HEARING NONE IN MOTION TO APPROVE.
WE NOW MOVE ON THE PUBLISHED PORTION OF OUR MEETING.
UM, I SEE NO PUBLIC PRESENT, SO WE'LL DISPENSE WITH THE USUAL SET
[7. DIRECTOR’S REPORT]
OF INSTRUCTIONS AND THEN WE'LL RIGHT INTO THE DIRECTOR'S REPORT AS YOU CAN.JOHN IS, UH, OUT TODAY ON SOME IMPORTANT PERSONAL BUSINESS.
AND STEVE, UH, WE'RE JOHN SHARON.
UM, WELCOME TO MY SECOND, UH, FILL IN FOR MR. REMOLD, WHO IS, LIKE I SAID, OUT ON, UH, SOME PERSONAL BUSINESS, UM, AND HOPEFULLY SOME GOOD WORDS WHEN IT COMES BACK FROM THAT.
SO TO BEGIN THE DIRECTOR'S REPORT, UM, MY SLIDESHOW, I'LL MAKE SURE IT'S UP THERE.
TODAY'S NOVEMBER, THE NOVEMBER 22 MEETING.
UM, SEE IF I CAN CHANGE THAT AIRPORT UPDATE.
UM, FIRST THING I WANT TO KIND POINT OUT WAS WE HAD IN RELATIONSHIP WITH THE CONCOURSE TO ELDON ON HILTON HEAD ON, UH, WE HELD OUR ANNUAL FLIGHTS OF FANCY, UH, AND THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE BMW ON THE BEGINNING SLIDE, YOU'LL SEE, AND ANNA GOT A LITTLE SHORT VIDEO FOR YOU GUYS, UH, KINDA SHOW YOU WHAT WE DID ON THAT.
BUT THE EVENT WAS VERY SUCCESSFUL.
UH, I WANNA HAND OUT A SPECIAL THANK YOU TO THE BMW DRIVING TEAM.
[00:05:01]
THAT CORRECTLY.OUT OF GREENVILLE, IF YOU PURCHASED THE BMW, YOU CAN GO UP THERE AND, AND DRIVE YOUR BMW.
THEY'LL TEACH YOU HOW TO DRIVE IT AND TAKE IT TO ITS LIMITS.
AND THOSE ARE THE DRIVERS THAT CAME DOWN TO SUPPORT OUR EVENT.
UH, WE GOT MR. DEREK LEONARD AND MR. MIKE RENNER.
THOSE ARE THE DRIVERS, UH, WHICH DID AN INCREDIBLE JOB GIVEN, UH, PATRONS RIGHTS UP AND DOWN THE TAXI ON HILTON HEAD.
AND ALSO SPECIAL THANKS EVENT COORDINATORS.
WE HAD GREAT WEATHER THIS YEAR.
UM, I CAN ONLY PUT SO MANY PICTURES ON HERE.
SO I KINDA PICKED TO THE OUTLINE WHAT THE EVENT LOOKED LIKE.
THE WEATHER WAS NICE, EVERYBODY HAD A GREAT TIME.
OUR NEXT UPCOMING EVENT IS GONNA BE THE RBC THIS YEAR WITH THE PGA TOUR AND HOW THEY DO THINGS, WE'RE GETTING MORE THAT IT'S GONNA BE A MUCH BIGGER EVENT.
MORE OF THE PLAYERS ARE INCENTIVIZED TO COME TO HILTON HEAD AND PLAY THE RBC HERITAGE.
SO THEY HAVE SOME EXTRA COORDINATION TO DO WITH WHERE WE'RE GONNA PARK ALL THEIR AIRPLANES.
AND COORDINATION WITH AVIATION.
UH, AS I MENTIONED IN THE LAST MEETING, THE TOWER BID, UH, WE'RE GETTING IT READY TO PUT OUT.
FORBID IT'S OUT FORBID NOW FOR THE TOWER RENOVATIONS THAT WE HAD GRANT FUNDING FOR.
UH, SO WE CAN GET UPGRADES INTO THE TOWER AND GET THEM UPDATED TO THE CURRENT, UH, EQUIPMENT THAT'S REQUIRED.
AND THEN I KIND OF MENTIONED THE EMPLOYMENTS AND FUEL SALES.
UM, LAST MONTH WE WERE INCREASING.
THIS MONTH WE'RE INCREASING AGAIN OVER LAST MONTH.
UM, FUEL SALES AREN'T MATCHING LAST YEAR'S FUEL SALES, BUT WE KIND OF CONTRIBUTE THAT TO THE PANDEMIC.
UM, AND THE REASON WHY A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE FLYING.
AND ALSO I WANNA POINT OUT LAST YEAR, FUEL COSTS WERE, UH, A LOT LOWER THAN THEY ARE THIS YEAR.
UM, WERE KIND OF RECOVERING FROM THE INCREASED IN FUEL COSTS.
JUST LIKE IN YOUR CAR AND AIRPLANES, I KIND OF, EVERYBODY FILLS THE BURDEN OF THE COST GOING UP.
SO YOU'RE PAYING MORE ATTENTION TO IT.
LET'S TRY TO LIMIT WHERE WE'RE GONNA GO DRIVE.
PEOPLE ARE GETTING USED TO THOSE FUEL COSTS DOWN.
THEY'RE STARTING TO FLY AIRPLANES MORE.
AND WE SEE THAT FROM LAST MONTH AT THIS MONTH, BOTH ON THE JET SIDE AND ON THE AGAS SIDE OVER AT HILTON HEAD.
UM, MOVING OVER TO BEFOR EXECUTIVE.
UM, EVEN THOUGH THE PICTURE OF THE NAVION IS OVER AT HILTON HEAD THAT NAVION MAKES ITS PRESENCE KNOWN OVER A R D W QUITE A BIT.
SO I WANTED TO PUT HIM IN THERE.
UH, WE HELD OUR ANNUAL CLIENT FROG 5K EVENT.
THIS WAS THE SECOND CLIENT, UH, SECOND CLIENT FROG, BUT THIRD 5K RACE.
WE HAD MORE PARTICIPANTS OUT THERE AND TALKING TO THE PARTICIPANTS, UM, THEY SEEMED TO REALLY ENJOY THE UNIQUENESS OF BEING ABLE TO RUN ON THE RUNWAY AND THROUGH THE HANGER AREA AND ON THE TAXIWAYS.
UM, WE HAD SOME MUSIC OUT THERE SO I WAS OUT THERE MAKING SURE PEOPLE WERE MAKING THE RIGHT TURNS AND EVERYBODY THAT RAN BY ME HAD A SMILE ON THEIR FACE.
THEY WERE TRYING TO WIN THE RACE AND THEY WERE FOCUSED ON TRYING TO WIN THE RACE.
SOME UPCOMING PROJECTS OVER AT A R W.
WE JUST MET WITH LANDSCAPERS, A THIRD ROUND OF LANDSCAPERS WHO THEY SAID GIVE THEM TWO WEEKS AND THEY'RE GONNA COME BACK.
BUT THEY SPEND A GOOD TWO HOURS MEASURING, LOOKING, UNDERSTANDING WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR.
SO THEY'RE GONNA GO BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD AND HOPEFULLY HAVE SOME PLANS FOR US WITHIN TWO WEEKS.
SO THE NEXT BOARD MEETING, WE SHOULD HAVE A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF EXACTLY WHAT THEY'RE GONNA DO, THAT WE CAN, UM, MAKE THE OUTSIDE AREAS OF THE TERMINAL MATCH THE EXTERIOR INTERIOR TERMINAL.
UM, SAME THING WITH RW TOOL SALES JET AND ARE TRENDING UP FROM LAST MONTH.
AND FOR THE SAME REASONS WE ATTRIBUTE THOSE GUYS SALES FROM LAST.
THAT'S, AND THEN FOR CONCLUSION, UM, I GOT A VIDEO ON HERE, HOPEFULLY IT WORKS.
SO THIS IS ONE LAP AROUND HILL HEAD ISLAND AIRPORT INSIDE IT, THAT'S THE PROFESSIONAL DRIVER.
SO IT'S ABOUT A MINUTE, 20 SECONDS.
BUT AS HE GETS GOING, YOU'LL SEE THIS, IT, I KNOW IT'S A GOOD TUNE.
THAT'S THE DEPARTMENT ON THE RIGHT, RIGHT THERE.
