF, UH, 30 SITES ACROSS THE STATE FOR AN ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE PILOT.

WE HAVE SELECTED TEACHER THERE.

AND SHOUT OUT TO THE PRINCIPAL, MR. MATT HALL, UH, FOR BEING WILLING TO DO THIS.

AND THEN ONCE WE WORK THROUGH THE PILOT NEXT YEAR, THEN WE'RE EXCITED, WE'LL EXPAND THAT TO ALL SIX HIGH SCHOOLS.

UM, SO YOU'LL BE HEARING MORE ABOUT THAT IN THE FUTURE.

AND THEN ANOTHER NEW INITIATIVE LOCAL WISE IS WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT.

UH, LAST YEAR, THIS ACADEMIC COMMITTEE AND BOARD, UH, APPROVED FOR WHAT'S CALLED LOCAL BOARD WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT THROUGH, UH, EITHER TCL OR A LOCAL BUSINESS ORGANIZATION.

SO, UM, WE HAVE OUR FIRST, UH, GROUP GRADUATING FROM BE MEMORIAL.

I'LL SHOW YOU A A SLIDE OF THAT IN A SECOND.

AND THEN ALSO WE HAVE STUDENTS WHO GO OVER TO TCL TO DO THEIR CERTIFIED NURSING ASSISTANT, BUT NOW THEY CAN ALSO GET A WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT CREDIT.

WE WANNA EXPAND THAT TO IT STARTING, UH, IN THE FALL OF NEXT YEAR, UH, AS WELL AS OUR TRADES.

AND THEN LASTLY, WE'LL, WE'LL TALK ABOUT SOME OF THE REFERENDUM PROJECTS.

THAT'S GONNA BE OUR BUILDING CONSTRUCTION, UH, TRADES, UM, ENGINEERING TOMORROW SOLUTIONS.

THAT'S, THAT'S OUR, OUR PRE-ENGINEERING PROGRAMS THAT WE HAVE.

SO I LIKE HOW THEY'RE GONNA PACKAGE THIS.

IT'S GOING TO MAKE IT MORE USER FRIENDLY FOR STUDENTS.

AND THEN IF YOU LOOK ON THE NEXT SLIDE, THIS IS A CROSSWALK.

I THOUGHT IT'D BE HELPFUL, UH, FOR EVERYONE TO SEE.

ON THE LEFT, YOU HAVE WHAT OUR CURRENT CLUSTER, THE FALL, AND AGAIN, THESE ARE STATE APPROVED, AND THEY HAVE MULTIPLE COURSES UNDERNEATH THEM THAT STUDENTS CAN TAKE ADVANTAGE OF.

AND WHY WE, I KEEP REITERATING STATE APPROVED IS BECAUSE WE WANT THESE STUDENTS TO BE ABLE TO PUT THAT ON THEIR HIGH SCHOOL TRANSCRIPT FOR VARIOUS REASONS.

SO ON THE RIGHT, YOU'LL SEE THE CHANGES.

AND, UH, WHERE YOU HAVE IN GREEN, IT'S PRETTY COOL IN THAT, UH, INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIES THAT'LL BECOME DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES, YOUR BUSINESS, YOUR MARKETING, THOSE ARE GONNA BE WHAT THEY CALL CROSS, CROSS, UH, SECTORS, WHICH MAKES SENSE.

IF I'M GONNA GO INTO WELDING AND I WANNA EVENTUALLY O OWN MY OWN WELDING BUSINESS, IF I TAKE AN ENTREPRENEURSHIP COURSE, THAT CAN COUNT IN MY PATHWAY.

SO, OR IF I WANNA LEARN HOW TO MARKET, WHATEVER IT IS THAT I'M GONNA DO.

AND OBVIOUSLY THE DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES IS HUGE BECAUSE EVERY JOB THAT WE CAN THINK OF NOW HAS SOME TYPE OF ADVANCING TECHNOLOGIES.

UM, ANOTHER HUGE ONE I'LL CALL TO YOUR ATTENTION.

UM, STEM WILL NO LONGER BE A CLUSTER UNTO ITSELF.

THEY'RE ROLLING THAT UNDER ADVANCED MANUFACTURING.

SO, UH, AGAIN,

AND THEN ON THIS NEXT SLIDE, THIS JUST GIVES YOU A DEFINITION OF WHAT THE CERTIFICATIONS ARE GOING TO LOOK LIKE FOR OUR ACCOUNTABILITY.

