[00:05:01]
PUT THAT UNDER THE POLICY COMMITTEE REPORT.THAT'S IF ANYBODY WANTS ME TO EXPLAIN WHY, UM, THAT'S THE ITEM THAT'S IN REGARD TO THE AMENDMENT OF POLICIES AND I THINK IT WOULD MAKE MORE SENSE IF WE APPROVE THAT AND IT MOVE INTO THE REMAINDER OF THE ITEMS THAT AS A POLICY COMMITTEE REPORT IS UNDER BOARD BUSINESS ACTION.
WE CAN PROCEED IF WE WANT TO, FOR YOU TO BE COMFORTABLE.
SO YOU COULD ASK TO MOVE IT UNDER YOUR, WHAT YOU WANT TO DO IS MOVE IT UNDER YOUR REPORT.
THAT REQUIRES A TWO THIRDS, CORRECT? NO, BECAUSE WE HAVEN'T APPROVED THE AGENDA YET.
IT JUST MAKES MORE COMMON SENSE TO HAVE OPERATIONS THAT ONE DOES BECAUSE OF WHAT IT, WHAT IT IS.
I DON'T THINK THERE'S GOING TO BE A BIG BROUHAHA.
I'D LIKE TO AMEND THE AGENDA TO MOVE, UM, THE APPROVAL OF GC 2.15 FOR ADOPTION UNDER THE POLICY COMMITTEE REPORT.
AND THEN WE'LL GO BACK TO THE APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA.
[Pledge of Allegiance, Moment of Silence, Statement of Media Notification]
FOR THE PLEDGE, PLEASE SILENCE.PLEASE TAKES US TO THE POINT OF CELEBRATION,
[Points of Celebration]

AND THE FIRST ONE OF THOSE IS BUFORD COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT WAS AWARDED THE CERTIFICATE OF ACHIEVEMENT FOR EXCELLENCE IN FINANCIAL REPORTING.
IT'S NO SECRET THAT OUR DISTRICT HAS AN EXCELLENT FINANCE STAFF.
WE RECEIVED WORD OF OUR 24TH CONSECUTIVE CLEAN AUDIT AND OUR CURRENT BOND RATING, R A R AA ONE WITH MOODY'S INVESTORS, SERVICE AND AA WITH STANDARD AND PORES.
NOW WE HAVE RECEIVED WORD THAT OUR STAFF HAS EARNED ITS 32ND CONSECUTIVE NATIONAL AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE FROM THE GOVERNMENT FINANCE OFFICERS ASSOCIATION OF THE UNITED STATES AND CANADA.

AND THAT CLEARLY COMMUNICATE A SCHOOL DISTRICT FINANCIAL STORY AND MOTIVATES CITIZENS TO READ THE ANNUAL REPORT.
IT SAID THE AWARD REPRESENTS THE HIGHEST FORM OF RECOGNITION IN THE AREA OF GOVERNMENTAL ACCOUNTING AND FINANCIAL REPORTING.
AND ITS ATTAINMENT REPRESENTS A SIGNIFICANT ACCOMPLISHMENT BY A GOVERNMENT AND ITS MANAGEMENT.
I WANT TO CONGRATULATE OUR FINANCE STAFF, PARTICULARLY OUR CHIEF FINANCE OFFICER, MS. TANYA CROSBY FINANCIAL SERVICES, OFFICER MR. REGGIE MURPHY, DIRECTOR OF BUDGET AND PROCUREMENT MS. JENNIFER HAMBLIN, OUR DIRECTOR OF FINANCE, SLURRY, MOCK AND BUDGET ANALYST, LOUIE ACKERMAN, AS WELL AS EVERYBODY ELSE IN THAT TEAM TO WIN THIS AWARD IN ANY YEARS AND OUTSTANDING ACCOMPLISHMENT, BUT TO WIN IT FOR 32 CONSECUTIVE YEARS IS TRULY REMARKABLE.
IT'S AN ACHIEVEMENT THAT DEMONSTRATES YEAR IN AND YEAR OUT THAT THE EXPENDITURE OF OUR COMMUNITY'S TAX DOLLARS IS BEING REPORTED IN AN EFFICIENT AND A TRANSPARENT WAY.
[00:10:01]
MEMBERS OF HER STAFF WERE HERE TONIGHT, PLEASE COME FORWARD.I WANT TO PUBLICLY CONGRATULATE THEM FOR THIS MAGNIFICENT AWARD.
UH, IT TAKES, UH, IT'S TAKES A TEAM EFFORT TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN EVERY YEAR, AND WE'RE VERY PROUD OF THIS ACCOMPLISHMENT AND, UH, INTEND TO CONTINUE IT FOR MANY YEARS TO COME.
AND THANK YOU TO YOU AND YOUR FANTASTIC TEAM.
THE NEXT ITEM THAT WE'LL WANT TO TAKE A MOMENT TO MENTION AND RECOGNIZE IS OUR RETIREES.
UH, WE, WE HAD A CELEBRATION LAST WEEK, UH, TO HONOR THE RETIREES IN OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT, UH, FROM THIS PAST YEAR.
AND WE HELD IT OVER AT THE CULINARY INSTITUTE IN BLUFFTON.
IT WAS A BEAUTIFUL PLACE TO HAVE IT.
UH, OUR HR TEAM DID A MAGNIFICENT JOB IN PUTTING TOGETHER A GREAT EVENING AND A GREAT EVENT FOR, FOR OUR RETIREES.
AND SO OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT'S MISSION IS TO PREPARE GRADUATES WHO COMPETE AND SUCCEED IN AN EVER-CHANGING GLOBAL SOCIETY AND CAREER MARKETPLACE.
AND LAST WEEK, THE DISTRICT HONORED THE GROUP OF PROFESSIONALS WHO HAVE DEDICATED YEARS OF PERSONAL SERVICE TO FULFILL THAT MISSION.
THIS CUSHION, BARRY, DO YOU WANT TO RUN THE SELFIES AND HAVING SOME FUN, CELEBRATING THEIR RETIREMENT BUFORD COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT RECOGNIZED THIS RETIRING EDUCATORS DURING A RECEPTION AT THE TECHNICAL COLLEGE OF THE LOW COUNTRIES, CULINARY INSTITUTE OF THE SOUTH.
I TAUGHT FOR 26 YEARS HERE IN BUFORD COUNTY.
I'M GOING TO MISS MY KIDS AND MY COWORKERS.
I'VE BEEN VERY BLESSED OVER THE LAST 26 YEARS TO HAVE GREAT FRIENDSHIPS WITH OTHER.
I'VE BEEN DOING THIS FOR 28 YEARS.
I'M GOING TO MISS MY STUDENTS BECAUSE I'M A TECH PERSON THERE.
MOST OF THEM CALL ME MOM OR IT 21 YEARS AND I'LL MISS THE KIDS.
YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN? THAT'S WHAT I WAS THERE FOR.
THAT'S THE HARDEST PART WAS RETIRED WAS TO SAY BYE TO THE KIDS.
SO THAT'S GOING TO BE THIS BIGGEST THING THAT I I'VE GOT A MISSES BEING AROUND THEM DURING THE CELEBRATION, THE DISTRICT, THANK THE RETIREES, PRESENTING EACH OF THEM OR THE PLAQUE HIGHLIGHTING THEIR YEARS OF SERVICE, AS WELL AS A GIFT.
AS A TEACHER, YOU HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO CHANGE LIVES AND CHANGE TRAJECTORIES FOR KIDS.
AND THAT'S WHAT THEY DO, YOU KNOW? AND SO THEY HAVE CHANGED LIVES, YOU KNOW, OVER THEIR YEARS OF SERVICE.
AND SO FOR THAT, WE'RE EXCEPTIONALLY GRATEFUL FOR ALL THAT THEY'VE DONE AND WISH THEM WELL IN THEIR RETIREMENT.
BUT IF THEY WANT TO COME BACK, WE HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY.
SO THANK YOU AGAIN VERY MUCH FOR ALL THAT YOU'VE DONE FOR CHILDREN AND BEAUTIFUL.
I THINK THE MOST IMPORTANT THING THAT WE CAN DO FOR OUR EMPLOYEES AND PEOPLE IN GENERAL IS TO LET THEM KNOW THAT THEY'RE APPRECIATED AND TO LET THEM KNOW WHAT A GREAT JOB THEY'VE DONE.
AND TO ALSO LET THEM KNOW THAT THEY'RE LEAVING US, BUT WE'RE GOING TO MISS THEM.
IF THEY WANT TO COME BACK, HER ARMS ARE ALWAYS UP.
THE NEWLY RETIRED TEACHERS ARE EXCITED TO TALK ABOUT THEIR FUTURE PLANS, INCLUDING TRAVELING AS WELL AS FINDING WAYS TO CONTINUE TO WORK WITH CHILDREN.
I PINCH MYSELF AND SEE IF IT'S REAL.
AND I PROBABLY, I PROBABLY WILL COME BACK IN THE SCHOOL SYSTEM, DO HELP OUT EVERY NOW AND THEN I'M PLANNING ON GOING ON A CRUISE IN NOVEMBER AND ALPHABET.
UM, WE GOING, MY SON IS IN THE MILITARY AND THE NAVY HE'S GOING TO BE STATIONED IN CONNECTICUT.
SO I PLAN ON GOING UP THE MACROS TO CONNECTICUT.
IT'S MORE THAN 60 EDUCATORS RETIRED AT THE END OF THE 20 21, 20 22 SCHOOL YEAR.
[00:16:17]
ON BEHALF OF THE ENTIRE SCHOOL DISTRICT, OUR COMMUNITY, AND THE MANY LIVES THAT THEY HAVE TOUCHED.WE THANK YOU AND CONGRATULATE YOU OUR BUFORD COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT RETIREES.
AND I CANNOT EXPRESS ENOUGH HOW MUCH WE APPRECIATE YOUR TIME HERE IN OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT IMPACTING LIVES.
THAT CONCLUDES OUR POINTS OF CELEBRATION THIS EVENING.
UH, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT WANTED TO ADD ONE MORE THING TO DR.
RODRIGUEZ, A REPORT, UH, UH, THAT HE DID.
HE DID EXTEND IT OUT TO APPRECIATE HIM FOR EXTENDING THE, UH, BRANCH TO COME BACK OUT.
AND HE CALLED ME AND TOLD ME THEY'RE COMING BACK.
[First Public Comments]
PUBLIC COMMENTS, UM, WILL THE CHISHOLM GOOD EVENING AND THANK YOU FOR THIS OPPORTUNITY AGAINST THEM BEFORE YOU, AS I DID ON JUNE 7TH, WHEN I CAME AND MADE A PUBLIC APPEAL TO FILE GRIEVANCES FOR THE INSTANCES THAT HAPPENED THROUGH HR, I, AT THAT TIME REQUESTED TO HAVE COPIES OF MY PAYCHECK STUFF BECAUSE I HAD BEEN TAKING THE RIGHT FOR ME TO HAVE COPIES ON EMAIL HAS BEEN REVOKED.I HAVE NOT RECEIVED ONE PAYCHECK STUBS SINCE MAY.
AND THOSE REQUESTS, 17 OF THEM HAVE BEEN IGNORED.
SINCE THAT TIME I HAVE COME TO THE DISTRICT OFFICE SEVEN TIMES I'VE LEFT SEVERAL EMAILS AND NOT HAVE ANOTHER GRIEVANCE THAT I WOULD LIKE TO FILE.
I SENT COPIES TO THREE OF THE BOARD MEMBERS BECAUSE I WASN'T SURE OF 22 DASH 22 MEANT THAT THE OTHER BOARD MEMBERS WOULD NOT BE HERE.
BUT I SENT COPIES TO ANGELA MIDDLETON, DAVID STEINBERGER, BINDER, INCORRECT, AND KATHY ROBOT, PLEASE REVIEW.
AND PLEASE, CAN I GET IN TOUCH WITH SOMEONE? THERE ARE SO MANY SERVICES THAT ARE AVAILABLE TO ME WITHOUT HAVING A PAYCHECK STUB, NOT AN AUTOMIZED SHEET.
I CAN'T, THERE ARE THINGS THAT I NEED.
I PROVIDED A GRIEVANCE UPON INVESTIGATION.
THESE PAGES WERE NEVER INCLUDED IN THE INVESTIGATION.
I WOULD LIKE TO PROVIDE THIS TO SOMEONE TODAY, PLEASE.
IF SOMEONE DOESN'T TALK TO ME TONIGHT, IF I RETURN HERE, I WILL BE PUSHED OUT OF THIS BUILDING AS I WAS ON LAST WEEK WHEN I HAD TO CALL 9 1 1, BECAUSE SECURITY WAS TRYING TO GET ME OUT OF THE BUILDING BECAUSE I WAS ASKING FOR A PAYCHECK STUB, PLEASE DON'T REVIEW THE CAMERAS, LOOK AT THIS SOME SERIOUS AND AN HONEST CHECK.
THE CAMERAS BETWEEN THE HOURS OF 11 AND ONE O'CLOCK.
I WAS FORCED OUT THE DOOR, NINE 11 CAME.
AND BEFORE I LEFT, I DID GET SOME OF THE PAPERWORK, BUT I DID NOT GET MY PAYCHECK STUFF.
IF THAT'S AVAILABLE TO ME AND EMPLOY A BUFORD KIND OF SCHOOL DISTRICT, PLEASE ME.
I KNOW I WAS TOLD THAT LAST NIGHT WOULD BE THE NIGHT THAT I FIND OUT IF I'M GOING TO STILL BE AN EMPLOYEE, BECAUSE I HAVE TO CONVINCE SOMEONE THAT I DESERVE MY JOB.
I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW THAT TONIGHT.
SO I HAVE TO PREPARE FOR MY SCHOOL YEAR ON MONDAY.
DO WE HAVE ANYONE ON THE PHONE? OKAY.
CONCLUDES THE PUBLIC COMMENTS IN CHAIRMAN'S REPORT.
[Chairman’s Report]
AS WE KNOW, WE SENT A LETTER TO COUNTY COUNCIL ABOUT THE[00:20:01]
TRAFFIC OPTIONS AROUND BUFORD HIGH SCHOOL'S ENTRANCE, UM, ON JUST WANTING TO LET YOU KNOW, I GOT ONE RESPONSE FROM PAUL SOMERVILLE DISTRICT TWO, UM, HE AGREED, WE NEED TO HAVE SUBSTANTIVE INPUT TO THAT DECISION.THE SUGGESTION WAS DOCUMENT OUR QUESTIONS AND CONCERNS AND GET THEM TO STU RODMAN, BUT ALSO COPY THE REST OF COUNCIL.
I THOUGHT THAT WAS A WISE ADVICE.
SO I JUST WANTED TO LET EVERYBODY KNOW THAT WE DID.
WE DID GET SOMEBODY TO RESPOND TO THAT LETTER COMMITTEE REPORTS,
[Committee Reports]
ACADEMICS YOU.UM, OUR LAST ACADEMIC COMMITTEE MEETING WAS HELD ON JULY 26.
AND AT THAT TIME, UM, WE REVISITED, UH, JUST A BIT OF THE M I S 38, AN IAS 38.1.
UM, BUT MOST OF THE MEETING WAS SPENT ON OH E 12, WHICH IS, UM, INSTRUCTIONAL, UM, PROGRAM AT, WE HAD AN EXTENSIVE, UM, PRESENTATION BY, UM, DR.
STRATOSE AND HER TEAM, HER MARVELOUS TEAM.
THEY'RE ALL SITTING BACK THERE.
IT'S THE, THE A-PLUS TEAM BACK THERE.
UM, SO THEY PRESENTED US WITH, UM, UH, DATA AND, UM, INFORMATION REGARDING 8 0 6, SORRY, CAN'T TALK
AND OUR, THE ACADEMIC COMMITTEE VOTED UNANIMOUSLY TO PLACE IT ON THE AGENDA ON THE, UM, CONSENT AGENDA FOR, UH, THAT AS BEING COMPLIANT.
SO THAT'S ON THE CONSENT AGENDA THIS EVENING.
UM, AND OUR NEXT MEETING IS AUGUST 24TH AT 5:00 PM.
AND JUST AS A COMMENT, I HAVE ALSO HEARD FROM MY COUNTY REPRESENTATIVE AND I THINK OTHER BOARD MEMBERS HAVE HEARD FROM THEIR COUNTY REPRESENTATIVE.
SO I DON'T THINK IT'S JUST ONE THAT'S REACHED OUT.
UM, THE, WE HAVE FOUR AR S THAT WE'RE GOING TO GO, BUT I WANT TO SHARE WHAT THE RESPONSES WERE.
