CLOSED CAPTIONING PROVIDED BY BUFORT COUNTY.

GOOD MORNING, BLUFFTON.

WELCOME TO THE TOWN'S 52ND ANNUAL CHRISTMAS PARADE.

WE ARE GLAD YOU ARE HERE.

DON'T LET A COUPLE OF SPRINKLES RUIN THIS, EVEN THOUGH IT MAY DOWNPOUR LATER ON.

AH, IT'S ALREADY STARTED.

I'M DEBBIE SPANKER, DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS ROOM TOWN WITH MARK ROBERTSON, 98.7, THE RIVER RADIO PERSONALITY, AND WE WE'LL BE LETTING YOU KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON WITH EACH ENTRY.

THANKS FOR BEING HERE.

WE JUST HAVE THE BLUFFTON POLICE DEPARTMENT START LEADING THE PARADE.

WE WANNA WELCOME EVERYBODY WHO'S EITHER WATCHING ON THE COUNTY CHANNEL OR ONLINE AT BEAUFORT COUNTY TV BECAUSE YOU DIDN'T WANT TO COME OUT IN THE EVENT OF RAIN.

NICE TO HAVE YOU.

WHEREVER YOU'RE WATCHING THE UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS, PURE SIMON MARCHING BAND IS NEXT.

ALWAYS HAPPY TO HAVE BRA HAIR.

IS ISLAND MARCHING BAND ALWAYS AN HONOR AND A PRIVILEGE TO HAVE THEM IN THE BLUFFED PARADE.

NO BETTER WAY TO START A PARADE.

FANTASTIC.

HEY EVERYONE.

WELCOME OUR, UH, GRAND MARSHALS.

OUR GRAND MARSHALS ARE NEXT.

WE HAVE THREE GRAND MARSHALS THIS YEAR.

MARK.

WE DO.

AND KRISTEN AND HEIDI.

YAY.

MAYOR SKA SELECTED KRISTEN LAC AND HEIDI HANSON.

MOTHERS OF GRACE SULAK AND JUAN FIELDS'S.

FATHER OF DJ FIELDS.

AS GRAND MARSHALLS OF THE PARADE, JUAN, KRISTEN AND HEIDI ALL SUFFERED, UNIMAGINABLE, UNIMAGINABLE LOSSES OF THE LOSS OF THEIR CHILDREN.

THEY TRANSFORMED THEIR IMMEASURABLE GRIEF INTO VENUES TO ENCOURAGE AND SUPPORT BLUFFTON STUDENTS AND INSPIRE AN ENTIRE COMMUNITY WHILE HONORING THE MEMORY OF THEIR CHILDREN.

WE'RE HAPPY TO HAVE IT.

ALL THREE OF OUR GRAND MARSHALS HAVE FORMED FOUNDATIONS IN HONOR OF THEIR CHILDREN FOR SCHOLARSHIPS AND MEMORY MENTORING.

AND RIGHT BEHIND THEM, OF COURSE, SENATOR TOM DAVIS, STATE REPRESENTATIVE WESTON NEWTON AND MAKING HER SWAN SONG THIS YEAR.

MAYOR LISA SKA, MAYOR LISA SAKA.

SHE'LL BE JOINING US LATER ON.

LISA DID NOT RUN FOR REELECTION, AND SO THIS IS HER LAST PARADE FOR A WHILE.

WE DON'T KNOW IF SHE'S GONNA RUN AGAIN, BUT SHE DID 20 YEARS OF ELECTED, UH, ELECTED SERVICE AS AN ELECTED OFFICIAL.

RIGHT.

SAM AS TOWN COUNCIL AND ALSO AS MAYOR.

15 YEARS AS MAYOR OF THE TOWN OF BLUFFTON.

MAYOR.

MAYOR PROTEOR LARRY.

YES.

AND MAYOR ELECT LARRY MARY TRU.

YEP.

WE'RE SO HAPPY TO SEE THE CROWD OUT, NOT LETTING THE RAIN AVERT ANYONE.

WE WERE ALL CHITCHATTING ABOUT HOW MUCH RAIN WE'RE GONNA SEE, IF ANY AND EVERYBODY'S PHONE SAYS SOMETHING DIFFERENT.

AH, NOW.

HELLO.

COUNCIL MEMBER COUNCIL BRIDGET FRAZIER.

COUNCIL MEMBER BRIDGET FRAZIER.

AH, LOVE IT.

I DON'T, WHERE IS BRIDGET? SHE'S PROBABLY TRAILING

[00:05:01]

BUT FART.

GIVING OUT CANDY, HOPEFULLY.

OH, THERE'S BRIDGETT.

YES.

.

NEXT I CAN TELL BY THE CORVETTE IS FRED HAMILTON, COUNCIL MEMBER FRED HAMILTON.