[00:10:25]
THAT'S GONNA FOCUS.EVEN CLICKING THE, THE RADIO, GET THE LIGHTS TO COME BACK ON REAL TIME OUT AFTER A PERIOD OF TIME THEY BACK.
AND FROM THAT, WE HOPE HAVE BMW BACK NEXT YEAR.
SORRY, I DID PUT IT OUT TO THEM AND EVERYBODY PORSCHE DID THAT BEFORE WITH THIS.
AND HOPEFULLY WE GET, UH, MULTIPLE ART COMPANIES OUT THERE TO DO THIS SAME THING.
BUT EVERYBODY HAD AN INCREDIBLE TIME.
UH, SMILES ON THEIR FACE, HAD THE UHS OF SO, AND THAT, THAT'S ALL I HAVE.
ORGANIZATION, CAR, UM, THE AIRCRAFT PORTION OF THIS YEAR IS CAR SHOW IS DEFINITELY LIGHTER THAN IN THE PAST YEAR.
YOU HAVE ANY INPUT ON WHAT HAPPENED? UH, I, I DON'T WANNA SPEAK FOR THE, THE COORDINATORS OF THAT EVENT, BUT THEY REACH OUT TO, UM, MULTIPLE ORGANIZATIONS THAT THEY'VE REACHED OUT TO IN THE PAST.
SOME OF 'EM COME FROM A R W UH, I'M NOT SURE WHY PEOPLE CAME OR DIDN'T COME.
UM, I DON'T KNOW IF THEY WERE SCARED AWAY WITH THE WEATHER FROM LAST YEAR.
UM, I DO KNOW THAT, UM, ANN HAS LINKS TO THAT B 29 AND B 17.
SO I'LL BE REACHING OUT TO THEM AND PUTTING THEM IN CONTACT WITH THE EVENT COORDINATORS TO GET SOME MORE AIRPLANES LIKE THAT.
HOWARD, YOU WERE YOU SAYING THAT THE ATTENDANCE WAS LIGHT OR THE AIRCRAFT WAS LIGHT? AIRCRAFT WAS, YEAH, THERE WEREN'T MANY AIRCRAFT THERE.
AND THEN THAT THE CARS THAT NORMALLY ASSOCIATED THE AIRCRAFT STAYED ON THE MAIN CAMPUS.
OFCOURSE, NOT NECESSARILY AT THE AIRPORT.
SO IT WAS JUST NOTICEABLY DIFFERENT THAN PRIOR.
IT WAS A DECENT SHOWING OF AIRPLANES.
IT WASN'T LIKE IT WEREN'T ANY, THERE, THERE WERE AIRPLANES THERE, BUT IT WAS A LITTLE BIT THIS.
OKAY, I GOT A COUPLE OF QUESTIONS ABOUT CAMP FOR A W BY ARW.
UM, SO THIS IS THE FIRST MONTH OF, YOU KNOW, I'M DOING A SPREADSHEET TRYING TO TRACK, UM, THAT WE DIDN'T HAVE FLIGHT OPS.
WE NOT DOING FLIGHT OPS ANYMORE.
JUST GETTING THOSE ACCOUNTABILITY WAS A LITTLE DIFFICULT.
YEAH, IF I COULD GET SO WE CAN JUST TRACK IT.
JUST KIND OF KEEP KEEP IT GOING.
WAS LOOKING AT, YOU KNOW, BASICALLY OUR FUEL BASED ON THE FUEL AROUND US, UM, ISN'T, ISN'T THAT UH, OR OFF OR, YOU KNOW, WE ARE ONE OF THE, ONE OF THE LESS EXPENSIVE, UH, COMING THROUGH.
UM, AND ANOTHER THING I WANNA REMIND, JUST IF YOU CAN GET ME THAT GROWTH PROFIT THING SO WE CAN LOOK AT THAT AND TRY TO TRY TO MAKE SOME DECISIONS.
UM, THE OTHER THING IS I'VE GOT, SO I HAD SOME PEOPLE REACH OUT TO ME ABOUT HANGERS ON THE PRIVATE SIDE.
THEY'VE BEEN TRYING TO GET UP.
ARE WE TELLING 'EM WE'RE NOT INTERESTED IN DOING THE PRIVATE SIDE ANYMORE? AT AT A R W? AT A R W? YEAH.
NO, WE'RE NOT TELLING 'EM WE'RE NOT INTERESTED IN DOING THE PRIVATE SIDE.
WE HAD AND WE PUT OUT THAT LAND LEASE OPTION AND THAT'S WHAT WE'RE ENTERTAINING RIGHT NOW.
WE HAVE NOT PUT OUT A SECOND LAND LEASE OPTION FOR ANYBODY.
SO WE HAVE TO GET CLOSURE YAYS OR NAS ON THE CURRENT LAND LEASE OPTION.
WELL, NOBODY'S PUT ONE IN THERE, CORRECT? YEAH, WE HAD THREE IN THOSE THREE MERGED INTO ONE.
BUT THEY HAVEN'T OFFICIALLY PRESENTED SOMETHING TO THAT TO, TO THE AIRPORT, CORRECT? NO, WE'VE HAD, THEY, WELL WE'VE HAD BACK AND FORTH, BUT THEY HAVEN'T BROUGHT US THE LEASE TO, THEY HAVE NOT, THE THE STEP THAT THEY HAVE TO TAKE IS BRING US, WE PREVENTED PROVIDED THEM A SAMPLE LEASE.
AND THEY NOW IT'S A NEGOTIATION TIME FOR THEM TO RETURN.
AND THEY'VE HAD THAT FOR, FOR EIGHT MONTHS PROBABLY.
SO WHY WOULDN'T WE ENTERTAIN SOMEBODY ELSE'S FOR NOT REALLY.
WE'RE IN NEGOTIATIONS, BUT THAT'S OPEN.
THAT WOULD BE FIRST COME FIRST SERVE, WOULDN'T IT? I, I HAVEN'T SEEN, SEEN ANY OFFICIAL PLANS OR OFFERS FROM ANYBODY.
UH, HERE'S WHAT I LIKE TO DO, BUT IF SOMEBODY'S INTERESTED, THEY NEED TO GET WITH ME OR JOHN
[00:15:01]
AND, AND LAY DOWN WHAT THEY WOULD AGREE TO TO NEGOTIATE ON THAT ORIGINAL OPTION ONE LAND.SO WITH THE, WITH THE SAME SQUARE FOOTAGE AND EVERYTHING, IS THAT OR WE'RE NOT REALLY WORRIED.
WE'RE JUST WORRIED ABOUT GETTING THAT PERSON.
YEAH, MY CONCERN, I THINK ONCE WE GET ONE GOING THAT'LL, YOU KNOW, THAT SUCCESS TYPICALLY BREEDS SUCCESS.
AND YOU'RE STILL GONNA LET ME THAT THE, THE HANGAR HANGERS THAT THE COUNTY OR THE AIRPORTS LOOKING AT DOING, THAT'S STILL WITH COUNTY PERSONNEL WAITING TO COME BACK.
WE'RE WAITING ON THE SURVEY TO COME BACK.
OUR UM, CONSULTANTS ARE WAITING ON THE SURVEY INFORMATION TO SEE, WE KNOW WHERE THEY'RE GONNA GO, BUT THE SURVEY INFORMATION IS GONNA BE EXACTLY TO THE FOOT WHERE THEY'RE GONNA, SO THAT COMPANY, ANDREW STILL HAS NOT PROVIDED THAT INFORMATION TO THE COUNTY YET.
AS SOON AS I GET THAT I CAN DISTRIBUTE.
DOES ANDREWS DO SURVEYING TOO? OR THEY LAST, LAST QUESTION.
UM, I KNOW, UH, UNFORTUNATELY PAUL'S LEAVING BE LEAVING ON DECEMBER 3RD, I BELIEVE IS HIS LAST DAY.
UM, WHICH I, YOU KNOW, MY OPINION, UM, I'VE BEEN THERE SINCE OH SEVEN.
UH, HE WAS BY FAR OUR BEST MANAGER THAT WE'VE HAD.
UM, BUT STILL, IT'S STILL, ONCE YOU GET MORE THAN ONE, YOU GOT TWO JOB.
A LOT OF IMPROVEMENT, YOU KNOW, SINCE YOU'VE COME ON BOARD SINCE PAUL BOARD AS WELL, UM, WITH JOHN, UH, THE ONE THING I WOULD ASK IS, YOU KNOW, ME RUNNING A, I ALWAYS LOOK AT THEIR, THERE ARE THINGS THAT I, I HATE TO PASS UP, YOU KNOW, AND I NEVER, I NEVER DO.