SO, JUST SO YOU KNOW, AS BOARD MEMBERS FOR THE REPORT CARDS THAT YOU HEAR ABOUT, UM, THEY'VE ONLY HAD TO BE A CAREER AND TAKE A COMPLETER WITH ONE INDUSTRY CERTIFICATION.

SO STARTING THIS YEAR WITH NINTH GRADE AND NINTH AND 10TH GRADERS NEXT YEAR, WHICH WE'LL HAVE TIME TO IMPLEMENT IT, UH, THERE WILL BE MULTIPLE CERTIFICATIONS BASED ON THEIR PATHWAY THAT, UH, THEY'RE GONNA ENCOURAGE.

AND WE'RE IN GOOD SHAPE BECAUSE WE HAD OVER 1400, UH, CERTIFICATIONS EARNED LAST YEAR.

SO I FEEL GOOD THAT WE'RE GONNA BE, UH, ON TARGET WITH THAT.

IF YOU'LL TAKE A LOOK AT, UH, THIS SLIDE, UH, ON BUSINESS COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS, I CAN'T STRESS ENOUGH JUST HOW IMPORTANT, UH, THEY ARE TO THE SUCCESS OF OUR STUDENTS AND OUR TEACHERS.

UH, WE HAVE A MANY, UH, UH, LOCAL EMPLOYERS, UH, THEY SERVE IN DIFFERENT WAYS.

THEY'LL COME INTO OUR CLASSROOMS TO SPEAK TO OUR STUDENTS.

THEY PARTICIPATE IN A LOT OF OUR CAREER FAIRS THAT OUR CAREER DEVELOPMENT FACILITATORS, UH, DO.

UH, BUT WE JUST, WE CAN'T SAY ENOUGH ABOUT THOSE PARTNERSHIPS.

AND THEY PROVIDE FOR MYSELF AND, AND MY COORDINATOR, RALPH TY, AN OPPORTUNITY FOR FEEDBACK ON, ARE WE ON THE RIGHT TRACK? THIS IS JUST TWO EXAMPLES.

AND THEY WILL EARN EITHER THEIR PATIENT CARE TECHNICIAN CREDENTIAL OR THEIR CERTIFIED MEDICAL ASSISTANT CREDENTIAL.

AND I CAN'T SAY ENOUGH ABOUT BE FOR MEMORIAL.

THEY'VE BEEN GOING ON TUESDAYS AND THURSDAYS.

UH, THEY WILL TRAIN WITH THE, THE, THE NURSES AND, UH, HEALTHCARE PEOPLE THERE.

THEY HAVE HIGH-END MANNEQUINS THAT THEY HAVE BEEN WORKING WITH.

AND IT'S NOT THAT THE, UH, SCHOOL DISTRICT DOES NOT WANT TO DO THAT.

WE JUST DON'T HAVE THE FUNDS TO DO THAT ON, NOT ON THE BASIS THAT THESE, UH, SOME OF THESE KIDS WOULD WANT TO DO.

BUT I DO SAY, UM, THAT OUR CHILDREN STILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO ATTEND DIFFERENT PROGRAMS. THEY REALLY DO.

UH, I CAN'T REMEMBER, 'CAUSE IT WAS BACK IN 92, MAYBE ROBIN CAN HELP, BUT, UH, WE DIDN'T HAVE THE FUNDS THAT WE HAVE NOW.

UH, THE KIDS WHO WENT TO ACE WENT THERE FROM THEIR HIGH SCHOOLS, THE BUSES TOOK THEM, AND WE, YOU KNOW, BROUGHT THEM BACK.

BUT AS FAR AS, UH, TAKING THEM TO OTHER VENUES, UM, WE JUST DIDN'T HAVE, UH, THE BUSES OR THE MONEY.

UM, AND ALL OF OUR ADMINISTRATIVE REGULATIONS, WE WILL BE PUTTING IN THE STATEMENT, UM, THE ADMINISTRATIVE REGULATIONS SETS FOR THE SUPERINTENDENT'S EXPECTATIONS, AND THEN WHAT ARE HIS EXPECTATIONS.

UM, SO THAT'S THE FIRST CHANGE IN SECTION ONE AND SECTION TWO.