DO YOU WANT ME TO SHOW UP? MY RESPONSE WAS, I THINK WHEN WE GET A RESPONSE FROM COUNTY COUNCIL, WE SHOULD SHARE WITH THE FULL BOARD AND THEN WE ALL KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON.
DO RODMAN SEND AN EMAIL TO ME AS THE COMMITTEE CHAIRMAN SAYING THAT WE SHOULD GIVE, PROVIDE FEEDBACK ON ALTERNATIVES FOUR AND FIVE, AND ALSO MAKE SUGGESTIONS ABOUT WHAT OTHER ALTERNATIVES SHOULD BE CONSIDERED.
I FORWARDED THAT ON TO ROBERT ADI.
THE NEXT MEETING IS SCHEDULED AUGUST 20TH OR 22ND, I BELIEVE FOR, UH, PUBLIC FACILITIES.
AND WE HAVE A, UM, OPERATIONS COMMITTEE ON AUGUST 10TH WHERE WE'RE GOING TO BE TALKING ABOUT SOME OF THESE ISSUES AS WELL.
I KNOW TRICIA FIDRYCH HAS BEEN IN TOUCH WITH HER COUNTY COUNCILMAN.
SHE'S NOT HERE, BUT SHE ALSO JUST KIND OF GOT THERE.
SHE WAS LISTENING TO FEEDBACK.
AND THEN I THINK WE'RE GOING TO HAVE ANOTHER MEETING AS AN OPERATIONS COUNCIL TO TALK ABOUT ALL THE DIFFERENT OPTIONS THAT ARE ON THE TABLE, BUT I DIDN'T WANT TO LEAVE WITH THE IMPRESSION THAT THE REST OF COUNTY COUNCIL HADN'T RESPONDED.
I THINK MR. SOMERVILLE RESPONDED MORE OFFICIALLY AS YOUR REPRESENTATIVE AND CC THE FULL BOARD.
UM, BUT I HAVE ALSO, I WOULD JUST LIKE TO SAY THAT I HAVE DEFINITELY NOT HEARD FROM MY KIND OF CONCERT REPRESENTATIVE EVER GO IN GARDENS REGARDING THIS, BUT, UH, THANK YOU FOR, UH, FOR SHARING THAT.
AND I, IN THE FUTURE, WHEN I THINK WAS, I JUST THINK THAT IT WOULD BE A MORE INFORMATIVE, THAT'S AN ISSUE LIKE THAT, THAT DAY WHEN THE WHOLE BOARD SENT OUT A LETTER THAT WE ALL WILL ALL INFORM HIM, THAT THAT COMES UP AND, UH, IS AN EMAIL TO THE FULL BOARD SO THAT WE ALL CAN BE ON THE SAME PAGE AND AS THAT'S AS A EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION.
UM, MOVING ON TO WHAT WE ACTUALLY, THIS WAS A SPECIAL CALLED MEETING THAT WE DID BECAUSE THERE WERE A COUPLE OF THINGS THAT NEEDED TO COME TO THE FULL BOARD BEFORE SCHOOL STARTED.
UH, THERE WERE FOUR AAR'S, UM, THAT WERE BROUGHT UP WITH CHANGES AND JUST FOR PUBLIC RECORD, UM, A OURS ARE UNDER THE PURVIEW OF THE SUPERINTENDENT AND, UH, HE AND HIS STAFF JUST BRING THEM IN FRONT OF US TO MAKE US AWARE OF ANY CHANGES OR NOTIFICATIONS OF ANY CHANGES SO WE CAN SHARE THEM WITH THE PUBLIC.
AND WE'RE INFORMED, UH, THERE WERE FOUR AAR'S KIND OF FOUR HOURS SERVICE ANIMALS IS BROKEN DOWN INTO
UM, SO I'M GOING TO GO QUICKLY THROUGH THOSE ARS.
AND THEN WE HAVE TWO ACTION ITEMS, UH, SERVICE ANIMALS.
WE ARE GOING TO BE HAVING SERVICE ANIMALS IN THE SCHOOL.
I'M NOT SURE IF IT'S THE FIRST TIME, BUT I THINK IT'S THE FIRST TIME IN RECENT MEMORY.
UM, AND SO THE STAFF DEVELOPS SPECIFIC ARS AS TO HOW SERVICE ANIMAL ANIMALS WILL BE HANDLED IN THE SCHOOL.
UH, THEY DID IT FOR THE PUBLIC FOR OTHER STUDENTS AND THEN FOR STAFF.
[00:25:01]
ARE PUBLISHED ON OUR WEBSITE, UNDER BUFORD COUNTY POLICIES UNDER THE AR UM, OPERATIONAL SERVICES, DASH 30.UH, IF ANYONE WANTS TO LOOK AT THOSE, IF ANYONE HAS ANY QUESTIONS, UH, MS. CARTILAGE IS HERE TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS YOU WANT ME TO PAUSE OR KEEP GOING THROUGH.
THE NEXT ONE IS THE SUICIDE AWARENESS AND PREVENTION AR UH, IT'S A R S S OR STUDENT SERVICES 50, AND THIS WAS, UH, CHANGED TO BRING IT IN LINE WITH THE NEW LAW THAT SAYS ANY SCHOOL IN THE STATE OF SOUTH IS THE SOUTH CAROLINA STATE LAW, ANY SCHOOL THAT ISSUES ID BADGES, WHICH ARE HIGH SCHOOLS DO THAT ON THE BACK.
THEY ARE REQUIRED NOW TO HAVE THE, UH, CONTACT INFORMATION FOR THE MAMMY SUICIDE HOTLINE NUMBER.
UM, IT'S A MENTAL HEALTH INITIATIVE FOR THE STATE.
AND SO STARTING THE HIGH SCHOOL, UM, ALL OF THE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT BADGES WILL HAVE THAT INFORMATION ON THE BACK OF THEM.
AND, UM, WE DISCUSSED A LITTLE BIT ABOUT POSSIBLY MOVING, SOMETHING LIKE THAT DOWN TO THE MIDDLE SCHOOL RIGHT NOW, THE MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS DO NOT HAVE BADGES.
UM, SO THAT THE CHANGES TO THAT ARE ON, UH, A R S S 50 MOVING RIGHT ALONG CRISIS PLANS, UH, STUDENT SERVICES, 50 58, AND, UM, AR THIS ONE, THERE WAS A BIG CHANGE THAT WAS BROUGHT INTO THIS ONE, UM, WHICH IS THAT WE HAVE A NEW ROLE HERE AT THE DISTRICT, JERRY HENDERSON, WHO HAS BEEN OUR HEAD OF, UH, COUNSELING, UH, IS MAKING A SOMEWHAT LATERAL MOVE INTO CRISIS PREVENTION COORDINATOR.
UH, SHE FEELS THAT THOSE TWO JOBS OVERLAP A FAIR AMOUNT.
UH, SO BASICALLY SHE IS GOING TO BE WORKING WITH DAVID GRISSOM AND CANDICE BROODER AND OTHER, UH, CRISIS PREVENTION STAFF IN TERMS OF TRAINING, UH, PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT.
SHE'LL BE DOING A LOT OF COORDINATION.
AND IF YOU READ THROUGH THE CHANGES TO THIS AR IT'S REALLY TRYING TO CENTRALIZE AND COORDINATE OUR CRISIS RESPONSE.
SO I'M GLAD TO HAVE MS. HENDERSON IN THAT ROLE, FINAL AR UH, SAFETY, EMERGENCY DRILLS AND ASSESSMENT.
AND IT'S JUST AN UPDATE WITH THE CRISIS COORDINATOR, UM, ABOUT THE DIFFERENT, UH, RESPONSES WE HAVE, NOT ONLY TO, UH, SAFETY DRILLS, SECURITY ASSESSMENT, FIRE SAFETY, ACTIVE SHOOTER, UM, ALL THE DIFFERENT, UH, WAYS THAT THE DISTRICT HANDLES PREPARATION FOR THOSE, UM, TYPES OF ISSUES.
SO THAT CONCLUDES MY REPORT ON THE ARS.
THERE'S NO RED TO INDICATE ANY CHANGES IN THE DOCUMENT THAT'S IN BOARD DOCS.
IS THAT THE CORRECT DOCUMENT? IS THIS THE, UM, I THINK IT JUST CAME OUT WITH THE CRISIS MANAGEMENT.
WELL, THAT'S A GOOD QUESTION BECAUSE I DIDN'T LOOK TO SEE.
I JUST, THEY WERE ALL KIND OF TOGETHER.
I DON'T KNOW IF THEY WERE WENDY.
MARKUP, IS THERE A WAY TO GET A COPY OF THE MARKUP FOR US PLEASE? THANK YOU.
AND THEN MY OTHER, UM, COMMENT IS, UH, THAT OSTP 33 ON ROMAN NUMERAL TWO REFERS TO THE, THE PERSON IN CHARGE THERE AS THE PROTECTIVE SERVICES COORDINATOR.
BUT THEN I THINK THAT IS STRICKEN IN S S 58.
AND IT'S NOW CALLED A DIRECTOR OF PROTECTIVE SERVICES.
CAUSE I THINK WE HAVE ONE IN OUR, UM, I JUST WANNA MAKE SURE IT'S CONSISTENT THROUGHOUT, CAUSE IT LOOKS LIKE IT WAS CHANGED IN ONE AND PERHAPS NOT THE OTHER, I CAN PULL UP THE, WHAT WAS GIVEN TO US AND OPERATIONS COMMITTEE.
CAUSE I SEE YOUR DOES SAY THE CLEAN VERSION ON ONE BOARD DOCS.
I THINK WHAT THE GIST OF THAT ONE WAS THIS, THAT JERRY HENDERSON WAS TAKING A LARGER ROLE WITH SOME OF THAT COORDINATION.
SO YEAH, THE ROLE OF PROTECTIVE CUSTOM SURVEY AS THE PRINCIPAL OF EACH SCHOOL WILL ENSURE THAT A COPY OF THEIR SCHOOL EMERGENCY PLAN IS ON FILE AT THE BCSD.
WHICH ONE ARE YOU LOOKING AT? THIS IS THE ONE THAT IS THE, WE CALLING IT THE DIRTY VERSION OF THE RED LINE VERSION.
ON S 33 ROMAN NUMERAL TWO, IT SAYS THE ROLE OF PROTECTIVE SERVICES COORDINATOR.
AND SO WHAT THAT IS STILL, APPARENTLY THE THING, THE ROLE OF PROTECTIVE SERVICE COORDINATOR, I'LL READ YOU SECTION TWO, IS THAT DR.
BECAUSE THAT'S WHERE I THINK MY CONFUSION LIES BECAUSE AN SS 58, DAVE GRISSOM IS REFERRED TO AS THE DIRECTOR OF PROTECTIVE SERVICES.
SO THAT'S TWO DIFFERENT TITLES, ESSENTIALLY.
I JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE IT'S CLEAR IN THE DOCS THAT WE'RE LOOKING AT.
SO ONE'S DIRECTOR OF PROTECTIVE SERVICES AND ONE IS CRISIS
[00:30:01]
PREVENTION COORDINATOR.IS THAT WHAT YOU'RE SAYING? BUT SHE'S SAYING THAT THE LANGUAGE AROUND, I WAS GOING TO ASK HER, DID SHE WANT HIM TO SHOOT? UH, DO WE NEED TO PROVE THAT NOPE, THIS IS JUST FOR INFORMATION PURPOSES.
SO I DID THAT IN THAT SPECIFIC ORDER BECAUSE WHAT WE ACTUALLY NEEDED TO GET DONE TODAY BY LAW IS APPROVAL OF THE MODEL FIRE AND SAFETY PROGRAM FOR BUFORD COUNTY SCHOOLS IS IN OUR PACKET HERE.
UM, IT DOES GO THROUGH ALL THE DIFFERENT, UM, PEOPLE THAT ARE INVOLVED, WHO TO CONTACT, HOW IT'S COORDINATED, WHO WORKS, WHO'S THE CONTACT AT EACH SCHOOL.
SO EACH SCHOOL HAS ITS INDIVIDUAL PLAN, UM, AND NOT PLAN, BUT INDIVIDUAL, UM, CONTACT PEOPLE.
AND THEY'RE LISTED AS TO WHAT THEIR RESPONSIBILITIES ARE.
AND IT TALKS ABOUT THE DIFFERENT, UM, TRAININGS THAT ARE INVOLVED, THE DIFFERENT, UH, WHAT'S NOT, NOT TRAININGS, WHAT'S THE WORD, UM, THRILLS THAT, UM, AND HOW MANY TIMES THEY'RE DONE AND HOW THEY'RE DONE AND ALL THAT.
SO ALL THAT IS CONTAINED IN THE, UH, MODEL FIRE AND SAFETY PROGRAM, WHICH WAS ADOPTED ON AUGUST 2ND.
AND WE DO NEED A MOTION TO APPROVE THAT.
SO IF ANYONE HAS ANY QUESTIONS FOR THAT, OR I CAN GO AHEAD AND READ THE MOTION, I'M GOING TO GO INTO THE MACHINE.
THE VIEW FOR COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT APPROVED THE FIRE AND SAFETY PROGRAM FOR BUFORD COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT SECOND BY MAIL DISCUSSIONS.
SO THIS WAS ADOPTED A YEAR AGO.
THAT MIGHT MY MISTAKE AND I'M NOT CLEAR, BUT I THINK IT GETS ADOPTED IT GET ADOPTED EVERY YEAR.
SO HAVE WE HAD DONE THIS PREVIOUSLY? AND SO WHY ARE WE DOING IT? SO I'LL JUST SAY THERE ARE, UM, IF, IF I CAN TAKE YOU BACK TO AROUND 14 PAGES BACK, WHICH SAYS EXHIBIT ONE, UH, AND YOU CAN SEE THERE THAT THERE ARE A LIST OF DIFFERENT AND, AND, UH, NAMES AND CONTACTS.
UH, THE, THESE ARE, THESE ARE THINGS THAT HAVE, THAT HAVE BEEN IN PLACE ANYWAY, UH, OVER TIME.
AND I THINK WHAT THE STATE'S DONE IS MORE FORMAL IN THEIR CODE NOW REQUIRING, REQUIRING THE ADOPTION.
UH, THAT'S WHAT THIS, UM, I HAVE A QUESTION ABOUT LETTER E PROUD MANAGEMENT.
IT SAYS, UM, THE BCSD COMPLIES WITH THE, DOES THE STATUTE AND REQUIRES CROWD MANAGERS TO BE PROVIDED.
IS THERE A, ARE THERE DESIGNATED CROWD MANAGERS? IS THE PRINCIPAL? THAT'S A GREAT QUESTION.
UH, THE CROWD MANAGEMENT COMPONENT IS SOMETHING THAT IS IN ADDITION NOW, RIGHT.
AND WHAT THEY'RE LOOKING AT IS WANTING, UH, FOR EVERY 250 PEOPLE AT AN EVENT PROUD MANAGERS.
AND IT VARIES WHETHER IT'S AN INDOOR EVENT OR WHETHER IT'S AN OUTDOOR EVENT.
UM, UH, WHENEVER WE HAVE AN EVENT THAT HAS LAW ENFORCEMENT PRESENT, FOR EXAMPLE, THERE THEY ARE CROWD MANAGERS.
AND SO, UH, BUT WE ARE GOING TO HAVE, UH, THERE'S A SPECIFIC TRAINING THAT THEY HAVE TO TAKE.
AND SO, UH, WE WILL HAVE OUR ADMINISTRATORS TRAINED, OUR ATHLETIC DIRECTORS TRAINED, UH, AND, AND VARIOUS OTHER MORE APPROPRIATE PERSONNEL THAT TYPICALLY PARTICIPATE IN EVENTS THAT, THAT DRAW LARGER CROWDS SO THAT, UH, WE WILL BE IN COMPLIANCE WITH, WITH THAT.
WENDY DOES THAT COVER IT? YEP.
UM, JUST FOR CLARIFICATION, AND THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE SUBMITTED TO THE STATE.
[00:35:01]
JUST FOR, JUST BEFORE WE DO THAT, ALSO CAN WE PUT SOME NUMBERS AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS PAGE? AND I SEE, WE DO HAVE THE DATE, I GUESS, THE DATE THAT WE'RE SENDING IT, BUT COULD WE HAVE SOME NUMBERS SO THAT WE CAN KNOW PAGE ONE, PAGE TWO.MOTION ON THE FLOOR IS TO APPROVE FIRE AND SAFETY PROGRAM.
UH, I NEED TO MAKE A MOTION TO APPROVE THE DEED OF RIDEAWAY AT RIVER RIDGE ACADEMY TO BUFORD COUNTY.
UM, SO I'LL GO AHEAD AND MAKE THAT MOTION.
AND THEN I'LL EXPLAIN TO YOU A LITTLE BIT ABOUT WHAT THAT'S ABOUT.
