[00:00:01]
CLOSED CAPTIONING PROVIDED BY BEAVER COUNTY.
WE'RE HONORED TODAY TO HAVE DD SUMMITS HERE WITH US.
HE'S A CHAIRMAN OF THE HISTORIC MITCHELLVILLE MITCHELLVILLE STORY IS PERHAPS ONE OF THE MOST FANTASTIC PARTS OF OUR ISLAND'S HISTORY.
WE WOULD LOVE TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THE BACKGROUND AND YOUR INVOLVEMENT IN MITCHELLVILLE, WHICH IS THE FIRST SELF-GOVERNED TOWN, FORMERLY ENSLAVED BY PEOPLE IN THE UNITED STATES.
UNFORTUNATELY HAD, WELL, I ORIGINALLY MOVED HERE A LONG TIME AGO, AT LEAST TO ME, IN 2005, MY SON WAS A SERIOUS TENNIS PLAYER, WANTED TO BE A PROFESSIONAL TENNIS PLAYER.
SO WE BASICALLY MOVED FOR THAT ALONG WITH THE OTHER AMENITIES, GOLF, GOOD SCHOOLS, PEACHES, LOVE IT HERE.
I WENT OVER YOUR BACKGROUND AND IT TAKES TOO LONG TO READ IT, BUT IT'S, IF YOU GO ONLINE AND LOOK AT IT, IT'S JUST OUTSTANDING.
THIS IS IT ON ONE PAGE, BUT IT'S ALL SMALL PRINT, BUT JUST AN OUTSTANDING BACKGROUND.
AND WE'RE SO HOW DID YOU GET INVOLVED IN MITCHELLVILLE MITCHELLVILLE PROJECT? WELL, I KNEW THE PREVIOUS CHAIR, PEACHES PETERSON.
I KNEW HER THROUGH HER HUSBAND AND THE, HIS INSTITUTE.
AND I WAS EXCITED ABOUT WHAT SHE WAS DOING.
I'D HEARD ABOUT MITCHELLVILLE SINCE THE TIME I MOVED HERE, SOMETHING IN THE BACKGROUND THAT IT WAS PART OF THE HISTORY OF HILTON HEAD AND SHE WAS FOCUSING ON GETTING SOMETHING DONE.
I UNDERSTAND YOU MADE A LOT OF CHANGES TO THE BOARD, A LOT OF INTERESTING PEOPLE ON YOUR BOARD NOW, WHO HAVE YOU BROUGHT TO YOUR BOARD SINCE YOU'VE BEEN CHAIRMAN? WELL, WE HAVE SOME FANTASTIC PEOPLE.
OUR VICE CHAIR IS LOLA CAMPBELL, WHO IS FROM AN OLD FAMILY AND ALL GULLAH FOUNTAIN, THE HERE IN HILTON HEAD, THE CAMPBELL FAMILY.
AND SHE'S ALSO A LAWYER WORKS IN BANKING, JUST OPENED A STORE IN, UH, IN GULLAH GOODS AS WELL.
SO SHE'S VERY, VERY INTERESTING DYNAMIC AND WE'RE EXCITED TO HAVE HER.
WE HAVE MARGO BROWN WHO, UH, HAS FROM HILTON HEAD PREK.
WHO'S VERY INTEGRATED WITH HILTON HEAD, A LOT OF THOUGHT LEADERS ON OUR BOARD.
I UNDERSTAND THAT THE GENTLEMEN HAVE BEEN BURNED CHURCHES ALSO UNDERGOING ABSOLUTELY BELIEVE WATERSON.
A LOT OF MARKETING EXPERIENCE WAS WE DEFINITELY NEEDED ON A PONDER.
WHO'S THE VICE CHANCELLOR OF US CB TOO MANY TO MENTION, WHERE DO YOU SEE THE MITCHELL PRESERVATION PROJECT GOING? I MEAN, RIGHT NOW, WE'VE BEEN TALKING A LONG TIME.
WE PUT SHOVELS IN THE GROUND ON THIS, BUT WHERE DO YOU SEE IN THREE OR FOUR YEARS? WELL, WE HAVE COMPLETED OUR MASTER PLAN.
SO IN THE TIME THAT I'VE BEEN ON THE BOARD WITH PEACHES LEADING AT THAT TIME, SHE'S BROUGHT OUT A WONDERFUL EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, AHMAD WARD, WHO, YOU KNOW, AND WE'VE COMPLETED A MASTER PLAN.
AND WE'RE JUST ABOUT READY TO ENTER THE CAPITAL CAMPAIGN PHASE BECAUSE FUNDING IS GOING TO BE EVERYTHING.
