CLOSED CAPTIONING PROVIDED BY BEAUFORT COUNTY.

I'VE GOT WITH ME, RA ANTONACCI OGDEN.
SO AT THE END OF MARCH, SHE WILL TAKE OVER MY ROLE AND, UH, SO WE'RE GETTING HER FEET WET A LITTLE BIT WITH THE MEETINGS AND STUFF.
SHE'S ALSO AN ASSISTANT CABINET ADMINISTRATOR.
BRANDON WHITENER, ASSISTANT ATHLETICS MANAGER, AVER ALEX HUNT, ATHLETICS MANAGER AT BUFORD ROCK VAUGHN, ATHLETIC SUPERVISOR.
BEERS BARRY, INSTRUMENTAL RECREATION COORDINATOR.
LINDSAY LING, ASSISTANT MANAGER, SENIOR PROGRAM.

MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN, BOTH NORTH AND SOUTH.
BRIAN FINLEY, COMMISSIONER LOW COUNTRY.
MARJORIE FELMAN, BRIAN'S WIFE.
JACKIE COBB, CO COMMISSIONER OF LOW COUNTRY.
UH, BRUCE JAGER, UH, SOUTH OF BROAD AS WELL.
SO, UH, WELCOME EVERYONE, UM, IS BUFFY CAN BEARA ON THE PHONE.
[4. Approval of Agenda]
UH, GET SOMEONE TO, UH, MAKE A MOTION TO APPROVE THE AGENDA? SO MOVED.[5. Public Comment]
IS, UH, PUBLIC COMMENT.AND, UM, UM, I THINK, UH, THE PICKLE BALLERS, RIGHT? YOU'RE GONNA COME UP DURING THE PUBLIC COMMENT.
MY NAME IS BRIAN FENLAND, AGAIN FROM LOW COUNTRY PICKLEBALL LEAGUES.
UM, WE WERE PRIVILEGED AND FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO RUN A FUNDRAISER, CHARITY BACK IN, UH, NOVEMBER 16TH, 17TH AT BURTON WELLS.
AND, UH, FIRST AND FOREMOST, I'D LIKE TO SAY THANK YOU TO THE COMMITTEE, UH, FOR YOUR GENEROSITY IN ALLOWING US TO RUN OUR TOURNAMENT THROUGH THE, UH, THROUGH BURTON WELLS.
WE HAD A SUCCESSFUL TWO DAYS, 16TH AND 17TH.
UM, I DO HAVE A BREAKDOWN SHEET HERE.
I WAS ALSO PREPARED WITH A POWERPOINT PRESENTATION, BUT I'M GONNA TAKE UP YOUR TIME WITH, UH, WITH THAT.
UM, ESSENTIALLY I'LL JUST GIVE YOU A RECAP OF WHAT WE EARNED FOR, UH, OUR CHARITY EVENT.
IT WAS, UH, WE HOSTED OR SPONSORED, UH, BLUFF AND SELF.
WE DID A FOOD DRIVE FOR SECOND HELPINGS AND, UM, WE DID A FUNDRAISER FOR FAMILY PROMISE.
AND IN THOSE TWO DAYS, WE RAISED APPROXIMATELY A THOUSAND POUNDS OF FOOD FOR THE SECOND HELPINGS GROUP.
AND WE RAISED AND PRESENTED A CHECK TO TAMIKA BLAKE, THE DIRECTOR OF FAMILY PROMISE, FOR $12,687.
[00:05:01]
IT BY MYSELF.OBVIOUSLY JACKIE HELP, AS MY ASSISTANT COMMISSIONER DID ALL THE STATS AND DATA.
UH, IF YOU GENTLEMEN NEED THAT, UH, WE CAN PROVIDE THAT WITH YOU AS WELL.
BUT I DO HAVE A COST BREAKDOWN SHEET THAT, UH, YOU HAD, UH, REQUESTED PRIOR TO OUR TOURNAMENT, AND I TOLD YOU I'D BE BACK GREAT.
TO PRESENT YOU WITH THOSE NUMBERS.
SO, UM, I COULD READ 'EM OFF TO YOU.
OUR REGISTRATION FEES, WE TOTALED $12,800.
WE HAD A DROPBOX FOR ADDITIONAL DONATIONS AT THE TOURNAMENT FOR TWO DAYS IN THAT DROPBOX, WE GATHERED ANOTHER $908, AND THEN WE, WE GARNERED SOME, UH, PICKLEBALL EQUIPMENT THAT WE AUCTIONED OFF, I SHOULD SAY, THAT WE RAFFLED OFF.
AND, UM, THAT WAS ANOTHER $970.
UH, THE LEAGUE EXPENSE WAS, UH, $1,900.
AND I HAVE THAT BROKEN DOWN ON THIS, UH, THE, THE SHEET AS WELL WITH, UH, WHERE THOSE FUNDS WENT AND WHAT THEY WERE USED FOR.
UH, BUT THE TOTAL TAKE, UH, DIRECTLY TO FAMILY PROMISE WAS, AS I SAID, $12,687.
WE'D LOVE TO RETURN AND TO OFFER ANOTHER FUNDRAISER, A CHARITY TOURNAMENT.
UM, WE WERE HOPING FOR THIS SPRING, IF THAT'S DOABLE, THE CHARITY WE'D LIKE TO FUND.
AND, UH, AND SPONSOR IS, UH, BLUFF IN, NO, I'M SORRY, IT'D BE SECOND HELPINGS.
WHAT WE FOUND OUT AFTER THE TOURNAMENT, JACKIE AND I WENT AND HAD A MEETING WITH SECOND HELPINGS AND DISCOVERED THAT THEY'RE THE PRIMARY SOURCE OF FOOD FOR ALL OF THE, THE, UM, ALL THE CHARITIES WITHIN THE, UH, LOW COUNTRY AREA.
THEY KIND OF COLLECT THE FOOD WITH THEIR FLEET OF TRUCKS, AND IF, IF LEFT IN SELF-HELP OR FAMILY PROMISE NEEDS FOOD, THEY'LL ACTUALLY GO TO, UH, TO SECOND HELPINGS AND, AND GATHER THAT FOOD FOR THEM.
UM, SO WITH THAT STATED, UM, WE'RE HOPEFULLY, UH, REQUESTING THAT WE COULD, UH, RETURN AGAIN AND RUN A TOURNAMENT IN THE SPRING.
WHAT I ALSO, WE ALSO COMMITTED TO SECOND HELPINGS IS THAT, UH, EVERY YEAR THEY HAVE A TURKEY DRIVE.
AND THIS YEAR, IN SPEAKING WITH 'EM, THEY HAD APPROXIMATELY 147 PEOPLE WITH ONLY ABOUT 46 TURKEYS TO GIVE OUT.
SO OUR COMMITMENT TO THEM IS TO DO A TURKEY DRIVE THROUGH THE LEAGUE, UH, PRIOR TO THANKSGIVING WHERE WE CAN GATHER ENOUGH FOOD OR ENOUGH TURKEY TO, TO ISSUE OUT TO EVERY SINGLE FAMILY THAT NEEDS IT MOVING FORWARD.
UM, WE'RE A LITTLE OVER 3000 MEMBERS STRONG.
WE HAVE A VERY, VERY, UM, CHARITABLE ORGANIZATION, MEANING OUR, OUR PEOPLE GIVE.
THEY, THEY TURNED UP IN DROVES.
WE HAD PEOPLE THAT SHOWED UP JUST TO DROP OFF FOOD.
WE HAD PEOPLE TO SHOW UP JUST TO DROP OFF CHECKS IN THE DROPBOX.
AND THEY WERE, THEY WERE LEAGUE MEMBERS.
WE WERE ALSO FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO HAVE PEOPLE THAT DON'T PLAY IN LEAGUE COME AND, AND PARTICIPATE IN OUR TOURNAMENT.
SO WE, WE WERE VERY FORTUNATE AND ONCE AGAIN, I WISH TO THANK, UH, BEAUFORT PARKS AND RECREATION COMMITTEE FOR ALLOWING US AND HELPING US GRACIOUSLY HELPING US, UH, TO RUN THIS TOURNAMENT.
AND WHO DID YOU INTERACT WITH ON, AT THE, AT THE PARKS AND REC LEVEL? BRANDON WHITNER.
SO THAT, THAT WORKED OUT WELL FOR EVERYBODY? YEAH, HE WAS MY HEAD CONTACT AND BRANDON COULDN'T DO ENOUGH THINGS AS WELL.
SO THAT EVERYTHING WENT SMOOTH AND, AND THEY LOVED OUR FACILITY.
THE, THE COMMENT WE GOT, UH, FROM MOST OF THE PEOPLE OFF THE 2 87 CORRIDOR IS A, THEY HAD NO IDEA THAT THIS FACILITY WAS THERE.
B HOW BEAUTIFUL IT WAS, AND C HOW CLOSE IT WAS.
WHEN PEOPLE SPEAK OF NORTH OF THE BROAD, THEY THINK THEY'VE GOTTA TRA TRAVEL AN HOUR TO GET HERE.
AND IT'S FROM MY HOME, MY DOOR TO HERE, IT'S A HALF HOUR.
SO FOR MOST PEOPLE IT WAS NO MORE THAN A HALF HOUR DRIVE.
AND, UM, IT WAS, WE, WE ENJOYED IT.
WE HAD A GREAT TURNOUT AND MORE THAN ANYTHING ELSE, WE, WE SPONSORED A, A VERY VALUABLE AND, UH, VALUABLE, UM, UH, CHARITY.
I, HAVING BEEN ON THE, ON THIS BOARD FOR QUITE SOME TIME, UM, PICKLEBALL HAS BEEN A MAJOR ISSUE.
AND, UM, UH, SOME FOLKS THAT I HAD MET WITH PRIOR, UH, WHEN WE DECIDED TO DO THE, UM, UH, WHAT IS IT, SOUTH SIDE, WE DID THE PICKLEBALL COURTS THERE.
AND, UH, WHAT SHELL POINT, UH, THEY SAID THAT AT, AT, UM, AT, UH, BURTON WELLS, NO ONE WOULD GO THERE.
SO, UH, IT'S NICE TO HEAR THAT, UH, IT'S VERY WELL LOCATED AND, UH, I THINK YOU'RE GONNA SEE SOME PLAY SOME ACTION FROM THAT AS WELL.
WE HAD, WE HAD ONE GENTLEMAN WHO WANTED TO FORM A TEAM FOR THE FALL SEASON, THE WINTER SEASON.
UNFORTUNATELY YOU COULDN'T PUT A TEAM TOGETHER, BUT THERE ARE PEOPLE WITHIN THIS AREA THAT LOVE TO PLAY AND WISH TO PLAY THROUGH BURTON WELLS.
SO THERE, THERE WAS AN ASSISTANCE WITH THAT AS WELL AS KIND OF OPENING PEOPLE'S EYES TO WHAT A BEAUTIFUL COMPLEX IT IS AND HOW CLOSE IT REALLY IS.
AND, AND IT'S GOOD TO BUILD AWARENESS AND GROUPS SUCH AS YOURSELF ARE USING THOSE FACILITIES TO RAISE MONEY FOR THE COMMUNITY.
I MEAN, THAT'S A, THAT'S A WIN-WIN THING AS FAR AS I'M CONCERNED.
[00:10:01]
QUESTIONS HERE FOR BRIAN? NO, JUST A COMMENT.I, I JUST LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU LOOK FORWARD TO WORKING WITH YOU NEXT FOR THE SPRING.
NOW, DO YOU HAVE A SPECIFIC REQUEST NOW OR DO YOU WANT TO BRING THAT TO OUR NEXT MEETING OR, I MEAN, WELL, IF I COULD, I, I, MY GUESS IS THE MAIN ISSUE THAT WE HAVE WITH SITUATIONS LIKE THIS IS COORDINATION WITH OUR NORMAL PROGRAMS. MM-HMM
AND SO, UM, THAT APPEARS LIKE THAT PROBABLY WON'T BE AN ISSUE, BUT I MEAN, DO YOU NEED SOMETHING FROM US TODAY TO WHAT WE, WHAT WE'RE REQUESTING IS A SECOND OR THIRD WEEKEND IN MARCH AND IT WOULD BE A FRIDAY, SATURDAY AND SUNDAY.
WE RAN INTO A LITTLE BIT OF A TRAFFIC JAM ON SATURDAY WITH RESPECT TO RUNNING MEN'S AND WOMEN'S DOUBLES ON THE SAME DAY.
AND WE HAD TO LIMIT OUR REGISTRATION IF WE GO FRIDAY AND DO THE WOMEN ON FRIDAY, WOMEN'S DOUBLES ON FRIDAY, SATURDAY WITH THE MEN'S DOUBLES AND SUNDAY WITH THE MIXED DOUBLES.
A, WE SPREAD IT OUT OVER THE THREE DAYS.
AND B, WE HAVE, WE STAND A CHANCE OF RAISING MORE FUNDS FOR, FOR, UH, SECOND HELPINGS.
IS THERE ANY ISSUE WITH THAT? AS FAR AS WE'RE CONCERNED, BRUCE? I, I WOULD SAY WE PROBABLY NEED TO DISCUSS IT 'CAUSE WE HAVE GOTTEN LOTS OF REQUESTS FOR OKAY.
SO WE PROBABLY, UH, OVERALL POLICY ON HOW TO KIND OF WASTE THOSE AND COORDINATE THOSE.
BUT WE PROBABLY NEED HAVE A BIGGER, IT'S UNDERSTANDABLE.
BUT YOU'RE, YOU'RE LOOKING TO DO THAT THE SECOND WEEK IN MARCH 2ND OR THIRD WEEK IN MARCH.
AND I THINK OUR, OUR NEXT MEETING IS MARCH 6TH.
UM, IT'S A LITTLE SHORT NOTICE.
SO, UM, I MEAN, I I I'M WILLING TO HEAR SOME RECOMMENDATIONS.
UH, I, I DON'T, I DON'T HAVE A, I DON'T HAVE AN ISSUE.
I'D LIKE TO FOR YOU TO KEEP YOUR, UH, GIVE US YOUR COST THING.
APPROVE IT BASED ON OUR AVAILABILITY RIGHT.
AND THE REASON WE'RE ASKING IS THIS, WE KIND OF WENT REALLY QUICK LAST TIME.
WE KIND OF RUSHED IT THROUGH MM-HMM
THIS GIVES US AT LEAST A MONTH OR TWO TO COORDINATE AND, AND DO A LITTLE BETTER ORGANIZATION.
NOT THAT WE WEREN'T ORGANIZED, UM, AGAIN, JUST BREAKING IT DOWN TO THREE DAYS WOULD HELP NOT ONLY OUR MEMBERS, BUT WILL ALSO HELP US RAISE SOME MORE FUNDS FOR SECOND HELPINGS.
THEN I WOULD SAY I'M GONNA MAKE A MOTION THAT WE APPROVE THE MARCH THE SECOND AND THIRD WEEKEND BASED UPON THE, UH, AVAILABILITY.