SOMEONE WANTS TO SECOND THAT MOTION.
SO THERE ARE FOUR QUICK CLAIM DEEDS IN YOUR BOARD PACKET.
THEY EACH REPRESENT TEENY TINY PIECES OF LAND AROUND THE ENTRANCE TO RIVER RIDGE ACADEMY, WHICH IS DIRECTLY ACROSS FROM HAMPTON LINK ON BLUFFTON PARKWAY.
WHAT THE COUNTY HAS ASKED, WHERE THEY'RE GOING TO PUT IN A TRAFFIC LIGHT THERE, AND RATHER THEY DON'T WANT AN EASEMENT.
THEY ACTUALLY WANT TO TAKE OVER THAT PORTION OF THE LITTLE TINY BIT OF THE PROPERTY, LIKE 0.0, TWO, EIGHT ACRES.
AND I THINK 0.0003 ACRES, UH, TO PUT IN THE TRAFFIC LIGHT.
AND THEY'RE GOING TO HAVE SIDEWALKS.
IT'S GOING TO ENHANCE THE SAFETY OF STUDENTS WHO MAY BE COMING AND GOING TO HAMPTON LAKES OR ONTO BLUFFTON PARKWAY.
SO, UH, THE STAFF WAS VERY MUCH IN FAVOR OF THIS AND THAT IS THE ESSENCE OF THE MOTION, ANY QUESTIONS, AND JUST SAY IT'S DESPERATELY NEEDED THERE.
UH, WHEN THEY OPENED UP THE NEW ENTRANCE OR EXIT AT HAMPTON LAKE, IT DUMPED A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF TRAFFIC INTO THAT INTERSECTION RIGHT IN THE ENTRANCE TO RIVER RIDGE.
UH, AND SO LAST YEAR, YOU KNOW, UH, WHILE IT WAS OPEN, I CAN TELL YOU PERSONALLY, I KNOW IT WAS A CHALLENGE FOR KIDS AND, AND, UH, THAT'S ONE OF THE THINGS I'VE HEARD QUITE A BIT.
SO WE'VE, WE'VE LOBBIED PRETTY HARD, UH, TO GET THE COUNTY, TO PUT A TRAFFIC LIGHT IN THERE.
THEY'VE BEEN MOVING IN THAT DIRECTION.
AND THIS IS, THIS IS, THIS IS THE BEGINNING OF THAT.
SO IT IS NEW FOR TINY SLICES OF PROPERTY RIGHT THERE AT THE INTERSECTION, ALL THOSE IN FAVOR UNANIMOUS.
AND THAT CONCLUDES THE SPECIAL MEETING WE HAD.
OUR NEXT MEETING WILL BE WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 10TH, AT 3:00 PM HERE IN THE DISTRICT OFFICE.
WHO IS GOING TO DO POLICY? ALL RIGHT.
I HAVE SOME NOTES AND THERE'S QUITE A FEW ITEMS HERE, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN.
UM, THE POLICY COMMITTEE MET ON JULY 14TH.
UM, AS YOU ALL REMEMBER FROM THE BEGINNING OF THIS MEETING, I'VE MOVED THE APPROVAL OF GC 2.15, UM, TO MY REPORT.
AND I'D LIKE TO GO AHEAD AND MAKE A MOTION FOR FINAL APPROVAL OF POLICY GC, 2.15 FOR A FINAL ADOPTION.
AND JUST TO EXPLAIN A LITTLE BIT OF WHY I MOVED IT OFF OF BOARD BUSINESS ACTION.
UM, TINA, JUST THE REASON I MOVED IT OFF IS BECAUSE THIS IS IN REGARD TO WHAT THE PROCEDURE IS FOR US TO AMEND OUR POLICIES.
AND THIS IS GOING TO FINAL APPROVAL.
SO UNDER OUR CURRENT EXISTING POLICIES, UM, THIS WOULD BE THE FINAL TIME AND IT WOULD CHANGE THE PROCESS BY WHICH THE OTHER POLICIES THAT I'M GOING TO READ TODAY WILL FOLLOW.
SO THAT'S WHY I WANTED TO BRING IT AND HAVE THAT SET FIRST.
IT'S SO REFRESHING FOR US TO DEAL WITH SOMETHING THAT MAKES A LOT OF SENSE.
I WAS TRYING TO GET A CHUCKLE FROM SOMEBODY.
UM, YOU HAVE PROMOTIONS ON ALL THOSE IN FAVOR.
AND SO NEXT, I'M GOING TO MOVE FOLLOWING UNDER THAT NEW POLICY OF HOW WE AMEND OUR POLICIES.
UM, MOVING ON TO O E 8.1 1 8 11.
SO THE, THIS IS GOING TO FALL UNDER THE SUPERINTENDENTS ROLE.
[00:40:01]
AGAIN, THIS IS AN O E M.THIS IS THE ROLE OF THE SUPERINTENDENT AND WHAT WE DID HERE IN POLICY COMMITTEE.
WHAT WAS THAT? WE CHANGED THIS TO ADDRESS THE AR NEED OR GAP, ESSENTIALLY.
AND WE MOVED FORMER OH EIGHT 8.1 1 2 8 12.
SO WHAT YOU'LL SEE THERE IS THAT WE ADDED ESSENTIALLY A, UH, A POLICY THERE THAT INSTRUCTS THE SUPERINTENDENT TO ENSURE THAT DISTRICT ADMINISTRATIVE REGULATIONS REGARDING CREATING OR CHANGES TO SCHOOL, LOGOS AND CRESTS ARE OUTLINED, MONITORED AND FOLLOWED BECAUSE PRESENTLY WE DO NOT HAVE AN AR IN THAT REGARD.
SO A MOTION TO APPROVE, OH, E 8 11 2 STATE QUOTE SHALL ENSURE THAT THE DISTRICT ADMINISTRATIVE REGULATIONS REGARDING CREATION OR CHANGES TO SCHOOL, LOGOS AND CRESTS ARE OUTLINED MONITORED AND FOLLOWED AND QUOTE, AND MOVE CURRENT O E EIGHT POINT 11 2 0 8 POINT 12.
SO UNDER THE NEW POLICY, WE'VE DISCUSSED THIS ALREADY.
ONCE OUT OF POLICY, WE USED TO HAVE TO DO THREE READINGS, AND NOW IT'S DOWN TO TWO AND THAT'S NICE THAT'S EFFICIENCY.
AND ALL THOSE IN FAVOR, I ASKED ABOUT THIS AND I'VE MISSED THE POLICY MEETING.
I TRIED TO WATCH ON COUNTY COUNCIL CHANGES TO SCHOOL LOGOS AND CREST CHANGES TO SCHOOL NAMES, MASCOTS OR COLORS, IS THAT ALL FILE UNDER THE SAME THING? THERE WAS ANOTHER SECTION I'M TRYING TO REMEMBER.
I'M GOING TO GET TO EVERY, WE CHECKED EVERY BOX OR WE TRIED TO CHECK EVERY BOX, BUT THIS CREATION OF EIGHT, OR THIS IS A NEW THING.
THIS IS A NEW THING BECAUSE THERE WAS A LOT OF CONFUSION IN REGARD TO LOGOS AND CRESTS.
AND SO WE'RE BRINGING THAT INTO THE CONVERSATION AND ESSENTIALLY SAYING THE DISTRICT NEEDS TO HAVE AN AR.
I THINK YOU GUYS DID AN AMAZING JOB, STRAIGHTENING OUT ALL THE DIFFERENT PLACES, THIS INFORMATION WASN'T POLITICAL.
I JUST WASN'T SURE IF THAT WAS COMING UP.
I JUST HAVE A QUESTION ABOUT THE WORDING.
IS IT REGARDING CREATION OR REGARDING CREATING BECAUSE ON THE FORM THAT I HAVE HERE AND WHAT'S UP HERE, IT SAYS CREATING.
AND I THINK IN THE MOTION, IT SAYS, UH, SHALL ENSURE THAT DISTRICT REGARDING CREATION OF THE WORD IS OR CHANGES.
SO I JUST TO BE CLEAR, WHICH ONE ARE WE USING? WELL, THE ONE THAT IS ON THE ACTUAL POLICY MANUAL HERE IS WHAT WE WORKED ON.
SO I WOULD SAY, UM, ROBIN, IF YOU COULD CHANGE THE WORD CREATION IN THE MOTION TO SAY CREATING THAT WOULD BE MOST APPROPRIATE IT'S NO, THANK YOU.
UM, I'LL JUST LITTLE CONCERNED WHEN IT SAYS RIGHT HERE ON PAGE 76, WHERE IT SAYS APPROVAL OF NEW OR REQUESTED TO CHANGE.
UH, AND WHICH ONE ARE YOU LOOKING AT? NUMBER 10.
WE'RE ONLY AT 11, BUT I WILL GET TO THAT.
THE NEXT ITEM IS IN REGARDS TO THAT O E M EIGHT POINT 10, THAT YOU WERE REFERENCING MR. SMITH AND GC 3.8, UM, AND ADDITIONS TO 3.9 AND THREE 11.
SO I'M GOING TO GO AHEAD AND THE MOTION AND THEN I'LL DISCUSS, UM, I MOVE THAT THE BOARD APPROVE.
OH, E EIGHT POINT 10 AND GC 3.8 WITH THE ADDITIONS OF GC 3.9 AND THREE POINT 10 A SECOND.
AND SO TO EXPLAIN THOSE, UM, AGAIN, OH, E EIGHT POINT 10 IS GOING TO BE IN REGARD TO THE SUPERINTENDENT'S RESPONSIBILITIES.
UM, AND THAT IS SIMPLY ADDING IN,
[00:45:01]
UH, MASCOTS AND COLORS, AND THEN ALSO ADDRESSING THE NEED FOR NEW OR REQUESTS FOR CHANGES.SO WE ARE CLARIFYING PREVIOUS LANGUAGE TO INCLUDE ALL OF THE DIFFERENT SCENARIOS THAT WERE NOT ENCOMPASSED PREVIOUSLY.
AND TO, IN TERMS OF CHANGING PREVIOUS, WHERE DO, WHERE DOES THAT SPELLED OUT AT? WHEN I READ WHAT I READ, WHAT I READ, I DON'T, I DON'T SEE THAT IN IT.
I'M JUST CONCERNED WITH THE, UH, OR REQUEST TO CHANGE, UH, YOU KNOW, TO CHANGE.
IT COULD BE THE CHANGE, YOU KNOW, I JUST WANT TO BE PACIFIC AS POSSIBLE AS, YOU KNOW, IF YOU WERE LIKE YOU'RE REQUESTING TO REDO OR TO, YOU KNOW, MAKE A, MAKE THE AMBULANCE CHANGED.
AND, YOU KNOW, SO THIS IS LAYING OUT THE PROCESS THAT THE SUPERINTENDENT IS REQUIRED TO FOLLOW IN REGARD TO ANY NAMES, MASCOTS, OR COLORS FOR SCHOOLS.
AND THEN IT GOES, AND THEN WHEN WE GET TO GC 3.8, 3.9 AND THREE 10 THAT'S IN REGARD TO THE BOARD'S ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES.
SO JUST, UH, I'M SEEKING CLARIFICATION ON THIS.
SO, UM, HERE'S HOW I UNDERSTAND IT.
TELL ME IF I'M WRONG OR CLARIFY FOR ME FROM, UH, WHAT I UNDERSTAND IS, UH, THE BOARD HAD EMOTION AT THE LAST MEETING, UH, TO ASK THE, THE SUPERINTENDENT AND THE STAFF TO CREATE A, UH, AN AR AROUND LOGOS.
UH, WHAT WE'VE DONE HERE IS CODIFIED THAT MOTION INTO OUR POLICY.
UH, IT DOESN'T SPECIFY, UH, ANYTHING AROUND, UH, THE LOGO, OTHER THAN TO SAY THAT WE HAVE TO HAVE, UH, AN A R TO ADDRESS LOGOS.
UM, AND NOW YOU'RE FINE TUNING, UH, THE POLICIES AROUND MASCOTS COLORS AND THOSE TYPES OF THINGS, NOT LOGOS, BUT MASCOTS AND COLORS, UNDERSTANDING THAT, UM, AT A SCHOOL, WHEN, WHEN STUDENTS, UH, AT A PARTICULAR CLUB, UH, LET'S SAY, UH, BLUFFTON BOBCAT'S, FOR EXAMPLE, UH, WHEN, WHEN STUDENTS AT BLUFFTON HIGH SCHOOL IN A PARTICULAR CLUB ARE DESIGNING A T-SHIRT AROUND, UH, THEIR CLUB OR THEIR GROUP, AND, AND THAT T-SHIRT HAS A BOBCAT ON IT, RIGHT? IF THE OFFICIAL LOGO, UH, IF THE LOGO THAT THE MASCOT THAT THE SCHOOL USES IS THE BAT IS THE BOBCAT.
BUT IF THE STUDENTS DESIGN A T-SHIRT THAT HAS A BOBCAT STANDING UP AND DOING THIS, RIGHT, THAT'S NOT AN ISSUE FOR THE BOARD.
IT'S STILL, IT'S STILL A BOBCAT, RIGHT.
THE BOARD IS DELVING INTO THE BOARD IS ASKING ME TO DELVE INTO HOW WE MANAGE LOGOS.
I JUST WANT TO BE CLEAR ON THE EXPECTATION AROUND THAT.
A QUESTION FOR CLARIFICATION TOO, ON A, I GUESS IT'S GC THREE, 10, THE ONE ABOUT CONSIDERING IMPROVED NAMES FOR ADJUNCT FACILITIES, ET CETERA.
IT TALKS ABOUT A COMMITTEE, UH, IN, IN EIGHT IT SAYS, AND A BOARD RECOMMENDED AD HOC COMMITTEE, UM, BOARD APPOINTED AD HOC COMMUNITY COMMITTEE.
WHAT CONS, WHAT KIND OF COMMITTEE IS GOING TO BE? IS IT JUST WHATEVER THE SCHOOL DECIDES? IS IT, CAN ANYONE MAKE THEMSELVES A COMMITTEE? I MEAN, I'M A LITTLE CONCERNED ABOUT, YOU KNOW, JUST CONSISTENCY OF PROCESS.
CAUSE I HADN'T REALLY EXPLAINED THE GC ONES YET.
UM, SO THE GC, UH, 3.8 IS GOING TO BE IN REGARD TO NEW ITEMS. 3.9 IS GOING TO BE IN REGARD TO EXISTING FACILITIES.
AND THREE POINT 10 IS IN REGARD TO ADJUNCT FACILITIES TO INCLUDE ATHLETICS FACILITIES.
WHEN IT TALKS ABOUT THE AD HOC COMMITTEES OR COMMUNITY COMMITTEES, THE LAYOUT AND THE MAKEUP OF THOSE IS GOING TO BE FOUND IN OUR AR IN THE AIR.
SO THERE'S AN AR FOR CHANGING THE NAME OF, OR NAMING ADJUNCT, THE COMPOSITION OF THOSE AD HOC COMMUNITY COMMITTEES.
AND WE VERY SPECIFICALLY USE THAT LANGUAGE BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT THEY ARE REFERRED TO IN THE ARS.
AND IT LAYS OUT, UM, WHAT STAKEHOLDERS ARE SUPPOSED TO BE ENGAGED.
AND I DON'T KNOW IF WE CAN GET A COPY OF THAT, BUT IT WAS IN THE IT'S
[00:50:01]
IN THE POLICY COMMITTEE OR THE AR THAT LISTS OUT THE TYPES OF PLAYERS THAT SHOULD BE ON THOSE.SO FOR EACH ONE OF THESE POINTS, THERE'S A COMMITTEE.
AND THEN SOMEWHERE IN THE AIR, THERE IS SOME SORT OF A GUIDELINE AS TO WHAT, WHO APPOINTS THE COMMITTEE AND WHAT THE COMMITTEE NEEDS TO BE COMPOSED OF.
CAUSE WE HAVE ONE OF THESE ISSUES COMING UP BEFORE OPERATIONS I'LL MAKE SURE IT GOES CORRECT.
NUMBER NINE AND NUMBER 10, ACTUALLY SPECIFY WHO'S ON THAT COMMITTEE.
IT SAYS A COMMITTEE COMPRISED OF THE REQUESTING SCHOOLS, SIC MEMBERS, STAFF, STUDENTS, AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS.
MY QUESTION WAS, WELL, THESE, SO WHEN THINGS COME FORWARD IT'S WOULD BE THE BA BASED ON PAST THINGS, NAMING OF ADJUNCT THINGS, THEY'VE COME FROM THE SIC COMMITTEES.