HE IS A PART OF THE CORVETTE CLUB THAT'S HE'S DRIVING THE CORVETTE.

I THINK HE, I THINK HE BROUGHT A FEW OF HIS FRIENDS.

.

I CAN'T SEE.

I BELIEVE THERE'S 25 CORVETTES BEHIND HIM.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME? UH, .

I CAN BARELY SEE.

WOW.

BUT IF, YES, THERE ARE 25 CORVETTES.

FRED HAMILTON AND HIS 25 FRIENDS WITH 25 CORVETTES.

I WONDER IF THEY'D WANT TO JUST PART WITH ONE OF THEM.

.

I THINK THEY HAVE TOO MANY.

I LOVE IT.

BY THE WAY, OFFICIALLY WE HAVE OVERCAST SKIES.

, WE HAVE A THREAT OF SOME RAIN, BUT WE HAVEN'T REALLY SEEN, WE'VE SEEN A COUPLE OF SPRINKLES, BUT FOR THE MOST PART, THE WEATHER'S BEEN FINE.

THE LAST TIME IT RAINED WAS ON THIS PARADE WAS 2018.

RIGHT.

AND OF COURSE, THE FORECAST WHERE IT'S GONNA RAIN THE ENTIRE TIME, IT REALLY WAS NOTHING.

WE'RE HOPING IT, WE'RE HOPING IT STAYS OFF UNTIL ABOUT ONE O'CLOCK.

IT LOOKS CLOUDY, BUT IT DOESN'T LOOK LIKE, YOU KNOW, DARK CLOUDS OR ANYTHING.

SO IT'S KIND OF LIKE WHEN YOU GO TO AN AMUSEMENT PARK, WHEN IT'S OVERCAST, YOU CAN RIDE THE RIDES QUICKER.

YOU HAVE BETTER RECEIPTS.

SO DON'T LET THE RAIN SCARE YOU.

IT'S STILL A BEAUTIFUL DAY TO GO TO A PARADE.

YEP.

I DO BELIEVE FRED HAS BROUGHT ALL 25 EVERY MEMBER OF THE CORVETTE CLUB.

THIS IS, UH, THIS EVENT IS ONE OF BLUFFTON SIGNATURE EVENTS.

OKAY.

OKAY.

ALRIGHT.

AH, VERY IMPRESSIVE.

WE'RE TALKING HERE.

WE'RE TALKING HERE.

AND, YOU KNOW, CARBON FOOTPRINT.

WHAT I WAS SAYING WAS, IT WAS VERY IMPRESSIVE THOUGH.

ONE OF THE MOST ANTICIPATED EVENTS OF ALL YEAR, AND IT'S A HOMECOMING OF SORTS FOR SOME FOLKS WHO'VE LEFT BLUFFTON.

MANY OF MANY OF THEM RETURN HOME TODAY.

SOME OF THEM ARE WATCHING ONLINE.

YEAH.

SEEING A LITTLE TASTE OF HOME.

MORE THAN 125 ENTRIES TODAY.

UH, WE'VE GOT CIVIC GROUPS, DANCE SCHOOLS, EXTRA CHURCHES, BUSINESSES, SCHOOLS, CHEERLEADERS, FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS.

SO WE HAVE ABOUT 125 ENTRIES EACH YEAR.

WE DID HAVE ABOUT A DOZEN DROPOUT BECAUSE OF THE RAIN.

SO WE'LL SEE WHAT RAIN, EXACTLY WHAT RAIN.

AND SOME OF THE ENTRIES SUCH AS THE ONE IN FRONT OF US HAVE 25 ENTRIES WITHIN THE ONE ENTRY.

NO MATTER HOW OLD SOMEBODY IS WITH A CORVETTE, THEY DO LIKE THE, THE LOUD NOISES DOESN'T YEAH.

WHAT YOU GOT FOR CHRISTMAS.

RIGHT.

ALRIGHT.

THAT'S THE LAST CORVETTE.

LOUGHTON HIGH SCHOOL.

ROTC IS NEXT.

ANOTHER IMPRESSIVE GROUP.

THAT'S .

IT'S THE SERIOUS GROUP.

F*****G BOBCATS.

MERRY SO HARD.

WITH THE GRINCH RIDING IN THE BACK, APPARENTLY THEY HAVE BEEN ABLE TO ARREST AND DETAINED THE GRINCH.

THEY SAY THEY HOPE TO KEEP THE GRINCH IN CUSTODY THROUGHOUT THE HOLIDAY SEASON TO NOT SPOIL THE FESTIVE MOOD IN THE LOW COUNTRY.

SO THANK THE WOMEN AND MEN OF THE BEAUFORT COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE.