UM, RIGHT NOW GIVING HIM, FIRST, GIVING HIM THE FIRST OP GIVEN THEIR PROGRAM, THE FIRST OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE THAT WEEKEND FOR THAT TOURNAMENT.
UM, AND IF I MAY, NOBODY, NOBODY RECEIVED A FEE OR FUNDS FOR THIS AT ALL.
THERE, THERE WAS NOBODY PAID FOR THIS.
IT WAS JUST MINIMAL EXPENSE THAT WE ENDURED AND, UM, CERTAIN THINGS WE PURCHASE WE WON'T HAVE TO PURCHASE AGAIN.
SO THERE'D BE LESS COST FROM THE LEAGUE STANDPOINT IN TERMS OF THE AMOUNT OF PROCEEDS THAT WENT TO THE CHARITIES THEMSELVES? CORRECT.
DOES ANYONE WANT TO, UM, I'M, I'M GOOD WITH IT A SECOND.
UM, ALL I WOULD SAY IS THAT LET'S HAVE THAT AS LONG AS THAT'S COORDINATED WITH, UM, THE PROPER RIGHT PERSON AND IT DOESN'T IMPACT ANY OF OUR, UM, OTHER PROGRAMS, UH, AND WOULD ASK THAT YOU WOULD COME BACK AGAIN AND LET US KNOW HOW GREAT THAT ONE TURNS OUT.
AND IF WE MAY, I WANT COMMENT, JUST APPRECIATE YOU COMING BACK AND TELLING US, I MADE A COMMITMENT.
PEOPLE DON'T REALLY COME BACK AND I MADE A COMMITMENT MADE AND WE WERE VERY PRIVILEGED AND HONORED THAT YOU ASSISTED US IN, IN THE WAY YOU DID AND ALLOW US TO USE YOUR COURTS.
AND IT, UH, OBVIOUSLY IT WENT TO A GOOD CAUSE AND WE, WE TRY TO RUN TWO A YEAR AND WE DON'T WANT TO TAX YOU BY RUNNING, ASKING, REQUESTING TWO A YEAR.
WE'RE LOOKING FOR OTHER FACILITIES OUT ON HILLHEAD ISLAND AS WELL, OR OFF OF THE 2 78 CORRIDOR OR, BUT, UM, IT WAS, IT WAS A VERY GOOD TURNOUT AND I THINK WE CAN DO BETTER WITH A THREE DAY EVENT AS OPPOSED TO A TWO, TWO DAY EVENT.
WELL, AND I THINK, UH, YOU KNOW, IN ADD, LIKE I SAID EARLIER, UM, NOT TO BE TOO REPETITIVE, BUT UM, WE'VE GOT SOME GREAT RESOURCES AND SOME GREAT FACILITIES NORTH OF THE BROAD.
AND, UH, ANYTIME THAT WE CAN, UM, UH, EXPOSE MORE PEOPLE IN THE COUNTY TO THAT AND UNDERSTAND WHAT WE'RE DOING WITH OUR TAX DOLLARS.
AND THEN PEOPLE SUCH AS YOURSELVES COMING AND RAISING MONEY FOR WORTHY CHARITABLE CAUSES IN THE COMMUNITY.
I MEAN, THAT'S, THAT'S A WIN-WIN THING.
[00:15:01]
SO.AND LASTLY WE DID, WE DID GET SOME PRESS THE SUN, UH, TIMES OF BLUFFTON PUT A LITTLE, UH, ARTICLE IN THEIR PAPER AND MY WIFE AND I ATTENDED THE GALA, THE CHARITY GALA THE WEEK BEFORE.
AND I SPOKE TO THE NEWSCASTERS FROM SAVANNAH PRESS, THE SAVANNAH SAVANNAH NEWS STATION, EXCUSE ME.
AND THEY ALSO SPOKE ABOUT IT ON THE NEWS.
SO WE DID GET A LITTLE BIT OF, UH, A PRESS THERE.
UM, ANY OTHER DISCUSSION? ALL IN FAVOR? AYE.
WE HAVE SOMEBODY ELSE HERE FOR PUBLIC COMMENT.
[7. Fee Waiver/Reduction Requests]
BECKER.I'M A TENNIS PLAYER, UM, CAPTAIN OF THE NORTH OF THE BROAD TENNIS, UH, GIRLS HERE.
AND, UM, WE LIKE TO USE THE TENNIS CENTER ON BOUNDARY.
I AM A, I WOULD LIKE TO, I PUT IN A REQUEST FOR A WAIVER ON THE FEES MM-HMM
UM, WE CURRENTLY HAVE FIVE TEAMS THAT WILL BE IN THE SPRING SEASON.
UM, MOST OF THEM ARE OVER IN BLUFFTON.
WE ARE THE ONLY TEAM, UM, IN BEAUFORT BUFORT FOR THE SPRING TEAM.
AND WE WILL HAVE TO PLAY TWO MATCHES WITH EACH TEAM.
SO THAT MEANS WE'LL HAVE EIGHT MATCHES TOTAL.
BUT WE, WE WILL ONLY PLAY FOUR IN THE BUFORT COUNTY AREA AND THEN WE'LL PLAY THE OTHER FOUR WITH EACH OF THE OTHER TEAMS ON THE OTHER SIDE ON THE SOUTH OF THE BROAD.
WE'VE BEEN TO, UH, STATES FIVE YEARS.
SO, UM, SAYS A LOT FOR OUR TEAM.
AND WE HAVE PLAYED AT THE BEAUFORT, UH, BEAUFORT CENTER ON BOUNDARY, UM, WHEN TRYING TO, I, I DID SOME RESEARCH ON RESERVING THE COURTS MM-HMM
AND, UM, IT WAS A LITTLE PRICEY FOR OUR, FOR OUR GIRLS.
SO THAT'S WHY I WANTED TO SEE IF THERE MIGHT BE ABLE TO WAIVE THOSE.
IT'LL BE FOUR SUNDAYS, THAT'S WHEN WE, WHEN WE'LL BE PLAYING.
UM, I DON'T HAVE THE SCHEDULE YET.
SEASON DOESN'T START UNTIL THE 27TH, BUT IT RUNS ALL THE WAY THROUGH TO MAY.
SO I'D LIKE TO SEE IF WE MIGHT BE ABLE TO CUT SOME OF THE COSTS FOR US RESERVING THOSE FOUR COURTS.
'CAUSE WE HAVE TO HAVE FOUR COURTS IN ORDER FOR US TO, FOR OUR TEAM TO PLAY.
SO YOU WERE PART OF THE GROUP.
WE'RE TALKING THE SAME GROUP WHO, WHO? MIBS GOGGINS AND UM RIGHT.
AND THAT WE APPROVED A WAIVER IN THE FALL.
SO THIS WAS A MEETING IN JULY AND UH, AND AT THAT POINT IN TIME, IN THE MEETING MINUTES, I SAID I BRUCE JAGER STATED THAT WE DO NOT WAIVE FEES FOR A SITUATION SUCH AS THIS.
WE HAVE REASONABLE FEES, WE NEED TO HAVE USER FEES AS A COUNTY AND APPROVING THIS WOULD SET A PRECEDENCE FOR OTHERS TO COME IN AND JUST HAVE THEIR FEES WAIVED.
SO I'M NOT ASKING FOR ALL THE FEES TO BE WAIVED.
JUST, YOU KNOW, SO MY, MY READ ON WHAT WE SAID LAST TIME MM-HMM
WAS THAT, UM, AND, AND I HAPPEN TO PERSONALLY KNOW A LOT OF PEOPLE WHO PLAYED USTA TENNIS MM-HMM
AND THEY PLAY IN BLUFFTON AND HILTON HEAD AND WHATEVER.
AND I, YOU KNOW, I DID A RANDOM SAMPLING OF THEM.
AND, UH, ALL THOSE TEAMS, IT APPEARS THEY PAY FEES WHEN THEY GO TO OTHER PEOPLE.
THEY PAY GUEST FEES, UM, THEY PAY FEES TO PLAY AT THEIR HOME.
UM, SO, UM, I THINK WE MADE AN EXCEPTION LAST TIME FOR THAT AND CUT THOSE FEES.
BUT IN, IN MY MIND, THAT WAS SENDING A SIGNAL THAT THAT WAS A ONE TIME DEAL.
UM, BUT I'LL OPEN IT UP FOR DISCUSSION HERE FROM THE BOARD.
DO YOU HAVE ANY THOUGHTS ON THAT? ANYBODY? I HAVE SOME QUESTIONS.
HUH? I HAVE A FEW QUESTIONS FOR HER.
WILL YOU BE PA WILL YOU BE CHARGING ADMITTANCE FEES? OH NO, NO.
THESE ARE, NO, THAT'S JUST, WE NEED FOUR COURTS SO WE CAN PLAY OUR MATCH AT ONE TIME.
IT'S HARD IN BUFORT TO FIND ANYTHING AVAILABLE.
I'VE ALREADY CONTACTED THE HIGH SCHOOLS AND SOME OF
[00:20:01]
THE PRIVATE SCHOOLS WHO HAVE THOSE MANY TENNIS COURTS AND, UM, CURRENTLY THEY'RE NOT ALLOWING PUBLIC TO, UH, PLAY ON THEIR COURTS.AND THERE IS A FEE TO JOIN THESE, THIS TEAM RIGHT.
TO JOIN THE U TO JOIN THE TRAVEL TEAM.
UM, WELL THERE'S A $18 FEE THAT WE PAY TO ALLOW FOR US TO GET A SHIRT.
AND YOU PAY U-U-S-T-A FEES? YES.
SO, SO JUST FOR AN EXAMPLE, MY SAID IF MY SON WERE TO PLAY TRAVEL BASEBALL, HE WOULD HAVE TO PAY A FEE TO PLAY ON THAT TEAM, PAY FOR THE PAY TO PLAY ON THAT TEAM, PAY THE TRAVEL.
SO THERE ARE FEES THAT GO WITH THAT GOES INTO RIGHT.
THAT AND THEN OF COURSE TOTALLY UNDERSTAND THAT.
SO THAT'S ALL CALCULATED INTO THAT WHEN HE GOES TO TRAVEL.
SO THAT'S, SO ALL OF HIS FEES FOR THAT YEAR IS CALCULATED INTO THAT FEE.
AM I CORRECT? I DON'T, YEAH, I DON'T, I DON'T THINK SHE'S SAYING I DON'T, THAT'S NOT WHAT SHE'S SAYING.
BASICALLY, BASICALLY SHE'S GOT A TENNIS TEAM AND THEY, THEY'RE SANCTIONED BY USTA AND THEY JOIN THEM AND THEY JUST NEED A FACILITY TO BE ABLE TO PLAY AT.
AND YOU KNOW, THE QUESTION IS, IN, IN OUR ROLE, WE SET FEES AND WE SET WAIVERS OF FEES.
UM, AND IN MY MIND, I VIEW THIS VERY SIMILARLY TO A TRAVEL BASEBALL TEAM.
AND, UM, IF A TRAVEL BASEBALL TEAM COMES TO US AND WANTS TO RENT A FIELD, THEY, THEY DON'T GET ANY WAIVERS OF FEES.
SO IS IT USUALLY A ONE TIME DEAL THOUGH OR IS IT MULTIPLE? 'CAUSE RIGHT NOW IT'S $50 A COURT, IT'S $50 A COURT FOR UP TO THREE HOURS OF TIME.
AND THAT'S WHAT WE USUALLY RESERVE.
SO IT'LL BE $200 FOR EACH TIME.
THAT WE GO TO PLAY AND WE NEED IT FOUR TIMES.
SO THAT'S $800 FOR OUR SEASON.
THAT'S A LITTLE STEEP FOR SOME OF THE GIRLS THAT ARE ON MY TEAM.
SO THAT'S WHY I WAS JUST COMING AT THIS TIME TO SEE, I'M HOPING WE GET MORE PLAYERS, BUT CUTOFF WAS, CUTOFF IS THE 12TH, WHICH IS SUNDAY.
SO I'M HOPING WE MIGHT GET A COUPLE MORE PLAYERS TO REDUCE THE COSTS FOR THEM.
BUT I WAS JUST ASKING FOR SOME KIND OF MAYBE FLAT FEE UP FRONT SO THAT I CAN TELL THE GIRLS, HEY, THIS IS WHAT WE'RE GONNA HAVE TO PAY.
UM, SO TO PLAY HERE LAST YEAR WE DIDN'T AND I REALLY FELT IT HURT OUR CHANCES 'CAUSE LAST YEAR WAS THE ONLY YEAR THAT WE DIDN'T MAKE STATES.
BECAUSE WE HAVE AN ADVANTAGE TO BRING THEM TO THE HOME COURT, WHICH IS HERE.
BUT, BUT YOU'VE GOTTA UNDERSTAND AS WELL THAT WE AS A COUNTY, I MEAN THE COUNTY TAXPAYERS PAY FOR ALL THESE RESOURCES.
WE'VE GOT A SITUATION FOR THE PERSON WHO JUST CAME UP HERE BEFORE YOU, WE DID WAIVE THE FEES IN THAT INSTANCES, BUT THEY WERE RAISING MONEY FOR CHARITIES MM-HMM
TO ME IT'S A TOTALLY, TO ME PERSONALLY, IT'S TOTALLY DIFFERENT SITUATION.
AND UNFORTUNATELY I THINK OUR, FROM EVERYBODY THAT I'VE SPOKEN TO, OUR RENTAL FEES ARE, ARE VERY REASONABLE.
WE HAVEN'T RAISED THEM IN A NUMBER OF YEARS.
YOU'VE GOT A BRAND NEW FACILITY IN BEAUFORT.
SO, UM, UNLESS SOMEONE WANTS TO MAKE A MOTION TO THE CONTRARY, UM, I I I'M NOT IN FAVOR OF WA WAIVING ANY FEES IN THIS SITUATION.
THAT WE APPROVED A ONE TIME, I THINK WHEN WE WERE DOING IT LAST TIME.
IT WAS ONLY THREE COURTS AT THAT TIME.
SO WE, WE HAD GIVEN THE ONE TIME WAIVER, I, I REMEMBER TALKING ABOUT THIS AND WE SAID THAT TO HELP GET AWARENESS IN THE COMMUNITY AND STUFF, WE WOULD DO THE ONE TIME.
I THINK THE PROBLEM IS THIS IS VERY SIMILAR TO LIKE ALL TRAVEL ORGANIZATIONS.
AND SO IF WE GRANT ANOTHER WAIVER, WE'RE GONNA HAVE EVERYBODY, LIKE ALL THE TRAVEL BASEBALL TEAMS AND ALL THE TRAVEL SPORTS COMING AND ASKING FOR THE SAME THING.
'CAUSE THEY WANT TO USE THE FACILITIES TOO.
'CAUSE THEY DON'T HAVE FACILITIES.
AND SO I, I THINK IT'D BE TOUGH FOR US TO DO AGAIN.
SO I'M SORRY, BUT I'D HAVE TO SAY WE'VE DECLINED YOUR REQUEST.