SO, UH, MS. ROBIN SAID EXACTLY WHAT I WAS GOING TO SAY, UM, TO, TO, TO DEGREE.
I, UM, I'M NOT SURE THAT MY QUESTION KIND OF FALLS IN THAT I WAS KIND OF REREADING IT.
AND EVERY, BECAUSE I REMEMBER DURING THE DISCUSSION, I STILL FEEL THAT EVEN THOUGH WE'VE CAME UP WITH SOME OF THESE, THAT THERE'S STILL ROOM FOR ERROR HERE, BECAUSE MY QUESTION IS EVEN AT THE BOARD LEVEL, AT WHAT DEGREE AND WHAT MECHANISMS HAVE WE PUT IN PLACE BEFORE, WHAT TOOK PLACE TO NOT TAKE PLACE AGAIN, BECAUSE THE FACT THAT YOU STILL HAVE THE SCHOOL LEVEL AND THE DISTRICT LEVEL.
SO HOW DOES THE, HOW THE, HOW THE DISTRICT LEVEL DO WE KNOW WHEN SOMETHING LIKE WHAT DR.
RODRIGUEZ JUST SAID TO TAKE PLACE WHEN YOU DO CHANGE, CHANGE THE, UH, THE BOBCAT TO ACAT OR TO A, UM, A WILDCAT, YOU KNOW, HOW, HOW, HOW, HOW DO WE KNOW EXACTLY WHAT I MEAN, HOW, HOW, HOW DO WE, HOW DO, WHAT MEASURES HAVE WE PUT IN PLACE, OR WHAT STEPS HAVE WE PUT IN PLACE TO BE KNOWN? NOT ABOUT THAT.
I JUST WANT TO CLARIFY, BECAUSE SINCE, SINCE THIS IS A PUBLIC MEETING AND THIS IS A HIGHLY SENSITIVE TOPIC FOR OUR COMMUNITY, I MEAN, WE'VE, WE'VE SEEN THAT WE'VE WITNESSED THAT.
I, I DIDN'T SAY IF THEY CHANGE A BOBCAT TO A WILD CAT OR TO A CAT, WHAT I SAID WAS IF THEY HAVE THEIR TYPICAL DEPICTION OF A BOBCAT HEAD, AND THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN, THE CLUB WANTS TO SHOW A BOBCAT, IT'S STILL A BOBCAT STANDING UP, THUMBS UP LIKE THIS, RIGHT.
THAT'S A DIFFERENT LOOK FOR THE BOBCAT, RIGHT? THAT'S A LOGO THING.
THAT'S SOMETHING ON A T-SHIRT THAT'S, THAT'S, THAT'S NOT THEIR MASCOT, RIGHT? THEIR MASCOT IS STILL THE BOBCAT.
THAT'S THE EXAMPLE I WAS GIVING.
BUT I JUST, IN OTHER WORDS, I JUST SAID, EVEN IF YOU DID THE EGO, IN OTHER WORDS, IF YOU SAID THAT, IF YOU SAID, IF IT WAS THE EGO VERSUS TO A BIRD OR WHATEVER IT WAS IT BEAUTIFUL HIGH, THEN YOU HAVE THE SAME ISSUE.
AND MY, AND MY, AND MY QUESTION IS WHAT'S THE PROCESS AND WHAT MAKES THIS PROCESS? I SAID THAT WE DIDN'T HAVE THESE REGS NINE, AND WE DIDN'T HAVE THESE OES.
NOW WE HAVE EASE, BUT I STILL FEEL THAT THERE'S ROOM TO, TO, UM, FIND OUT WHEN TO HAVE AIG.
MOMMY SAID, WE HAVE ALWAYS BEEN THAT WE HAVE, EVEN THOUGH WE HAVE THESE OES, WHAT OF ZOE, STOP THAT FROM HAPPENING MRS. ROMANO.
I MEAN, SO, SO TO BE CLEAR, WE JUST APPROVED THAT OEE EIGHT POINT 11 AND THAT'S TO ADDRESS WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT.
I HAVEN'T SEEN THE AIR YET BECAUSE WE JUST APPROVED IT AND WE'VE SENT IT TO DR.
AND HE'S GOING TO LET US SEE WHAT THAT AR LOOKS LIKE.
SO I CANNOT ANSWER YOUR QUESTION WITH ANY LEVEL OF CONFIDENCE, BUT I DO KNOW THAT WE NOW HAVE A DIRECTIVE THAT'S BEEN GIVEN TO THE DISTRICT THAT WAS NOT THERE BEFORE.
SO NOW THERE'S ACTUALLY ACTION THAT CAN BE TAKEN AND PROCESSES THAT CAN BE PUT IN PLACE TO ADDRESS THAT ISSUE FOR THE FUTURE.
ARE WE GOOD TO GO FOR THE MOTION? OKAY.
ANY QUESTIONS, BUT I STILL HAVE A PROBLEM WITH AD HOC COMMITTEE BECAUSE IN THE PAST, THE STUDENTS, THE STUDENTS AND THE COMMUNITY MEMBERS WOULD BRING A RECOMMENDATION TO THE BOARD.
AND THEY STILL, THEY STILL WILL.
SO ONLY ON NEW FACILITIES IS WHERE THERE'S AN AD HOC COMMITTEE FORMED.
AND THERE'S A VERY DISTINCT MAKEUP OF THAT COMMITTEE, BUT ON EXISTING FACILITIES, ATHLETICS, OR ADJUNCT FACILITIES, THAT'S GOING TO COME FROM AN SIC.
[00:55:02]
SO THAT'S WHAT WE CLARIFIED IS THAT TO YOUR POINT, IF STUDENTS, STAFF MEMBERS OF THOSE EXISTING FACILITIES, I JUST LIKE TO MAKE A SUGGESTION ABOUT, UM, THIS PROCESS AND THAT WE ONLY HAVE, YOU KNOW, SINGLE PAGES OF OUR, OF OUR POLICY MANUAL, COULD THE TOP OF IT AT LEAST SAY WHAT, WHAT, UM, THAT, THAT PAGE IS, WHICH, WHICH, UH, POLICY IT IS.UM, IT WOULD JUST MAKE A LOT QUICKER AND EASIER.
[Superintendent’s Report]
REPORT, I'M SORRY.MR. SMITH, ARE YOU DIRECTING THE MEETING NOW? AND I WAS ACTUALLY ON THE, I WAS ACTUALLY GOING TO ACTUALLY, I POINTED OUT A QUESTION WHAT I WAS GONNA SAY WAS IT WASN'T ANYTHING ELSE THIS CAUSE OF THE POLICY BE? UM, THERE WERE SOME OTHER ITEMS THAT ARE GOING TO HAVE TO ROLL OVER.
WE WERE TRYING TO CONSTRAINT FOR TIME.
SO WE ADDRESSED THE PRESSING MATTERS AND THERE ARE QUITE A FEW OTHER POLICIES.
THAT'LL BE AT THE NEXT MEETING THAT WE DISCUSSED.
I COULDN'T LIST THEM OUT FOR YOU IN YOUR DIRECTLY RIGHT NOW, BUT I KNOW THAT THERE'S OTHER WORK TO BE DONE.
UM, SUPERINTENDENTS REPORT, STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT.
UH CHAIRMAN'S FOR, SO, UH, TWO ITEMS TONIGHT ON THE SUPERINTENDENTS REPORT, ONE UNDER STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT IS ABOUT OUR INSTRUCTIONAL 22, 23 KICKOFF.
STRADDLES ARE HERE THIS EVENING.
CHAIRMAN'S DRIVEN DURING BOARD MEMBERS THIS EVENING.
WE ARE HIGHLIGHTING ACADEMIC INITIATIVES FOR THE UPCOMING SCHOOL YEAR.
PRESENTERS ARE HERE FROM THE INSTRUCTIONAL SERVICES DIVISION AND THE DEPARTMENT OF SPECIAL EDUCATION THAT OPERATES UNDER STUDENT SERVICES AND THEIR OFFICER DR.
JULIET WHITE JOINING US THIS EVENING ARE DANIEL PHALEN, PHALEN DIRECTOR OF DATA SERVICES, NICHOLAS FLOWERS, ELEMENTARY DIRECTOR OF TEACHING AND LEARNING ASHLEY HUTCHINSON, DIRECTOR OF READINESS, MELISSA MURRAY, DIRECTOR OF LITERACY, KAREN MCKINSEY, SECONDARY DIRECTOR OF TEACHING AND LEARNING CHARLENE SURFACE, DIRECTOR OF SPECIAL EDUCATION.
DIANA
JULIET WHITE OFFICER OF STUDENT SERVICES.
AS WE START THE PRESENTATION, I WANT TO SHARE A FEW ADDITIONAL POINTS WITH THE BOARD.
FIRST, WHAT IS FOLLOWING IS A SNIPPET OF THE SERVICES THAT ARE PROVIDED TO SCHOOLS, TEACHERS, AND OUR STUDENTS, AND RECOGNIZE THAT THE YEAR PROVIDES ADDITIONAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR DISTRICT STAFF TO PROVIDE CONTINUAL UPDATES.
SECOND, CURRENTLY ONE OF THE LARGEST PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVES IS CURRENTLY TAKING PLACE AT MAY RIVER HIGH SCHOOL, ALSO AT BUFORD MIDDLE AND IT, AND IN HILTON HEAD.
I WANT TO THANK OUR BOARD MEMBERS FOR SHARING IN THE OPENING DAY'S EVENTS.
ADDITIONALLY, I WANT TO TAKE A MOMENT TO MAKE THE SPECIAL RECOGNITION TO DR.
CAMPBELL AND THE TEAM WHO HAVE WORKED TO PREPARE AND CONTINUE TO PRODUCE EXCELLENT LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES FOR BUFORD COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT.
FINALLY, SIR, WITH THE PERMISSION OF THE BOARD, I ASKED THAT WE HOLD QUESTIONS UNTIL THE END OF THE PRESENTATION.
THIS WOULD ALLOW FOR THE CONTINUITY OF THE PRESENTATION.
I APPRECIATE THE OPPORTUNITY TO BRING FORWARD THEIR WORK.
AND AT THAT I'D LIKE TO BRING FORWARD DANIEL FALLON.
GOOD EVENING, MR. CHAIRMAN PLAYS IN GENERAL, THE BOARD AS DR.
STRATIS MENTIONED, MY NAME IS DANIEL FALLON DIRECTOR OF DATA SERVICES AND ACCOUNTABILITY.
AND I JUST WANT TO TALK ABOUT A FEW THINGS THIS EVENING, FIRST AND FOREMOST, IF YOU SEE ON THE SLIDES THAT I HAD AN ABSENCE OF A BETTER WORD, I USE EXPAND, EXPAND CAN BE TAKEN, UH, MANY DIFFERENT WAYS.
SO MY THINKING OF EXPAND IS MORE OF A DEEPER UNDERSTANDING.
SO WHEN WE'RE TALKING ABOUT THESE FIVE BULLETS OF THESE FIVE TOPICS THAT I'M NOT EXPANDING AS I'M MAKING THINGS WIDER, I'M GOING DEEPER.
SO THEY'RE EXPANDING DEEPER, DEEPER UNDERSTANDING, DEEPER KNOWLEDGE, DEEPER USE.
SO FIRST PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT.
SO COMING OUT OF DATA SERVICES, YOU MIGHT NOT THINK PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT IS HIGH ON OUR LIST, BUT WE DO HAVE A DATA ANALYSIS THAT IS THE, THE, THE, WHAT THE, WHY THE, HOW TO USE YOUR DATA FOR ALL EDUCATORS.
THAT'S GOING FROM OUR LEVEL TO DISTRICT OFFICE, TO THE SH TO THE CLASSROOM AND WORKING IN PLCS AND MAKING SURE THAT EVERYONE HAS THE UNDERSTANDING OF THE DATA THAT WE'RE USING THE ASSESSMENTS.
SO WE'RE ALL ON THE SAME PAGE AND WE CAN MAKE INFORMED DECISIONS, CURRENT
[01:00:01]
PROGRAMS, UH, THOSE INCLUDE OUR, OUR STUDENT INFORMATION SYSTEM POWERSCHOOL.UH, WE, WE TRAIN OUR DATA CLERKS AT THE SCHOOLS.
WE HOLD MONTHLY MEETINGS, AS WELL AS OTHER PD.
WE OFFER THEM PD OUTSIDE OF THE DISTRICT AS WELL, UH, AT STATE AND REGIONAL AREAS.
AND THEN ALSO JUST IN GENERAL ASSESSMENTS.
SO YOU'LL HEAR MORE OF THAT THROUGHOUT THE PRESENTATION, AS WE MOVE TO MORE OF A BALANCED ASSESSMENT APPROACH, UH, MORE INTO THE FORMATIVES, MORE INTO THE SUMMATIVES AND A BALANCE.
AND YOU UNDERSTAND WHY ASSESSMENTS ARE AT THE FOREFRONT AND FINALLY ACCOUNTABILITY.
THAT'S WHAT I'M USUALLY HERE TALKING TO YOU ALL ABOUT.
AND I JUST WANT TO TAKE A SECOND TO RENO, SMALL EXCERPTS FROM THE EDUCATION OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE, ACCOUNTABILITY MANUAL, UH, AND, AND MR.
UM, SO OF THE EOC AND THE ACCOUNTABILITY MANUAL, THE EXPRESS GOAL OF THE ACCOUNTABILITY SYSTEM IS TO IMPROVE TEACHING AND LEARNING SO THAT ALL STUDENTS ARE EQUIPPED WITH A STRONG ACADEMIC FOUNDATION.
AND TO ENSURE THAT ALL STUDENTS GRADUATE WITH A WORLD-CLASS WITH WORLD-CLASS KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND CHARACTERISTICS AS DEFINED BY THE PROFILE SOUTH COUNTY GRADUATES, THE ACCOUNTABILITY SYSTEM IS DESIGNED TO PROMOTE HIGH LEVELS OF STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT THROUGH STRONG AND EFFECTIVE SCHOOLS.
SO WHILE I USUALLY JUST GIVE YOU DATA AND REPORT CARD ANALYTICS, IT'S REALLY THE ENTIRE INSTRUCTIONAL SERVICES TEAM AND REALLY THE DISTRICT OFFICE, WE'RE ALL INVESTED IN THIS ACCOUNTABILITY SYSTEM.
SO MOVING ON TO PERFORMANCE MATTERS.
WE'VE HEARD OF THIS, IT'S SOMETHING WE BROUGHT IN LAST YEAR, BUT WE'RE GOING TO EXPAND AS IN, I HAVE A DEEPER UNDERSTANDING WITH PERFORMANCE MATTERS WHEN WE'RE, WE'RE LOOKING AT OPENING.
NOW OUR ASSESSMENTS ON THE 10TH, WE'RE GOING TO TRAIN OUR COACHES, OUR, OUR, OUR LITERACY AND NUMERACY COACHES, AS WELL AS I THINK OUR MASTER TEACHERS THAT THEY'RE GOING TO BE TRAINED FROM PERFORMANCE MATTERS SO THEY CAN START WRITING CLASSROOM ASSESSMENTS AT THE SCHOOL LEVEL.
SO NOT ONLY IS IT A DISTRICT OWN ASSESSMENT, NOT ONLY IS THE DATA JUST FROM SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENTS ARE FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT VENDORS.
WE'RE ALSO GETTING INTO NOW FORMATIVE ASSESSMENTS AT THE CLASSROOM LEVEL THAT TEACHERS CAN USE IMMEDIATELY FOR THEIR DATA.
WE'RE ALSO GOING TO INCREASE THE KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS AT THE CLASSROOM LEVEL, AS A SCHOOL AROUND MORE AND BETTER ANALYTICS.
SO THE PLATFORM IS VERY POWERFUL.
WE ROLLED OUT IT'S NOW TIME TO GO A LITTLE BIT DEEPER SO THAT WE CONTINUE THAT WORK POWER SCHOOL E COLLECT IS ANOTHER THING.
DATA SERVICES IS WORKING ON THIS YEAR AS A STATE PROVIDED SPONSOR PROGRAMS. SO WE WERE PAYING NOTHING FOR THIS.
IT DOES LINK DIRECTLY TO POWERSCHOOL AND IT'S MORE OF A PUBLIC.
STRATUS MENTIONED INTERNAL, UH, STAKEHOLDERS.
THIS ACTUALLY ALLOWS US TO GATHER INFORMATION, ALLOW THINGS TO BE A LITTLE BIT EASIER FOR PARENTS AND STUDENTS.
AS FAR AS THE PORTAL PART OF POWERSCHOOL, THEY CAN UPLOAD DOCUMENTATION, THEY CAN FILL OUT SURVEYS AND WHATNOT.