YOU ALWAYS WANNA GET THAT WHENEVER POSSIBLE.
AND THE SECOND THING IS TALENT.
UM, OR DO WE HAVE IT IN PLACE TO DO AN EXCELLENT INTERVIEW CALL TO FIGURE OUT WHY HE'S LEAVING? WHAT, WHAT, WHAT ISSUES CAME UP? MAYBE THERE ARE NONE.
MAYBE THERE ARE SOME, MAYBE IT WAS, YOU KNOW, SO THAT WHAT WE CAN DO IS TRY TO IMPROVE SO WHEN WE GET THAT TALENT AGAIN, HOPEFULLY THE NEXT PERSON.
YOU KNOW, I MEAN, I DUNNO IF THAT'S POSSIBLE, BUT THAT'S WHAT YOU'RE ALWAYS LOOKING FOR TO MAKE SURE THAT WE, WE KEEP THAT PERSON, YOU KNOW, YOU ALWAYS WANNA HAVE EMPLOYEE.
SO IF I'M UNDERSTANDING YOU CORRECT, YOU'RE LOOKING FOR AN EXIT INTERVIEW? YEAH.
OR AFTER PAUL, WE CAN SET UP WHATEVER THE BOARD IS LOOKING FOR AND WE CAN, WELL, I WON'T SAY I'M TALKING FOR THE BOARD, BUT I THINK AS AT LEAST, YEAH, I THINK W I THINKS SMART IDEA.
ANYTIME WE HAVE ANYBODY LEAD THE FOLD THAT WE WANT KNOW, YOU KNOW, WHAT THEY LIKE, WHAT THEY DIDN'T LIKE.
UM, SO WE CAN APPROVE ON IT FOR, FOR NEXT TIME.
I'LL GET WITH JOHN AND WE'LL TALK ABOUT THAT AND SET UP SOME, AT LEAST WITH COMMITTEE BE.
AND IT MAY BE A LITTLE PREMATURE, IT'S PROBABLY IN BOTHS, BUT GIVEN THE UH, RECENT FA APPROVAL OF, UH, VARIOUS VERSIONS OF UNLEADED GASOLINE, UM, OUR SUPPLIERS OR US LOOKING TO SWITCH AT SOME POINT, UH, HEARD ANYTHING? YEAH, I HAVEN'T HEARD ANYTHING.
AND I'LL SPEAK FOR, UH, HXD SIDE CAUSE SIGNATURE HAS THEIR FUEL SUPPLIERS AND THEY HAVEN'T MENTIONED ANYTHING TO ME YET ABOUT THAT.
I KIND OF DEFER TO PAUL IN THE BACK IF HE'S HEARD ANYTHING FROM CAMPBELL YET ON THAT FRONT, I'M NOT SURE THOSE FUELS ARE BECOMING AVAILABLE AS THEY, UH, BECOME MORE POPULAR.
I WOULD SEE THAT, I WOULD HOPE THAT THEY WOULD TRY TO GET A TANK THERE.
EITHER CONVERT THE APP GAS TANK THAT WE HAVE OR ADD AN ADDITIONAL TANK FOR THAT.
UM, WELL I REALIZE IT'S THIS, THIS COULD BE A YEAR OR MORE OUT, BUT IT'S RIGHT.
IT'S PROBABLY SOMETHING THAT'S COMING.
YEAH, I'M GETTING A LOT OF EMAILS ON IT, SO I'M SEE A LOT OF TRAFFIC ON IT, BUT NOBODY'S REALLY PULLING THE TRIGGERS YET.
I CAN, I, AND I DON'T WANNA SPEAK FOR CAMPBELL OR PAUL, BUT I CAN IMAGINE THEY'RE LOOKING AT IT, IT'S OBVIOUSLY ON THEIR RADAR.
THEY, I'M SURE THEY'LL GET WITH US AND SAY, HERE'S WHAT WE'D LIKE TO DO OR HERE'S WHAT WE DO FOR, SO AS SOON AS WE OUT, I'LL DEFINITELY LET YOU KNOW I CAN JUMP IN ON THIS A LITTLE BIT.
UNLEADED FUEL WAS JUST APPROVED THIS SUMMER JUST A FEW MONTHS AGO.
AND THE ESTIMATE IS IT'S GONNA TAKE A MINIMUM OF TWO YEARS BEFORE IT REALLY COMES TO MARKET TO GET ALL THE INFRASTRUCTURE IN PLACE.
SO THERE'S GONNA BE NOTHING HAPPENING IN THE IMMEDIATE FUTURE.
STEVE, TRIVIAL QUESTION IN SERIES, I THINK YOU INDICATED THAT THE BEING DONE JOBS WERE UP AROUND A 40 MILES AN HOUR.
HOW DOES THAT COMPARE TO LANDING SPEED OF THE PLANE? UM, YOU MIGHT BE ASKING THE WRONG AND, AND SO, SO YOU'RE NOT I WONDERING THAT
NOW I'M JUST THINK IT'S, UH, A CRAZY LITTLE ANALOGY THERE THAT THESE PEOPLE
[00:20:01]
ARE EXPERIENCING WHAT A PLANE LANDING WOULD EXPERIENCE SPEEDS ON THAT ONE.BUT FAIR TO, I HAD, ID SAY I HAD TO, I TOOK PROBABLY THE FIRST FIVE OR SIX INITIAL LAP TO GET THE DRIVERS.
HERE'S MIDFIELD, HERE'S THE ENDS.
SO I DID FOUR OR FIVE LAPS AROUND THAT THING AND IT IS NOWHERE COMPARISON.
THE SPEED IS EXTREME COMPARED TO AN MORE SERIOUS QUESTION.
A FEW MONTHS AGO IN OUR MEETING, THERE WAS SOME JUST GENERAL DISCUSSION ABOUT THE FACT THAT THERE ARE NOW ELECTRIC AIRPLANES FLYING AND THE QUESTION CAME UP OR WAS NOTICED THAT WE WOULD HAVE TO CONSIDER INSTALLING CHARGING STATIONS.
IS THERE ANYTHING GOING ON IN THAT REGARD? UM, I DON'T WANNA TO SPEAK FOR JOHN.
WE STILL ARE IN COMMUNICATION WITH THAT COMPANY.
UH, INITIALLY I BELIEVE WHAT YOU GUYS WERE BRIEFED ON THAT MEETING IS WE HAD COMMUNICATIONS AND WE OUTLINED WHERE A CHARGING STATIONS WOULD BENEFIT THE AIRPORT IN CONJUNCTION WITH SIGNATURE BECAUSE THEY'RE THE FBO THERE.
UM, WE REALIZED THAT WHERE WE WANTED THOSE CHARGING STATIONS PROBABLY WOULDN'T WORK FOR AIRCRAFT CLEARANCE IN THOSE LOCATIONS AND AN AIRPLANE SITTING THERE FOR A LOT LONGER THAN IT TAKES TO FUEL AN AIRPLANE TO GET A CHARGE.
SO WE DID GIVE THAT COMPANY AN OPTION, A NEW LOCATION FOR A CHARGING STATION.
AND I HAVEN'T HEARD BACK IF THEY'RE ON BOARD WITH THE NEW LOCATION TO THAT CHARGING STATION YET OR NOT.
SO I HAVE TO DIG INTO THAT A LITTLE BIT MORE AND TALK WITH JOHN TO THAT MAYBE CORRECT IF I'M WRONG, BUT I, WHEN JOHN BROUGHT THAT UP TO US, I THOUGHT THAT WAS FOR A VERTICAL TAKE AND
IT DID VERTICAL TAKE OFF AND LANDING AS WELL AS STANDARD.
ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? YOU DON'T GO TOO FAR AWAY THOUGH.
[8. UNFINISHED BUSINESS]
WON'T MM-HMM.UH, AS YOU RECALL, LAST MONTH WE HAD, UH, TWO PRESENTATIONS FROM MR. AND MR. O' TOOL ON THE POSSIBLE USES OF, UM, AIRPORT FACILITIES AT HILTON HEAD AIRPORT.
UH, THEIR PRESENTATIONS WERE EXTREMELY PRELIMINARY.
NOT A LOT OF, UH, DETAIL YET AND FAR FROM BEING GIVEN SERIOUS CONSIDERATION.