HELLO, HOW ARE YOU? GOOD CHAIRMAN BOARD, THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR, UH, SEEING ME.
I'M THE COACH FOR HOLY TRINITY CLASSICAL CHRISTIAN SCHOOL.
LAST YEAR YOU WERE VERY GENEROUS AND EXTENDED US A DISCOUNT OF 25% OFF OF FEES SO THAT WE COULD RUN, UH, APPROXIMATELY, UM, SIX DAYS OF PLAYING OUT OF THE COURTS FOR THE CHILDREN.
THEY HAD A BALL, PARENTS AND FAMILIES CAME OUT NOT ONLY FROM, UH,
[00:25:01]
BEAUFORT, BUT ALSO ALL THE WAY OVER FROM CHARLESTON AND HILTON HEAD IN THE AREA.SO IT WAS GREAT TO SEE THE COURTS OUT THERE.
UM, SPECIAL THANKS TO HEATHER, WHO WAS A GREAT MENTOR IN HOW TO PROPERLY MAKE RESERVATIONS AND READ THE BYLAWS AND EVERYTHING AND TO UNDERSTAND HOW TO PROPERLY GO AHEAD AND, AND WORK WITH THE COMMUNITY ON THIS.
THE REQUEST IS TO CONTINUE WHAT WE DID LAST YEAR AND TO GO AHEAD AND, UM, AND HAVE THE SAME, UH, SAME SETUP AS LAST YEAR.
HOW DID THAT GO LAST YEAR? GOOD.
YOU DON'T HAVE ANY ISSUES AT ALL.
SO YOU'RE LOOKING OFFICIALLY FOR, UH, A 25% WAIVER, MEANING THAT YOU'RE GONNA PAY 75% OF, OF OUR OF OUR FEES.
THAT MEANS WE'D BRING APPROXIMATELY, IF OUR SCHEDULE FILLS OUT THE WAY, I'M HOPING, UH, $1,350, UH, TO THE COUNTY THROUGH FEES.
I, I HAD A LITTLE DIFFERENT CALCULATION MYSELF, BUT I CAME UP WITH, I'M A WINEMAKER, SO MY MOUTH ISN'T AS GOOD AS IT SHOULD BE.
I WANT, I WANT TO, UM, UH, I'M NOT GONNA HAVE TO KICK OFF MY SHOES HOPEFULLY TO TALK ABOUT THIS, BUT, UH, UM, I THINK I WANT FOR THE RECORD THERE TO BE KNOWN THAT WE DO HAVE A PROVISION IN OUR, IN OUR FEE STRUCTURE TO PROVIDE SCHOOLS PRIVATE AND CHARTER SCHOOLS WITH ACCESS TO FIELDS SUBJECT TO, UM, AVAILABILITY.
UM, SO, UH, THE WAY THAT I LOOKED AT IT, UM, THE BASEBALL FIELD IS, UH, VERSUS THE BASEBALL FIELD FEES FOR A TRAVEL TEAM VERSUS A SCHOOL, WERE ROUGHLY 50% OF WHAT THE NORMAL FEES WERE.
SO, SO YOU'RE SAYING THERE'S A BIGGER DISCOUNT AVAILABLE.
WELL, WHAT, WHAT I WOULD SAY TO YOU BASED ON, BASED ON WHAT YOU CAME UP WITH, I CAME UP THAT OUR FEES WOULD BE, AND, AND I'M USING A THREE HOUR, UM, YES SIR, THREE HOURS THAT OUR FEES WOULD BE $2,750 AND THAT A 50% REDUCTION WOULD GET YOU TO 1003 25.
SO I BELIEVE WE ENDED UP AT THE SAME PLACE.
IS THAT CORRECT? I I BELIEVE THAT IS, THAT IS WITHIN THE STRIKING DISTANCE.
BECAUSE I, SO, UH, I MAY, I MAY HAVE DONE THE MATH A LITTLE DIFFERENTLY, SIR.
IF I LOOK AT SIX DIFFERENT TIMES OF, OF PLAY, SO SIX DIFFERENT DAYS, UH, UTILIZING SIX COURTS, THAT WOULD BE 36 COURTS FOR THE YEAR TIMES $50 PER RENTAL SESSION, WHICH SHOULD BRING US TO $1,800, UM, WITH A DISCOUNT OF 25% THAT SHOULD KNOCK THAT DOWN APPROXIMATELY $450 TO, UM, UM, UH, GOSH, I HAVE TO DO THE CALCULATOR HERE, UH, TO 1350 IS WHERE, UH, WHERE I CAME OUT TO.
I HAD, I HAD, UM,
DO YOU HAVE FIVE QUARTS OR SIX QUARTS? UM, WE, I HAD TYPO IN THERE.
IT, IT SHOULD BE SIX COURTS IS THE IDEAL.
SO IF YOU LOOK AT 36 COURTS TIMES 50, UM, THAT, THAT SHOULD BE 1800.
AND YOU'RE USING 'EM FOR THREE, THREE HOURS, IS THAT CORRECT? TYP TYPICALLY LESS THAN THREE HOURS.
SO, SO HOW IT WORKS IS THERE SIX SINGLE GAMES THAT START, AND THOSE USUALLY FINISH WITHIN ABOUT AN HOUR AND A HALF.
AND THEN WE'RE DOWN TO THREE COURTS, UH, PRETTY QUICKLY AFTER THAT FOR DOUBLES.
AND THEN WE HAD ONE CASE, UH, LAST YEAR WHERE WE HAD SOME FOLKS THAT SHOWED UP WHO WANTED TO USE COURTS.
AND IT TOOK ABOUT 15 MINUTES FOR US TO HAVE ONE OF OUR SINGLES GAMES TAP OUT.
AND EVEN THOUGH WE HAD 'EM RESERVED, WE ASKED THE, UH, THE PEOPLE WHO WERE WAITING TO TAKE THE COURTS, UH, BECAUSE WE WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT WE WERE GOOD STEWARDS.
I THINK YOU AND I SHARED AND TALKED ABOUT THAT.
YEAH, I, YOU KNOW, I'M, I'M APT TO, UH, I'M APT TO ALONG THE BASIS OF, UM, OF WHAT WE DO WITH BASEBALL FIELDS.
MY, MY, UM, SUGGESTION IS WE DO 50% LIKE WE DO ON THE OTHER AND COME UP WITH THAT NUMBER, UM, WOULD BE 900.
WHATEVER HIS NUMBER COMES UP TO DIVIDE IT BY, IT'D BE $900.
YEAH, BETWEEN THE TWO OF US, I'M HUNDRED DOLLARS.
AND IF WE'RE DOING 50% RIGHT, BUT HE'S GOT TWO, YOU'VE GOT A COUPLE DIFFERENT DATES THAT YOU, YOU MIGHT WANT TO ADD ON TO IT, BASICALLY.
AND SO IF IT WOULD BE, UH, ACCEPTABLE IF THERE WERE ADDITIONAL DATES, I COULD, UH, WORK THAT OUT AND, AND DISCUSS THAT WITH HEATHER.
UM, AND THEN I TRUST HER MATH OVER BOTH OF OURS RIGHT NOW.
BUT YOU DO REALIZE I WAS DOING MY MATH OFF THE, UH, OFF THE FORM THAT YOU FILLED OUT.
[00:30:01]
SOTHAT PAPERWORK GETS ME EVERY TIME.
I GOT MY MATH IN MICHIGAN, SO, YOU KNOW, IT'S GOOD.
UH, IN ANY EVENT, I THINK WE'RE, UH, YOU KNOW, BASED ON LAST YEAR'S, UH, YES SIR.
PERFORMANCE AND, UH, BASED ON, UM, UM, AVAILABILITY, WHICH I THINK YOU PRETTY MUCH PUT OUT HERE FOR THOSE PARTICULAR TIMES.
AS LONG AS THOSE ARE GOOD, WE'RE GOOD WITH EVERYTHING ELSE THAT THE COUNTY WANTS.
I THINK 50% BASED ON OUR CALCULATION, I THINK WE'RE GONNA END UP AT THE, PRETTY MUCH THE SAME PLACE.
DO WE WANNA MAKE A MOTION? WELL, ONE QUESTION.
ANY PROBLEM FROM THE STAFF ON THEIRS PERFORMANCE LAST YEAR? NO, WE, WE, UM, THE ONLY, WE HAD AN ODDITY WITH THE PERSON WHO CAME ON THE COURTS TRYING TO TALK TO SOME OF THE GIRLS.
BUT, UM, WE WERE ABLE TO ADDRESS THAT PRETTY QUICKLY.
UM, YOU KNOW, LARRY AND, AND HIS TENNIS PROGRAM, HE'S ACTUALLY NOT THERE AT THAT PARTICULAR TIME.
'CAUSE HE'S GOT SOMETHING ELSE HE THINK HE DOES DURING THOSE TIMES.
SO WE DON'T CONFLICT WITH LARRY.
DONNA HAS BEEN HELPFUL AND SHE'S, UM, BLOWN DOWN THE COURTS A COUPLE TIMES.
UH, THE ONLY TIME WE HAD, UH, A DIALOGUE THAT WAS, THAT WAS CHALLENGING IS WHEN, UM, WE HAD A MISSED EMAIL ON DATES AND, UH, THEN FORTUNATELY WE WERE ABLE TO DEMONSTRATE THE PAPER TRAIL AND THE APPROVALS AND WE GOT THAT SORTED OUT.
SO I I THOUGHT IT WENT SWIMMINGLY.
WELL, MY QUESTION WAS, WAS TO THE STAFF, WAS THERE ANY PROBLEMS? WE'RE GOOD.
I PROPOSE WE, UH, CONTINUE THE RELATIONSHIP AS WE DID LAST YEAR, BUT DO IT UNDER THE GUIDELINES OF THE 50% DISCOUNT 'CAUSE OF THE CHARTER SCHOOL.
OH, WE DID NOT, HANUKKAH CAME WITH HIM.
[6. Review and Approval of November Minutes – November 7, 2024 (backup)]
SIX, DIDN'T I?I WENT STRAIGHT TO PUBLIC COMMENT.
HAS EVERYONE HAD HAD A MOMENT TO, UH, REVIEW THE MINUTES AND DO WE HAVE ANY CHANGES TO THOSE OTHER THAN THE CHANGES FOR THE QUALIFICATIONS? FOR BUFFY? FOR BUFFY? YEAH.
YOU GOOD WITH THAT? BUFFY? IS SHE THERE? I'M GOOD.
ANY, ANYBODY HAVE ANY OTHER COMMENTS? OKAY.
DO I GOT A MO DO I HAVE A MOTION TO APPROVE THE MINUTES? MOTION TO APPROVE.
ALRIGHT, NOW WE CAN GET BACK ON THE, UH, PROPERLY ON THE AGENDA.
[8. Department Report]
GOOD AFTERNOON.I'M GONNA KICK OFF A FEW, UM, SECTIONS THIS TIME.
UM, SO FOR, WE'VE, WE'RE KIND OF INTO THE NEW YEAR, UM, SO A LOT OF THE SECTIONS THIS TIME ARE GONNA START WITH A RECAP OF THE LAST SEVERAL.
UM, SO THIS FIRST SLIDE, WHICH WILL COME UP HERE.
UM, SO WE'RE HERE SHOWING JUST THE YEAR OVER YEAR REVIEW OF, UM, ALL OF OUR, OF OUR MAIN REC CENTER.
SO THE LYNN BROWN, THE BURTON WELLS, AND THE BUCK WALTER RECREATION CENTER.
AND YOU'LL SEE A LOT OF SLIDES THAT ARE SIMILAR TO THIS SHOWING THE PROGRESSION OF CHECK-INS THROUGHOUT THE YEARS.
SO NOT A LOT OF DISCUSSION NEEDED NECESSARILY ON THEM, BUT KIND OF GIVE YOU A REP, A VISUAL REPRESENTATION OF WHERE WE'VE BEEN AND WHERE WE'RE HEADED.
WHAT'S THE REASON FOR THE DECREASE IN LYNN BROWN SO MUCH? WAS THAT BECAUSE WE WERE CLOSED OR? NO? SO, UM, IN 2023, WE ACTUALLY, UM, CALCULATED ENTRY.
ALL OF THE ALVIN SETTLES CHECK-INS ACTUALLY HAPPENED THROUGH LYNN BROWN.
SO IT'S ARTIFICIALLY INFLATED, UM, FOR 2023.
SO THIS IS A, A, A GOOD, A GOOD METRIC OF KIND OF ALL OF OUR, WE'LL CALL THEM NORMAL CHECK-INS.
UM, IF YOU ACTUALLY CALCULATE THINGS LIKE BASKETBALL LEAGUE USE WHERE THEY'RE NOT CHECKING IN, UM, THIS IS TENS IF NOT FIFTIES, IF THOUSANDS HIGHER.
UM, BECAUSE OUR, WE'VE GOT A THOUSAND PEOPLE EVERY NIGHT AT BUCK WALTER, AND, YOU KNOW, ROUGHLY.
SO, BUT THESE ARE INDIVIDUAL CHECK-INS WITH CHECK CORRECT.
WITH NO PARTICULAR ALLOCATION TO A PROGRAM OR ANYTHING, CORRECT? YEP.
SO THE FIRST SEVERAL IN ATHLETICS ARE ALSO METRICS.
UM, KIND OF JUST FUN TO SEE TYPE THINGS.
UM, THIS FIRST ONE THOUGH SHOWS OUR PROGRESSION THROUGH THE YEARS.
UM, WE DID SWITCH, UM, CAL OR METRIC SYSTEMS IN 2021 FROM MAX
[00:35:01]
GALAXY TO REC DESK.SO IN SOME OF OUR METRICS WE DO GO BACK TO 2021, BUT PROBABLY MOST RELIABLY TO START LOOKING AT 2022 AND FORWARD.
UM, BUT YOU SEE A, A, A FAIRLY LOGICAL INCREASE OR CONSISTENT INCREASE IN PROGRAMS, UM, FROM LEFT TO RIGHT OF UM, ALL AND REALLY IN ALL OF OUR SYSTEMS. UM, IF I'M LOOKING AT THIS, THE ONLY ONE THAT JUMPS OUT TO ME IS THE, THE DECREASE IN CAMPS, UM, IN 2023 OR FROM 2022.
HOWEVER, IN 2022 WE DID CAMPS ON A WEEKLY BASIS.
SO YOU ACTUALLY HAD TO REGISTER EIGHT TIMES TO GO THROUGH THE ENTIRE SUMMER.
UM, IN SUBSEQUENT YEARS WE DID EITHER BY THE WHOLE SUMMER OR BY TWO WEEK SESSIONS.
SO WE ACTUALLY DID INCREASE IN 2024 BASED ON, UM, TOTAL REGISTRANTS, JUST FEWER REGISTRATIONS.
SO YOU'RE SAYING, UM, IN 2022 YOU DIVIDE THAT NUMBER BY FOUR BECAUSE THEY HAD TO REGISTER FOUR TIMES ACTUALLY EIGHT TIMES.