WE'RE GOING TO ROLL THAT OUT AND START USING THAT THIS YEAR, UH, AT A, AT A MORE USABLE LEVEL, NOT JUST FOR STATE ACCOUNTABILITY, REFINING THE ASSESSMENT CALENDAR, I'M GOING TO LEAVE THIS TO SOMEWHAT OF THE TALK, UH, COMING UP AT A MUCH DEEPER LEVEL, BUT WE DID REVISIT THE ASSESSMENT CALENDAR.
WE DID REVISIT THE ASSESSMENT WINDOWS.
UH, IT WAS EASY TO LOOK AT OUR ASSESSMENT CALENDAR AND SPEND AND ASSUME THAT WE'RE TESTING ALL YEAR LONG.
THAT WAS MORE SO THE FLEXIBILITY AT THE SCHOOL LEVEL TO ACCOMMODATE TESTING WINDOWS FOR THEIR UNIQUE SITUATION.
WE'RE TRIMMING THOSE WINDOWS DOWN SO THAT WE REMOVED THE LOOK OF NONSTOP TESTING.
AS WE BRING IN THE BALANCE ASSESSMENT MODEL, THEN FINALLY VIRTUAL, VIRTUAL LEARNING PARTNERSHIP.
AGAIN PROBABLY DOES NOT MAKE SENSE TO BE IN DATA SERVICES, BUT IT'S AMAZING.
SO, SO WITH THAT COMPONENT, UH, CURRENTLY WE HAVE 84 STUDENTS THAT ARE SIGNED UP FOR THE VIRTUAL LEARNING PARTNERSHIP.
UH, WE HAVE EXPANDED OR EXTENDED INTO FOURTH AND FIFTH GRADE, AND WE ALSO CARRIED ON FROM OUR EIGHTH GRADERS LAST YEAR IN THE NINTH GRADE, WE HAVE PARTNERSHIPS WITH A LOW COUNTRY VIRTUAL CONSORTIUM, AS WELL AS BERKELEY COUNTY THAT ARE PROVIDING VIRTUAL LEARNING TO BEAVER COUNTY STUDENTS, A SMALL SET OF BUFORD COUNTY STUDENTS, UM, THAT HAVE SHOWED AN INTEREST AND HAVE BEEN VETTED AND REVIEWED, UH, TO MEET THE QUALIFICATIONS, TO BE AT HOME LEARNERS.
SO PICKING UP WITH THE BALANCED ASSESSMENT SYSTEM, ONE OF THE BIG FOCUSES IS TAKEN THE WORK THAT'S HAPPENING IN DATA SERVICES AND ACCOUNTABILITY, BUT REALLY THINKING ABOUT TRANSLATING THAT INTO PRACTICE WITHIN OUR CLASSROOMS. SO WE GIVE A LOT OF ASSESSMENTS TO STUDENTS.
AND SO THE BEST ANALOGY THAT I CAN GIVE IS IF WE REALLY WANT TO BALANCE BETWEEN FORMATIVE ASSESSMENTS AND SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENTS WITH THOSE REALLY INTERIM BENCHMARKS ALONG THE WAY.
AND SO THE CRITICAL PIECES, IF YOU'VE EVER HAD, UM, COMPANY COMING TO VISIT YOUR HOUSE, YOU DON'T WAIT.
AND TO THE VERY END, WHEN YOU'RE SERVING THE BIG DINNER TO SAY, HOW'S IT TASTE, IS IT TASTES GOOD AS YOU GO ALONG AND COOKING THAT SOUP AND YOUR MEAL, YOU'RE GOING TO TEST IT ALONG THE WAY TO MAKE SURE THINGS ARE COMING ALONG.
[01:05:01]
THAT WE ARE PREPARING STUDENTS FOR THE VERY END TO GET THAT ASSESSMENT OF LEARNING, WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE HAVE VERY STRONG ASSESSMENTS FOR ASSESSMENTS, FOR LEARNING ALONG THE WAY TO REALLY BALANCE THAT OUT, BUT ALSO ENSURING THAT WE'RE NOT OVER ASSESSING STUDENTS.AND, UM, WE'RE GIVING UP MEANINGFUL ASPECTS OF ASSESSMENTS TO ENSURE THAT WE'RE CAPTURING THE BIGGEST PICTURE, UM, TO DRIVE OUR INSTRUCTION.
AS WE MOVE FORWARD, PART OF THAT WORK, THEN WE'LL HAVE THIS SCHOOL YEAR, WE WILL BE GIVING OUT TWO BENCHMARK ASSESSMENTS THAT THE DISTRICT CREATED.
THAT IS JUST THE PLATFORM THAT WE WILL BE ADMINISTERING IT FROM, BUT OVER THE SUMMER, AND ALONG THE WAY, WE'VE BEEN WORKING ON BUILDING ASSESSMENTS WITHIN THERE.
SO WE'LL END UP WITH TWO DISTRICT BENCHMARK ASSESSMENTS THAT ARE SPECIFICALLY ALIGNED TO OUR STATE STANDARDS, AND THEN BEING ABLE TO USE THAT IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE OTHER ASSESSMENTS THAT ARE ADMINISTERED SUCH AS MAP IREADY AND ALL OF THAT, THE WORK ALONG THERE HAS ALSO REALLY BEEN ALIGNED TO KAREN HESSE'S WORK, WHICH IS WHAT SC READY AND ALL OF THAT REALLY LOOKS FOR WHEN WE THINK ABOUT DEPTH OF KNOWLEDGE.
AND ONE OF THE BIG ASPECTS IS HER COGNITIVE RIGOR MATRIX.
SO REALLY ENSURING THAT WE'RE PREPARING STUDENTS FOR THE ASSESSMENT, BUT ALSO FOR REAL LIFE TO THINK DEEPER, TO GO FURTHER.
AND ALL OF THAT, THE NEXT PIECE THEN IS GIFTED AND TALENTED EDUCATION.
OKAY, MR. FLOOD, I'D JUST ADD THAT.
IN ADDITION TO, UH, TO THAT WORK, IT'S ALSO GROUNDED IN THE WORK OF RICK STIGGINS, UH, WITH BALANCED ASSESSMENT SYSTEMS. AND WE HAVE HAD BEEN FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO HAVE RICK STIGGINS HERE, UH, WORKING WITH OUR TEAM AND WORKING WITH OUR STAFF AND SHARING HIS, UH, HIS EXPERTISE IN HIS INSIGHTS AROUND BUILDING BALANCED ASSESSMENT SYSTEMS. YEAH.
AND ESPECIALLY HIS, UM, ASSESSMENTS ARE FOR LEARNING THAT STRONG FORMATIVE ASPECT.
SO THEN THE NEXT PIECE GIFTED AND TALENTED.
SO WITHIN THERE, UM, WE WANT TO ENSURE THAT WE HAVE AN IDENTIFICATION PROCESS THAT REMOVES ANY BARRIERS AND ANY, UM, SITUATIONS THAT COULD COME UP REGARDLESS OF THE CHILD'S BACKGROUND, WHERE THEY LIVE IN THE COUNTY AND ALL OF THAT.
AND SO THE ONLY WAY TO REALLY LOOK AT THAT AS HAVING A UNIVERSAL APPROACH, THAT REGARDLESS OF WHERE YOU ARE, UM, YOU HAVE THE SAME ACCESS TO THE IDENTIFIED.
SO, UM, TO IDENTIFY IN GIFTED AND TALENTED, YOU HAVE ACHIEVEMENT AND YOU HAVE APTITUDE ARE THE TWO AREAS WE LOOK FOR.
ACHIEVEMENT HAPPENS EVERY YEAR IN SCHOOL.
THAT WOULD BE YOUR MAP ASSESSMENT, YOUR IREADY, BECAUSE THEY'RE, UM, NORM REFERENCED WHEN IT COMES THEN THAT YOU CAN HAVE A STUDENT THAT WE'RE LOOKING AT.
IF WE DON'T SEE IT THERE, THE OTHER WAY WE COULD LOOK AT IT AS AN APTITUDE ASSESSMENT.
SO AS DO THEY HAVE THE ABILITY TO PERFORM HIGH? SO ONE OF THE THINGS FOR THIS YEAR, WE ARE GOING TO BE ASSESSING FOURTH GRADERS AND SIXTH GRADERS AND GIVING THEM AN APTITUDE ASSESSMENT.
SO WE'RE HOPEFUL THEN THAT WE'RE GOING TO BE ABLE TO SEE THE ABILITY WITHIN STUDENTS AND TO BE ABLE TO USE THAT THEN TO, UM, IDENTIFY STUDENTS THAT MAY NOT HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED SO WE CAN TAKE THEIR ABILITY TO PERFORM HIGH AND CAPTURE AN ACTUAL ACHIEVEMENT THEN, AND THEN THAT'LL HAPPEN THROUGH REALLY THAT TALENT DEVELOPMENT ASPECT AND OUR DISTRICT PLAN.
SO THE DISTRICT STRATEGIC PLAN, IT CAME TO YOU IN THE SPRING, WE'LL BE BRINGING IT FORWARD AGAIN, LATER THIS SPRING, UM, WE WILL BE MOVING FORWARD, UM, TO REALLY FOCUS IN ON OUR BIG ROCKS OF STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT, TEACHER AND ADMINISTRATOR QUALITY AND THAT SCHOOL CLIMATE AND GIFTED AND TALENTED.
ONE OF THE PIECES WITH IT IS THAT WE WILL BE ENTERING THIS YEAR.
WE'LL BE WORKING ON PLANNING FOR THE LAST ADOPTION CYCLE FOR THAT FIVE-YEAR CYCLE.
SO WE'RE NEARING THE END OF THE FIVE-YEAR.
UM, AND THEN WE'LL RELOOK AT OUR BROADER GOALS AND THEN OUR CURRICULUM AREAS, CONTINUING THE WORK REALLY IN THE CONTENT AREAS THAT MAKE UP STEM ALONG WITH HEALTH PE, UM, AND ENSURING THAT, UM, THE CONTENT AREAS AND TEACHERS ARE PREPARED AND THEN PARTNERING THAT WORK WITH, UM, MRS. MARIA AND I ARE WORKING TOGETHER ON OUR COACHING SUPPORT.
SO ENSURING THAT WE HAVE VERY SPECIFIC PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT ALIGNED TO THE UNIQUE NEEDS OF OUR INSTRUCTIONAL NUMERACY AND LITERACY COACHES, BRINGING THEM TOGETHER FOR A UNIFIED APPROACH THAT WE'LL HAVE EACH MONTH FOCUSED ON, UM, STUDENT CENTERED COACHING, TARGETED STUDENT POPULATIONS, THAT BALANCED ASSESSMENT SYSTEM, UM, AND THEN PLCS, AND THEN BREAKING INTO OUR SPECIFIC CONTENT AREAS, BECAUSE WE KNOW THE NEEDS OF OUR COACHES ARE VERY SPECIFIC AND UNIQUE TO THEM FOR THE ROLES THAT THEY SERVE IN SCHOOLS.
GOOD EVENING, I'M ASHLEY HUTCHISON, DIRECTOR OF READINESS.
UM, I'M GOING TO TALK A LITTLE BIT TONIGHT ABOUT WHAT WE ARE DOING IN EARLY CHILDHOOD, UM, TO CONTINUE THE EFFORTS THAT THE DISTRICT, UM, IN OUR ISD TEAM IS
[01:10:01]
WORKING TOWARDS.SO, UM, AND WHAT THE TRAVELING PRESCHOOL BUS THIS SCHOOL YEAR, WE ARE HOPING TO EXPAND THE TRAVELING PRESCHOOL BUS IN ORDER FOR IT TO BE OUT THREE OR FOUR TIMES A WEEK.
UM, IN THE PAST, IT'S BEEN OUT ONE OR TWO DAYS A WEEK AND STAFFED WITH, UM, OUR CURRENT PARENT EDUCATORS THAT ARE IN THE DISTRICT TO THE PARENTS AS TEACHERS PROGRAM.
UM, THIS SCHOOL YEAR, WE ARE GOING TO PUT A CERTIFIED EARLY CHILDHOOD TEACHER ON THE BUS, ALONG WITH TWO, UH, INSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANTS IN ORDER FOR THE BUS TO BE IN THE COMMUNITY MORE OFTEN, UM, AND PROVIDE A DEEPER, UM, INSTRUCTION ON THE BUS, YOU KNOW, PRE A LITTLE PRESCHOOL MORNING CLASSROOM TO GET CHILDREN CONNECTED TO THE DISTRICT AND OTHER EARLY CHILDHOOD PROGRAMS EARLIER THE PARENTS AS TEACHERS PROGRAM, UM, WE RECENTLY WON THE BLUE RIBBON QUALITY ENDORSEMENT AWARD FOR PROVIDING THE HIGHEST QUALITY HOME VISITATION PROGRAM.
UM, WE ARE GOING TO START, WE'RE GOING TO RECEIVE THAT AWARD, THAT AT THE END OF THE MONTH, WE'RE GOING TO GO OUT TO COLORADO AND BE RECOGNIZED FOR THAT.
UM, SO WE'RE EXCITED ABOUT THAT.
WE CURRENTLY HAVE FIVE PARENT EDUCATORS IN THE DISTRICT.
UM, THEY'RE CONTINUING TO SERVE FAMILIES BIRTH TO FIVE YEARS OLD WHO ARE IN NEED OF HOME VISITATION SERVICES IN SCHOOL.
UM, CHILD FIND AN EARLY CHILDHOOD, UM, EVALUATION TEAM.
THIS IS A TRUE COLLABORATION WITH SPED, UM, AND DR.
WHITE AND, UM, MR. FERRIS ARE GOING TO TALK WITH US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT IT TONIGHT, BUT WE RECENTLY JUST CLOSED OUT OUR SCHOOL YEAR.
UM, AND THAT TEAM EVALUATED 330 FOR THREE FOUR, OR FIVE-YEAR OLDS LAST YEAR FOR SPECIAL EDUCATION SERVICES.
UM, WE HAVE RECENTLY EXPANDED THOSE TEAMS. SO NOW WE WILL HAVE TWO FULLY FUNCTIONING, EARLY CHILDHOOD EVALUATION TEAMS TO HELP SERVE BOTH SIDES.
UM, AND THE ENTIRE COUNTY, WHICH IS GREAT, OUR EARLY CHILDHOOD INSTRUCTIONAL COACHES THAT WE, UM, PUT INTO PLACE LAST YEAR, UH, TERRY OBERG AND LINDSAY TERMEER ARE OUT IN OUR SCHOOLS EVERY DAY, TARGETING PRE-KINDERGARTEN AND KINDERGARTEN DEVELOPMENTALLY APPROPRIATE PRACTICES ALSO THAT ARE ALIGNED WITH THE DISTRICT'S INITIATIVES.
SO REALLY TRYING TO BUILD TEACHER CAPACITY AND PROVIDING DEVELOPMENTALLY APPROPRIATE PRACTICES TO BUILD THAT STRONG FOUNDATION.
PRE-KINDERGARTEN CURRENTLY WE HAVE SCREENED 725 CHILDREN.
SO WE ARE, WE ARE SLOWLY RECOVERING FROM OUR COVID.
UM, OUR PRE-KINDERGARTEN EARLY CHILDHOOD IN GENERAL, ACROSS THE NATION WAS HIT PRETTY HARD.
UM, SO WE ARE RECOVERING AS FAR AS SEEING MORE FOUR AND FIVE-YEAR-OLDS COME INTO THE DISTRICT.
UM, WE'VE SCREENED 725 OUT OF THAT 594 ARE ELIGIBLE FOR A PRE-KINDERGARTEN PROGRAM.
SO REMEMBER THAT MEANS THEY'RE FALLING BELOW THE 50TH PERCENTILE DEVELOPMENTALLY, OR THEY HAVE ENOUGH RISK FACTORS THAT CONTRIBUTE TO THAT OVERALL GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT.
UM, OUR NEW PRE-K, UH, PURPOSEFUL PLAY-BASED KINDERGARTEN INITIATIVE THAT WE'RE WORKING ON FOR THIS SCHOOL YEAR.
UM, THE FOUR SCHOOLS THAT HAVE, UM, WE'RE STARTING THIS INITIATIVE WITH IS KUSA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL OCA T ELEMENTARY, MOSSY OAKS AND PORT ROYAL.
UH, THOSE SCHOOLS ARE RIGHT NOW PREPARING LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS.
SO REALLY LOOKING AND FOCUSING ON WHAT THAT KINDERGARTEN CLASSROOM LOOKS LIKE, HOW CHILDREN MOVE AROUND AND MANIPULATE, UM, AND FACILITATE LEARNING WITHIN THE CLASSROOM.