BUT JOHN AND I HAD GONE BACK AND FORTH DURING THE MONTH AND JOHN HAS DECIDED AS IT IS TO DO THAT THIS TIME.
IT WOULD NOT BE APPROPRIATELY CONSIDER THAT TYPE OF ACTIVITY AND OPENING.
AND TO THAT END, UH, HE WROTE TO MR. FREE THEN I ASSUME HE WROTE TO MR. OTU AT LEAST HAD A CONVERSATION WITH HIM AS FOLLOWS, THANKS TO YOUR COR YOUR CORRESPONDENCE AND YOUR PRESENTATION TO THE AIRPORT'S BOARD REGARDING THE COMPANY'S INTEREST IN DEVELOPMENT AT THE HILTON HEAD AIRPORT.
AS I MENTIONED, WHEN WE FIRST MET, ALL THE AIRPORT RECOGNIZES THERE IS A POTENTIAL DEVELOPMENT IN THE AREA IN THE A R F AND THE A CTC THE AIRPORT MUST, MUST TAKE AND HAS TAKEN A POSITION.
THE DEVELOPMENT OF THAT SPECIFIC AREA WILL BE PART OF A MORE INVOLVED PLANNING EFFORT.
THE EFFORT HASN'T TAKEN PLACE YET, BUT IS ON THE AIRPORT'S RADAR.
ONCE IT'S UNDERWAY, ALL OF THE MANY PROPOSALS FOR THAT PORTION OF THE AIRPORT WILL BE GIVEN FAIR CONSIDERATION.
UNTIL THAT TIME, THE AIRPORT WILL BE FOCUSED ON THE MANY OTHER PRIORITIES THAT HAVE BEEN REVIEWED AND APPROVED BY COUNTY ADMINISTRATION.
THANK YOU AGAIN FOR YOUR COMMUNICATIONS.
I FELT NECESSARY TO LET YOU KNOW THAT THE AIRPORT IS NOT IN A POSITION TO DISCUSS SPECIFIC DEVELOPMENT PLANS YET TO GIVE YOU A DIFFERENT IMPRESSION, COULD LEAD YOU TO SPEND VALUABLE ON BEFORE ITS JOHNS.
SO PROPOSALS NOW THE BURN UNTIL SUCH TIME, UM, THINGS, IT'S MORE APPROPRIATE TO DEAL WITH IT.
ANY OTHER UNFINISHED BUSINESS.
SO ON THE AGENDA WE HAVE THREE ACTION ITEMS THAT WE ARE REQUESTING YOUR VOTE ON FOR APPROVAL.
[10. HILTON HEAD ISLAND AIRPORT (HXD) - APPROVAL OF TALBERT, BRIGHT AND ELLINGTON WORK AUTHORIZATION 2119-1905, TERMINAL IMPROVEMENTS PROJECT - AMENDMENT 1 (VOTE)]
I'LL START WITH THE FIRST ONE.THAT'S THE HILTON HEAD ISLAND AIRPORT.
APPROVAL OF T BRIGHTON ELLINGTON.
AS YOU KNOW, THERE ARE CONSULTANTS, OUR AIRPORT CONSULTANTS, AND THIS ISN'T CONCERNING THE TERMINAL PROJECT, AS YOU GUYS KNOW AND LADIES, UH, AND WE'RE BRIEF BEFORE WE PUT OUT BIDS TO BUILD THE TERMINAL IN ITS ENTIRE, UM, THE BIDS THAT WE DID RECEIVE CAME BACK AND LIKE THEY WERE IN THE RANGE OF 40% HIGHER THAN WHAT THE ENGINEERS EXPECTED THAT TO BE DUE TO INFLATION.
UM, SO THROUGH COMMUNICATIONS IT WAS DECIDED THAT LET'S
[00:25:01]
PULL THAT STUFF BACK AND REENTER INTO A PHASED APPROACH.CURRENTLY THE AIRPORT AND THE COUNTY HAVE ENOUGH FUNDS TO BE ABLE TO DO WHAT WE'RE CALLING A FIRST PHASE, UM, BUILDING THE FIRST PHASE OF THE TERMINAL ALONG WITH THE PARKING AREAS.
AND WE'RE GONNA BID JUST THAT PHASE OUT WHILE THAT'S BEING BUILT AND WORKED ON.
THEN JOHN CAN GO OUT AND FIND THE FUNDS FOR THE SECOND PHASE, WHICH WILL COMPLETE THE TERMINAL PROJECT.
IT DOESN'T LOOK TO BE SETTING US BACK NO MORE THAN 30, 45 DAYS AT THIS POINT IN TIME.
BUT THE CONSULTANTS AND ENGINEERS HAD TO GO BACK AND REDO PLANS TO REDO ALL THEIR EVALUATIONS TO GET US SET UP WITH THE BID DOCUMENTS TO PUT THIS OUT TO, TO BID AGAIN FOR JUST THE FIRST DAYS.
SO THAT WORK AND THAT WORK AUTHORIZATION IS WHAT WE'RE ASKING TO PROVE.
DO YOU HAVE A TARGET DATE FOR WHEN THIS NEXT ROUND OF BID SHOULD BE RECEIVED BY THE COUNTY? BY, I'M NOT GONNA GIVE YOU A DATE, UM, MR. CHAIRMAN.
UM, BUT MY PERSONAL EXPECTATIONS JANUARY, FEBRUARY TIME QUESTION, CAN YOU GIVE US A GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF WHAT YOU WOULD CONSIDER TO BE PHASE ONE? YES SIR.
SO IF YOU REMEMBER THE MAIN TERMINAL, TERMINAL AS IT SITS RIGHT NOW, THE BONES OF THAT TERMINAL ARE TO BE RENOVATED WITH AN ADDITION TO THAT TERMINAL BEING CONSTRUCTION CONSTRUCTED.
THE NEW APRON THAT WE HAD PUT IN THIS PAST YEAR AND PARTS OF LAST YEAR, UM, IS AT THE FRONT OF THAT IS GONNA BE WHERE THE NEW CONSTRUCTION IS BUILT.
SO THE FIRST PHASE IS GONNA BUILD THAT NEW CONSTRUCTION WITH THE, THE, UH, RAMPS, NOT THE OUTDOOR RAMPS, BUT THE, UH, RAMPS THAT CONNECT TO THE AIRPLANE TO GET INTO THE TERMINAL.
UH, THAT WHOLE NEW SECTION IS GONNA BE BUILT.
THE SEC SECOND PHASE LATER ON IS GONNA BE THE RENOVATION AND EXPANSION OF THE MAIN TERMINAL.
SO PHASE ONE WOULD INCLUDE THE NEW GATES.
DOES IT ALSO INCLUDE THE TSA AREA? WELL IT DOES CAUSE THAT'S IN THE, THE MAIN SECTION, THE PORTION YOU SHOULD HAVE ALL RECEIVED, UH, SPOT OF THIS MONTH'S PACKAGE HERE THAT DETAILED THE ACCOUNT OF THE CONTRACT THAT WE'RE ABOUT TO ASK THE PROMOTION FOR.
SO I'M ASSUMING EVERYBODY HAS READ THAT AND YOU KNOW, LAST TIME AROUND THERE RAN QUESTIONS THAT WE HAVE FOR STEVE REGARDING THAT CONTRACT.
IF NOT, WE'LL ACCEPT A MOTION, UH, TO APPROVE THE ELLINGTON WORK.
ONE THE ADDITIONAL WORK NECESSARY FOR HILTON THAT OUT.
UH, ANY FURTHER DISCUSSION? BRIAN? IS THAT A SECOND? BRIAN? IS THAT A THIRD? WE'LL GET ALL IN FAVOR.
PLEASE SIGN BY SAYING I OR RAISING.
ANY OPPOSED? HEARING NONE, THAT MOTION PASSES.
[11. 36 HUNTER ROAD - RESOLUTION TO APPROVE A LEASE AGREEMENT BETWEEN BEAUFORT COUNTY AND THE AVIS BUDGET GROUP (VOTE)]
YOU.THE SECOND ITEM ON THE ACTION ITEMS LIST.
UH, AS YOU'LL KNOW, WE UH, RECENTLY ACQUIRED 3,600 ROAD THAT WAS PART OF THE PROPERTY ACQUISITION.
UM, ON THAT PIECE OF PROPERTY WAS IN THE BACKUP SLIDES ON THAT PIECE OF PROPERTY.