SO WE'LL BE DOING IT GRADUALLY.
WE'VE ALREADY PUT IN THREE NEW BATEAU BOARDS THAT SAY A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE HISTORY.
THE NEXT PHASE, WE'LL ACTUALLY BE PUTTING SHOVELS IN AND RECREATING SOME OF THE HOUSES, SOME OF THE STREETS, THE HISTORICAL CHURCHES ELEMENTS OF THOSE.
AND THEN WE WANT TO ALSO PUT AN INTERPRETIVE CENTER THAT WILL HAVE PROGRAMMING, EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING.
HOW HAS ARTIFACTS WHEN CHILDREN IN HELP WITH ARCHEOLOGICAL DIGS AND THAT SORT OF NATURE, THE CHAMBER ALWAYS COMPLAINS THAT THEY DON'T PROMOTE MITCHELLVILLE AS MUCH AS THEY SHOULD, BECAUSE IT'S NOTHING FOR PEOPLE TO SEE, PUT THEIR HANDS ON AND TOUCH.
HOW DO WE ANSWER THAT? WELL, WE HAVE EVENTS THAT WE JUST HAD THE MOST AMAZING EVENT ON, ON SATURDAY, WHICH IS JUNETEENTH.
AND WE HAD SO MANY PEOPLE THERE SUCH A BIG PROBLEM.
JUNETEENTH IS NOW A NATIONAL HOLIDAY AND MITCHELLVILLE HAD ONE OF THE GREATEST CELEBRATIONS I'VE SEEN.
SO PARTICIPATING IN THAT, LOOKING AT OUR WEBSITE.
AND THEN ONCE WE COME UP WITH OUR CAPITAL CAMPAIGN AND HELPING WITH THAT, SO THAT WE HAVE SOMETHING VISIBLE TO SEE TOUCH, HAVE MORE HISTORICAL FACTS AT OUR FINGERTIPS.
THERE'S A PLACE TO UNBLOCK PEOPLE CALLED FORT HOWL THAT WAS BUILT THERE BY A REGIMEN FROM PHILADELPHIA TO PROTECT MISERABLE.
IF YOU HAVE ANY INTENTION TO INCLUDING FOUR HOURS INTO MITCHELL OR HITS BACK ON THE BACK-BURNER, SINCE IT IS NOT PART OF THE LAND, THAT IS PART OF MITCHELLVILLE RIGHT NOW THAT HAS BEEN LEASED TO US FROM, FROM THE TOWN.
WE DO NOT HAVE PLANS TO INCORPORATE THAT.
WE HOPE THOUGH THAT WE WILL, WE'LL BE INSTRUMENTAL.
THE MITCHELLVILLE WILL BE INSTRUMENTAL IN BRINGING TOGETHER ALL OF THE GULLAH, NOT BRINGING TOGETHER, BUT WORKING TOGETHER WITH EVERYBODY, UH, SO THAT WE CAN PROMOTE ALL OF IT TOGETHER BECAUSE WHAT HELPS ONE, IT HELPS THE OTHER SO WONDERFUL STORY FROM, FROM ALL DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVES.
I MEAN, HIS STORY IS THE STORY OF HILTON IT, HOW THIS WHOLE THING STARTED STORY-BUILDING IN MY FIELD.
[00:05:01]
STORY IS IT DOES.THAT IS THE CAMPBELL'S OF BOND WELLS AND EVERYTHING.
WHEN THEY DIE, YOU NEED PEOPLE TO MAKE SURE THAT THE SCORE IS CARRIED ON.
AND THAT'S WHERE IT'S VERY IMPORTANT.
THE PROJECTS YOU HAVE TO MAKE SURE WE'RE CARRYING A STORY, ALL OF THESE PEOPLE DYING.
WELL, OUR VICE CHAIR IS OF THE CAMPBELL FAMILY CAMPBELL AND THESE FAMILIES WE BELIEVE WILL CONTINUE AND WE WANT TO HELP THEM THRIVE AND TELL THEIR STORY AND WEAVE IT INTO THE GREATER STORY WITHIN HILTON HEAD, WHICH HAS BEEN A PLANT COMMUNITY AND MITCHELL, WHO WAS THE FIRST PLANT COMMUNITY HERE.
AND THAT'S WHAT WE WANT TO DO.
BRING HISTORY INTO THE FUTURE.
YOU HAVE A LOT OF POWERFUL PEOPLE ON THE BOARD AND YOU LOOK MORE, A LOT OF THEM I'M WALKING PEOPLE IN ONE WAY OR ANOTHER.