SO CREATING THE CENTER'S BACK, UM, BEING ABLE TO, SO CHILDREN ARE, UH, MOVING AROUND THE CLASSROOM INVESTIGATING AND REALLY BEING ABLE TO MANIPULATE LEARNING, UM, MANIPULATIVES.
WE ALSO ARE PROVIDING CURRENTLY, UM, PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT THAT INTEGRATES THE SOUTH CAROLINA EARLY LEARNING STANDARDS THROUGH DEVELOPMENTALLY APPROPRIATE PRACTICES.
FOR THAT PLAY-BASED PURPOSEFUL PLAY-BASED KINDERGARTEN APPROACH IS VERY GOOD EVENING.
SO I'M GOING TO START BY FOCUSING ON THE WORK THAT HAPPENED WITHIN CURRICULUM MAPPING.
UM, YOU'RE PROBABLY SEEING THAT WE ARE ALL TAKING ON PIECES, BUT THEY CONNECT TO ONE ANOTHER.
SO CURRICULUM MAPPING DIS IT HAPPEN IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS, UM, BUT IT ALSO HAPPENED IN MATH, SCIENCE AND SOCIAL STUDIES.
BUT WHAT WE DID THIS YEAR WAS WE REALLY FOCUSED ON THOSE PRIORITY STANDARDS, REFINING THAT WORK FROM LAST YEAR, WE MADE SURE THAT WE ALIGNED IT TO CURRENT PROGRAMS. WHAT WE MEAN BY THAT IS STATE ADOPTED RESOURCES SO THAT IT MAKES IT EASIER AND MORE SUCCINCT FOR OUR TEACHERS AND OUR STUDENTS.
UM, IN ADDITION, WE REALLY FOCUSED ON ACADEMIC VOCABULARY UTILIZING A COMMON GLOSSARY AND DEFINITIONS.
UM, AND THIS IS IN SERVICE OF MAKING SURE THAT WHEN TEACHERS ARE USING THE ACADEMIC VOCABULARY FROM THE STANDARDS THAT WE HAVE A COMMON DEFINITION, SO THE STUDENTS HAVE A SIMILAR, UM, INSTRUCTIONAL COMPONENT, UM, THAT VOCABULARY AND THE DEFINITION THROUGHOUT THEIR EDUCATION.
[01:15:01]
UM, AS MR. FLOWERS MENTIONED, WE ARE WORKING TOGETHER AND SUPPORT TO COACHES.WE USE STUDENT CENTERED COACHING AS A MODEL.
WHAT THIS MEANS IS WE WORK WITH COACHES TO MAKE SURE THAT WE KNOW HOW TO LOOK AT STUDENT EVIDENCE.
STUDENT EVIDENCE COMES FROM THE STANDARDS BASED INSTRUCTION.
SO THEY KNOW HOW TO WORK WITH TEACHERS TO PROVIDE STANDARDS BASED GOALS, COLLECT EVIDENCE FROM STUDENTS, AND THEN PROVIDE STRATEGIC FEEDBACK AND WORK WITH TEACHERS TO HELP STUDENTS GET TO THE NEXT LEVEL TO HELP STUDENTS ACHIEVE MASTERY.
UM, SO THAT'S IMPORTANT TO MENTION BECAUSE SOMETIMES WHEN WE THINK OF COACHING, WE THINK OF THE TEACHER CENTERED COACHING STUDENTS, AND OUR COACHING REALLY FOCUSES IN ON STUDENT WORK AND STUDENT WORK TO THE MASTERY OF STANDARDS.
UM, AND THAT ALIGNS NICELY WITH MANY OF OUR GOALS.
IN ADDITION, UM, THERE WAS A TEAM THAT WORKED ON A PLC GUIDE.
UM, SO OUR COACHES WILL BE PART OF THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THAT.
SO THAT WAY, THAT THE SAME KIND OF PD, THE SUPPORT, THE COMMON DEFINITIONS OF PLC FROM THE ADMINISTRATOR LEVEL DOWN TO COACHES, THERE'S ALSO GOING TO BE SOME WORK WITHIN INSTRUCTIONAL RESOURCES.
UM, SO WE HAVE SOME WRITING WORK THAT WE WILL BE WORKING ON TO SUPPORT THAT WE HAVE NO RED INK FOR OUR SECONDARY SCHOOLS.
UM, SO THERE WILL BE ONGOING PD TO SUPPORT THAT IMPLEMENTATION.
UM, YOU'VE HEARD ME SPEAK TO THAT.
WE ARE FOCUSING IN ON THE FOUNDATIONS OF READING AND INTERVENTION THAT ALIGNS TO TEACHING CHILDREN, PHONICS, PHONEMIC AWARENESS AS THE BASE TO THEIR READING PRACTICES.
SO WE HAVE SIPS, UM, TO SUPPORT THAT.
AND IN ADDITION, WE HAVE READING PLUS IN THE MIDDLE SCHOOLS, WHICH WAS LAST YEAR, WAS THE FIRST YEAR.
SO WE'RE GOING TO CONTINUE WITH THAT IMPLEMENTATION.
UM, SO THERE'S THESE ADDITIONAL LAYERS OF SUPPORT FOR INTERVENTION FOR STUDENTS BASED ON THEIR DIFFERENT NEEDS.
UM, AND THEN WE ARE IN YEAR TWO OF OUR SCHOLASTIC LITERACY ROLLOUT.
SO THAT IS TIER ONE SUPPORT FOR SOME OF OUR ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS.
SO THERE WILL BE ONGOING PD AND SUPPORT FOR THOSE SCHOOLS.
AGAIN, THIS YEAR, UM, DRILLING DOWN INTO THE FOUNDATIONS OF READING.
WE ARE, WE ARE, THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION IS HAVING A LETTERS TRAINING FOR SOME SCHOOLS.
SO WE ARE FORTUNATE TO HAVE EIGHT SCHOOLS PARTICIPATING IN THAT TRAINING.
UM, AND IT IS AN INTENSIVE TRAINING OVER TWO YEARS, IT'S AGNOSTIC TO A CURRICULUM, BUT IT REALLY HELPS TEACHERS UNDERSTAND HOW STUDENTS LEARN TO READ.
UM, SO IT'S GOING TO BE A HEAVY LIFT.
IT IS A LOT OF WORK, BUT IT'S GOING TO MAKE A VERY, VERY BIG DIFFERENCE.
UM, BECAUSE OFTENTIMES EVEN IN OUR EDUCATION BACKGROUNDS, WE DID NOT LEARN TO THE DEGREE THAT THIS COURSE WILL TEACH US ON, UM, ENCODING AND DECODING AND THOSE FOUNDATION READING SKILLS.
UM, AND THEN TO WORK ALONGSIDE OF THAT, WE CONTINUE TO ROLL OUT AND SUPPORT THE INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS THAT THEY WILL BE ABLE TO UTILIZE WITH THEIR NEW LEARNING FROM LETTERS TO SUPPORT STUDENTS IN LEARNING THE FOUNDATIONS OF READING, SUCH AS PHONICS AND PHONEMIC AWARENESS AT TIER ONE, WHICH IS THEIR CORE CLASSROOM TIER TWO, WHICH IS THAT STRATEGIC INTERVENTION AND EVEN TIER THREE, THE COMPREHENSIVE INTERVENTION THAT STUDENTS NEED, UM, ALL ALONG THE WAY REALLY MONITORING THE DATA FOR THAT.
AND THEN WRITING LAST YEAR, WE HAD A WRITING COMMITTEE THAT MET ALL THROUGHOUT THE YEAR.
UM, IT WAS VERY FLUID, BUT IT WAS GREAT BECAUSE ALMOST EVERY MEETING THERE WAS ABOUT 10 SCHOOLS REPRESENTED.
WE SPENT THE YEAR LOOKING AT STUDENT, UM, EVIDENCE.
SO WE BROUGHT IN WRITING FROM ACROSS OUR SCHOOLS.
WE LOOKED AT WHERE WE ARE, WHERE WE NEED TO GO.
UM, AND FROM THAT, WE ARE GOING TO BE PUTTING IN PLACE A WRITING MATRIX THIS YEAR.
UM, THIS MATRIX LAYS OUT HOW THE STANDARDS PROGRESS ACROSS THE WRITING.
UM, IT ALSO ALIGNS THE DIFFERENT STANDARDS TO, AND WRITING THAT SHOULD OCCUR BASED ON THAT STANDARD.
UM, AND IN ADDITION, WE HAVE INTIMACY.
SO THE INTERIM ASSESSMENT MR. FLOWERS SPOKE ABOUT THERE WILL BE A TDA, UM, WHICH IS A TEXT DEPENDENT ANALYSIS WRITING.
THAT'S WHAT THEY TAKE IN ESSAY READY.
SO THAT WILL BE HAPPENING AS A BENCHMARK AND IN SECONDARY OUR CORE RESOURCES COLLECTIONS.
SO THERE WE HAVE ALREADY REWORKED, UM, THEIR WRITING PROMPTS TO LOOK AND SOUND LIKE AND BE LIKE THE TDA WRITING PROMPTS THAT FROM THE STATE.
SO THAT WILL BE EMBEDDED IN THE MATRIX AS SUPPORT TO THE TEACHERS THIS YEAR, AS WE GROW OUR WRITING.
THANK YOU BOARD MEMBERS FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO SHARE SOME OF THE WORK THAT WE'VE DONE AND THAT WE ARE PLANNING TO DO.
SO I'M GOING TO START WITH PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT.
[01:20:01]
FIRST PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AS OF TODAY ON THE PROFILE, THE BUFORD COUNTY GRADUATE, VERY EXCITED THAT WENT WELL.JUST WANT TO SHARE THE UNITS THAT WE WENT THROUGH TODAY.
WE WENT THROUGH A SIXTH GRADE UNIT THAT IS BASED ON HAMMURABI'S CODE AND THE SIMILARITIES AND DIFFERENCES DOES BUFORD COUNTY ORDINANCES.
WE LOOKED AT, UM, EXPANDING THAT INTO THE MAGNA CARTA IN THE UNITED STATES CONSTITUTION, BASED ON OUR NEXT EIGHTH GRADE 11TH GRADE SOCIAL STUDIES CURRICULUMS, WE LOOKED AT A FIRST GRADE CURRICULUM, ISLE FINANCIAL LITERACY BASED ON SPENDING AND SAVING THUMBS UP OR THUMBS DOWN.
WE ALSO LOOKED AT AN EIGHTH GRADE LESSON ON THE SCENT OF HOME, WHICH IS ABOUT PLOW MUD, WHICH WE NOW KNOW AS PLUFF MUD.
BEFORE I GOT THAT FROM MAY RIVER TODAY, I'D ALREADY HAD A TEACHER FROM THAT SESSION, SEND ME A UNIT THAT SHE HAD CREATED SINCE THE END OF THE SESSION.
SO TEACHERS ARE EXCITED TO BE A PART OF THIS WORK.
WE HAVE STARTED TO WORK ON OUR MTSS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SESSIONS FOR THE YEAR AS WELL.
WHITE AND I WILL BE PRESENTING LATER THIS WEEK, A SESSION ON CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT AND DISCIPLINE FOR THAT TIER ONE INTERVENTION.
WE, AS ALL, WE HAVE ALSO BEGAN A ROLLOUT OF THE NEW BUFORD COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT, PROFESSIONAL LEARNING COMMUNITIES.
WE HAVE SEVERAL SESSIONS THAT ARE GOING TO BE LED DURING SUMMER INSTITUTE FROM ROSE BACKUS, WHO WAS OUR SUPERVISING GURU ON THIS.
SANDS FROM BUFORD MIDDLE SCHOOL AND MYSELF WILL BE PRESENTING ON THE FIFTH TO OUR INSTRUCTIONAL COACHES.
WE REALLY LOOK FORWARD TO OUR PLC GUIDE, BRINGING SOME CONSISTENCY TO THAT COLLABORATION PROCESS FOR INCREASING STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT SCHOOL PROGRAM SUPPORT TWO OF OUR INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE SCHOOLS THIS YEAR HAVE GOTTEN NEW PRINCIPALS AND WE ARE FORTUNATE TO HAVE GREAT PRINCIPALS SITTING IN THOSE SEATS.
HOWEVER, WE NEED TO PROVIDE SUPPORT FOR THEM AS THEY MOVE INTO AN IB SCHOOL, WE WILL, AS ISD WILL BE PROVIDING TO THEM HEAD OF SCHOOL AND ADMINISTRATIVE TRAINING THROUGHOUT THE YEAR IN ORDER TO SUPPORT THAT CAMBRIDGE CAMBRIDGE IS A GROWING PROGRAM IN OUR SCHOOLS.
THE CAMBRIDGE ACADEMY PROVIDES STUDENTS WITH THE OPPORTUNITY TO PURSUE A RIGOROUS PROGRAM OF STUDY BASED ON A STANDARDIZED CURRICULUM.
THE PROGRAM REALLY FOCUSES ON THE OPPORTUNITY TO APPLY LEARNING ACROSS THE CONTENT AREAS.
WE'VE SEEN GREAT SUCCESS AT BATTERY CREEK WITH THIS PROGRAM, AND WE'VE ADDED ROBERT SMALLS, INTERNATIONAL ACADEMY AND MAY RIVER.
AND AGAIN, INSTRUCTIONAL SERVICES WILL BE SUPPORTING THAT THROUGHOUT THE YEAR WORLD LANGUAGES, VERY PLEASED TO SAY THAT IN 2021, WE HAD A 175% INCREASE OF STUDENTS EARNING THE SEAL OF BI-LITERACY.
WE WENT FROM 16 STUDENTS TO 44.
OUR GOAL THIS YEAR IS SUPPORT THAT INITIATIVE AND CONTINUE TO GROW THAT OPPORTUNITY FOR OUR STUDENTS.
BY FOCUSING ON THE EDUCATORS, ENCOURAGING OUR STUDENTS TO TAKE THE ACCESS TESTING, I WILL BE WORKING WITH KELLY PENLEY AND DIANA DRUNK SKI ON THIS INITIATIVE.
AND I'M GOING TO BE QUITE HONEST WITH YOU.
OUR TARGET IS LEXINGTON DISTRICT ONE.
OUR GOAL IS 130 SOCIAL STUDIES.
WE PLAN TO CONTINUE OUR FOCUS ON INQUIRY BASED LEARNING, WHICH IS PART OF OUR DBQ PROCESS THAT CORRELATES TO OUR 2019 SOUTH CAROLINA SOCIAL STUDIES STANDARDS.
WE OFFER TWO SESSIONS TO TEACHERS TODAY, AND WE WILL OFFER TWO SESSIONS FROM THE DBQ PROJECT ON AUGUST 10TH.
WE ARE VERY EXCITED TO HAVE THEM WITH US THAT WILL CONTINUE THROUGHOUT THE YEAR.
WE WILL BE DOING A BOOK STUDY ON A BOOK CALLED WHY WON'T YOU JUST TELL US THE ANSWER BY BRUCE LASH, WHICH OUR STATE DEPARTMENT USE IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF OUR STANDARDS.
SO WE THINK IT'S IMPORTANT TO GET THAT BOOK IN THE HANDS OF EVERY SINGLE ONE OF OUR SOCIAL STUDIES TEACHERS.
WE'RE GOING TO CONTINUE TO SUPPORT THEM WITH MATERIALS AND RESOURCES AS THEY CONTINUE TO DO EXPLICIT STANDARDS BASED INSTRUCTION.
WE ALSO WANT TO SUPPORT OUR SOCIAL STUDIES THROUGH ACADEMIC COMPETITIONS.
AS YOU KNOW, WE CURRENTLY HAVE MODEL UNITED NATIONS.
YOU THINK GOVERNMENT AND ACADEMIC, WORLD-CLASS ALL WONDERFUL COMPETITIONS.
WE WANT TO OFFER THAT TO MORE STUDENTS.
SO WE'RE LOOKING AT EXPANDING THAT TO ALL OF OUR SCHOOLS, HIGH SCHOOLS THIS YEAR, AND INCLUDING SOME OF OUR MIDDLE SCHOOLS.
WE ALSO PLAN TO ADD NATIONAL HISTORY DAY AS AN OPTION FOR OUR ADVANCED EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS AND ALL MIDDLE SCHOOLS, ACADEMIC
[01:25:01]
ARTS, AS YOU ALL KNOW, BY NOW, MY HEART IS INVESTED IN OUR ARTS PROGRAM.WE ARE GOING TO CONTINUE TO GROW IT THIS YEAR.
WE ARE FOCUSING ON EFFECTIVE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT THIS WEEK, OR IN SUMMER INSTITUTE.
WE ARE PROVIDING 12 SESSIONS THROUGH OUR KENNEDY CENTER PARTNER.
ON AUGUST 10TH, WE ARE PROVIDING FOUR SESSIONS THAT ARE PERFORMANCE ARTS BASED THROUGH ARTS.