AND THIS IS NORTH AND SOUTH COMBINED? THAT'S CORRECT.
UM, AND THEN THAT'S A GREAT QUESTION.
WE'LL MOVE TO THE NEXT SLIDE PLEASE.
SO THIS IS, UM, A SEPARATION BY NORTH AND SOUTH, UM, PER YOUR, PER YOUR QUESTION THERE, UM, SIMILAR NUMBERS.
YOU SEE KIND OF MORE CONSISTENT GROWTH ACROSS THE BOARD ON THE, ON THE NORTH SIDE.
UM, BUT STILL POSITIVE PROGRESSION PRETTY MUCH ALL OVER THE PLACE.
UM, ON THE NORTH SIDE WITH SMALL DECREASE IN, IN THE BASEBALL IN 2024.
BUT OVERALL POSITIVE TRENDS AND THEN AGAIN, MORE, MORE DATA.
YOU KNOW, I WORKED FOR GENERAL DYNAMICS FOR 10 YEARS, SO WE DID A LOT OF DATA STUFF.
UM, SO THIS SLIDE THAT YOU'RE LOOKING AT NOW IS A COMPARISON BY SEASON.
SO THERE'S SOME PREVIOUS DISCUSSIONS ABOUT HOW FALL LOOKS RELATIVE TO FALL AND HOW SPRING LOOKS RELATIVE TO SPRING.
UM, SO EACH OF THESE KIND OF SHOWS THE DIFFERENT SEASONS AS THEY PROGRESS THROUGH THE YEARS, UM, ACROSS THE DIFFERENT SPORTS.
AND THEN THIS LAST SLIDE, I THINK IN THE METRICS PIECE, UM, IS THE ADULT PIECE.
UM, SO A LITTLE, THE, THE, ON THE NORTH SIDE, WE, WE HAVE MORE OF A BASEBALL PROGRAM THAT'S GROWN, KIND OF GROWN THROUGH THE YEARS.
WE DON'T HAVE THAT ON THE, UM, ON THE SOUTH SIDE.
UM, BUT FAIRLY SIMILAR METRICS.
SOME, WE HAD SOME NEWER VOLLEYBALL PROGRAMS ON THE NORTH SIDE AND THEN KIND OF A, A NEWER SPRING SOCCER WE'RE OFFERING ON THE NORTH SIDE.
UM, SO GREAT JOB TO BROCK ON THAT.
AND ALSO A NEW WINTER BASKETBALL LEAGUE.
SO ONLY ONE, ONE SEASON OF METRICS ON THAT.
AND THEN THE DECREASE IN ADULT SOFTBALL ON THE SOUTH SIDE.
UM, WE DID HAVE, UM, SOME CHALLENGES WITH OUR SENIOR LEAGUES, UM, DECIDING TO MIGRATE TO HILTON HEAD.
SO, UM, IT KIND OF SPEAKS TO THAT METRICS OF THE, OF THE DROP.
SO THEY ACTUALLY, THEY ACTUALLY LEFT RIGHT? CORRECT.
AND THEN I THINK IT'S ONTO THE NORMAL PRESENTATION.
UM, SO I THINK THE LAST TIME WE MET, UM, WE WERE JUST GETTING READY FOR SOCCER ALL STARS.
UM, BLUFFTON HAD A GOOD SHOWING.
WE WON THE 10 U BOYS, UM, STATE CHAMPIONS, UM, EIGHT U 10 U 12 U GIRLS STATE CHAMPIONS AND WE WERE THE 15 U RUNNER UP.
UM, SO ALL OUR SOCCER TEAMS DO REALLY WELL.
UM, GOOD SHOWING FOR BLUFFTON.
UM, WE'RE RUNNING BASKETBALL RIGHT NOW.
UM, AS YOU CAN SEE, WE'RE DOWN 14, 14 KIDS.
UM, WE GOT 932 IN OUR PROGRAM RIGHT NOW.
UM, 119 TEAMS, UM, FROM FOUR YEAR OLDS UP TO SIX YEAR OLDS.
UH, WE STARTED JANUARY 4TH, SO WE'VE BEEN PLAYING JUST ABOUT A WEEK.
UM, EVERYTHING'S GOING SMOOTH.
UM, NOT REALLY ANY COMPLAINTS IN ENJOYING IT SO FAR.
UH, WE GOT OUR ADULT KICKBALL THAT STARTS ON MONDAY.
UM, AS YOU CAN SEE, WE'RE DOWN 62.
WE'VE KIND OF HAD SOME ISSUES.
WE WERE AT 10 TEAMS AT ONCE, THEN WE JUMPED DOWN TO SEVEN TEAMS. SO WE'VE HAD PEOPLE BACKING OUT, GETTING REFUNDS, UM, TEAMS HAVING A HARD TIME FINDING ENOUGH GIRLS.
UM, SO WE'VE HAD TO MAKE SOME ADJUSTMENTS THERE.
UM, BUT THAT'S KICKING OFF ON MONDAY.
IS THAT A TEAM REGISTRATION THING? NO, SIR.
UM, SO IT'S AN INDIVIDUAL FEE AND THEN THEY KIND OF JUST TELL US WHAT TEAM THEY'RE PLAYING FOR AND WE ASSIGN 'EM TO THE TEAM.
BECAUSE ONE OF THE OTHER PROGRAMS YOU HAVE, WE TALKED ABOUT I THINK AT THE LAST MEETING WAS A TEAM BASED THING THAT WE, UH, WELL OUR ADULT SOFTBALL IS.
BUT I THINK THAT WAS BUFORD THAT WAS TALKING ABOUT, WE WERE TALKING ABOUT MAYBE DOING SOME DIFFERENT THINGS, RIGHT? YEP.
UM, OUR UPCOMING LEADS, WE GOT OUR REGISTRATION OPEN, EVERYTHING OPENED JANUARY 1ST.
UM, YOU CAN SEE ALL OUR SPORTS THAT WE'RE GETTING READY FOR.
UM, OBVIOUSLY THE NUMBERS ARE DOWN, BUT WE'RE
[00:40:01]
ONLY A WEEK INTO REGISTRATION.UM, SO WE SHOULD BE, UM, EVERYTHING'S KIND OF, WE'RE A LITTLE BIT BEHIND ON A COUPLE OF THE SPORTS, UM, AS TO WHERE WE WERE AT THIS POINT LAST YEAR.
UM, BUT OBVIOUSLY THOSE NUMBERS ARE GONNA GROW A, A GREAT AMOUNT.
UM, AND THEN AGAIN, OUR ADULT VOLLEYBALL, WE'RE GETTING READY TO KICK OFF THAT REGISTRATION'S OPEN.
UM, WE ONLY HAVE ONE PERSON SIGN UP SO FAR, BUT AGAIN, WE'RE, WE'RE EIGHT DAYS INTO IT, SO NOT WORRIED ABOUT THAT.
UM, SO YOU CAN SEE WE'RE DOWN IN KICKBALL THIS YEAR AS WELL.
UM, LAST YEAR WAS OUR FIRST YEAR IN THE WINTER THAT WE OFFERED IT.
SO, UM, STILL TRYING TO I GUESS, KIND OF FIND OUR FOOTING THERE AND, AND FIGURE OUT EXACTLY, YOU KNOW, WHO, WHO IS GONNA RETAIN TEAMS, WHO'S GONNA COME BACK AND, AND THAT KIND OF STUFF.
SO, UH, IT'S PROBABLY EXPLAINS WHY THAT WENT DOWN A LITTLE BIT THERE.
UM, HOW MANY PEOPLE DO WE NEED TO HAVE VIABLE KICKBALL LEAGUE? I MEAN, HOW MANY, AT LEAST THREE TEAMS? SO I MEAN, THREE TEAMS. YEAH.
THAT'S TYPICALLY, TYPICALLY WHAT WE DO.
SO I THINK WE'LL HAVE, I THINK WE HAVE 5, 4, 4 TEAMS WITH THAT NUMBER, RIGHT? FOUR, FOUR TEAMS. UM, AGAIN, IT'S GONNA BE HIT OR MISS IN THE WINTER 'CAUSE IT'S LIKE COLD ONE WEEK AND THEN IT'S IN THE SEVENTIES THE NEXT WEEK, AND THEN IT'S IN THE THIRTIES THE NEXT WEEK.
SO, AND AS FAR AS FACILITY UTILIZATION FOR THIS, THEY PLAY ONE NIGHT A WEEK.
UH, TYPICALLY THAT'S WHAT WE DO ONE NIGHT A WEEK.
AND SO IT'S, IT'S ONE ONE NIGHT A WEEK AND IT'S, UM, IT'S ALL FOUR TEAMS ARE TYPICALLY OUT THERE EACH NIGHT.
I THINK ONLY THREE OF THE TEAMS PLAY EACH WEEK AND THERE'S NO, SORRY, ALL FOUR TEAMS WILL PLAY AND THEN THEY ROTATE.
WHOEVER'S NOT PLAYING IS GONNA END UP UMPIRING AND REF REFEREEING FOR MM-HMM
FOR THE OTHER TEAMS. BUT I GUESS WHAT I'M SAYING IS WE'VE, WE'VE, WE'RE ALLOCATING ONE FIELD FOR THIS PROGRAM ONE NIGHT A WEEK.
UM, SO THAT'LL BE STARTING SOON.
UH, WE JUST WRAPPED UP A WINTER BASKETBALL ADULT LEAGUE FOR THE FIRST TIME.
THERE WERE FOUR TEAMS IN THAT.
UH, WE RAN THAT DOWN AT LYNN BROWN, UH, CHARLES LYNN BROWN CENTER TO TRY AND UTILIZE THAT FACILITY A LITTLE BIT MORE, GET IT SOME EXPOSURE.
UM, RENOVATIONS ARE GONNA BE STARTING ON THAT I THINK IN MARCH WAS THE LAST I HEARD.
UM, OBVIOUSLY WE DON'T WANNA COMMIT TO A DATE OR ANYTHING 'CAUSE WE NEVER KNOW, BUT HOPEFULLY THAT STARTS SOON.
UM, BUT THAT WAS A, THAT WAS A REALLY BIG SUCCESS.
THAT WAS, BROCK KICKED THAT ONE OFF, SO IT WAS WELL DONE ON BROCK.
UH, AND THEN FOR YOUTH BASKETBALL, JUST A LITTLE BIT DOWN, BUT A LOT OF THAT IS BECAUSE WE HAD, I THINK A LOT OF THAT IS BECAUSE WE USUALLY HAVE A 11 TO 13-YEAR-OLD GIRLS TEAM.
THEY'RE ALL NOW GETTING TO THE AGE WHERE THEY'RE EITHER PLAYING FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL OR HIGH SCHOOL.
SO THEY ARE DOING THAT INSTEAD OF PLAYING WITH US.
SO THAT'S, YOU KNOW, YOU, WE USUALLY GOT EIGHT TO 10 GIRLS THERE AND THEN, YOU KNOW, JUST OTHER REGULAR NON ENROLLEES.
SO EVERYTHING COMING UP, THIS IS OBVIOUSLY WHAT WE CURRENTLY HAVE.
UM, SO REGISTRATION IN DATES THERE.
FLIPPING THROUGH THIS REAL QUICK.
UM, SO I DID SOME METRICS BASED OFF OF THIS POINT OF THE YEAR LAST YEAR IN REGISTRATIONS.
UM, SO THOSE, THOSE NUMBERS YOU SEE UNDER 2025 IS OUR TOTAL ENROLLEES RIGHT NOW.
AND 2024 IS TOTAL ENROLLEES THAT WE HAD LAST YEAR.
BUT, UM, AT THIS TIME LAST YEAR, UH, WE WERE, WELL, THIS WAS TWO DAYS AGO THAT I DID THESE NUMBERS.
SO, UH, SOCCER WAS DOWN AND BASEBALL WAS DOWN A LITTLE BIT, BUT SOFTBALL AND FLAG FOOTBALL WERE UP.
UM, AND THEN ADULT SOCCER AS WELL.
BUT THAT'S THE FIRST YEAR THAT WE'RE, WE'RE OFFERING THIS, THAT PROGRAM.
SO, UM, I LIKE TO KIND OF KEEP TRACK OF THAT, OF WHERE WE ARE IN RELATION TO THIS TIME OF THE YEAR LAST YEAR.
JUST FOR MY OWN KNOWLEDGE MORE THAN ANYTHING, I GUESS.
BUT IT IS INTERESTING TO SEE THAT WE WERE DOWN IN THOSE TWO AND, AND UP.
UM, I WOULDN'T BE TOO WORRIED ABOUT BASEBALL.
I WOULDN'T BE SURPRISED IF WE PASSED THREE 30 THIS YEAR.
I WOULD ACTUALLY PROBABLY EXPECT THAT BECAUSE I THINK WE'RE GETTING A LITTLE BIT MORE RETENTION FROM SOME OF THESE TRAVEL TEAMS IN THE AREA.
CARLOS, WHERE DO WE SIT ON RELATIVE SCHOOL AGE CHILDREN IN THE NORTHERN AREA OF THE COUNTY AND THE SOUTHERN AREA OF THE COUNTY? I MEAN, IS THAT, ARE THERE ANY SHIFTS THERE? IS IT, IS IT PRETTY MUCH, WELL, THE MOST GROWTH IS IN SOUTH OF THE COUNTY ON THE, UH, BLUFFTON AREA.
UM, AND THEN WE, AS FAR AS, UH, THIS AGE GROUP, THE MIDDLE SCHOOL AGE, OBVIOUSLY WE HAVE A MIDDLE SCHOOL LEAGUE AS WELL.
AND, UH, WE OFFER IN THE SPRING BASEBALL SOFTBALL, BOYS AND GIRLS SOCCER AND
[00:45:01]
TRACK AND FIELD.SO, UH, THAT USUALLY THOSE KIDS WILL LEAVE THE SCHOOL PROGRAM AND THEN IF THEY'RE ABLE TO OR THEY'RE DOING BOTH.
UM, SO YEAH, SO WE HAVE THE OLDER BOYS AGE GROUP OF, SO OF BASEBALL, THE 13 TO 15 YEAR OLDS THAT RUNS LATER INTO THE SUMMER.
UM, SO USUALLY WE DON'T START THAT SEASON UNTIL MAYBE THE LAST WEEK OF SCHOOL SEASON, SO THEY, THEY CAN DOUBLE DIP THAT WAY.
UM, SO THAT BASEBALL METRIC IS, FOR US AT LEAST, IT'S ONLY FOUR THROUGH 12 YEAR OLDS.
YEAH, I MEAN I THINK THE BIG ISSUE WITH US WITH LOOKING AT ALL THESE COUNTS IS UNDERSTANDING, YOU KNOW, WHERE WE ARE WITH THE, THE AGE GROUPS, HOW MANY PARTICIPANTS THERE ARE.
I MEAN, WHEN YOU FLY OVER AT 30,000 FEET, YOU THINK ALL THIS GROWTH, ALL WHATEVER, EVERYTHING SHOULD JUST BE GOING THROUGH THE ROOF.