UM, YOU GOT A PLAN FOR THEM, WALTER AND WORK ON AND WORKING RIGHT NOW AS WE SPEAK, WHERE ARE WE DOING WITH THEM? WELL, BILLY WATERSON IS LEADING OUR MARKETING COMMITTEE.
AND THAT'S ONE OF HIS, UM, HIS, HIS STRENGTH.
WE MAY BE KEEP IT UNDER OUR HATS.
WE MAY BE UNVEILING A NEW LOOK, PERHAPS A CAT TALKING ABOUT, ABOUT THAT.
WELL, I DON'T KNOW NOW, BUT IT WILL BE MORE MODERN.
IT WILL BE SOMETHING THAT TIES IN HISTORY TO THE FUTURE.
I, I WAS JEALOUS, BUT IT NEEDS A STORY IS A STORY.
BUT WITHOUT WALKING THE STORIES, NOTHING YOU'RE WALKING, PEOPLE WILL BE ABLE TO TAKE IT TO A DIFFERENT LEVEL ALL THE WAY.
YOU HAVE A LOT OF INTERESTING WALKING PEOPLE UNDER THEY WILL, BUT IT'S MARKETING IS, IS SAYING WHAT WE HAVE, BUT WE'RE ALSO CREATING NEW THINGS.
ONCE WE HAVE OUR FUNDING IN PLACE, WE WILL BE CREATING PROGRAMMING AND BECOME NOT JUST A LOCAL CENTER, BUT A NATIONAL CENTER.
WE HOPE FOR, FOR EXP FOR EXPLORING WHAT IT MEANS TO BE A CITIZEN, PUTTING PEOPLE IN THAT, IN THAT PLACE, BECAUSE THIS IS HISTORY.
IT'S NOT JUST AFRICAN-AMERICAN HISTORY OR HILTON, HEAD HISTORY.
SO BRINGING THAT ALIVE IS NOT JUST MARKETING IT'S PROGRAMMING AND THEN FEEDS OFF EACH OTHER.
I WAS LIKE, EVERYBODY CAN TELL THEM, THIS IS NOT AFRICAN-AMERICAN HISTORY.
THIS IS OUR HISTORY, AMERICAN HISTORY DESIGN HISTORY.
AND YOU SHOULD LEARN WHAT THEY'RE DOING ALL THE WAY, BUT YOU HAVE COUNTY TALK CONVERSATION WITH THE NATIONAL PARK SYSTEM TO BE POOR ENOUGH WATER.
THAT IT IS SOMETHING THAT HAS BEEN DISCUSSED.
THERE ARE A LOT OF RESTRICTIONS ON BEING IMPORTANT, THE NATIONAL PARK, UM, WITHIN THEIR UMBRELLA, BUT IT'S SOMETHING THAT A MOD IS TALKING WITH AND WE'RE DECIDING HOW TO MOVE FORWARD WITH THEM.
I HAVE TO SAY I DON'T, I HAVE NOT READ ALL THE CRITERIA AND THE RESTRICTIONS, SO I COULD NOT GIVE A AS A LAWYER, I'M GOING TO SAY, I COULD NOT GIVE A OPINION ON THAT ONE.
I WOULD HAVE TO DO WITH THEM WHAT RESEARCH.
I GOT NO REASON FOR WHY THEY'RE BEHIND US.
YOU SEEN DIVISION OF THE VEGETABLE CLASSIC BEING A LITTLE DIFFERENT THAN IT JUST NOW.
I'M WELL, I THINK THAT OUR MASTER PLAN ENCOMPASSES EVERYTHING.
IT WILL BE THAT HAS NOT BEEN BROADCAST AS MUCH AS IT SHOULD HAVE.
WELL, HAVING THIS, UH, INTERPRETIVE CENTER IS GOING TO BE KEY.
IT'S GOING TO BE A TWO-STORY BUILDING.
THAT'S GOING TO BE BIGGER, BIGGER THAN MITCHELLVILLE.
SO IT'S GOING TO BE NATIONAL PROGRAMMING.
AS I SAID, TO HAVE SYMPOSIUMS AND EVENTS THAT REALLY CAN DISCUSS, UH, NOT JUST WHAT'S HAPPENING AT MITCHELLVILLE, BUT IT CAN BE OPEN TO OTHER, OTHER EVENTS THAT THE TOWN OF HILTON HAD LOTS TO HAVE AS WELL.
AND ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WILL HAPPEN WHEN WE GET THE FUNDING WITHIN A COUPLE OF YEARS, WE'RE HOPING WE'RE REALLY HOPING TO ENTER OUR CAPITAL CAMPAIGN PHASE WITHIN SIX MONTHS A YEAR.