NOW, GEORGIA, WE WILL CONTINUE THAT THROUGHOUT THE YEAR, AND WE'LL BE WORKING WITH OUR KENNEDY CENTER ON A NEW GRANT THAT WE HAVE FOCUSED ON PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT THAT WAS WRITTEN BY THE KENNEDY CENTER.
THEY'RE JUST HELPING US OUT WITH IT.
ARTS ARE VERY DIVERSE AND THEY'RE MASSIVE.
AND EVEN WITH THE ADDITION OF CHRIS CRAB, AS MY COORDINATOR IN THIS AREA, THE SCOPE IS WIDE.
WE HAVE BEGUN THE PROCESS OF ENCOURAGING OUR TEACHERS TO STEP UP AS LEADERS I'VE DEVELOPED ROUND TABLE SESSIONS FOR EVERY AREA OF OUR ARTS.
OUR TEACHERS WILL, SO WE WILL BE GETTING THEIR VOICE, THEIR TALENTS AND THEIR SKILLS MOVING FORWARD, SECONDARY SCHOOLS, PERSONAL FINANCE, WITH THE ADDITION OF THE LEGISLATIVE FOCUS GOING FORWARD WITH OUR NINTH GRADERS IN 26, 27, WE ARE PLANNING TO GET AHEAD OF THAT.
WE WROTE THIS SUMMER INTO OUR GOVERNMENT, ECON CLASSES, CURRENT STANDARDS AROUND PERSONAL FINANCE, PERSONAL FINANCE CURRICULUM HAS TO BE IN PLACE BEFORE THAT 26, 27.
WE DO NOT WANT TO WAIT TO BE JUST COMPLIANT.
WE WANT TO BE INNOVATIVE AND WE WANT TO PROVIDE OUR STUDENTS WITH AS IMPORTANT CURRICULUM.
NOW I'M GOING TO SKIP OVER SCHOOL RENEWAL PLANS PRETTY QUICKLY CAUSE MY PARTNER, MR. FLOWERS HANDLED THAT PRETTY WELL, BUT I WILL BE SUPPORTING OUR SECONDARY SCHOOLS MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL THROUGH THAT PROCESS THIS YEAR, THAT BRINGS US TO EOC AND ACCUPLACER.
AND OF COURSE, EXAMS AND ACCUPLACER EXAMS, WHICH ARE TAKEN FOR ENTRY INTO DUAL ENROLLMENT ARE GOING TO BE A FOCUS THIS YEAR.
OUR GOAL IS TO STRENGTHEN THOSE PROGRAMS SO THAT WE CAN GET HIGHER SCORES FROM OUR STUDENTS.
WE PLAN TO HAVE EXAM PRACTICE TESTS IN PLACE FOR OUR STUDENTS.
AND WE'RE LOOKING AT SOME ONLINE OPTIONS FOR GIVING THEM A WAY TO PRACTICE FOR THE PRACTICE EXAM.
FINALLY, MULTI-TIERED SUPPORT SYSTEMS. THIS IS A COLLABORATIVE EFFORT BETWEEN INSTRUCTIONAL SERVICE, WHERE THE ACADEMIC SIDE AND SUPPORT SERVICES THROUGH DR.
SKAGGS AND I HAD DEVELOPED A NEW BUFORD COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT GUIDE FOR MTSS AND OUR FOCUS WILL BE ROLLED OUT TO TEACHERS VERY SHORTLY, DR.
SKAGGS AND I ARE ALSO WORKING ON TRAINING MODULES THAT TEACHERS CAN TAKE ONLINE AND WILL RECEIVE CREDIT FOR.
WE ARE FOCUSING FIRST AND INITIALLY ON TIER ONE INSTRUCTION, BUT WE'RE DEFINITELY LOOKING AT THAT TIER TWO AND TIER THREE INSTRUCTION.
WE'RE ALSO LOOKING TO UPDATE THE CURRENT EVIDENCE-BASED STRATEGIES THAT ARE LISTED IN AND RICH.
WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE HAVE STRONG STRATEGIES FOR OUR TEACHERS TO PUT IN PLACE AS THEY DEVELOP PLANS FOR OUR STUDENTS.
JUST WANT TO THANK YOU AGAIN FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO SHARE THE WORK GOOD EVENING, AS YOU ALL SEE IT, IT'S SUCH A GREAT COLLABORATIVE EFFORT BETWEEN THE DEPARTMENTS AND INSTRUCTION.
WHEN IT COMES TO WORKING WITH STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES, IT CAN'T BE DONE IN ISOLATION.
AND AS THAT RODRIGUEZ SAID TO THE GROUP THIS MORNING, ALL MEANS ALL.
SO EDUCATION HAS ADOPTED THE THEME OF HATS, HELPING ALL TO SET SEED, AND THAT CAN ONLY BE DONE WITH OUR COLLABORATION AND A FOCUS ON CURRICULUM, ESPECIALLY SPECIAL EDUCATION CURRICULUM AND WITH THE PANDEMIC AND COMING OUT OF THAT AND GET IN MY PERFORMANCE DATA FROM THE STATE.
WE HAVE A LONG WAY TO GO INTO, TO GET CAUGHT UP WITH THE LEARNING LOSS AND CONTINUE TO GROW OUR STUDENTS.
SO WITH THAT, I'M EXCITED TO SAY THAT WE HAVE HIRED TWO, UM, SPECIAL EDUCATION CURRICULUM SPECIALISTS WHOSE FOCUS IS GOING TO BE PRIMARILY TO SUPPORT OUR SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHERS IN THE CLASSROOM, NOT SIT IN IEP MEETINGS, NOT WRITE IEP, BUT DELWIN MODEL SET UP LEARNING LABS AND ALL OF THAT.
AND MS SURFACE SYSTEM, THEY ELABORATE A LITTLE BIT ON WHAT THAT WILL LOOK LIKE, BUT REALLY, REALLY EXCITED ABOUT HAVING THOSE THERE.
UM, LAURA, BRUCE AND MELANIE JENKINS, WHITES WHO BOTH ARE COMING TO US FROM SIMILAR ROLES IN THE PREVIOUS SCHOOL DISTRICT.
[01:30:01]
COMING WITH LOTS OF EXPERIENCES, UM, AS WELL TO SUPPORT OUR STUDENTS.SO I'M REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THAT AND SEEING WHAT IS GOING TO DO FOR OUR STUDENTS AS WE CONTINUE TO MOVE THAT, UM, UM, TARGET FOR GREAT SUCCESS WITH OUR STUDENTS.
SO I'M GOING TO HAVE CARLENE ELABORATE A LITTLE BIT ABOUT OUR, ONE OF OUR FOCUS AREAS, WHICH IS PROFESSIONAL KNOWLEDGE AND GROWTH.
I DO STRONGLY BELIEVE THAT IF WE CONTINUE TO GROW AND MENTOR OUR TEACHERS AND WORK WITH THEM, THAT WE WILL GET THE STUDENT OUTCOMES THAT WE HAVE IN OUR IEP WILL BE, UM, COMPLIANT.
AND OUR KIDS WILL CONTINUE TO REACH HIGH HEIGHTS, UM, AND EXPECTATIONS ALONG WITH WORKING WITH THE TEACHERS ON SETTING THOSE HIGH EXPECTATIONS, BOTH IN THE INTENSIVE SUPPORT CLASSROOMS AND THE SUPPLEMENTAL CLASSROOM AS WELL.
SO THE SURFACE IS GOING TO EXPLAIN A LITTLE BIT ABOUT OUR PILLAR FOUR, WHICH IS PROFESSIONAL KNOWLEDGE AND GROWTH.
WHITE, AS YOU KNOW, OUR STUDENTS LEARN DIFFERENTLY AND SO DO ADULTS.
SO WE'RE REALLY THRILLED WITH THE ADDITION OF THOSE TWO SPECIAL EDUCATION INSTRUCTIONAL SPECIALISTS, BUT WE'RE ALSO EQUALLY AS EXCITED ABOUT THE FACT THAT WE'VE EXPANDED OUR MODELS FOR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND GROWTH AND LEARNING FOR NOT ONLY TEACHERS, BUT PARAPROFESSIONALS AND OUR RELATED SERVICE STAFF.
WE OPEN NEXT WEDNESDAY, UH, AUGUST 10TH WITH ALMOST 450 SPECIAL EDUCATORS.
SO THAT'LL BE IT BUFORD HIGH SCHOOL AT THE PERFORMING ARTS CENTER.
SO WE'RE EXCITED, UM, AS PART OF THE GROWTH AND LEARNING PROCESS IN THESE 12 MODELS, DR.
WEITZ TALKED A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE INSTRUCTIONAL SPECIALISTS AND THE, THE LESSON MODELING.
WE SURVEYED ALL OF THE STAFF AT THE END OF LAST SCHOOL YEAR.
AND SO WE SPECIFICALLY SAID, WHAT'S YOUR LEARNING STYLE? HOW DO YOU LEARN MANY OF THE TEACHERS WE KNEW, BUT WE STILL FELT IT WAS IMPORTANT TO GAIN THEIR INVALUABLE FEEDBACK.
WE WERE HAPPY TO KNOW THAT OUR, THE COURSE THAT WE WERE TARGETING WAS VERY MUCH IN ALIGNMENT WITH THE FEEDBACK WE RECEIVED SO THEY CAN SEE ACTUALLY ANOTHER PERSPECTIVE ANOTHER TEACHER, IF YOU WILL WORK ALONGSIDE THEM AND SHOW THEM WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE, GIVE THEM AN OPPORTUNITY TO PRACTICE IN A NON-THREATENING MANNER.
AND THEN THEY CAN EVEN CO-TEACH IT TOGETHER WITH THE STUDENTS.
IF THAT'S THE TEACHER'S DESIRE, WE'RE REALLY SUPER EXCITED.
I KNOW I'M SAYING EXCITED A LOT, BUT WE'RE VERY PASSIONATE ABOUT OUR WORK IS DEMONSTRATION CLASSROOMS. NOT ONLY DO WE HAVE TO GROW OUR PROFESSIONALS, BUT WE NEED TO RETAIN THEM IN DEMONSTRATION CLASSROOMS CAN DO JUST THAT THEY NOT ONLY BUILD CAPACITY WITH OUR FOLKS, BUT THEY ALSO BUILD THE MORALE.
HOW AWESOME IS IT TO SAY, WE'D LIKE TO USE YOUR CLASSROOM AND WE'D LIKE YOU TO LEAD THIS CHARGE.
IF YOU'RE WILLING TO SHOW OTHER COLLEAGUES WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE.
SO WE'RE ESTABLISHING SITES IN THE BUFORD, BLUFFTON AND HILTON HEAD AREAS.
AND THEN WHAT'LL HAPPEN IS AFTER OUR FORMAL PD, AFTER THEY'VE HAD COACHING TIME WITH OUR INSTRUCTIONAL SPECIALISTS, WE'LL INVITE TEACHERS INTO THEIR CLASSROOM PROBABLY TWO WEEKS OR SO AFTER IT HAPPENS.
WHEN THEY'VE HAD TIME TO WRESTLE WITH THE CONCEPTS, THEY'VE HAD TIME TO PUT IT INTO PRACTICE IN THEIR OWN ROOMS, THEN THEY CAN GO SEE IT AGAIN AND WORK IN COLLABORATION, GO BACK, BUILD THEIR CONFIDENCE, BUILD THE MORALE, COME BACK AGAIN.
WE HOPE TO GROW THAT POOL OF EXPERTS SO THAT ALL OF OUR SPECIAL EDUCATORS, YOU KNOW, JUST HAVE THAT BOOST AND THAT THEY THEN CAN EMPOWER SOMEONE ELSE.
SOMETHING ELSE WE'RE EXCITED ABOUT WOULD BE THE TRAIN, THE TRAINER MODEL.
SO EVERYONE ON THE SPECIAL EDUCATION LEADERSHIP TEAM IS BEING TRAINED SPECIFICALLY IN OUR SPECIALIZED CURRICULUM.
SO THEN THEY TOO CAN HAVE A HAND OUT THERE IN THE COACHING LEARNING SPOTLIGHTS OR ANOTHER FOCUS OF OUR DEPARTMENT.
SO THROUGH THE SURVEYING, THROUGH OUR CURRICULUM AUDITS, THROUGH THE AUDITING OF THE IDPS, WE'LL HAVE TARGETED SESSIONS WHERE IT'S NOT JUST A SITTING GET IT'S A COME AND LEARN, AND THEN IT'S A TAKEAWAY AND IT'S A BRING BACK.
SO HOPEFULLY YOU'RE SEEING THAT THEME OF THAT.
WE'RE GOING TO CONTINUE TO SUPPORT AND IT'S NOT JUST GOING TO BE A ONE-TIME ONLY.
AND THEN THE LAST TWO THAT WE'RE GOING TO MENTION IS THAT WE DO HAVE A GOOGLE CLASSROOM.
IT'S ACTIVE, IT'S LIVE TEACHERS ACTUALLY FILL IT AND THE LEADERSHIP TEAM FEELS IT.
SO THEREFORE IT'S JUST ANOTHER MODEL OF PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT.
SO YOU CAN SEE, WE HAVE A LOT GOING ON AND I HOPE YOU WILL GET TO COME IN AND EXPERIENCE SOME OF THOSE AS THE YEAR GOES BY AS WELL.
SO IF WE COULD PAY ATTENTION TO THE SCREEN, OUR NEXT PRESENTER IS DIANA DRUM SKI.
I'M GOING TO ASK MS. DRUM SKI TO DO A QUICK SURVEY OF HER POINTS ON SCREEN.
SO IF YOU COULD JUST GO BRIEFLY DIANA'S BECAUSE I WANT TO RESPECT THE REMAINING AMOUNT OF TIME THAT WE HAVE.
I DO APPRECIATE IT FOR EVERYONE TO KNOW.
SHE PRESENTED THIS MORNING WITH THE STATE.
[01:35:01]
TO GO UP TO LEXINGTON FOR A CONFERENCE.SHE'LL BE BACK ACTUALLY IN THE DISTRICT TOMORROW AS WELL.
I HAVE A MEETING WITH THE, UH, TITLE THREE DEPARTMENT HERE IS THE STATE DEPARTMENT COORDINATORS MEETING.
SO WE'RE MEETING UP HERE FOR TOMORROW MORNING.
I JUST WANTED TO START MY PRESENTATION BY SAYING ALL OF THE INFORMATION I'M SHARING WITH YOU ABOUT THE MULTILINGUAL LEARNER PROGRAM IS REALLY WHAT WE DO FOR ALL STUDENTS, BUT IN SPECIFIC, IN SPECIFIC PURPOSE TO ASSIST OUR MLS, BUT EVERYTHING THAT OUR COLLEAGUES HAVE SAID, MR. FLOWERS, MS. MARIE, UM, EVERYBODY, WE DO THIS FOR ALL OUR STUDENTS TO HELP THEM WITH THEIR EDUCATIONAL JOURNEY.
SO I'LL START WITH DATA, THE NATIONAL AND STATE MULTILINGUAL LEARNER DATA, THE US CENSUS BUREAU COLLECT LANGUAGE DATA ANNUALLY THROUGH THE A C S THE AMERICAN COMMUNITY SURVEY.
AND THIS YEAR WE WERE JUST TOLD LAST WEEK THAT 63 MILLION BILINGUAL INDIVIDUALS ARE IN OUR NATION.
AS WE SPEAK AS RECOGNIZED BY THE FEDERAL LAW GUIDELINES OF SOUTH AND SOUTH CAROLINA, WE HAVE GROWN FROM 43,000 TO 47,718 BILINGUAL INDIVIDUALS IN OUR STATE.
CURRENTLY EVERY SCHOOL IN SOUTH CAROLINA HAS MULTILINGUAL LEARNERS GOALS FOR OUR 2223 YEAR IN THE INTERESTS OF ACCOUNTABILITY FOR SOUTH CAROLINA REPORT CARD.
WE SEE A TREND ON THAT IS INCREASING IN TERMS OF ML SHOWING GROWTH GOING FORWARD THIS YEAR, OUR GOAL IS TO FURTHER IMPROVE THOSE SCORES IN ORDER TO MEET THE STATE CRITERIA ON ACCESS FOR ELLS.
AND AS MS. KAREN MCKENZIE MENTIONED OUR SEAL OF BI-LITERACY AND SUPPORTING RMLS TO BE PROUD OF THEIR FIRST LANGUAGE, AS WELL AS DEMONSTRATE THEIR PROFICIENCY IN ENGLISH.
IF I ATTENDING THAT TO LIVE BY LITERACY THROUGH OPERATIONS ARE WELCOME.