AND YOU SAID THEY ARRESTED THE GRINCH.

I THOUGHT YOU WERE SAYING THE SHERIFF WAS IN THERE, BUT, UH, NO, I, I MEAN,

[00:15:01]

WE'LL, WE'LL GET A VISUAL IN A MINUTE, BUT I, I THINK IT'S JUST THE GRINCH.

OKAY.

OKAY.

YEAH.

I THINK IT'S JUST THE GRINCH.

THERE'S THE SHERIFF.

YEAH.

THE SHERIFF IS NOT IN CUSTODY WITH THE GRINCH.

HE IS ACTUALLY OUT WALKING, GIVING OUT CANDY , THE SHERIFF'S OFFICE, UNLIKE OTHER JURISDICTIONS IN OTHER STATES, THEY HAVE LAW ENFORCEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES THROUGHOUT THE COUNTY, AND THEY WORK TOGETHER WITH MUNICIPAL LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES SUCH AS THE BLUFFTON POLICE DEPARTMENT.

THERE HE IS IN A CAGE.

THERE IS, THAT'S A GOOD LOOKING.

HE'S SKINNY.

THE GRINCH MAY NEED A HAMBURGER.

BUT I DO BELIEVE THERE NEEDS TO BE ANOTHER GRINCH IN THE SHERIFF'S OFFICE JAIL.

, FINN'S SWIM TEAM WITH A LOT OF SANTA HELPERS.

THEY'RE NOT IN THEIR BATHING SUITS, WHICH COULD HAVE BEEN APPROPRIATE FOR THE RAIN.

JUDGES ARE NEXT DOOR JUDGES NEXT DOOR.

IT'S ABOUT TO GET LOUD.

THE NEW BLUFFTON WORSHIP CHURCH HAS SERVICES SUNDAY AT NINE AND AT 10 30 LOCATED ON HER SIMMONS STREET IN SHERIDAN PARK.

MARK, HERE'S A FUN FACT ABOUT THAT ENTRY THERE.

WORSHIP SPACE WAS A BAR JUST A FEW YEARS AGO AGO, AND THEY STILL HAVE A DISCO BAR, A DISCO BALL FROM THEIR FORMER DAYS AS A BAR.

MAY RIVER HIGH SCHOOL ANIMAL WELFARE CLUB.

[00:35:01]

IS THAT, DID YOU KNOW THERE WAS ONE? YES.

BECAUSE THEY'VE BEEN IN THE PARADE BEFORE, SO THEY WORK REAL CLOSELY.

THE MAY RIVER GROUP WORKS REAL CLOSELY WITH PALMETTO ANIMAL LEAGUE, PALMETTO ANIMAL, WHICH OF COURSE IS A NON-PROFIT, NO KILL RESCUE.

THERE'S THE GRINCH WHO'S CAUSING CHAOS, CHEWING ON THE GIFTS, HOWLING DURING CAROL'S.

JUST FYI FOR, FOR ALL THOSE PEOPLE AT HOME.

STILL A WE NEED TO FIND A LULL IN THE PARADE.

WE CAN TALK ABOUT THE JUDGES.

WE REALLY HAVEN'T DONE THAT YET, BUT WE WILL.

AND THIS YEAR WE HAVE FOUR JUDGES, NOT THREE.

SO WE'VE ADDED ONE.

UM, AND I'M JUST GONNA SNEAK THIS IN AND WE'LL, WE'LL HIT A LITTLE BIO ABOUT EACH OF THEM.

BUT WE WANTED TO HONOR OUR THEME OF FISHING.

SO ONE JUDGE IS A CAREER COMMERCIAL FISHERMAN WHO HAS SPENT HIS WHOLE CAREER IN LOCAL WATERS.

ANOTHER JUDGE IS A SEAFOOD EXPERT.

AND THEN WE GOT A LITTLE CREATIVE.

THE THIRD JUDGE, DR. RODRIGUEZ, IS A SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS.

SO HE TEACHES STUDENTS HOW TO FISH FOR KNOWLEDGE .

THERE YOU GO.

AND THE FINAL JUDGE IS THE NEW EDITOR OF THE BLUFFTON THE SUN,

[00:40:01]

WHO IS ALWAYS FISHING FOR LOCAL INFORMATION.

RIGHT.

WE'LL MEET THEM LATER ON.

THIS IS ALLIANCE ROOFING, LOCAL ROOFING COMPANY ON HILTON HEAD.

THERE HE IS.

THERE HE IS.

HE'S DRIVING.

HE IS DRIVING.

WELL, LOOK AT THIS BIG OLD GUY IN THE BACK OF THE TRUCK.

A 20 FOOT ELF.

ELF.

YEAH.

WE'LL CALL HIM AN ELF.