WE WANTED TO DO IT BEFORE THE PANDEMIC PANDEMIC HIT THINGS HAPPENED, BUT WE'RE PRETTY MUCH READY TO GO.
AND YOU'RE GOING TO DO THAT NATIONALLY.
DO YOU HAVE A COMPANY DOING A FOUR YEAR? YES, WE ARE WORKING WITH A NATIONAL CONSULTANT GROUP, THE COMPASS GROUP BASED IN MACON, GEORGIA.
THEY'VE BEEN VERY, VERY HELPFUL.
WHAT'S THE, WHAT'S THEIR PLAN.
I THINK IT'S GOING TO GO UP NATIONWIDE AND THEN NARROW DOWN WHAT THEY WANT TO DO.
WHAT WE WERE DOING IS ALIGNING INTERESTS.
SO WE HAVE MITCHELL STANDS FOR INCLUSIVITY AND, AND HISTORIC CULTURAL TOURISM, WHICH IS VERY BIG.
AND SO TYING THAT IN WITH NATIONAL BRANDS HAS BEEN A FOCUS AND THAT WILL BE PART OF OUR UNVEILING FOR OUR NEW BOOK AND THEN TARGETING MAJOR DONORS.
NATIONAL DONORS WOULD BE THE FIRST STEP.
THERE'VE BEEN PEOPLE WHO HERE IS WANT TO CHANGE THE NAME OF BEACH CITY ROAD TO SOMETHING MITCHELLVILLE LEGO, GO CALL THE TEACHY LIKE AN IMAGE OF A VOTER HAS THE MITCHELL
[00:10:01]
LAW PROJECT SAYS ALL THOSE TRIPS UP AND DOWN VOTE.WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT CHANGING THE NAME OR ROCHE? I THINK IT WOULD BE NICE AT SOME POINT TO CHANGE IT.
WE JUST GOT THE ENTRANCE TO MITZVAH CHANGED.
AND I THINK THAT IT'S NOT OUR PRIORITY, BUT HAVING A CHANGE TO SOMETHING THAT REFLECTS ALL THE HISTORY THAT'S BEEN THERE, UM, W WOULD BE A VERY GOOD MOVE.
IS THERE ANYBODY FROM WHAT COUNCIL ON YOUR WATER BILL, YOUR MEETINGS? NO, I DON'T KNOW, BUT THEY, THEY WORK WITH A LOT VERY CLOSELY.
IS THERE ANYBODY ON COUNCIL HERE THAT SHOULD BE THERE AS REPRESENTATIVE OF TOWN? WELL, WE ARE VERY HAPPY WITH THE TOWN SUPPORT LATELY AND I'M REALLY APPRECIATIVE OF ALL THAT.
I THINK THAT A MOD WORKS WELL WITH, WITH THE TOWN.
AND WE DID MOVE FROM BEING A VOLUNTEER BOARD.
THAT'S WHAT PEACHES DID MOVED US FROM BEING A VOLUNTEER BOARD TO HAVING STAFF.
SO ALTHOUGH WE DO HAVE OVERSIGHT AND WE LOOK AT THE GENERAL VISION OF MOD IS DOING THE HEAVY LIFTING AND HE'S WORKING WITH YOU, I BELIEVE, BUT IT'S VERY IMPORTANT.
I MEAN, THE VISION IS WHAT GETS US THERE BEHIND YOUR WORK IS VERY IMPORTANT, BUT THE VISION IS WHAT GETS US THERE.
WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE DONE BEFORE YOU LEAVE? I WOULD LIKE TO SEE SOME MAJOR DONORS COME AND I'M NOT ASKING THE TOWN NATIONAL DONORS.
I WOULD LIKE OUR MARKETING TO GET COMPLETED AND TO GET OUT THERE SO THAT EVERYONE KNOWS EXACTLY WHO MITCHELL IS, WHAT WE DO, WHAT WE STAND FOR AND WHAT OUR VALUES ARE.
YOU THINK IT'S STRANGE THAT NONE OF THE MAJOR PEOPLE ON
WE'RE TALKING ABOUT ALL OF HILTON HILTON.
PENN IS A VERY INTERESTING ISLAND.
UM, IT HAS, IT'S KNOWN FOR ITS TOURISM, ITS BEACH, TENNIS AND GOLF, AND THAT IN ITSELF, OTHER THAN STRAIGHT MARKETING COME HERE AND BUY DOESN'T HAVE A VALUE TO IT.