UM, AVIS RENTAL CAR, THE AVIS BUDGET GROUP, THEY OPERATE AN AREA THAT CLEANS THEIR RENTAL CARS.
SO KIND OF A MINI CAR WASH STATION AND THEY HAD AN EXISTING LEASE WITH THE, THE PREVIOUS PROPERTY OWNER.
WE ARE JUST CONTINUING THAT LEASE IN ITS ENTIRETY, UM, PUTTING IT IN THE COUNTY'S NAME.
SO WE NEED APPROVAL FOR THAT LEASE TO CONTINUE.
THAT PIECE OF PROPERTY IS NOT SCHEDULED TO BE, UM, UH, CLEARED OR DEMOED, UH, IN THE NEAR FUTURE.
SO WE'RE ABLE TO KEEP THAT LEASE GOING FOR, UH, A NUMBER OF YEARS UNTIL THE TERMINALS HAVE A QUESTION ON.
SO I, I SAW IN THERE IT SAID, UH, ESTIMATED OR DIDN'T SAY ESTIMATE JUST SAID 60,000 ANNUAL REVENUE TRINA.
IS THAT I'M EXPECTING THAT'S THE ACTUAL SINCE THEY'VE ALREADY BEEN THAT'S RIGHT.
THE QUESTION WE TALKING ABOUT POTENTIAL MULTIPLE YEARS HERE, I SCANNED THROUGH THERE.
I'M NOT SURE I SAW AN ESCALATOR CLAUSE IN THERE WITH IT COULD BE RAISED, UH, IN MORE YEARS GOING DOWNSTREAM, THE 60,000 I CAN GET BACK WITH YOU ON THAT AND I DON'T THINK THERE'S THAT FALLS IN WE'RE MIMICKING, UM, THE LEASE THAT THEY CURRENTLY HAVE.
UM, I'M NOT SURE IF THERE'S A CONTINGENT THAT THEY CAN KEEP GOING.
OBVIOUSLY WHEN WE NEED TO CLEAR THAT PROPERTY FOR THE TERMINAL THAT LEASE ENDS, UH, UM,
[00:30:01]
THE COUNTY LEGAL, THIS HAS BEEN EMBEDDED DUE THE COUNTY LEGAL SYSTEM.SO THEY SEEM AND DEEMED IT APPROPRIATELY.
UH, STEVE, WE DIDN'T SEE THE ORIGINAL LEASE, BUT THE COUNTY DOES HAVE AN OUT.
SHOULD THAT LAND BECOME NECESSARY, HAVE OUT YES.
ANY QUESTIONS REGARDING THE EXTENSION OF THE
WE'LL ACCEPT A MOTION TO APPROVE THE BETWEEN COUNTY AND THE AVIS BUDGET GROUP.
AND BRIAN WANNA MAKE A MOTION AND BRIAN, WE'LL GO TO THE TAPE.
AND LESLIE RIGHT FAVOR SIGNIFY BY SAYING I RAISING.
[12. HILTON HEAD ISLAND AIRPORT (HXD) AND BEAUFORT EXECUTIVE AIRPORT (ARW) – AIRPORTS CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM (ACIP) LIST (VOTE)]
STEVE.UH, SO FOR THE THIRD ACTION ITEM AND FINAL ACTION ITEM WE'RE ASKING FOR A VOTE FOR TODAY IS THE HILTON HEAD EYE ON AIRPORT AND BEFORD EXECUTIVE AIRPORT, UH, CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM, THE C I P LIST.
SO WE MET A COUPLE WEEKS AGO AND EACH YEAR WE DO THIS TO GO THROUGH THE PROJECTS AND WE DETERMINE WHERE WOULD BE FEASIBLE FOR THESE PROJECTS TO BE ACCOMPLISHED.
IN THE BACKUP SLIDES THAT YOU GUYS HAVE RECEIVED.
UM, THEY'RE PRETTY IN DEPTH, BUT I'LL SHOW YOU THESE TWO ARE VERY GOOD EXAMPLES OF, UH, GETTING AN IDEA OF WHAT'S DONE, WHAT WE'RE PLANNING FOR IN THE YEARS THAT WE'RE PLANNING OUT.
SO WITH THIS, THE CHANGES, WE MADE SOME MINOR ADJUSTMENTS AND CHANGES.
AND WITH THE APPROVAL TODAY DOESN'T MEAN THERE CAN'T BE SOME MINOR CHANGES THAT MIGHT NEED TO BE MADE.
UH, BUT THIS IS PRETTY MUCH THE CIP LIST.
IT'S GONNA GO FORWARD FOR THIS YEAR.
UH, SO WE'D LIKE Y'ALL'S APPROVAL ON THAT.
YOU GET PAPERWORK WASS IMPOSED.
ANY FURTHER DISCUSSION OR QUESTIONS ON THAT? YEAH, JUST ONE QUESTION FOR YOU, STEVE.
UH, THE HANGER, WHY IS THAT CONSIDERED A CAPITAL GROUP PROJECT? THAT'S A PRIVATE LAND LEASE.
AND ARE FAA FUNDS THAT WE'RE SEEKING OR OTHER PUBLIC THE PRIVATE FOR THE C P LIST? YES.
ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? IF NOT, WE'LL ACCEPT THE MOTION TO APPROVE THE AIRPORT CAPITAL PROGRAM.
BET EXECUTIVE AND THE HEAD ISLAND AIRPORT.
I JUST
[14. CITIZEN COMMENT]
NO CITIZENS.AND PAUL, YOU'D LIKE TO HAVE A CHANCE TO SAY SOMETHING? I I DO HAVE A QUESTION ABOUT THE C.
UM, I WASN'T INVOLVED IN THE C LIST THIS YEAR, LIKE I WAS YEAR, BUT I HAVE A QUESTION THAT SIX MONTHS AGO IT WAS IMPORTANT FOR US TO GET THE RUNWAY STATE HEARING AND NOW ON THE CIP PS HAS BEEN PUSHED BACK ANOTHER FEW YEARS AND I WAS JUST CURIOUS WHY THAT IS DONE IF IT'S SUCH A IMPORTANT PROJECT AND HAS EVEN NOTIFIED THAT THAT'S WHAT WE'RE DOING.
I THINK THAT'S A QUESTION YOU HAVE TO ADDRESS TO STEVE OR TO JOHN.
I'M DEFINITELY GONNA DEFER THAT TO JOHN AFTER QUESTION.
UH, PAUL, WHEN WE SAT DOWN AND DISCUSSED THE C I P LIST, THE RUNWAY RENOVATION WAS NUMBER ONE PRIORITY.
SO THE ABILITY TO GET THAT DONE IN 23, UH, IS AVAILABLE.
WE ARE OPEN FOR LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATIONS AND LETTERS ON WHY THE AIRPORT SHOULD NOT CREATE AN AVENUE FOR THAT RUNWAY TO BE SHORTENED.
SO WE'RE STILL LOOKING FOR LETTERS FROM PEOPLE TO, TO GIVE TO US SO THAT WE CAN GIVE THE FAA HERE'S THE REASONS WHY THIS IS IMPORTANT.
AND IF I REMEMBER TOO, WHEN WE HAD THAT DISCUSSION ON THE, WE WERE TALKING ABOUT THAT ISSUE, I THINK IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY, YOU KNOW, YOU WERE THERE AS WELL AND MEAN PAUL WAS, IT IS THAT THE FAA WANTED THAT THE RUNWAY WAS IN SUCH, YOU KNOW, IT'S GONNA BE IN SUCH BAD SHAPE THAT THAT HAD TO BE DONE, THAT HAD TO BE DONE FIRST.
AND BY THE FACT THAT THEY ALLOWED US TO DO THAT AND PUT IT THERE, YES.
THEY WERE BASICALLY SAYING, HEY, WE'RE GONNA ALLOW IT TO STAY OPEN AND WE'RE NOT GONNA SHORTEN THOSE RUNWAYS.
IF WE'RE GONNA DO, WE'RE GONNA SPEND THIS MONEY THAT IS EXACTLY RIGHT.
WELL, THE MONEY IS THERE AND IN ORDER TO SPEND THE MONEY, UM, THAT RUNWAY, THE, THE, THE STATUS OF THAT RUNWAY, WE WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT WE COULD, THEY WEREN'T GONNA TAKE THE MONEY AWAY AND WE TO GET THAT PROJECT DONE.