IT MAY OR MAY NOT, DEPENDING WHERE IT'S LOCATED, WHAT AREA OF THE COUNTY.
AND, AND THEN THE OTHER THING IS, IS JUST UNDERSTANDING ARE WE, ARE WE REACHING EVERYONE THAT WE NEED TO REACH WITH THE OFFERINGS THAT WE HAVE? I MEAN, THAT'S, THAT'S REALLY THE, THE BIG QUESTION.
AND THEN SECONDARILY, ARE PEOPLE SATISFIED WITH WHAT WE'RE DOING? AND SO, UM, I THINK FROM MY PERSPECTIVE, UM, AND I DON'T KNOW HOW THE OTHER BOARD MEMBERS FEEL, UH, WHEN I'M NOT GETTING CALLS FROM PEOPLE THAT ARE COMPLAINING, THAT'S USUALLY A GOOD THING.
SO, AND, AND I HAVEN'T REALLY HAD ANY OF THOSE RECENTLY.
SO, UH, UM, SO UNDERSTANDING NUMBERS, YOU KNOW, YOU LOOK AT A NUMBER AND YOU SAY, OH, WHOA, WHAT, WELL, MAYBE NOT FOR ALL THOSE ISSUES WE'RE TALKING ABOUT.
AND THEN BIG THING TO NOTE THERE TOO IS LACROSSE.
WE'RE TRYING TO START THAT PROGRAM THIS YEAR.
WE'RE OFFICIALLY, WE OFFICIALLY OPENED THE PROGRAM FOR REGISTRATION.
UH, THAT NUMBER IS ACTUALLY WRONG.
YOU HAVE THREE SOME GREAT RECRUITING, WELL WORKING ON IT.
UH, SO THIS, WE'RE DOING, UH, LATE SUMMER.
UM, I GOT AN EMAIL ABOUT THIS PROGRAM, UH, MLB PITCH, HIT AND RUN.
UM, IT'S KIND OF SIMILAR TO WHAT THE NFL DOES WITH THEIR PROGRAM FOR THE YOUTH.
UM, IT'S FREE FOR US TO RUN, IT'S FREE TO REGISTER.
UM, AND BASICALLY ANYBODY'S ABLE TO SIGN UP, UM, IT'S FROM SEVEN YEAR OLDS TO 14 YEAR OLDS.
UM, IT'S SPLIT UP IN SEVEN, EIGHT, UM, NINE, 10, UM, SPLIT UP BY AGE GROUP.
UM, THEY RUN THROUGH, THEY'LL, THEY'LL THROW, THEY'LL HIT AND THEY'LL RUN.
UM, AND YOU GOT A PROGRAM WHERE YOU, YOU ADD UP THEIR TOTAL POINTS.
UM, AND THEN AT THE END OF IT, THE, THE WINNER OF EACH AGE GROUP ADVANCES TO, UM, A REGIONAL TOURNAMENT, UM, UH, IN AUGUST.
UM, AND THEN THE WINNER OF THAT WILL ADVANCE TO THE FINALS, UM, AND GAME TWO OF THE WORLD SERIES.
UM, SO IT'S A REALLY COOL EVENT.
UM, YOU KNOW, HOPEFULLY IT DRAWS A LOT OF PEOPLE.
UM, IT'S NOT LIMITED TO JUST BLUFF AND JUST BEAUFORT, YOU KNOW, PEOPLE FROM SAVANNAH CAN GUM OR WHEREVER, ANYWHERE, UM, CAN JOIN THIS.
UM, SO IT'S A REALLY COOL EVENT.
UM, LIKE I SAID, WE'RE GONNA TRY TO DO IT LATE SUMMER, UM, KIND OF AROUND ALL STAR TIME.
AND THEN WE GOT APPROACHED, UM, BY A GENTLEMAN, ONE OF OUR, UH, LACROSSE COACHES.
HE'S GONNA RUN A FREE CLINIC FOR US IN BLUFFTON, UM, TO TRY TO GET SOME INTEREST IN OUR LACROSSE PROGRAM.
UM, YOU KNOW, WE PLAY IN THAT LEAGUE OUTTA SAVANNAH, SO WE'RE HOPING TO, YOU KNOW, AND LAST YEAR WE HAD FIVE TEAMS, UM, AND FOUR DIFFERENT AGE GROUPS.
WE'RE KIND OF HOPING WE'LL GET, YOU KNOW, SEVEN OR EIGHT TEAMS, UH, UH, TO RUN OUR PROGRAMS. SO THAT REGISTRATION'S OPEN.
AGAIN, IT'S A FREE REGISTRATION.
UH, IT'S A TWO HOUR CLINIC THAT THIS GENTLEMAN'S GONNA RUN FOR US.
UM, YOU KNOW, HE'S, HE'S PROVIDING EVERYTHING.
WE DON'T NEED TO PROVIDE EQUIPMENT OR ANYTHING FOR HIM.
SO HE'S, HE'S DOING IT ON HIS OWN.
UM, I THINK RIGHT NOW WE HAVE 10 PEOPLE SIGNED UP, UM, FOR THE CLINIC.
UM, AND THAT REGISTRATION WILL RUN, I THINK WE GOT IT SET TILL THE 24TH AT LIKE FIVE O'CLOCK JUST TO GIVE 'EM A HEADS UP OF HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE COMING.
UM, BUT THAT'S WHAT WE'LL BE DOING ON THE 26TH.
CARLOS, WE HAVE, UH, WE HAVE, UH, LACROSSE, UH, AT ALL OF THE, DO WE HAVE ANY MIDDLE SCHOOL LACROSSE OR IS IT JUST AT THE, ALL THE HIGH SCHOOLS? WE HAVE NO MIDDLE SCHOOL LACROSSE AND WE ONLY HAVE ONE LACRO LACROSSE PROGRAM NORTH OF ABROAD, WHICH IS BU HIGH.
'CAUSE I WAS GONNA ASK, UH, THE OPPORTUNITY FOR THAT CLINIC PIECE, UH, IS CAN SOMETHING LIKE THAT BE DONE NORTH OF ABROAD? UH, BECAUSE THE SPORT REALLY NEEDS TO GROW ON THIS END SO THAT, UM, BATTERY CREEK AND WELL BRANCH.
UM, RIGHT NOW THE ONLY OPTION THOSE ATHLETES HAVE IS TO, UH, TRY TO BECOME A PART OF BEAUTIFUL HEIGHTS PROGRAM THAT'S, THERE'S SOME LAYERS TO THAT TAKING PLACE BECAUSE THERE'S, THERE HAS TO BE A APPROVAL WITHIN REGION PLAY AND WITHIN THAT CLASSIFICATION FOR
[00:50:01]
THAT SCHOOL, THE TWO SCHOOLS TO COMBINE, IT'S CALLED A COMBINATION OF SCHOOLS.AND UH, BUT THAT PROCESS, WE LITERALLY HAD A KID MILITARY TRANSFER IN BECAUSE OF WHERE THEY RESIDED.
HE WAS ZONED FOR A SCHOOL THAT DIDN'T HAVE LACROSSE AND HE'S REALLY EXCEPTIONAL LACROSSE PLAYER.
HE WAS INITIALLY DENIED, BUT I ENCOURAGED A D TO GO BACK THROUGH AND RESUBMIT AND HE FINALLY GOT APPROVAL.
SO HE'LL BE ABLE TO PLAY AT BEAUTIFUL HIGH, BUT HE'LL GO TO SCHOOL WHERE HE IS GOING, BUT HE'LL PLAY AT BEAUFORT HIGH, HE'S GONNA GO SCHOOL, BUT HE'LL PLAY AT BEFORD HIGH.
UM, UM, WITH THE COMBINATION OF SCHOOLS FINALLY BEING APPROVED BY THE FOUR A CLASSIFICATION.
SO, BUT WE REALLY NEED TO TRY TO SEE IF WE CAN, YOU KNOW, OBVIOUSLY THE ENTRANCE HAS TO BE THERE, BUT NORTH BROAD SO THEY CAN GROW ON THIS SIDE OF THE RIVER.
IS THERE ANY CHANCE THAT THE GENTLEMAN WHO'S RUNNING IT, IF WE SPOKE TO HIM, MIGHT HAVE SOME INTEREST IN DOING IT? I CAN TALK A LITTLE BIT.
UM, 'CAUSE I WAS GONNA TALK ABOUT THAT SOME.
UM, WE OFFERED ONE OVER THE SUMMER MM-HMM
AND THEN WE OFFERED ONE OVER THE FALL THIS PAST SEASON.
UM, TWO DIFFERENT KIND OF STRUCTURED CLINICS.
UM, BUT THAT WAS ALSO MORE GEARED TOWARDS FOUR TO 16 OR SIX TO 16 YEAR OLDS.
UM, MORE THAN HAPPY TO COORDINATE WITH PEOPLE FROM, YOU KNOW, BATTERY CREEK, WHALE BRANCH, WHATEVER, TO GET A MORE HIGH SCHOOL AGE, UM, CLINIC.
I, I I THINK THAT WOULD BE, I THINK THAT WOULD BE GREAT TOO.
I, I THINK IF THAT'S WHAT YOU'RE GETTING AT, EVEN THOUGH I'M INCLUDING, WELL, I WOULD INCLUDE ALL OF THE SCHOOLS ON THIS SIDE TO INCLUDE BRIDGES PREP.
SO I'M PRETTY SURE THEY HAVE KIDS THERE.
SO WHAT WENT IN THIS HAS HAPPENED BECAUSE BRIDGE PREP IS A CHARTER BASED ON SOUTH CAROLINA HIGH SCHOOL LEAGUE RULES.
THOSE KIDS COULD ALSO BECOME PARTICIPANTS.
SO REALLY HAVE TO INCLUDE SURE, YEAH.
THE THREE PUBLIC AND THAT CHARTER MM-HMM
AS WELL AS BEFORD ACADEMY, BECAUSE AGAIN, WITH THE CHANGE TO, UH, THE LEGISLATION, BEFORD ACADEMY, IF THEY HAD KIDS THERE THAT HAD INTEREST IN LACROSSE, THEY COULD GO TO, UH, PLAY AT THE SCHOOL IN WHICH THEY RESIDE WHERE BRICK AND MORTAR HOME IS.
RIGHT NOW EVERYONE ON THIS SIDE WILL BE TRYING TO PLAY AT B HIGH BEAVER HIGH.
BECAUSE THAT'S THE ONLY ONE OFFERED.
NO, I HAVE NO PROBLEM REACHING OUT TO, IF I COULD GET CONTACT INFO FROM ALL THE ABDS OR WHATEVER TO PROMOTE IT WITHIN THE SCHOOL, WE, I, I DON'T THINK WE WOULD HAVE ANY PROBLEM HOSTING THAT AT BURTON WELLS.
I THINK, I THINK THAT, UM, AND WE'VE TALKED ABOUT THIS, I'VE TALKED ABOUT THIS BEFORE, THAT, YOU KNOW, THERE'S BEEN A NEW CONTRACT, RIGHT? YES.
SO THE INTERACTION BETWEEN THE SCHOOL DISTRICT AND PARKS AND REC, UM, THAT'S VERY IMPORTANT AND CRITICAL AND UM, UM, HOWEVER WE CAN DISSEMINATE THAT INFORMATION AT THAT LEVEL, UH, BECAUSE THERE'S OBVIOUSLY AN INTEREST AND, UH, UM, ANYTIME WE CAN LEVERAGE THAT MM-HMM
SO WE CAN BE VIEWED AS A, YOU KNOW, OBVIOUSLY A FEEDER SYSTEM, UH, TO EXPANDING SPORTS AT THE HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL AS WELL.
SO THAT'S KIND OF DIRECTION THAT WE WANT HEAD IN LACROSSE.
SO YEAH, THAT WOULD BE GREAT TO KIND OF WORK TOGETHER AND TRY AND GROW THROUGH THAT TOGETHER.
DON'T, LET'S NOT, UH, LET'S NOT FORGET THE SCHOOLS.
I MEAN, THERE'S, I MEAN, EVERY KID, THERE'S, THERE'S COMMONALITY.
EVERY KID WHO'S IN OUR PROGRAM'S GOING TO A SCHOOL SOMEWHERE.
SO THAT'S, YOU KNOW, THAT'S A GOOD THING.
UM, SO OTHER THAN THAT, WE HAD AN ADULT BASKETBALL THAT, LIKE I SAID, JUST WRAPPED UP.
BROCK DID A GREAT JOB WITH THAT.
HE'S ALSO, BROCK'S ALSO BEEN DOING A LOT WITH THE YOUTH LACROSSE CLINICS AND, AND REGISTRATION AND STUFF LIKE THAT.
SO HE'S A VERY GOOD RESOURCE FOR THAT AS WELL.
UM, AND THEN ADULT SOCCER, WE JUST OPENED THAT REGISTRATION THAT'S GONNA START IN ABOUT A MONTH.
UM, I WOULD ANTICIPATE THAT ONE'S PROBABLY, I THINK WE CAPPED IT AT 80 PARTICIPANTS.
I WOULD EXPECT THAT WE'RE PROBABLY GONNA GET TO 80 ON THAT JUST BECAUSE, BECAUSE QUESTION SOCCER, SOCCER IS GONNA BE IN, IN HIGH DEMAND QUESTION ON THE ADULT BASKETBALL.
IS THIS A TEAM? CAN A, UH, CHURCH, LETS SAY YOU, ARE YOU GONNA OPEN UP A CHURCH LEAGUE? IS THESE CERTAIN LEAGUES WHERE A CHURCH CAN BRING IN THEIR OWN TEAM TO PLAY? YEAH, I MEAN, WE DON'T HAVE ANYTHING CHURCH SPECIFIC.
UM, FOR A WHILE WE HAD A CHURCH LEAGUE SOFTBALL, BUT WE HAVE CHANGED THAT TO NOW JUST ADULT CO-ED SOFTBALL.
UM, JUST BECAUSE I, WE FELT LIKE WE NEEDED TO MOVE IN A DIRECTION OF, YOU KNOW, INCLUSIVE OF OTHER THAN JUST CHURCHES, BUT A CHURCH COULD ABSOLUTE, OUR REGISTRATION FEE IS SIMILAR.
IT'S AN INDIVIDUAL REGISTRATION FEE WHERE YOU, DURING THE REGISTRATION, YOU HAVE A SLOT TO PUT WHAT TEAM YOU WANNA SIGN UP FOR.
SO IF A CHURCH WANTED TO PUT A TEAM TOGETHER, JUST LIKE ANY OTHER GROUP OF PEOPLE WANTED TO PUT A TEAM TOGETHER, UH, THEY WOULD JUST PUT WHAT TEAM THEY'RE REGISTERING FOR AND WE, WE PUT 'EM ALL TOGETHER ON THE SAME TEAM.