WHAT I THINK IS SO UNDER RATED IN HILTON HEAD IS ITS GREATEST RESEARCH RESOURCE, WHICH IS NOT BEACH TENNIS OR GOLF, BUT THE GREATEST RESOURCE ARTS PEOPLE AND THESE PEOPLE ON HILTON HEAD, I'VE NEVER SEEN ANY PLACE THAT HAS PEOPLE THAT ARE SO INTERESTED IN HELPING OTHERS.
SO COMMUNITY SPIRITED, AND THEY HAVE SO MANY PROJECTS AND I DON'T KNOW HOW OR WHY TO GET NATIONAL CHAINS INVOLVED IN IT.
BUT I THINK WHEN PEOPLE UNDERSTAND THAT HILTON HEAD IS MORE THAN JUST BEACH TENNIS AND GOLF, ONCE IT PERHAPS GETS MARKETED DIFFERENTLY AND IT IS A CULTURAL ATTRACTION, I THINK BRANDS WILL COME FORWARD AND BE WANT TO ASSOCIATE WITH THAT.
IT'S IN A CULTURAL ATTRACTION IS VERY IMPORTANT.
WE HAVE THE, UH, CIVIL WAR CEMETERY UP ON 2 78 AND MITCHELLVILLE, AND A LOT OF PLACES THAT, THAT ARE POLE POTTER, ABORIGINAL, BUT WE ALSO HAVE ART AND MUSIC AND ALL SORTS OF CULTURAL THAT WE HAVE A SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA.
AND WHO ELSE AROUND HERE HAS THAT? BESIDES I WAS SHOCKED WHEN I GOT HERE AND WE HAD A FULL BLOWN SYMPHONY OFFICER.
IT WAS A
AND IT'S VISUAL ARTS AND PERFORMING ARTS.
AND I LOVE THAT THE TOWN FINALLY HAS AN OFFICE OF CULTURAL AFFAIRS THAT WAS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY, BUT WE, I HOPE YOU'VE BEEN INSTRUMENTAL IN HELPING THIS, BUT I HOPE WE GOING TO HAVE ARTISTS CORRIDORS AND PEOPLE WILL COME TO HILTON HEAD, NOT JUST FOR THE AMENITIES OR MAYBE HALF WILL COME FOR THE AMENITIES.
OTHERS WILL COME TO SEE A PLAY.
UH, AND WE HAVE, WE HAVE A LOT MORE BEFORE THE ECONOMY WENT DEAD, WE WERE GOING TO BUY THE ART CENTER.
THEN WE WERE GOING TO TRANSFER IT OVER TO UCB, BUT THE TUITION, EVERYTHING WENT BAD FOR THEM.
SO THEY COULDN'T TAKE IT FILLS ME.
GOAL WAS WE BOUGHT KING FISHER.
I REMEMBER THE RESTAURANT WE BOUGHT THAT TORE DOWN AND WE'LL LOOK AT A COUPLE OF PLACES THAT WILL BE A LONG-TERM FOR AN ARTS COMPLEX.
I MEAN, IT'S A GREAT KING KING FISHERS BEING ALONE, THE PARKING LOT UP THERE.
SO WE OWN A LOT WITH THE CHAMBER BUILDING.
THAT WOULD BE A GREAT PLACE FOR A NOTCH COMPLEX RIGHT THERE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ISLANDS WILL BE SPECTACULAR ITSELF.
YOU HAVE THE DREAM OUT FOR, YOU'RE NOT GOING TO GET IT DONE THIS YEAR, BUT YOU GOT A DREAM TO GET IT ALONE.
YOU HAVE TO PLAN FOR IT AND YOU HAVE TO HAVE A VISION.
AND I LOVE WHAT THEY'RE DOING WITH CRESCENDO WITH AN OCTOBER, NOVEMBER, HAVING PEOPLE COME JUST FOR THAT, YOU HAVE TO GO TO ALL IN PARADES THIS YEAR.
I KNOW I MISSED IT LAST YEAR, BUT I WILL BE THIS.
I GOT THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE AND PEOPLE I WAS WHEN I WAS THERE TWO YEARS AGO, LAST YEAR ONE BEFORE, THIS IS WHAT MY COUNSELING.
AND I SAID, YOU KNOW, LET'S TAKE A RADIANT TURN HERE AND YOU OUT OF THE WAY, I MUST WATCH WHAT GOES BY.
SO WE CAN SEE WHAT'S IN THE PARADE BEHIND US.
[00:15:01]
AND HE SAYS TO ME, JOHN, MY FEET ARE GETTING WET.WE WERE CLOSE TO THE WATER, YOU KNOW, SO I GET BACK, BUT THIS WHOLE PARADE, YOU DIDN'T SEE.