UM, THE NON-DISCRIMINATION CLAUSE THAT WE HAVE BEEN PUTTING INTO ALL OF OUR ADMINISTRATIVE REGULATIONS HAS A LITTLE BIT OF AN UPDATE, UM, TO REFLECT SOME OF THE CURRENT DIRECTIVES THAT WE'RE UNDER STATE NATIONALLY.

THEN SECTION THREE, SUBSECTION TWO, WE ADDED THE STATEMENT.

AND, AND THIS MAY NOT HAVE BEEN TOTALLY NECESSARY, BUT WE FELT AS A DISTRICT IT WAS.

AND WHAT WE ADDED WAS SOUTH CAROLINA STANDARDS.

IT HAD JUST SAID BEFORE THAT WE WOULD INSTRUCTIONALLY PLAN, WE WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT WE ARE FOCUSING ON THE SOUTH CAROLINA STANDARDS, AND THAT IS WHAT WE DO IN THIS DISTRICT.

SO WE INCLUDED THAT PIECE, SECTION THREE, SUBSECTION 10.

WE ALSO ADDED AN ADDITION.

AND THIS ALIGNS WITH OUR MISSION AT BEAUFORT COUNTY TO HAVE COLLABORATIVE PLANNING PROFESSIONAL, UH, LEARNING COMMUNITIES IN EVERY SCHOOL.

AND THOSE ARE GOING REALLY WELL.

WE'RE SEEING A LOT OF GAINS, UM, COMING OUT OF THOSE.

SO WE WANTED TO MAKE SURE WE ALSO ADDED THAT COLLABORATIVE LANGUAGE HERE.

WE EXPECT, UM, AND OUR SUPERINTENDENT'S EXPECTATION IS THAT WE ARE COLLABORATIVELY PLANNING AS PROFESSIONALS TO MEET THE NEEDS OF ALL OF OUR STUDENTS.

AND THAT IS IS TWO I SEVEN.

AND THIS IS A GOOD ONE TO FOLLOW THAT ONE BECAUSE IT, THIS CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT, ADOPTION AND REVIEW.

AND, UH, WE WERE FORTUNATE, I BELIEVE AT THE LAST MEETING WHERE WE HAD DR.

JASON COME AND SHARE AN ADOPTION WITH US AT THAT TIME.

SO THAT'S KIND OF FRESH IN OUR MIND.

AND WE'RE MOVING INTO CURRICULUM WRITING.

SO THAT, THAT'S COMING UP.

UH, AGAIN, SECTION ONE ON THIS ONE, WE ADDED THE, UM, SUPERINTENDENT EXPECTATION IS BEING SET FORTH BY THIS ADMINISTRATIVE RACE SIMULATION.

WE MADE THAT REQUIRED DIRECTIVE CHANGE IN SECTION TWO TO OUR NON-DISCRIMINATION CLAUSE.

IN SECTION THREE, WE REMOVED THE STATEMENT OF IMPLEMENTATION AND CHANGE AND PROCESSES.

SECTION FIVE, SUBSECTION A, WE DID A REVISION, UM, TO ALIGN TO PERSONALIZED INSTRUCTION FOR MANY YEARS.

THE STATE PUSHED, WE'RE GONNA DIFFERENTIATE WHAT WE DO WITHIN THE CLASSROOM.

WE WANT TO DIFFERENTIATE WHAT WE DO, WHICH MEANS WE'RE GONNA DO IT IN DIFFERENT WAYS SO THAT ALL KIDS CAN HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY.

WHAT WE FOUND IS SOMETIMES KIDS WERE GETTING LOST IN THAT WHAT WE REALLY NEEDED TO DO WAS PERSONALIZE THE LEARNING FOR EACH STUDENT.

SO WE CHANGED THAT LANGUAGE TO, TO ALIGN WITH THE STATE SECTION FIVE, SUBSECTION B.

WE ALSO MADE A CHANGE THERE TO INCLUDE THE STUDENT'S ACADEMIC STRENGTHS THAT LEADS IT.

BEFORE WE HAD JUST STATED CAREER IN THIS, AND WE WENT BACK AND ADDED COLLEGE AND MILITARY AS WELL.

UM, BECAUSE ALL THREE OF THOSE ARE A FOCUS FOR OUR CHILDREN.

AND THEN WE ADDED THE, UM, COHERENT GOVERNMENT MANUAL TO ALL OF THEM.

AND, UM, SOME OF YOU KNOW THAT I BRING THESE FORWARD QUITE FREQUENTLY.