AND THEN AS FAR AS REACHING OUT, I KNOW THAT SINCE WE KNOW THAT MIDDLE SCHOOL IS ALREADY PLAYING, BUT THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS, THERE'RE
[00:55:01]
NO SPORTS.SO IS THERE A WAY THAT WE COULD REACH OUT OR WHAT ARE WE DOING TO REACH OUT TO THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS, UH, THOSE STUDENTS OR WAS THAT, UH, 6, 7, 8 YEAR OLDS, THEY'RE NOT PLAYING ANYWHERE.
AND SO IF WE, MY THINGS, WE CAN GET OUR HOOKS INTO THOSE, WE CAN GET THOSE 6, 7, 8, 9 YEAR OLDS TO PLAY.
THEY ARE MORE LIKELY TO STAY WITH THE PROGRAM.
YOU KNOW, THAT'S YOUR, YOU GET THOSE IN, THEY'LL STAY IN 6, 7, 8 YEARS.
SO I MEAN, IT IS JUST A MATTER OF GETTING THE INFORMATION TO THE, UH, ELEMENTARY AGE GROUP.
I MEAN, THERE'S DEFINITELY INTEREST.
I MEAN, THOSE KIDS ARE DEF DEFINITELY DESIRE TO BE A PART.
UM, SO JUST A MATTER OF GETTING INFORMATION, UM, TO THE ELEMENTARY, UM, LEVEL.
CAN WE DO THAT THROUGH, I DON'T KNOW, LE I I'M OLD FASHIONED WHAT LEAFLETS THROUGH, I MEAN, I MEAN, IF THE INFORMATION'S GIVEN TO ME, I CAN GIVE IT TO THE DISTRICTWIDE COMMUNICATION.
THEY WILL VETTED AND PUSH IT OUT OKAY.
SO, I MEAN, THAT'S ALL THAT NEEDS TO HAVE.
WOULD THAT BE THROUGH MR I GUESS THAT WOULD BE THROUGH MR. BROWN.
WELL, I'M OLD SCHOOL WHERE WE WOULD DO A FLYER AND YES.
PUT IT OUT, FLY TO THE SCHOOLS.
BUT WHEN YOU SAY ELEMENTARY SPORTS ORDERING TO OH, I WOULD SAY, I MEAN THAT AGE GROUP REALLY FALLS.
THAT'S WHAT YOU ARE GETTING RIGHT NOW.
I MEAN, I SEE OUR SEASON IS OPEN NOW FOR THOSE AGE GROUPS AND WE HAVE OPEN REGISTRATION GOING ON NOW FOR THAT AGE GROUP.
BUT IF WE WANTED TO TACKLE AND GET INTO THE SCHOOLS, WE'LL GET A FLYER DONE, JEREMY, WE CAN GET A FLYER DONE, GET IT TO, UH, MR. CAVE AND HE CAN, UM, VET IT UP THE CHAIN ON WHERE IT NEEDS TO GO AS FAR AS THE SCHOOLS ARE CONCERNED.
SO, SO THEN I WOULD, IT WOULD BE TO, UH, RIGHT NOW TO ALL THE SPRING SPORTS.
'CAUSE MY, I HAVE A 4-YEAR-OLD AND YOU KNOW, SINCE YOU HAVE SOME SPORTS THAT I THINK YOU JUST SAID THAT FOUR YEAR OLDS CAN PLAY IN.
I MEAN, THOSE KIDS, I KNOW THOSE PARENTS WOULD, UH, LOVE TO GET THEIR KIDS INTO SOMETHING.
DO WE, DO WE, DO WE FROM A, UM, FROM A, UH, MARKETING STANDPOINT, I MEAN, IN TERMS OF OUR METRICS ON THAT, IN TERMS OF, YOU KNOW, I, I PRESUME ANYBODY WHO, WHO COMES IN VIA REGISTRATION, WHATEVER ONLINE, RIGHT? YEAH.
THEY'RE THEN ON A LIST THAT THEY GET SENT STUFF EVERY TIME.
I MEAN, THAT'S A, SO ARE ALL OF OUR METRICS ON OUR WEBSITE, WE'RE GETTING GOOD HITS AND EVERYTHING ON THAT.
AND WE HAD A MARKETING MEETING TODAY, DEPUTY DIRECTOR IN THE, IN THE MARKETING, UM, GURU BACK THERE.
SO WE ARE BASICALLY GETTING READY, WELL, LET ME FINISH UP.
WHEN I COME UP, I'LL TALK ABOUT IT.
ALRIGHT, BECAUSE I'M GONNA STEAL ANYBODY.
TALK ABOUT THE SENIOR PROGRAM.
UM, WE PUT TOGETHER SOME DATA FROM 2023 TO 2024.
UM, THOSE NUMBERS ARE A TOTAL OF HOW MANY, UM, PARTICIPANTS WE HAVE SERVED IN THE COMMUNITY.
UM, GROUP DINING, OBVIOUSLY YOU CAN SEE 15,842.
THAT NUMBER HAS GROWN TREMENDOUSLY BECAUSE WE HAVE NOW EIGHT CENTERS OPEN.
SEVEN OF THEM HAVE FOOD AND THEM ONE CURRENTLY DOESN'T.
THAT'S LEN BROWN THAT WE'RE STILL TRYING TO BUILD.
UM, IT'S NOT BEEN SUPER SUCCESSFUL, UM, AS WE HOPED, BUT WE ARE STILL TRYING.
UM, THE HDMS ARE HOME DELIVERY TO HOME BOUND PEOPLE.
UM, THE NUMBER, IT LOOKS LIKE IT DROPPED, BUT UNFORTUNATELY THAT IS JUST PEOPLE WITH AGE AND HOME BOUND THAT PASS AWAY.
BUT THE NUMBERS, THEY JUST KEEP COMING IN EVERY DAY.
BUT, UM, WE, YEAH, THAT'S FINE.
UM, I PICKED PORT ROYAL TO HIGHLIGHT FOR THE MONTH.
UM, THEY DID A LOT OF COMMUNITY OUTREACH, UM, BY MAKING PILLOWS FOR NURSING HOMES, DOING ALL TYPES OF THINGS.
THEY HAD A GINGERBREAD CONTEST WITHIN THE, UM, CENTER, AND THAT WAS SOMETHING THEY REALLY ENJOYED DOING.
UM, THEY TAKE LOTS OF FIELD TRIPS.
UM, THEY, UM, SPONSORED A FAMILY FOR CHRISTMAS, SO THEY GOT TOGETHER AND PURCHASED GIFTS FOR FAMILIES.
UM, THAT IS THEIR JANUARY CALENDAR THAT I JUST WANTED TO SHOW OFF THAT THEY ARE CONSTANTLY ON THE MOVE AND DOING A LOT OF DIFFERENT THINGS IN THE COMMUNITY.
OTHER THAN THAT, WE HAVE A WAITING LIST OF LIKE A HUNDRED PLUS FOR OUR BLUFFTON LOCATION.
OUR PORT ROYAL IS ON A WAITING LIST.
THEY PROBABLY HAVE ABOUT 50 ON THE WAITING LIST.
HELENA, THEY'RE ALL, EVERYONE'S ON A WAITING LIST
[01:00:01]
ALMOST, EXCEPT FOR DALE AND LYNN BROWN.SO WE HAVE A MAXIMUM NUMBER OF PEOPLE WE CAN SERVICE AT A PARTICULAR FACILITY.
JUST DUE TO TRANSPORTATION AND SPACE AVAILABILITY.
THEY MUST BE DOING SOMETHING RIGHT.
OKAY, SO YOU GUYS HAD ASKED ABOUT NUMBERS AND EVERYTHING LIKE THAT.
UM, THOSE NUMBERS ARE A LITTLE OFF JUST BECAUSE WE SWITCHED FROM MAX GALAXY TO REC DESK AND EVERYTHING.
UM, BUT THIS IS PRETTY MUCH THE GIST OF EVERYTHING.
UM, THE BIGGEST REASON THAT YOU SEE IT GOING UP AND DOWN IS BECAUSE, FOR EXAMPLE, BLUFF AND POOL WAS CLOSED FOR ONE TIMEFRAME AND THEN NOW THEY'RE CLOSED AGAIN.
SO THAT'S WHY YOU SEE A BIG CHANGE UP AND DOWN.
BUT 2023, THAT'S PRETTY MUCH YOUR IDEAL SETTING BECAUSE ALL THREE POOLS WERE OPEN, OR ALL FOUR POOLS WERE OPEN DURING THAT TIME, DURING THAT YEAR.
AND PROBABLY SOME OF THOSE CHECK-INS ARE FINS, RIGHT? CORRECT.
AND, AND THERE WAS A, A, A DIFFERENT ALLOCATION BETWEEN THEM TO OTHER POOLS BECAUSE WHEN BLUFFTON WAS CLOSED, RIGHT? CORRECT.
SO BATTERY CREEK IS THE ONE POOL THAT GETS MORE PEOPLE WHEN BLUFFTON CLOSES.
SO MOST OF THE PATRONS GO TO BATTERY CREEK POOL RIGHT NOW.
CURRENTLY MOST OF THE PATRONS THERE ARE FROM BLUFFTON SIDE.
WHEN DID BLUFFTON CLOSE THIS YEAR? UM, FOR THIS TIME IT WAS JUNE.
AND ARE YOU COMMENTING WHO'S GONNA CO ERIC? ERIC'S GONNA COMMENT ON THAT.
SO THIS HERE IS FOR BATTERY CREEK AND BEAUFORT FOR THE NUMBERS, YOU GUYS WANTED TO SEE EXACTLY HOW MUCH FINS WAS ACTUALLY USING THE FACILITY.
THIS WAS VERY HARD TO DO WITH REC DESK BECAUSE I HAD TO LITERALLY SIT THERE AND LOOK AT EACH INDIVIDUAL CHECK IN, BUT I WAS ABLE TO COME UP WITH NOVEMBER AND DECEMBER, UM, FOUR FINS, UM, FOR NOVEMBER IT WAS 470 CHECK-INS, AND THEN FOR DECEMBER WAS 434 CHECK-INS.
SO THAT'S THE BIGGEST DIFFERENCE THERE, UM, COMPARED TO JUST THE PUBLIC AND THEN TO FINS ITSELF.
SO, WELL, THIS, THIS REALLY DOES, UH, GIVE US GOOD FEEL ABOUT THE ACTIVITIES THAT ARE GOING ON THERE.
UM, NOW SOME OF THEM ARE LOW, LIKE FOR EXAMPLE, JUST REGULAR SWIM LESSONS ARE LOW BECAUSE IT, PEOPLE DON'T LIKE GOING OUTSIDE IN THE COLD
BUT, UM, SO OBVIOUSLY DURING THE SUMMERTIME THE SWIM LESSONS WILL REALLY INCREASE DURING THAT TIMEFRAME.
ARE THOSE PRIVATE SWIM LESSONS OR, OH YEAH.
AND YOU GOT SCHOOL LESSONS, RIGHT? YEP.
SO THOSE ARE PRIVATE AND GROUP SWIM LESSONS.
AND THEN YOU HAVE THE SCHOOL SWIM LESSONS AS WELL.
A LOT OF AEROBICS IN BUFORT, HUH? YES.
AND, AND WHAT'S ISR THAT IS? ISR IS THE INFANT.
SO THEY HAD TO GO TO BATTERY CREEK ONE DAY BECAUSE OUR, UM, OUR WATER WAS EXTREMELY COLD THAT DAY.
BUT THEY'RE NORMALLY AT OUR BEAUFORT POOL.
AND BLUFFTON HAS A BIG ZERO, RIGHT? YEAH,
THERE'S NOTHING FROM BLUFFTON RIGHT NOW.
SO HERE ARE OUR NORMAL THINGS.
SO IDEALLY THIS IS HOW I WOULD DO THE CHECK-IN FOR YOU GUYS MOVING FORWARD, BECAUSE LIKE I SAID, IT WAS REALLY A LOT OF WORK JUST TO GET THAT INFORMATION THERE.
BUT OUR HOURS ARE STILL THE SAME.
OUR SCHOOL SWIM LESSONS STILL THE SAME AS WELL.
UM, MOST OF OUR BLUFFTON SWIM LESSONS ARE COMING OVER TO BATTERY CREEK POOL RIGHT NOW.
UM, AND THEN WE HAVE OUR DEEP WATER AEROBICS AND THEN THE FINS, AND THEN THIS IS THE, SO FOR THE PUBLIC FOR NOVEMBER WAS 876.
AND THEN FOR FINS, OBVIOUSLY 470, UM, AND THEN DECEMBER SIX 17, AND THEN FOR FINS 434.
BUT THEY'RE BASICALLY USING 50% OF THE POOL.
I MEAN, CAPACITY WISE, AND I MEAN, MOST OF THE PUBLIC KNOWS WHEN THEY SHOW UP, THEY KNOW, OKAY, WELL WE'RE COMING DURING THIS TIME.
[01:05:01]
PUBLIC WHEN FINS ARE THERE, BUT MOST OF THE PUBLIC WANTS TO COME BEFORE THEM.IS IT, IS IT A HINDRANCE? I MEAN, I MEAN, ARE IS, ARE THE FINS AND EVERYBODY ELSE PLAYING WELL AND EVERYTHING'S GOOD? YEAH, EVERYONE'S POLITE AND EVERYTHING.
IT'S JUST SOME PEOPLE ARE A LITTLE BIT INTIMIDATED WHEN THEY SEE THESE SWIM TEAM KIDS JUST LAUGH BACK AND FORTH, BACK AND FORTH.
SO, WELL THAT'S ALWAYS BEEN AN ISSUE FOR US.
I THINK WE GIVE THEM A REALLY GOOD DEAL IN TERMS OF, UH, CORRECT IN TERMS OF, UH, WHAT WE'RE PROVIDING THEM AT THE COST.
AND I THINK THE, AT LEAST IN MY MIND, THE QUESTION IS WHETHER OR NOT THAT'S BEING DETRIMENTAL TO OUR OTHER FOLKS THAT ARE WITH US.
AND I THINK I HEAR YOU SAYING, NOT REALLY.
SO, UM, FOR BEAUFORT POOL, UM, SAME THING.
OUR SCHOOL SWIM LESSONS STILL THE SAME AS WELL.
UM, WE DID OFFER SCUBA DURING ONE MONTH, UM, BUT NOW, RIGHT NOW THERE NO ONE'S COMING FOR SCUBA.
UM, AND THEN WE ALSO OFFER WATER AEROBICS.
MISS BELINDA, THAT WATER AEROBICS CLASS IS REALLY POPULAR.
UM, ROUGHLY ABOUT 15 TO 20 ISH PEOPLE IN EACH CLASS.
SO THAT'S A PRETTY POPULAR CLASS.
SHE'S ACTUALLY WANTING TO ADD ANOTHER DAY IF POSSIBLE.
SO HOPEFULLY THAT WOULD BE, IS THAT A 70 30 PROGRAM? YES.
AND THEN FOR THE CHECK-INS, FINS DOESN'T GO THERE.
SO THIS IS JUST THE TOTAL CHECK-IN FOR THIS FACILITY.
661 FOR NOVEMBER AND 727 FOR DECEMBER.
UM, OBVIOUSLY ALVIN SETTLES POOLS CLOSED.