I MEAN, IT WAS JUST SPECTACULAR.
I MEAN, THE PLANS AND IT WAS JUST BEYOND BELIEF THAT WE CAN DO THAT.
WE CAN DO THE LED TO PROMOTE THIS.
AND WE NEED TO, FROM AGRICULTURE, WE ADDED, UM, THE WOMAN THAT RUNS THE GOLD TG THING ON THE VISUAL, ON THE SWIPE ALL ROAD.
SO WE DID THAT JUNE 13TH HERE YESTERDAY.
AND SHE WAS WANTING TO TALK ABOUT IT FOR AN HOUR OR WHENEVER EVERYTHING, ALL THE WAYS SHE IS A WONDERFUL, OH MY GOD, YOU JUST DON'T WANT TO BE WITH HER.
SHE'D TOLD THE CLUB, AND I'M SENDING YOU A LONG WAY THAT SHE MENTIONED IN PASSING THAT WE NEED TO PARADE YOUR OWN PARADE JUST TO CELEBRATE WHAT WE HAVE AND BRING TO PEOPLE OUT FOR CELEBRATING WHAT WE HAVE ALONG THE WAY.
I MEAN, YOU HAVE TO CELEBRATE THE GOOD THINGS, CAUSE THE BAD THINGS TO TAKE CARE OF HIMSELF.
WHAT THIS IS PROBABLY GOING TO BE EATING AS SOON AS THE MITCHELL PRESERVATION BOARD ON THE CALENDAR.
LIKE THANK YOU VERY, VERY MUCH.
AGAIN, IT'S BEEN A PLEASURE AND I HOPE TO SEE YOU AGAIN SOON.

HI, MY NAME'S VICTORIA HOFFMAN AND I'M THE RECYCLING COORDINATOR FOR BUFORD COUNTY.
I'M GOING TO PROVIDE A QUICK COMPOSTING ONE-ON-ONE TUTORIAL.
COMPOSTING IS A GREAT WAY TO DIVERT FOOD AND YARD WASTE FROM LANDFILLS.
AND IT'S WONDERFUL FOR YOUR PLANTS.
A FEW REASONS WHY WE LIKE TO PROMOTE COMPOSTING ARE THE EPA REPORTED MORE THAN 63 MILLION TONS OF FOOD WASTE SENT TO LANDFILLS IN 2018 AND SOUTH CAROLINA, ABOUT 30% OF WASTE TAKEN TO LANDFILLS IS YARD WASTE.
COMPOSTING REDUCES MATERIALS SENT TO
[00:20:01]
LANDFILLS AND REDUCES METHANE RELEASED INTO THE ATMOSPHERE.SO YOU MAY BE WONDERING WHAT IS COMPOSTING? COMPOSTING IS THE BREAKDOWN OF PLANT MATERIAL THROUGH DECOMPOSITION.
THIS HAPPENS IN NATURE, BUT AT A SLOWER PROCESS, ONCE THE MATERIAL BREAKS DOWN, YOU ARE LEFT WITH A NUTRIENT RICH DIRT LIKE MATERIAL THAT YOU CAN APPLY TO PLANTS YOUR GARDEN OR YOUR LAWN.
COMPOST HELPS RETAIN MOISTURE IN SOIL AND REDUCES THE AMOUNT OF CHEMICAL FERTILIZERS USED IN GARDENS.
IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN COMPOSTING, BUFORD COUNTY HAS EARTH MACHINE COMPOST BINS FOR SALE FOR A GREAT PRICE OF $50.
YOU CAN FIND MORE INFORMATION ON PURCHASING ONE ON OUR WEBSITE.
THE BINS ARE ALMOST AT A 50% DISCOUNT OF THE NORMAL PRICE.
IT IS TO ASSEMBLE AND DISCREET.
AS YOU CAN SEE THE BINS COME IN THREE PARTS.

THE COMPOST BINS COME WITH A HANDBOOK THAT INCLUDES EASY ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS.
CHOOSING THE LOCATION OF YOUR BIN IS IMPORTANT.
YOU WANT IT TO BE CLOSE TO YOUR HOUSE IN A SHADED AREA AND YOU NEED A WATER SOURCE AVAILABLE.
YOU DON'T WANT IT TOO FAR FROM YOUR HOME BECAUSE YOU WANT THIS TO BE EASILY ACCESSIBLE.
YOU NEED A WATER SOURCE, SUCH AS A WATER HOSE TO BE ABLE TO KEEP IT MOIST.