[00:35:01]
HAVE TO GET BACK WITH THAT.IS THERE ANYTHING THAT THE BOARD CAN DO TO FACILITATE THE PROCESS? UM, PROBABLY I'D ASK FOR THE BOARD TO REACH OUT TO PEOPLE THAT USE THAT AIRPORT AND WRITE LETTER OFFICIAL LETTERS OF, UM, RECOMMENDATIONS, LETTERS OF WHY IF THEY GET THEY WOULDN'T USE THE YEAH.
IF THEY GET SHORTENED, THEY'RE NOT GONNA USE OR THEY CAN'T USE OR THEY WON'T BE ALLOWED TO USE THAT LEVEL TO FACILITATE THAT PROCESS.
IS IT POSSIBLE THAT, UH, THE DIRECTOR'S OFFICE CAN GET THEW COMMITTEE A LIST OF THE TENANTS CURRENTLY AT IMPORTANT? ABSOLUTELY.
IT'S MORE ABOUT, I THINK IT'S MORE ABOUT, UM, WITH OUR COMPANY THERE, WE'RE GONNA BE WRITING A LETTER, MATTER OF FACT I SHOULD WROTE DOWN, BUT OPERATORS WHEELS UP NET, ANYBODY COMES IN AND OUTTA THAT THING.
SHORT, SHORT, ALL OF A SUDDEN YOUR PART 1 35 OPERATIONS PRIVATE CHARTER WE'RE LIMITED ON WHAT? ON, ON, YOU KNOW, THE TYPE OF PLANE THAT COME IN THERE AND TAKE OFF.
UH, WHICH WE ARE ALREADY LIMITED, OBVIOUSLY BASED ON OUR SIZE, WE ALL KNEW THAT, BUT NOW IT'S GONNA REALLY, REALLY LIMIT.
SO PLANES THAT COULD HAVE LANDED BEFORE MAY NOT BE ABLE TO LAND OR IN OR TAKE OFF.
I THINK THIS MAY BE A CASE GET ALL THE, EVEN THOUGH IT'S NOT DIRECTLY IMPACTED BY THE THREAT OF A SHORT RUN WAVE WOULD HELP.
SO IF, IF YO CAN HANDLE THAT, IF STEVE OR CAN GET AND LET KNOW WHAT THE ISSUE IS AND WHAT THEY CAN DO TO HELP THE ISSUE.
THE OTHER QUESTION IS REACH OUT TO THE TRANSIENTS, LIKE HOW YOU DOING NOW CHRIS IS TALKING ABOUT I HAVE REACHED OUT TO A FEW IN THE HOSPITALITY SECTOR A OF LOCAL BUSINESSES I KNOW HAVE CUSTOMERS ARRIVED FROM MY PLANE.
SO SOME OF THOSE CONVERSATIONS ARE HAPPENING.
I COULD USE SUGGESTIONS OF ADDITIONAL FOLKS THAT ARE PLUGGED INTO THE AVIATION COMMUNITY.
HOWARD, THE OTHER BIG THING IT'LL DO WILL MAKE THE REPORT LESS, LESS THAN 3,200 FEET AND WE'LL LOSE OUR INSTRUMENT APPROACHES.
UH, SO IF THAT CAN BE ASSEMBLED INTO A MESSAGE THAT WE CAN GET TO THE TENANTS ANDS THAT WE HAVE ACCESS TO, UH, I THINK ANY, THE SUPPORT THAT WOULD BE HELPFUL.
CAN I SAY ONE MORE THING ON A PERSONALLY? YEAH.
UM, UH, I DON'T KNOW GUESS EVERYBODY KNOWS MY STORY IS, UH, THE AIRPLANE THAT I'M IN PARTNERSHIP WITH, THE GUY I BUY WITH YOU ALSO RUNS A CHARTER BUSINESS.
SO HE AFFORDED ME THE OPPORTUNITY TO COME FLY WITH HIM, WHICH IS KIND OF A LIFELONG HURRY.
SO, UH, THAT'S, THAT'S THE DIRECTION I'VE DECIDED TO GO.
CAUSE YOU DON'T GET HANDED THAT OPPORTUNITY VERY MANY TIMES.
UM, I PERSONALLY WANT TO THANK JOHN REBOLT AND STEVE AND EVERYBODY THAT I'VE WORKED WITH IN THE AIRPORT BUSINESS HERE FOR ALLOWING ME TO COME IN FROM OUT OF STATE AND WORK AT THE AIRPORT AND ALLOW ME TO MAKE DECISIONS TO MAKE THE AIRPORT A BETTER PLACE.
AND WITHOUT THAT OPPORTUNITY, I WOULDN'T HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY THAT I'M STEPPING INTO NOW.
SO EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU, AND I WANNA SAY THANK YOU FOR THAT AND ACCOUNTING AND EVERYBODY THAT I'VE WORKED WITH WITH THE SCHOOL SYSTEM.
SO IT'S BEEN A VERY REWARDING, UH, GREAT EXPERIENCE.
IT'S A VERY DIFFICULT DECISION TO MAKE, BUT IN THE LONG GROUND IT'S, IT'S CHASING THE DREAMS. THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH.
WELL, WE HAVE ONE MORE MEETING IN DECEMBER STILL HERE.
SO WE EXPECT TO SEE, YOU STILL EXPECT TO THANK YOU ALL.
ANY COMMITTEE REPORTS? I'M
AND THE CITIZEN'S COMMENT WE'VE GONE THROUGH.
CAN I MAKE A COMMENT PLEASE? UNDERST.
YEAH, DIDN'T SEE YOU UP THERE.
WELL I'M, I'M HIDING BEHIND THE CAMERA.
UM, I AM INTERESTED IN THIS BUSINESS ABOUT THE POTENTIAL SHORTENING OF THE RUNWAY, UH, WHICH I THINK WOULD BE HARMFUL TO THE TOURISM BUSINESS AND HARMFUL TO, UH, BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT HERE ON THE ISLAND.
UM, IF YOU WOULD LIKE, I WILL SEE IF I CAN GET A LETTER FROM THE TOWN IN THAT REGARD AND I WOULD ALSO BE WILLING TO APPROACH THE BEAUFORT ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION IN THAT REGARD TO SEE IF THEY COULD PUT SOMETHING IN THE RECORD FOR YOU.
GLENN, YOU KNOW, THIS IS, THIS IS ATFOR EXECUTIVE NOT HILTON.
I'M GLAD STILL YOUR HELP ABSOLUTELY CAN'T HURT AND THE ECONOMIC YEAH, I CAN SEE HOW THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION WOULD ALSO HAVE AN INTEREST IN W AS WELL.
I REMIND YOU THAT NEXT MONTH'S MEETING, IS THAT CORRECT? WE'RE BACK HERE NEXT
[00:40:01]
MONTH.WE'LL HAVE A DISCUSSION ABOUT THAT DURING THE MONTH.
BUT AT THE MOMENT, THE NEXT MONTH'S MEETING, DECEMBER 15TH, 1:30 PM RIGHT BACK HERE.

THIS IS NATALIE HEFNER FROM THE COASTAL DISCOVERY MUSEUM AND THIS IS YOUR BEAUFORT COUNTY MOMENT.
ALMOST 40% OF BEAUFORT COUNTY IS ACTUALLY MADE UP OF WATERWAYS.
MUCH OF THAT IS OUR SALT MARSH.
AND WHILE SOMETIMES OUR VISITORS OR NEWCOMERS THINK THAT THE SMELL OF THE SALT MARSH IS NOT VERY APPEALING, THOSE OF US WHO CALL BEAUFORT COUNTY HOME DO THINK THAT THAT SMELL BRINGS US HOME.
THE SMELL OF THE BLUFF MUD AND ALL OF THE GREAT ECOSYSTEM THAT'S GOING ON THERE IS VERY, VERY IMPORTANT.
IT'S ACTUALLY A NURSERY FOR MOST OF OUR SHRIMP AND CRABS AND A LOT OF THE FISH THAT YOU GO OUT TO CATCH IN THE OCEAN.
THE BARINA GRASS OR SALT MARSH CORD GRASS IS ACTUALLY MORE IMPORTANT IN SOME WAYS DEAD THAN ALIVE.
IT WASHES UP IN RACK ON OUR BEACHES AND HELPS TO FORM OUR DUNES.
SO AS YOU'RE EXPLORING THE SALT MARSH, BE SURE TO LOOK FOR THE WAITING BIRDS AND OTHER CRITTERS THAT MAKE IT ITS HOME.