BLUFFTON POOL IS CLOSED AS WELL.
AND THEN WE OFFER ALL OF OUR DIFFERENT CLASSES.
SO THE GROUP SWIM LESSONS AND THE PRIVATE SWIM LESSONS, THEY'RE ALL YEAR ROUND.
UM, I THINK THAT DOING ALL THE GROUP SWIM LESSONS ONLINE ADVERTISEMENT WISE IS ACTUALLY HELPED ME OUT A LOT BECAUSE PARENTS CAN LITERALLY JUST SIGN THEIR KIDS UP FOR THOSE GROUP SWIM LESSONS, ONLINE PRIVATE LESSONS.
THEY'RE A LITTLE BIT COMPLICATED TO WHERE IT HASN'T BEEN DONE ONLINE YET, BUT THEY'RE STILL BEING OFFERED.
SO IT'S A HUGE TURNOUT FOR PRIVATE LESSONS AS WELL.
WE OFFER THE STROKE IMPROVEMENT.
WE HAVEN'T REALLY SEEN THAT MANY, BUT MOST ADULTS, IF THEY'RE WANTING ANY TYPE OF LESSON FROM US, THEY'RE WANTING SWIM LESSONS.
SO THEY'RE INVOLVED WITH THAT GROUP AND PRIVATE SWIM LESSON ASPECT.
UM, AND THEN WE OFFER CPR, THE NEXT LIFEGUARDING CLASS THAT WE HAVE IS COMING UP.
HOPEFULLY WE GET PEOPLE SIGNED UP.
PEOPLE HAVE EMAILED, BUT NO ONE HAS SIGNED UP YET.
ANY OTHER QUESTIONS FOR ANTOINETTE? THANK YOU.
SO, UM, PROGRAMS, UM, WE'RE STILL WORKING ON SOME PROGRAMS RIGHT NOW.
I'M CURRENTLY WORKING ON, UM, SPRING BREAK CAMP.
I'M ALSO, UM, WORKING WITH THE BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB.
ERIC AND I DID HAVE A MEETING WITH THEM ON LAST MONTH.
AND SO WE'RE WAITING ON THEM TO TAKE THAT BACK TO THEIR BOARD AND SEE UM, WHAT WE CAN PUT TOGETHER AT LYNN BROWN.
UM, SO THAT'S BEAUFORT BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB THEN? YES.
SO WE'RE WORKING ON PICKLEBALL CLASSES OFFERING PICK INDOOR PICKLEBALL CLASSES AT LYNN BROWN.
UM, WE ARE TRYING TO REACH OUT TO FIND AN INSTRUCTOR FOR THAT CLASS, BUT IF NOT, WE'RE GONNA DO IT WITHIN HOUSE.
WE'RE GONNA HAVE SOMEONE TO CONDUCT THOSE CLASSES.
UM, AS WELL AS DANCE AND, UM, ARTS CLASS, LIKE MARTIAL ART CLASSES.
UM, WE STILL OFFERING ZUMBA, LINE DANCE, BACHATA, THOSE THINGS ARE STILL GOING ON, AND THAT'S BOTH ON THIS SIDE AND ON SOUTH OF ABROAD.
UM, MENTOR GROUPS ARE GOING REALLY WELL OUTSIDE OF THE ALL BOYS MENTOR GROUP.
WE HAVE MENTORS, WE HAVE TON OF MENTORS, BUT IT'S HARD TRYING TO GET THE KIDS IN, GET MENTEES.
SO, UM, WE'RE ACTUALLY TRYING TO SPREAD THE WORD THERE.
UM, EVENTS, WE HAVE PARTNERED WITH THE BEAUFORT, UM, CITY OF POLICE.
WE HAD A, UM, SCHOOL BREAK MOVIE EVENT THAT WAS DONE ON JANUARY 2ND, AND IT WAS PRETTY GOOD.
THE CHIEF OF POLICE, SHE WAS VERY EXCITED ABOUT THAT.
SHE'S ACTUALLY, UM, SPOKE WITH ME ON HAVING MORE, SO WE HAVE MORE, MORE, THAT'S ONE THAT'S SCHEDULED FOR THE SPRING BREAK AND ALSO DURING THE SUMMER.
SO WE'VE BEEN DOING SOME PARTNERING, UM, WITH OUTSIDE ORGANIZATIONS AS WELL.
UM, LIKE THE SELECT HEALTH OF SOUTH CAROLINA.
SO WE HAVE A REPACK THE BACKPACK EVENT COMING UP FEBRUARY 8TH.
UM, SO THAT'S AN EVENT WHERE THEY'RE GONNA HAVE VENDORS COME OUT, SET UP TABLES, AND, YOU KNOW, WE HAVE A LOT OF BACK TO SCHOOL DRIVES.
THIS ONE IS GONNA BE WHERE WE'RE GONNA REPACK THE BACKPACKS.
[01:10:01]
THIS TIME KIDS ARE BROKE, ALL THEIR CRAYONS, PENCILS DON'T HAVE ERASES.SO WE ARE GONNA, YOU KNOW, GIVE THEM THOSE THINGS.
UM, TO FINISH OUT THE SCHOOL YEAR.
AND, UM, TOMORROW WE'RE ACTUALLY GONNA HOST A, UH, VISION BOARD PARTY AT LYNN BROWN.
WHAT'S THAT? SO IT'S WHERE THE KIDS ARE GONNA SIT DOWN AND TALK ABOUT THEIR DREAMS AND THEIR GOALS.
AND WE HAVE A SPEAKER THAT'S GONNA COME IN, DR. CHRISTOPHER THOMPSON.
HE'S OVER THE THUMBS UP PROGRAM.
HE'S GONNA COME AND SPEAK WITH THE KIDS, CONNOR INSPIRE THEM A LITTLE BIT.
NOW, ALL, ALL OF THIS ACTIVITY IS CENTERED IN BEAUFORT, IS THAT CORRECT? YES, AS OF RIGHT NOW.
SO WE'RE GONNA START OVER HERE.
WE'RE GONNA EVENTUALLY WORK OUR WAY SOUTH.
WHAT ABOUT, UM, LIKE CLASSES AND THINGS LIKE, OBVIOUSLY SOME OF THESE ARE FUTURE.
I JUST REMEMBER US HAVING A DISCUSSION ABOUT JUNGLE BODY DANCING LAST TIME.
WE, WE HAVE A LITTLE BIT OF WORK, UH, TO DO.
GETTING THE COMMUNITY TO LOOK AT, LIKE, THE COMMUNITY LOOKS AT US FOR ATHLETICS, WITHOUT, WITHOUT A DOUBT, GETTING PEOPLE TO LOOK AT US FOR CLASSES IS KIND OF THE NEXT BIG HURDLE THAT WE HAVE TO CROSS.
BUT WE, WE GET GREAT PARTICIPATION IN THE CLASSES THAT HAVE ALREADY EXISTED.
IT'S KIND OF STARTED AS NEW ONES TO GET IT GOING.
UM, BUT YEAH, RECREATION MEANS A LOT OF DIFFERENT THINGS, RIGHT? ABSOLUTELY.
[9. Organizational Update]
SO, UM, REAL BRIEF, UH, AS I WAS SAYING BEFORE, WE HAD A MEETING PRIOR TO THIS MEETING ABOUT TELLING OUR STORY.AND I THINK WE NEED TO DO A BETTER JOB OF TELLING OUR STORY ON WHAT PROGRAMS THAT WE'RE DOING.
NOW, ATHLETICALLY WE OFFER AND WE TELL A GREAT STORY WITH OUR ATHLETIC PROGRAMS. SO NOW, UM, WE'RE GONNA, WE'RE GONNA MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE TELLING OUR STORY ON OUR NEW RECREATION PROGRAMS THAT'S COMING ONLINE, OUR, UM, TUTORIAL PROGRAMS, DANCE PROGRAMS, WHATEVER THE CASE MAY BE.
EVERY WEEK, WE WANT TO HIGHLIGHT SOME TYPE OF STORY, UM, UM, THAT TOOK PLACE IN RECREATION.
SO WE DEFINITELY WILL BE TELLING A BETTER STORY WHEN IT COMES TO ALL OF OUR PROGRAMS, UM, IN THE DEPARTMENT OF PARKS AND RECREATION.
UM, WANT TO TALK ABOUT THE POOL OVER IN BLUFFTON.
UH, THE CONTRACTOR HAD SOME ISSUES WITH, UM, WITH, UM, MATERIALS ON BACK ORDER.
SO WE DID NOT MEET THE DEADLINE, BUT ONE OF THE BEAUTY, A BEAUTY FOR US, ONE OF THE THINGS THAT I WILL CALL, UM, GREAT FOR US FOR EVERY DAY THAT THEY DON'T MEET THE DEADLINE, THEY'RE BEING FINED AND THEY'RE PAYING A HEALTHY FINE FOR NOT GIVING US THAT POOL BACK ON THE DAY THAT THEY PROMISED US THAT.
SO I KNOW THAT'S NOT WHAT WAS THE DAY THAT THEY PROMISED? UM, IT'S COMING UP, UH, FEBRUARY 1ST.
UM, I KNOW EVERYBODY DON'T WANT TO HEAR THAT, BUT, UM, ONCE IT GOES OUT TO THE CONTRACTORS, IT'S OUT OF OUR HANDS.
WE DEAL WITH BALLS AND BATS AND NOT HAMMERS AND NAILS.
AND SO, UH, OR MAYBE SHANE MAY DEAL WITH S AND NAILS, SO I SHOULDN'T SAY THAT.
WE ALL NAILS AND POOLS DON'T SOUND LIKE THEY'RE GONNA GET YEAH, THEY, THEY'RE ALL MIXED TOGETHER.
UM, AND, AND ANOTHER HIGHLIGHT, UH, THE WESLEY FELIX AND THE, UM, AGNES MAJOR, UM, COMPLEXES.
WE'LL BE GETTING NEW FACILITIES.
UM, WE ACTUALLY, UH, BROUGHT THAT TO COUNCIL AND IT WAS APPROVED.
WE HAVE A, UM, CONTRACTOR IN PLACE, AND SO THEY'RE DOING THEIR DUE DILIGENCE AS FAR AS PERMITTING AND ALL OF THAT.
WE DON'T HAVE A DATE ON WHEN SHOVELS WILL HIT THE GROUND, BUT WE KNOW THAT, THAT THOSE PROJECT, THOSE PROJECTS ARE MOVING FORWARD AND WE'RE EXCITED ABOUT THAT.
UM, AND THEN WE HAVE MULTIPLE PROJECTS, MULTIPLE CIP PROJECTS THAT WE HAVE IN YOUR BACK ORDER THAT YOU GUYS CAN TAKE A LOOK AT THAT WILL BE TAKING PLACE ALSO, I MEAN, THE LYNN BROWN WILL BE GETTING A NEW GYM, UH, FLOOR, NEW WOOD FLOOR, UM, NEW, UM, BLEACHERS, UH, RESTROOM, UH, RENOVATIONS.
OUR BLUFFTON CENTER WILL BE GETTING A NEW MAKEOVER INSIDE AND OUT WITH NEW FIELDS, NEW BASEBALL FIELDS, UM, VOLLEYBALL PIT.
AND SO WE ARE EXCITED ABOUT THOSE PROJECTS AS WELL AS ALL OF THE OTHER PROJECTS THAT YOU GUYS WILL BE ABLE TO SEE IN YOUR BACK ORDER.
AND YOUR, UM, BACK UP IS, DID THEY MAKE THE DECISION AT BLUFFTON CENTER TO PUT TURF BACK THERE OR IS IT GONNA BE GRASS? IT'S ARTIFICIAL TURF.
WE'RE, WE'RE WAITING FOR THEM TO COME BACK WITH COSTS BECAUSE OF, RIGHT NOW, RIGHT NOW IT'S BID,
[01:15:01]
THE SCOPE IS OUT BID, SO WE'RE WAITING ON THAT TO COME BACK.BUT IT WENT OUT TO BID, THE SCOPE WENT OUT FOR BID FOR ARTIFICIAL TURF, AND ALSO WE ARE 60% IN, WITH FOUR NEW ARTIFICIAL TURF FIELDS AT BUCK WALTER.
AND SO, UM, THAT PROJECT, UM, I HEARD THAT IT WAS LIKE YEARS IN THE MAKING, BUT IT'S, IT'S BACK OUT THERE NOW AND WE'RE JUST WAITING ON SOME ENVIRONMENTAL STUFF TO COME BACK FROM THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA.
AND ONCE THAT HAPPENED, THAT 60% CAN TURN INTO 90% READY, AND THEN WE WILL BE READY TO GET THOSE FOUR NEW SOCCER FIELDS, WHICH IS MUCH NEEDED.
WITH THE, UH, TURF FIELDS, WHAT TYPE OF FILL ARE YOU GONNA USE? SO ARE YOU USING RUBBER? ARE YOU USING SOME TYPE OF ALTERNATIVE FILL TO GO INTO THE TURF SURFACE? REASON WHY I'M ASKING IS WHEN BEAUFORD COUNTY, THE DISTRICT, WHEN WE INSTALL OUR TWO, UH, FIELDS AT ALL SIX HIGH SCHOOLS, THE TWO INITIAL, UM, SCHOOLS WERE BEAUTIFUL, HIGH AND WELL BRANCH, THEY BOTH HAVE THE RUBBER INFIELD TOO HIGH AND WELL, WE HAVE A CHEMICAL, WELL, YEAH, WE HAVE SOME THINGS TO COUNTER THE HEAT.
BUT THE, THE, WHAT THE POINT I WANTED TO MAKE WITH IT WAS THAT, UH, THERE WAS A INCIDENT INVOLVING A STUDENT THAT HAD A, UH, ALLERGIC REACTION TO THE LATEX, TO THE RUBBER.
THUS THE FOUR ADDITIONAL FIELDS NOW HAVE A ALTERNATIVE, ALTERNATIVE FILL THIS, UH, SAND, UH, MIXTURE THAT THEY USE WITH PADDING UNDERNEATH THE TURF.
SO I DON'T KNOW IF YOU GUYS HAVE DUG THAT DEEP INTO IT, BUT YOU PROBABLY NEED TO TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION THAT PIECE BECAUSE THAT'S SOMETHING, AN ADJUSTMENT THAT WE HAD TO MAKE, UM, WHEN DOING THE INSTALLS HERE AT THE HIGH SCHOOLS.
AND I KNOW THE ONLY, THE ADJUSTMENT WE MADE WAS, I KNOW IN THE STATE OF FLORIDA WE COULDN'T USE THE RUBBER BECAUSE IT WAS SO HOT.
WHAT I DID REMIND THE CONTRACTORS OF IS THAT THAT RUBBER, DURING THE SUMMER, YOU COULDN'T USE THE FIELDS, YOU KNOW, UNTIL EVENING TIME BECAUSE OF THE, THE RUBBER WAS GETTING HOT.
SO WE HAVE NOT TACKLED THAT, BUT WE'LL LOOK INTO THAT.