A COUPLE OF THINGS YOU WILL NEED TO START.
YOUR COMPOST BIN ARE SOME GREENS, WHICH IS YOUR NITROGEN SOURCES.
THIS INCLUDES GREEN GRASS AND LEAVES AND GARDEN CLIPPINGS AND YOUR BROWNS.
YOU NEED YOUR BROWNS, WHICH ARE THE CARBONS.
EXAMPLES OF THESE ARE DRIED LEAVES, TWIGS AND WOOD CHIPS.
SOME OTHER EXAMPLES OF YOUR NITROGEN AND CARBON SOURCES ARE LISTED ON THE SCREEN WHEN JUST STARTING YOUR COMPOST BIN.
IT IS IDEAL TO LAYER YOUR GREEN AND BROWN MATERIAL IN AN ALTERNATING PATTERN.
BE SURE TO ADD WATER, TO KEEP YOUR BIN MOIST, LIKE A WRUNG OUT SPONGE.
NOW THAT YOUR COMPOST BIN IS SET UP, YOU'RE ALL SET TO BEGIN DIVERTING YOUR FOOD WASTE.
WHEN YOU WERE IN THE KITCHEN, PREPARING YOUR MEALS, INSTEAD OF TOSSING THOSE FOOD SCRAPS IN THE TRASH, YOU CAN SET THEM ASIDE TO DISPOSE OF AND YOUR COMPOST BIN.
THINGS LIKE PEELS FROM VEGETABLES AND FRUITS, EGGSHELLS, AND COFFEE GROUNDS CAN ALL BE PUT INTO YOUR BIN.
I LIKE TO KEEP A CONTAINER ON MY COUNTER FOR ANY SCRAPS THAT ARE COMPOSTABLE.
A SMALL BIN WITH A LID IS IDEAL TO DETER ANY PEST OR SMELLS.
YOU CAN ALSO STORE YOUR SCRAPS IN THE FRIDGE OR FREEZER UNTIL YOU'RE READY TO TAKE THEM OUT TO YOUR COMPOST BIN.
YOU WANT TO BE SURE TO KEEP THESE ITEMS OUT, BONES, MEAT, AND TOXIC PLANTS.
HERE'S A LIST OF OTHER ITEMS YOU WANT TO KEEP OUT OF YOUR BIN.
I LIKE TO USE A PITCHFORK AND WORK MY WAY AROUND THE BIN.
YOU CAN ALSO USE A SHOVEL OR OTHER GARDEN TOOLS, A PROPERLY MANAGED COMPOST BIN.
SHOULDN'T ATTRACT PESTS OR RODENTS, NOR SHOULD IT SMELL BAD.
IF YOU'RE UNABLE TO COMPOST OUTSIDE, YOU MAY WANT TO EXPLORE VERMICOMPOSTING VERMIN.
COMPOSTING IS WHEN YOU USE WORMS TO FACILITATE THE COMPOSTING PROCESS.
IT CAN BE DONE WITH A SMALL BIN AND CAPTAIN SIDE.
IF YOU'RE INTERESTED IN COMPOSTING, PLEASE GO TO THE COUNTY WEBSITE TO ORDER YOUR BIN.

HELLO, MY NAME IS MILTON BOSWELL.
I AM THE DEPUTY ASSESSOR OF BEAVER COUNTY.
I'M GOING TO SHOW YOU HOW TO USE THE REAL PROPERTY FUNCTIONS IN PROPERTY ACTS REAL PROPERTY REFERS TO ANYTHING THAT THE ASSESSOR VALUE SUCH AS LAND
[00:25:01]
BUILDINGS, MOBILE HOMES, OR CONDOMINIUMS. WE HAVE A LINK TO PROPERTY MAX LOCATED ON THE HOME PAGE OF THE ASSESSOR'S WEBSITE, AS WELL AS ON THE MAIN COUNTY WEBPAGE UNDER ONLINE SERVICES.SO WITH THAT, LET'S GET STARTED.
AFTER YOU COLLECT ON PROPERTY MACS, YOU WILL SEE DIFFERENT FUNCTIONS AVAILABLE, CLICK REAL PROPERTY, SEARCHING BY OWNER NAME AS THE DEFAULT SEARCH METHOD.
YOU ENTER THE LAST NAME FIRST FOLLOWED BY A SPACE AND THEN THE, UH, FIRST INITIAL.
SO IN THIS EXAMPLE, SO YOU WOULD ENTER IT LIKE THAT AND THEN CLICK GO.