AND ENJOY THE PUFF MUD AND THE SMELLS OF THE SALT MARSH.
THIS IS NATALIE HETER FROM THE COASTAL DISCOVERY MUSEUM.
AND THIS HAS BEEN YOUR BEAUFORT COUNTY MOMENT.
DO YOU REMEMBER WHAT TO SEE MORE BEAUFORT COUNTY MOMENTS, GO TO THE BEAUFORT COUNTY LIBRARY HOMEPAGE AND CLICK ON THE LOCAL HISTORY TAB.
HELLO SCHOOL CONNECTING TO A CLASSROOM IN GERMANY.
STUDENTS AT HE MCCRACKEN AND HILTON AND ISLAND MIDDLE SCHOOLS.
ZOOMED WITH A VOCATIONAL SCHOOL IN GERMANY FOR THE FIRST EVER INTERNATIONAL STUDENT CAREER SYMPOSIUM.
SO WHAT WE ARE DOING HERE IS A VOCATIONAL SCHOOL.
WE DO A CAREER SCHOOL WHERE YOU CAN LEARN HERE.
OUR STUDENTS HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO TALK WITH GERMAN STUDENTS ABOUT HOW THEY CAN COMBINE BEING IN SCHOOL WITH TRAINING FOR A CAREER.
WE ARE ALL IN THE SAME CLASS, SO WE ARE ALL GETTING OUR CERTIFICATE AND CAR SALES CARS AND SERVICING COSTS.
SO I, I JUST KIND OF WANTED THEM TO UNDERSTAND THE DAILY LIFE THAT THE KIDS ARE GOING ON, UH, THAT THEY, THEY HAVE GOING ON OVER THERE.
I ALSO WANNA KNOW THE CERTIFICATIONS, THE DIFFERENT SCHOOLING THAT THEY HAVE TO DO AND HOW THEY CAN BECOME SUCCESSFUL IN THAT CAREER.
SEVERAL GERMAN STUDENTS DISCUSS THEIR APPRENTICESHIPS IN THE AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY.
WE TAKE TAKE CALLS AND UH, GIVE THEM ADVICE ON WHAT KIND OF PARTS THEY NEED AND ANSWER LOTS OF QUESTIONS ABOUT THEIR SCHOOL AND WORK SCHEDULES.
I FOUND INTERESTING THAT THEY KIND OF VARY WITH THEIR SCHOOLS AS WELL BECAUSE THEY GET OUT AT CERTAIN TIMES.
IT KIND OF DEPENDS ON THE PERSON AND THEY CAN WORK FROM AGES 16 AND UP, UH, DEPENDING ON THEIR EXPERIENCE.
I LEARNED THAT LIKE THEY WORK WHILE THEY DO SCHOOL, YOU KNOW, AND LIKE THE SCHEDULE IS KIND OF DIFFERENT AND I THINK IT'S LIKE A REALLY GOOD SCHEDULE CUZ YOU KNOW, THEY STILL DO SCHOOL AND THEY STILL WORK.
THE GERMAN STUDENTS ALSO ASKED OUR KIDS SEVERAL QUESTIONS ABOUT EVERYDAY SCHOOL LIFE IN AMERICA IN CAREER OPPORTUNITIES.
IT'S JUST ABOUT EXPOSING THESE KIDS TO THE DIFFERENT OPPORTUNITIES AND DIFFERENT CAREERS AND GET 'EM HERE IN THE MIDDLE GRADES SO THEY'RE READY TO WALK IN THE DOOR IN THE NINTH GRADE WITH AN IDEA OF, HEY, THIS IS SOMETHING I REALLY WANNA DO.
THIS IS SOMETHING I WANNA PURSUE.
AND JUST SO THAT THEY HAVE A BROADER IDEA OF WHAT THEY COULD DO.
THE SCHOOLS ARE PLANNING TO EXPAND THE INTERNATIONAL STUDENT CAREER SYMPOSIUM NEXT SEMESTER BY INCLUDING VOCATIONAL CENTERS IN ITALY, FRANCE, AND SPAIN AT MCCRACKEN MIDDLE SCHOOL.

HI, MY NAME'S VICTORIA HOFFMAN AND I'M THE RECYCLING COORDINATOR FOR BEAUFORT COUNTY.
TODAY I'M GOING TO PROVIDE A QUICK COMPOSTING 1 0 1 TUTORIAL.
COMPOSTING IS A GREAT WAY TO DIVERT FOOD AND YARD WASTE FROM LANDFILLS AND IT'S WONDERFUL FOR YOUR PLANTS.
A FEW REASONS WHY WE LIKE TO PROMOTE COMPOSTING ARE THE EPA REPORTED MORE THAN 63 MILLION TONS OF FOOD WASTE SENT TO LANDFILLS IN 2018 IN SOUTH CAROLINA.
ABOUT 30% OF WASTE TAKEN TO LANDFILLS IS YARD WASTE.
COMPOSTING REDUCES MATERIAL SENT TO LANDFILLS AND REDUCES METHANE RELEASED INTO THE ATMOSPHERE.
SO YOU MAY BE WONDERING WHAT IS COMPOSTING? COMPOSTING IS THE BREAKDOWN OF PLANT MATERIAL THROUGH DECOMPOSITION.
THIS HAPPENS IN NATURE, BUT AT A SLOWER PROCESS.
ONCE THE MATERIAL BREAKS DOWN, YOU ARE LEFT WITH A NUTRIENT RICH DIRT LIKE MATERIAL THAT YOU CAN APPLY TO PLANTS YOUR GARDEN OR YOUR LAWN.
COMPOST HELPS RETAIN MOISTURE AND SOIL AND REDUCES THE AMOUNT OF CHEMICAL FERTILIZERS USED IN GARDENS.
IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN COMPOSTING, BEAUFORT COUNTY HAS EARTH MACHINE COMPOST BINS FOR SALE FOR A GREAT PRICE OF $50.
YOU CAN FIND MORE INFORMATION ON PURCHASING ONE ON OUR WEBSITE.
THE BINS ARE ALMOST AT A 50% DISCOUNT OF THE NORMAL PRICE.
IT IS EASY TO ASSEMBLE AND DISCREET.
AS YOU CAN SEE, THE BINS COME IN THREE PARTS.
SO TAKING THEM HOME IN YOUR CAR IS SIMPLE.
THE BIN COMES WITH FOUR SCREW PEGS TO SECURE IT TO THE GROUND.
A HARVEST STORE THAT CAN SLIDE UP AND HAS THE CAPABILITY OF BEING LOCKED.
ALSO, YOU HAVE A BASE, A TOP, AND A LID.
THE COMPOST BINS COME WITH A HANDBOOK THAT INCLUDES EASY ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS.
CHOOSING THE LOCATION OF YOUR BIN IS IMPORTANT.
YOU WANT IT TO BE CLOSE TO YOUR HOUSE IN A SHADED AREA AND YOU NEED A WATER SOURCE AVAILABLE.
YOU DON'T WANT IT TOO FAR FROM YOUR HOME BECAUSE YOU WANT THIS TO BE EASILY ACCESSIBLE.
YOU NEED A WATER SOURCE SUCH AS A WATER HOSE TO BE ABLE TO KEEP IT MOIST.
A COUPLE OF THINGS YOU WILL NEED TO START YOUR COMPOST BIN ARE SOME GREENS, WHICH IS YOUR NITROGEN SOURCES.
THIS INCLUDES GREEN GRASS AND LEAVES AND GARDEN CLIPPINGS AND YOUR BROWNS.
YOU NEED YOUR BROWNS, WHICH ARE THE CARBONS.
EXAMPLES OF THESE ARE DRIED LEAVES, TWIGS, AND WOOD CHIPS.
SOME OTHER EXAMPLES OF YOUR NITROGEN AND CARBON SOURCES ARE LISTED ON THE SCREEN.
WHEN JUST STARTING YOUR COMPOST BIN, IT IS IDEAL TO LAYER YOUR GREEN AND BROWN MATERIAL IN AN ALTERNATING PATTERN.
BE SURE TO ADD WATER TO KEEP YOUR BIN MOIST, LIKE A WRONG OUT SPONGE.
NOW THAT YOUR COMPOST BIN IS SET UP, YOU'RE ALL SET TO BEGIN DIVERTING YOUR FOOD WASTE.