HOW LONG DO YOU ANTICIPATE THE POOL'S GONNA BE DOWN? DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA? I DON'T.
WELL, WHOEVER IN NEGOTIATED A CONTRACT WITH A PENALTY PHASE IN IT THAT GOOD? YES.
AND, AND, AND I DON'T, AND I, I DO NOT LIKE GIVING A TIMEFRAME BECAUSE WHEN WE GAVE ONE, WE WERE KIND OF BEAT UP BECAUSE OF THE FACT IT DIDN'T OPEN WHEN WE GAVE A TIMEFRAME.
AND IN CONSTRUCTION, YOU NEVER GIVE, YOU GIVE ESTIMATES, BUT YOU NEVER GIVE A TIMEFRAME BECAUSE WHEN YOU DO, YOU, YOU, YOU ARE GONNA BE HELD TO THAT TIME.
MY BOSS ASKED ON MY WAY OUT TO FIND OUT WHEN THE POOL WAS GONNA BE UP AT
HE AIN'T GONNA BE HAPPY WITH ME TOMORROW.
AND EVERYTHING ELSE IS EXCELLING.
BUT, BUT THE POOL, THE POOL, IN TERMS OF, I THINK WHAT I HEAR YOU SAYING THERE, THERE AREN'T ANY BIG SURPRISES.
IT'S JUST A SUPPLY CHAIN ISSUE, RIGHT.
AND THAT WAS, WE WERE EMAIL, DALE AND I RECEIVED AN EMAIL ABOUT THE SUPPLY CHAIN AS, AS FAR AS GETTING THE MATERIAL BACK TO US.
UM, I TALKED WITH, UM, MARK SUTTON, WHICH IS ONE OF THE CIP MANAGERS, AND HE, UM, YOU KNOW, HE SENT AN EMAIL OUT TO THE CONTRACTORS, YOU KNOW, LETTING THEM KNOW, MAKING THEM AWARE OF THE TIMEFRAME AND ALL THAT.
SO, UM, THAT'S WHERE WE ARE WITH THAT.
AND, AND I MEAN, AT THE END OF THE DAY, THE PEOPLE THAT ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE POOL FOR THE MOST PART ARE, ARE PROBABLY THE SWIM TEAM FOLKS WHO ARE TRAVELING OVER.
AND, UM, YOU KNOW, EVERYONE HAS TO UNDERSTAND THAT WE HAVE NO VESTED INTEREST IN, UH, HAVING IT TAKE LONGER
AND, AND WHENEVER THERE'S CONSTRUCTION AND MAKING BEAUTIFICATION TO WHATEVER, IT'S GONNA BE SOME INCONVENIENCE FOR EVERYBODY.
AND MY, AND WHAT I FEEL GREAT ABOUT IS THAT WE'RE STILL HAVE AN ALTERNATIVE.
YOU KNOW, WE, IT'S NOT LIKE THERE'S NO POOL RIGHT.
SO WE STILL HAVE AN ALTERNATIVE THAT THEY CAN USE.
AND SO YEAH, OUR HEARTS FEEL FOR 'EM, AND WE'RE GOING TO, WE'RE GONNA TRY AND DO OUR BEST TO GET THOSE POOLS OPEN RIGHT.
WITH WORD OF MOUTH, BECAUSE WE CAN'T PUT HAMMER AND NAIL TO NOTHING.
ANY OTHER QUESTIONS, ERIC? I DO HAVE ONE.
YOU DO? SORRY, ERIC
UH, THE ONE FIELD WE HAVE DOWNTOWN, THE COMPLEX BASAL GREEN, IS THERE ANYTHING ON THE, UH, IN THE PLANS ABOUT DOING ANY UPGRADES OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT ON THE, UH, NO, WE HAVE NOT.
AND I, I CAN TAKE A LOOK AT THAT, BUT YES SIR, I CAN, I KNOW THAT WE TURNED IN CIP, UM, PROJECTS LAST WEEK.
[01:20:01]
AND THAT WASN'T A PART OF IT.IS THAT GETTING UPDATED IN THE, WILL THAT BE IN THE BUDGET NOW? NO, IT'S NOT.
IT HAS NOT BEEN, BUT WE CAN TAKE A LOOK AT THAT AND I HAVEN'T TAKEN A LOOK AT IT.
I NEED TO RESEARCH THAT MORE, BUT I HAVEN'T.
BUT BASICALLY THERE'S A PLAN, RIGHT? AND ONCE THAT GETS READ INTO THE BUDGET RIGHT, THEN THAT CIP IS GONNA BE AVAILABLE ON, THAT'LL SHOW YOU WHAT'S, WHAT'S, YEAH.
ANTICIPATED TO BE FUNDED OVER WHAT PERIOD OF TIME, RIGHT.
ERIC? WHAT'S THE STATUS OF THE MASTER PLAN? YEAH, IT'S, UH, MOVING FORWARD.
SO MASTER PLAN IS JUST A LIVING WILL.
SO, UM, BASED ON FUNDING PROJECT, BASED ON FUNDING AND PRIORITY PROJECTS ARE MOVING FORWARD.
SO THE MASTER PLAN IS ALWAYS PUT IN PLACE TO SHOW, UM, COMMUNITIES, ELECTED OFFICIALS, STAFF, UM, WHERE WE ARE AND WHERE WE CAN BE AND WHERE WE SHOULD BE.
AND SO, UM, SOME OF THE MASTER PLAN PROJECTS THAT I MENTIONED TODAY, WESLEY, FELIX, UM, AGNES MAJOR, SO THOSE PROJECTS ARE PART OF THE MASTER PLAN, AND THOSE PROJECTS ARE MOVING FORWARD.
SO FOR EXAMPLE, THE TENNIS FACILITY IN BLUFFTON IS STILL IN THE MASTER PLAN, BUT IT'S NOT IN, RIGHT.
I MEAN, SO RIGHT IN, IN, IN THAT LIVING DOCUMENT, SO TO SPEAK, THAT YOU'RE, I MEAN, THAT'S WHAT WE'RE USING UNTIL WE HAVE OUR NEXT REVISION TO THAT.
AND, AND, AND WITH A, WITH A MASTER PLAN, STAFF WILL MAKE PROVISIONS BASED ON NEED, BASED ON SURVEYS, BASED ON 10 YEARS FROM NOW, THAT MASTER PLAN IS STILL ALIVE, BUT THE DEMOGRAPHICS MAY CHANGE.
SO YEAH, I DON'T KNOW THAT WE'VE EVER SEEN THE FINAL VERSION.
IT'S IT'S PUBLISHED ON IT'S PUBLISHED, YEAH.
UM, SO I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW, UH, FINAL QUESTION IS HOW, HOW ARE YOU DOING AND HOW ARE YOU, UH, YOU'VE BEEN HERE HOW LONG NOW? 10 MONTHS? 10, 10 MONTHS? NINE.
YEAH, 10 TO NINE MONTHS, SOMETHING LIKE THAT.
SO HOW, HOW, UH, HOW ARE YOU FEELING ABOUT IT? I'M GOOD.
I, I FEEL LIKE, UM, AS LONG AS YOU GUYS WANNA KEEP ME AROUND, I DON'T WANNA BE AROUND
WELL, WE HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH FIRING YOU, SO, OR HIRING YOU EXCEPT FOR PHIL.
BUT, UH, WE APPRECIATE YOU THINK WE HAVE THAT POWER AROUND.
I'M COUNTING ON YOU GUYS THIS WEEKEND TOO, SO
[10. Announcements]
ANYTHING ELSE FOR THE GOOD OF THE CAUSE HERE? ALL RIGHT.HAVING KIDS IN THE, HAVING CHILDREN WHO PARTICIPATE IN THE PROGRAM.
UM, I JUST THINK THAT WHAT THESE GUYS ARE DOING, I JUST WANTED TO JUST SAY FANTASTIC JOB.
WHAT, HAVING SIX CHILDREN IN THE OVERALL, IN THE PROGRAM FROM, WELL, MY SON'S GONNA BE PLAYING LACROSSE.
UH, HE WANTS PLAY LACROSSE THIS YEAR, SO I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO HIM COMING TO THOSE CLINICS.
MY DAUGHTER, AGAIN, WILL BE BACK IN SOFTBALL AND HAVE TWO BOYS WILL BE PLAYING BASEBALL.
AND THEN MY 4-YEAR-OLD, I DON'T KNOW WHAT HE WANTS TO DO, BUT HE'S GONNA, HE'S GONNA GET OUT THERE AND BURN THAT ENERGY.
SO I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO HIM, UH, COMING INTO THE REC, UH, SPORTS.
GREAT JOB TO EVERYONE OUT THERE, UH, WHO'S DOING YOUR, DOING YOUR THING, SO, UM, FANTASTIC.
YEAH, AGAIN, I JUST WANNA SAY THAT AGAIN, TACKLE WITH WHAT HE'S SAYING.
WE APPRECIATE Y'ALL, EVERYTHING YOU DO.
AND, UM, AGAIN, I, I KIND OF VIEW, UM, I KIND OF VIEW, UH, SUCCESS IN VARIOUS METRICS.
I WANT TO THANK YOU FOR THE METRICS THAT YOU PROVIDED.
I THINK THAT GIVES US A, A DIFFERENT VIEWPOINT OR AN ENHANCED VIEWPOINT ON THE INFORMATION THAT WE HAD BEFORE.
AND, UM, YOU KNOW, I THINK IN GENERAL, AT LEAST WHAT, WHAT I'M HEARING IS THAT, UH, THE MAJORITY OF FOLKS ARE SATISFIED WITH WHAT YOU ALL ARE DOING IN TERMS OF RECREATION.
SO, UH, DO, UH, I DO APPRECIATE THAT, UH, AS I BELIEVE EVERYONE ELSE DOES.
SO WITH THAT, UH, OUR NEXT MEETING WILL BE MARCH 6TH IN BLUFFTON.
AND, UM, IF NOBODY HAS ANYTHING ELSE, UH, TAKE A MOTION TO ADJOURN.
[01:25:22]
HERE'S WHAT'S HAPPENING IN BEAUFORT COUNTY TODAY.WE WERE CELEBRATING OUR ELECTION WORKERS IN BEAUFORT COUNTY.
THE BOARD OF VOTER REGISTRATION AND ELECTION, UM, THOUGHT THAT IT WAS TIME TO RECOGNIZE THOSE PEOPLE WHO MAKE OUR ELECTIONS POSSIBLE.
THESE ARE THE FOLKS WHO ARE OUT THERE IN THE FIELD ON ELECTION DAY, WORKING 14, 15 HOURS A DAY, UM, PREPARING, UH, MACHINES, DELIVERING MACHINES.
UM, YOU KNOW, THESE ARE THE PEOPLE THAT WE WANTED TO SAY THANK YOU TO.
SO WHAT WE DID TODAY WAS WE ORGANIZED AN EVENT, UH, WE CALL IT AN APPRECIATION, AND WE ALL HAD BEST PRACTICE FORUM.
AND THAT WAS A LITTLE PANEL THAT ANSWERED QUESTIONS OF CONCERN, UM, FROM SOME OF THE POLL WORKERS.
BUT WE KNOW THAT TWO POLL WORKERS WILL NEED TO PROVIDE ASSISTANCE TO A VOTER IF THEY POLL.
WE JUST WANTED THEM TO KNOW HOW MUCH WE APPRECIATE WHAT THEY DO.
SO WE PROVIDED, UH, AN APPRECIATION CERTIFICATE ALONG WITH BUTTONS THAT THEY CAN WEAR OUT IN THE PUBLIC SAYING THAT THEY ARE THE BEST POLL WORKER IN BUFORD COUNTY OR IN THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA.
WE HAD SOME OF THOSE PEOPLE, WE HAD PEOPLE IN ATTENDANCE THAT'S BEEN DOING ELECTION WORK FOR OVER 40 YEARS.
WE HAD SOME THAT WERE ONLY DOING IT FOR A YEAR.
SO IT WAS A NICE MIXTURE OF FOLKS COMING TOGETHER, SHARING STORIES.
AND WE HAVE, WE GOT A COUPLE OF OUR COUNTY COUNCIL MEMBERS WHO CAME OUT AND HELPED SERVE OUR LITTLE SNACKS THAT WE HAD.
WHAT WE DID IS ALL OF THE ELECTION WORKERS THAT CAME IN TODAY, WE, UM, TOOK PHOTOGRAPHS AND WE HOPED TO DISPLAY THEM, UM, ON OUR WEBSITE, UM, MAYBE EVEN ON OUR FACEBOOK PAGES, JUST TO SHOW PEOPLE THAT THESE ARE HUMAN BEINGS.
MAYBE SOME OF THEM LIVE IN YOUR COMMUNITY AND YOU MAY RECOGNIZE THEM AND MAY WANT TO ASK SOME QUESTION AS TO, OH, MAYBE I WANT TO DO THAT.
SO, UM, THE PHOTOGRAPHS THAT WE TOOK TODAY, AND THEY WERE ALL EXCITED ABOUT IT AND I WAS HAPPY THAT THEY WERE, AND THEY WERE WILLING, AND WE TOOK THE PHOTOS AND WE WILL DISPLAY THEM AND, UM, HOPEFULLY WE CAN USE IT AS A RECRUITING TOOL AS WELL.
SO IT DOESN'T MATTER HOW OLD YOU ARE, IT DOESN'T MATTER HOW YOUNG YOU ARE, UNLESS YOU KNOW YOU GOTTA BE AT LEAST 18, UM, TO BE, UH, A VOTER, BUT YOU REALLY, UM, WE START WORKING WITH OUR KIDS WHEN THEY'RE 16 AND 17-YEAR-OLD, WHICH THE LAW DOES ALLOW THAT THEY CAN WORK IN ELECTIONS AND WE START TRAINING THEM FROM HIGH SCHOOL.
AND, UM, WE HAVE SOME FOLKS THAT'S BEEN HERE FOR OVER 40 YEARS THAT'S BEEN DOING THIS WORK.
YOU CAN APPLY ANYTIME TO BECOME A POLL WORKER.
UM, ALL YOU GOTTA DO IS CALL OUR OFFICE, GO ON OUR WEBSITE AND SAY, I'M INTERESTED IN BECOMING A POLL WORKER.
BE ADVERTISED PERIODICALLY TO LET YOU KNOW WHERE THE TRAINING IS AND, UH, ALL YOU CAN, JUST GIVE US A CALL AND WE WILL LET YOU KNOW WHEN WE GONNA HAVE TRAINING.
THE PHONE NUMBER IS (843) 255-6900.
JUST CALL THAT NUMBER AND WE WILL MAKE SURE THAT YOU ARE PLACED ON A LIST AND WE WILL NOTIFY YOU WHEN THE TRAININGS ARE AVAILABLE.
ONCE AGAIN, THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR COMING AND BEING DRIVE CAREFULLY BACK TO YOUR DESTINATION.
YOU ALL MY HERO AND MY, AND THAT'S WHAT'S HAPPENING IN BEAUFORT COUNTY.