OTHER WAYS TO SEARCH WOULD BE BY PROPERTY ID OR ALTERNATE ID USING THE INFORMATION FOUND ON EITHER A TAX BILL OR AN ASSESSMENT.
NOTICE YOU MAY ALSO SEARCH BY THE LEGAL DESCRIPTION SHOWN HERE.
A HELPFUL TIP WOULD BE TO USE AN ASTERIX.
THEN PART OF THE LEGAL DESCRIPTION, SUCH AS CEDAR CREST, YOU WOULD CLICK LEGAL DESCRIPTION AND THEN AN ASTERISK AND THEN CEDAR CREST.
AND IT'LL TAKE IT A FEW MOMENTS, BUT THAT'S THE BEST WAY THAT I'VE FOUND IF YOU SEARCH BY LEGAL DESCRIPTION.
NOW THE MOST COMMON WAY TO SEARCH OTHER THAN OWNER'S NAME IS BY STREET ADDRESS SHOWN HERE.
SO YOU WOULD PUT IN JUST THE FIRST STREET ADDRESS AND THEN NAME AND CLICK GO.
YOU'LL BE TAKEN TO THE OVERVIEW TAB.
ONCE THE PROPERTY INFORMATION HAS BEEN RETRIEVED, WHICH INCLUDES VALUES AND TAX INFORMATION.
PLEASE NOTE THE DATE THAT THE DATA WAS REFRESHED AND MOVING DOWN IS THE PARCEL TAB, WHICH DISPLAYS CURRENT ASSESSMENT INFORMATION, INCLUDING APPRAISED VALUES, TAXABLE VALUES, AND THE ASSESSMENT RATIO SHOWN HERE.
NOTE THAT 2020 IS A BLANK BECAUSE WE ARE NOT IN THAT TAX CYCLE YET THE LAND TAB DISPLAYS BASIC LAND ATTRIBUTES SUCH AS, UH, ACREAGE OR SQUARE FOOTAGE.
IF WE HAVE IT IN THE SYSTEM, THEY IMPROVEMENTS TAB DISPLAYS, BILLING FEATURES SUCH AS SIZE AND YOUR BILL CLICKING ON VIEW DETAILS WILL DISPLAY A SKETCH OF THE IMPROVEMENT.
AND IF YOU CLICK ON THAT, IT WILL ENLARGE THE SALES DISCLOSURE TAB DISPLAYS DETAILS OF OWNERSHIP TRANSFERS SUCH AS THE SALE DATE, THE SALE AMOUNT AND THE DEED BOOK AND PAGE VALUE HISTORY SHOWS THE LAND AND APPROVEMENT VALUES FOR EACH TAX YEAR.
AND THEN GIS MAPPING OPENS A NEW WINDOW SHOWING WHERE THE PROPERTY IS LOCATED.
JUST CLICK, OKAY, AND OBSERVE THE FINAL FEATURE POVERTY MAX THAT I WILL SHOW YOU IS SEARCH BY SALES.
THIS WILL ALLOW YOU TO FIND SALES INFORMATION BASED ON FILTERS THAT YOU CREATE A HELPFUL TIP WOULD BE TO KEEP THE FILTERS AS SIMPLE AS POSSIBLE SO THAT YOU GET THE MOST RETURNS.
IN THE FOLLOWING EXAMPLE, I WILL SET FILTERS TO FIND THE 2019 SALES FOR CEDAR CREST SUBDIVISION.
THAT'S SOLD BETWEEN $60,000 AND $300,000.
SO FIRST YOU WOULD SET THE LOW SALES PRICE TO HAVE ONE, ONE, 2019.
YOU WOULD SET THE HIGH 2 12 31, 2019, UH, SET THE LOW SALE PRICE TO 60, WHICH IS A DEFAULT AND THEN SET THE HIGH SALES PRICE TO 300,000.
NOW, IF YOU SCROLL DOWN, YOU HAVE OTHER WAYS THAT YOU CAN FILTER THIS, BUT I'M GOING TO DO THIS BY NEIGHBORHOOD.
SO YOU WOULD SCROLL DOWN HERE AND THEN THEY'RE IN ALPHABETICAL ORDER.
SO I'M GOING TO SCROLL DOWN TO CEDAR CREST AND THEN YOU WOULD CLICK GO.
AND THIS GIVES YOU THE RETURNS OF EVERYTHING THAT'S SOLD IN TAX YEAR 19.
AT THAT PARTICULAR SUBDIVISION, THERE ARE MANY DIFFERENT WAYS THAT YOU CAN SEARCH FOR SALE.
I HOPE YOU FOUND THIS VIDEO INFORMATIVE AND THANK YOU FOR WATCHING.