WHEN YOU ARE IN THE KITCHEN PREPARING YOUR MEALS, INSTEAD OF TOSSING THOSE FOOD SCRAPS IN THE TRASH, YOU CAN SET THEM ASIDE TO DISPOSE OF IN YOUR COMPOST BIN.
THINGS LIKE PEELS FROM VEGETABLES AND FRUITS, EGG SHELLS AND COFFEE GROUNDS CAN ALL BE PUT INTO YOUR BIN.
I LIKE TO KEEP A CONTAINER ON MY COUNTER FOR ANY SCRAPS THAT ARE COMPOSTABLE.
A SMALL BIN WITH A LID IS IDEAL TO DETER ANY PEST OR SMELLS.
YOU CAN ALSO STORE YOUR SCRAPS IN THE FRIDGE OR FREEZER UNTIL YOU'RE READY TO TAKE THEM OUT TO YOUR COMPOST BIN.
YOU WANNA BE SURE TO KEEP THESE ITEMS OUT, BONES, MEAT, AND TOXIC PLANTS.
HERE'S A LIST OF OTHER ITEMS YOU WANNA KEEP OUT OF YOUR BIN.
MAKE SURE YOU TURN YOUR BIN OFTEN.
I LIKE TO USE A PITCH FORK AND WORK MY WAY AROUND THE BIN THROUGH THE TOP.
YOU CAN ALSO USE A SHOVEL OR OTHER GARDEN TOOLS.
A PROPERLY MANAGED COMPOST BIN SHOULDN'T ATTRACT PEST OR RODENTS, NOR SHOULD IT SMELL BAD.
IF YOU'RE UNABLE TO COMPOST OUTSIDE, YOU MAY WANT TO EXPLOIT BUREY COMPOSTING.
BUREY COMPOSTING IS WHEN YOU USE WORMS TO FACILITATE THE COMPOSTING PROCESS.
IT CAN BE DONE WITH A SMALL BIN AND KEPT INSIDE.
IF YOU'RE INTERESTED IN COMPOSTING, PLEASE GO TO THE COUNTY WEBSITE TO ORDER YOUR BIN.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR WATCHING AND HELPING US TO DIVERT OUR ORGANIC WASTE.
AND REMEMBER, GO GREEN, KEEP IT CLEAN.

I'M A PROJECT MANAGER WITH THE SOUTH CAROLINA FILM COMMISSION.
WELL, THERE'S A LITTLE SHOW, UH, CALLED THE RIGHTEOUS GEMSTONES.
IT'S AN HBO SHOW AND THEY'RE DOING SOME FILMING OUT ON HUNTING ISLAND.
DO Y'ALL WANNA SEE A SNAKE PEAK? WE
[00:55:01]
GOTTA GO TO A COMMERCIAL.OH, I DON'T THINK WE GONNA TAKE A BREAK YET.
CAUSE GUESS WHAT? I WORE MY CLOGGING SHOES.
SO THIS PARTICULAR SERIES, IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN IT, IT'S ABOUT AN EVANGELICAL TELEVISION FAMILY.
DAN ROGERS, SENIOR PROJECT MANAGER WITH THE SOUTH CAROLINA FILM COMMISSION.
IT'S, IT'S DONE WITH WITH GOOD HUMOR.
YOU KNOW, JUST, YOU HAVE TO UNDERSTAND, YOU KNOW, EVERYBODY'S HUMOR'S A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT.
AND DANNY MCBRIDE HAS, HE'S, HE'S THE CREATOR OF THE SHOW.
HE, HE PLAYS THE SON OF THE, THE MAIN PASTOR WHO IS PLAYED BY JOHN GOODMAN, THE GEMSTONE.
YOUR WHOLE MINISTRY IS SET UP TO SERVE THE GEMSTONES.
YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED YOURSELF.
THEY WANTED, UH, NOT NECESSARILY THE LIGHTHOUSE, BUT THEY WANTED TO REALLY, UM, UH, SECLUDED BEACH AREA.
AND THAT'S, THAT'S WHAT THEY'RE ABLE TO GET DOWN THERE.
UM, THEY'VE GOT, I DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW MANY TENTS.
THEY'VE GOT MASSIVE TENTS DOWN THERE.
UM, THEY HAVE A HUNDRED EXTRAS.
THEY'VE PROBABLY GOT 150 CREW.
THEY'VE GOT ALL THE EQUIPMENT THAT YOU WOULD NEED FOR, UH, SHOOTING THE SHOW.
WELL, ONE OF THE, THE REASONS OUR OFFICE EXISTS IS TO TRY TO PROVIDE OPPORTUNITIES FOR BOTH CREW CAST AND SUPPLIERS IN THE STATE.
AND THIS PARTICULAR, UH, SHOW, AS WE CALL IT, A SHOW HAS HIRED HUNDREDS OF NOT IF NOT THOUSANDS OF EXTRAS CREW AND SUPPLIERS IN THE STATE.
THEY, IT'S SUCH A BIG SHOW THAT THEY, THEY HAVE REACHED OUT TO ALL PARTS OF THE STATE.
THEY'VE SHOT IN MYRTLE BEACH, THEY'VE SHOT IN THE UPSTATE, OF COURSE, THEY'RE BASED IN CHARLESTON.
AND NOW THEY'RE SHOOTING IN BEAUFORD BECAUSE THEY WANT TO, THEY WANT TO BE A GOOD CITIZEN OF THE STATE AND TRY TO SHOW HOW THIS STATE, WITH ALL ITS UNIQUE LOCATIONS CAN, CAN OFFER A SERIES LIKE THIS.
AND THAT'S WHAT WE LOVE ABOUT IT BECAUSE THEY DO THEN DRAW ON ALL THE RESOURCES WITHIN THE STATE TO MAKE THAT HAPPEN.
I GREW UP IN A HARD WORKING MIDDLE CLASS FAMILY.
WE WEREN'T RICH, BUT WE ALSO WEREN'T POOR.
AND WE ALSO DON'T REALLY CARE.
THAT'S KIND OF A BORING, LAME OR STORY
I THINK IT'S REALLY WELL DIALED IN BEING FROM THE INDUSTRY.
UM, I KNOW IT CAN BE REALLY, UM, IT CAN GROUPS CAN REALLY OVERTAKE AN AREA AND, AND THERE'S A LOT OF ENTITLEMENT THAT SOMETIMES COMES.
AND THESE GUYS HAVEN'T, HAVEN'T SHOWN THAT.
I THINK THAT THEY'RE, THEY'VE BEEN REALLY RESPECTFUL WITH THE PARK AND I THINK PARK IS RECIPROCATING THAT.
SO WORKING WITH THEM, UM, HAS, HAS BEEN A REALLY BENEFICIAL THING BOTH FOR THE PARK AND FOR THE COMPANY.
AND I THINK, UH, I THINK IT'S GREAT TO KIND OF FOSTER THAT, THAT COMMUNICATION AND THAT, UM, THAT UH, KIND OF, UH, UH, COOPERATION BETWEEN THE TWO ENTITIES, YOU KNOW, MAKES EVERYBODY HAPPY.
WELL, I JUST WANT TO THANK THE PARKS AGAIN FOR STEPPING UP TO THE PLATE AND MAKING IT HAPPEN.
YOU KNOW, OUR STATE PARKS HAVE, HAVE A WONDERFUL, UM, MECHANISM IN PLACE TO NOT ONLY ALLOW THE CITIZENS TO STILL VISIT AND THEY MADE THAT HAPPEN BECAUSE THEY UNDERSTAND THAT AS A STATE AGENCY, JUST LIKE CORRECTIONS DID FOR HALLOWEEN, WHEN THEY ALLOWED, UH, A CLOSED SECTION OF THEIR PRISON TO BE USED.
AND YOU KNOW, SO DIFFERENT STATE AGENCIES HAVE COME ON BOARD TO REALLY HELP US BE THIS ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ENGINE FOR THE STATE TO DRIVE THIS, THIS, UM, THIS INDUSTRY, THIS FILM INDUSTRY HERE TO THE STATE AND MAKE IT HAPPEN.
EVERYBODY IN YOUR LINE KEEPS GETTING WATER UP THE NOTES, YOU'RE DIPPING 'EM BACK TOO FAR.
HOW ABOUT YOU DO IT YOUR WAY AND I'LL DO IT MINE.
YOU SEE HOW THAT WORKS? GET OUT THE WHOLE WORLD IN YOUR.