CENTERS HAVE INCREASED TO FIVE DAYS A WEEK.
THEY ARE OPEN ON MONDAY AND WEDNESDAY AT THE BUFORD COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICTS OFFICE.
AND ON TUESDAYS, THURSDAYS AND FRIDAYS AT THE BLUFFTON CAMPUS, WE HAVE INCREASED STAFF TO TWO FULL-TIME.
I'M A BILINGUAL LIAISON THERE, AS WELL AS A PROFESSIONAL TEACHERS SCREENING FOR PURPOSES OF IDENTIFYING MLS.
IT IS NO LONGER AN APPOINTMENT.
IT IS A FIRST COME FIRST SERVE BASIS, AND WE ARE ALREADY LOOKING INTO HOW TO IMPROVE THAT FOR NEXT YEAR, BECAUSE IT HAS BEEN VERY BUSY THIS YEAR.
EVERYONE, OUR BILINGUAL LIAISONS WERE TRAINED TO BE INTERPRETERS FOR SPECIAL EDUCATION, PAPERWORK, AND IEP TO BEING COMPLIANT WITH THE STATE DEPARTMENT, DR.
I'VE HAD EXTENSIVE CONVERSATIONS ABOUT THAT AS LONG AS WELL AS CARLENE AND HER TEAM.
SO WE'VE COLLABORATED ON THAT.
WE'VE ALSO COLLABORATE ON IMPROVING REGISTRATION PROCESSES AT OUR WELCOME CENTERS WITH DR.
WE HAVE ALSO LOOKED INTO OUR TRANSLATION SERVICES AND IMPROVING THOSE, WHICH WE ALREADY HAVE SERVICES IN OUR DISTRICT, BUT IMPROVING THE CAPACITY OF OUR BILINGUAL LIAISONS WITH THEIR TRANSLATION IN INSTRUCTION.
SO DIANA, IF YOU COULD DO ME DIANA, IF YOU COULD DO ME A QUICK FAVOR, JUST CAN YOU BRIEFLY DISCUSS THE PILOT THAT YOU'RE DOING WITH THE PUSH IN MODEL THIS COMING YEAR? SO I COULD TURN THE PAGE TO CTE.
SO WE WILL GO RIGHT ONTO ON CUE.
SO WE'RE GOING TO PILOT IN AN EFFORT TO SUPPORT THE LITERACY FOR ALL STUDENTS.
WE'RE GOING TO LAUNCH A COLLABORATIVE TEACHING PILOT THIS YEAR.
FIVE SCHOOLS WILL BE A PART OF THAT, OF THIS COHORT.
EACH SCHOOL SITE ADMINISTRATION WILL BE ASKED TO PARTICIPATE AND COMMIT TO THE PILOTING OF THIS CO-TEACHING MODEL FOR A FULL YEAR, DR.
ANDREA HAUNTING, SPELLED IN DR.
MARIA DOVE, WHO ARE AUTHORS CURRENTLY ADVISING THE SOUTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION IN A CO-TEACHING MODEL WILL BE THE LEAD FOR OUR DISTRICT.
WE ARE IN COMMUNICATION WITH THEM AND THEY WILL COME SPEAK TO OUR LEADERSHIP AS WELL AS OFFER AND PRESENT AND GUIDE OUR TEACHERS THAT ARE CHOSEN FOR THIS PILOT TO GUIDE THEM AND OFFERED PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT.
ANYTHING THAT WE NEED IN ORDER FOR THIS PILOT TO BE SUCCESSFUL.
AND I'D LIKE TO BRING FORWARD, MRS. MRS. GILBERT AND RALPH ITALI, BECAUSE CTE TIES ALL OF THIS TOGETHER.
COME ON DOWN MR. CHAIRMAN AND BOARD MEMBERS.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE OPPORTUNITY.
AND AS YOU'VE HEARD THE HARD WORK OF OUR COLLEAGUES, YOU'RE CORRECT THAT DR.
STRATUS AND THAT, UH, THEY PERFORM ON THE, OR HELP OUR STUDENTS TO MOVE THE NEEDLE FOR OUR ACADEMIC ATTAINMENT AND THEN CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION TAKES IT TO THAT NEXT LEVEL TO MAKE SURE THEIR COLLEGE AND CAREER PREPARE.
SO JUST A FEW UPDATES OF SOME EXCITING THINGS.
SO FOR A, WE WANT TO ALWAYS ALIGN WITH STATE INITIATIVES AND WE HAVE BEEN BUILDING UPON OUR STUDENTS WHO AREN'T INDUSTRY CERTIFICATIONS.
[01:40:01]
SO NOW THERE IS A FOCUS ON STACKABLE CREDENTIALING.THE VALUE OF THAT IS THIS OFFERING OUR STUDENTS AN OPPORTUNITY TO BETTER MARKET THEMSELVES.
AS THEY MOVE INTO THEIR FIELD.
AFTER GRADUATION, WE WILL BE A, THIS WILL BE FUNDED THROUGH CTE STATE FUNDS, AND WE HAVE ALREADY A PROCESS IN PLACE, AND WE ARE GOING TO BE OFFERING AN IC THREE DIGITAL LITERACY, UH, MULTI-TIERED CERTIFICATION.
THERE'LL BE THREE LEVELS THAT STUDENTS CAN START IN THE NINTH GRADE AND THERE'LL BE ABLE TO ATTEMPT, UH, BY THE END OF THEIR SENIOR YEAR.
AND AGAIN, THIS WILL ALIGN WITH OUR COMPUTER SCIENCE STANDARDS.
ANOTHER AREA THAT WE WILL SEEK INPUT IS WITH OUR OUTREACH, WITH BUSINESS AND COMMUNITY.
WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WHAT OUR STUDENTS ARE LEARNING AND EARNING IN OUR CTE CLASSES, ALIGNED WITH BUSINESS AND INDUSTRY NEEDS.
SO BEFORE MEMORIAL IS A MAJOR INITIATIVE THAT WE WILL CONTINUE TO EXPAND THIS YEAR.
THEY HAVE AN EXCELLENT PROGRAM THEY'VE DEVELOPED CALLED PATH PEOPLE ACHIEVING THEIR HIGHEST, AND THEY ARE VERY WELCOMING OF OUR HIGH SCHOOL, HEALTH SCIENCES, AND SPORTS MEDICINE STUDENTS, AS WELL AS WHEN OUR STUDENTS GRADUATE.
THERE ARE MULTIPLE PATHWAYS THAT THEY WILL OFFER FOR THEIR STUDENTS AND CURRENT EMPLOYEES TO HELP PAY, UH, TO ADVANCE THEIR CAREERS AS THEY WORK THERE.
AND WE ALSO WORKING WITH HEALTHCARE ORGANIZATIONS SOUTH OF THE ABROAD TO DUPLICATE THESE EFFORTS.
ANOTHER GREAT COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAM FOR THIS YEAR IS THROUGH BUSINESS ATTRACT.
UH, WE HAVE SOME, SEVERAL COMMUNITY LEADERS THAT ARE DOING AN, UH, A HUGE, UH, OUTREACH OF MAINLY TARGETING PARENTS TO LET THEM KNOW WHAT TYPE OF RESOURCES AND JOBS THAT WE HAVE IN THE COMMUNITY.
SO WE WILL BE WORKING WITH THEM AND MR. DALLAS CARLTON, CARLTON DALLAS WITH THAT, UM, ALSO, UH, WE CONTINUE TO PARTNER WITH OUR CYBER AND IT PARTNERSHIPS, UH, THROUGH OUR MED TECH SEVEN GRANT.
UM, WE'RE, WE'RE PULLING ALL THIS TOGETHER, UH, ON AUGUST THE 10TH, DR.
MICHAEL REIKI, AND I ARE FACILITATING A JOINT PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AT THE CULINARY INSTITUTE.
UH, EVERYONE IS WELCOME TO JOIN US.
IT'LL BE A DAY OF WORKING WITH OUR TEACHERS ON DIFFERENT INSTRUCTION.
OUR FOCUS THIS YEAR IS GOING BEYOND THE CT CONTENT TO IMPROVE OVERALL INSTRUCTION, TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
OUR NEW CT STATE DIRECTOR, UM, DR.
QUINCY MOORE WILL BE JOINING US FOR OUR LUNCH AND LEARN.
AND THEN WE'RE GOING TO CONTINUE THIS THROUGH A MORE TARGETED PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT THROUGHOUT THE SCHOOL YEAR WITH VIRTUAL SESSIONS.
AND WE'RE GOING TO USE OUR CTE TEACHERS OF THE YEAR.
UH, IT, AS YOU KNOW, WE'VE HAD FOR THE PAST TWO TO THREE YEARS, EXCELLENT REPRESENTATION.
SO WE WANT TO TAP INTO THEIR EXPERTISE AND THEY WILL BE WORKING WITH US TO HELP FACILITATE THESE SESSIONS, UH, TO WORK WITH OUR NEW AND RETURNING TEACHERS ALONG THOSE LINES.
AS FAR AS OPTIONS, WE'RE EXCITED TO BRING TO YOU, UH, AN INCREASED FOCUS ON HONORS LEVEL WORK FOR SOME OF OUR CT COURSES, AS WELL AS OUR JUNIOR J ROTC PROGRAMS. UH, THERE IS A PROCESS INVOLVED.
THEY HAVE TO FOLLOW A SOUTH CAROLINA HONORS FRAMEWORK, AND THEN IT'LL GO TO THE ACADEMIC COMMITTEE FOR FURTHER REVIEW AND APPROVAL.
SO WE LOOK FORWARD TO BRINGING SEVERAL OF THOSE COURSES TO YOU.
AND THEN, UH, LASTLY, AS FAR AS PROGRAMS GO, WE HAVE SOME GREAT NEWS.
IT IS OFFICIAL THAT, UH, MAY RIVER HIGH SCHOOL HAS BEEN APPROVED FOR AN AIR FORCE GERO TC PROGRAM.
UH, SHOUT OUT TO MR. BORNE AND HIS TEAM, AS WELL AS MR. RALPH
UH, IT WILL START OUT THIS YEAR WITH, UH, MR. BARNHART.
HE'LL BE ABLE TO HIRE A SENIOR MILITARY INSTRUCTOR IN SPRING, THAT'LL START THE PLANNING PROCESS, AND THEN STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO ENROLL STARTING IN THE FALL FOR 2023.
SO, UH, WE WANT TO THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT.
THE ADDING THE CAREER DEVELOPMENT FACILITATORS AGAIN, IS GOING TO HELP US TO INCREASE OUR OUTREACH REACHES.
WE PARTNER WITH OUR STUDENT SERVICES.
SO WE'RE GOING TO CONTINUE TO PRODUCE A STUDENTS GRADUATES THAT NOT ONLY CAN READ AND WRITE, BUT ALSO ARE GOING TOWARD A VIABLE CAREER.
SO BOARD MEMBERS, WE WANT TO THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME AND THE OPPORTUNITY TO HIGHLIGHT THE WORK AND THE SERVICES THAT OUR TEACHERS RECEIVE AND THE TEACHING AND LEARNING THAT OUR STUDENTS RECEIVE.
THANK YOU FOR THE OPPORTUNITY.
I JUST HAVE A QUESTION ON MS. HUTCHISON, HOW IS OUR WORKING RELATIONSHIP WITH HEADSTOCK? WE ARE WORKING WITH HEADSTART.
UM, THEY ARE STILL LOCATED IN THE SAME BUILDING.
HELEN, EARLY LEARNING CENTER DAVIS, EARLY LEARNING CENTER, UM, BUFORD
[01:45:01]
ELEMENTARY AND SHANKLIN.UM, SO, UH, MR. LEWIS AND I, WHICH IS THE HEADSTART DIRECTOR, HE AND I HAVE TALKED, UM, FREQUENTLY OVER THE LAST FEW WEEKS, TRYING TO COORDINATE, UH, GETTING THEIR TEACHERS BACK IN SCHOOL, UM, AND COORDINATING PD.
I KNOW THAT THE ST HELENA ROBERT AUDITING, I'M GOING TO TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE BUILDING AT ST.
HELENA EARLY LEARNING CENTER WAS PAINTED OVER THE SUMMER, ALONG WITH A NEW ROOF.
UM, SO I KNOW OUR PARTNERS ARE EXCITED TO HEAR ABOUT THAT IMPROVEMENT TO THE SCHOOL.
I DON'T HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, BUT I HAVE SOME COMMENTS.
UM, FIRST OF ALL, YOU'VE GOT A GREAT TEAM, GREAT KNOWLEDGE, GREAT TALENT.
UH, SKY'S THE LIMIT FOR YOU ALL.
AND SO WE'LL BE LOOKING FOR THAT IN THE FUTURE.
UH, I REALLY LIKED THE EMPHASIS ON PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR TEACHERS, BUT IN RICK STIG AND HIS LATEST BOOK, HE TALKS ABOUT PARENTAL DEVELOPMENT ABOUT, ESPECIALLY ABOUT FORMATIVE ASSESSMENTS AND WHAT THE GOALS AND STRATEGIES ARE.
AND I HOPE THAT YOU'RE LOOKING AT THAT BECAUSE SELLING IT TO THE KIDS IS ONE THING SELLING IT TO MOM AND DAD IS ANOTHER, AND THAT'S SOMETHING THAT THE TEACHERS ARE GOING TO HAVE TO GET OUT OUT AND GET AFTER.
UH, I READ, UH, JUST RECENTLY READ AN ARTICLE ABOUT PLAY-BASED KINDERGARTEN, AND THEY'RE SAYING, THAT'S THE WAY TO GO.
THAT'S, THAT'S WHAT SWEDEN AND A LOT OF OTHER COUNTRIES ARE DOING.
AND RESEARCH SHOWS THAT IT'S VERY, VERY EFFECTIVE.
IT SOUNDS, IT SOUNDS LIKE PLAYTIME, BUT IT'S MORE THAN THAT.
AND I THINK THAT'S SOMETHING THAT I'M REALLY ANXIOUS TO HEAR MORE ABOUT.
I AM OVERJOYED TO HEAR THE EMPHASIS ON WRITING FOR SECONDARY SCHOOLS.
I'M, I'M ANXIOUS TO SEE THE WRITING MATRIX ON, ON HOW YOU'RE GOING TO USE THAT.
UH, THE READING SCHOOL, READING SKILLS, EMPHASIS, GREAT STUFF.
MY CONSTITUENTS ARE GOING TO BE GLAD TO HEAR ABOUT YOUR EMPHASIS ON THE CONSTITUTION AND ON FINANCIAL LITERACY, BECAUSE I GET ASKED THAT ALL THE TIME, UH, BY CONSTITUENTS, MOST OF THEM ARE NOT PARENTS, BUT THEY'RE JUST CONCERNED PEOPLE IN THE COMMUNITY.
THE HONORS CTE PROGRAM, GREAT, GREAT INITIATIVE.
THAT'S THAT'S WELL IT'S NEEDED.
THAT GIVES THEM THAT KIND OF PRESTIGE TO MATCH THE HONORS PROGRAMS THAT WE HAVE IN THE REST OF THE SCHOOL.
UH, AND BOTTOM LINE, THANK YOU FOR AN EXCELLENT PRESENTATION.
AND I LOOK FORWARD TO HEARING AT THE END OF THIS SCHOOL YEAR, HOW YOU'VE ALL ACCOMPLISHED.
I TOO WANT TO THANK YOU FOR YOUR PRESENTATION.
I SAID THIS EARLIER TONIGHT, THE ATM IS STANDING UP THERE.
THE TALENT AND SKILLS AND THE PASSION THAT YOU BRING TO OUR DISTRICT IS, UM, I THINK PERSONALLY, I'M VERY THANKFUL FOR THAT.
UM, MR. FALLON, YOU TALKED ABOUT PERFORMANCE MATTERS AND FORMATIVE ASSESSMENTS THAT WE'RE GOING TO START USING.
THOSE ARE THE FORMATIVE ASSESSMENTS TEACHER CREATED AND ENTERED IN, OR ARE THEY, UM, PART OF THE PERFORMANCE MATTERS SOFTWARE? SO THE EASY ANSWER IS YES.
SO YES, UH, AS MR. FLOWERS MENTIONED, WE HAVE, WE HAVE TWO COMMON ASSESSMENTS THAT WERE WRITTEN OVER THE SUMMER.
SO ON AUGUST 10TH, WE'RE GOING TO START THE PROCESS OF HAVING SELECT INDIVIDUALS, BE ABLE TO THEN GO BACK TO THE SCHOOLS AND TRAIN ON CREATING ASSESSMENTS, NOT CREATING ITEMS. SO THEY HAVE AN ITEM BANK.
UH, WE'RE GONNA ALLOW OUR TEACHERS AND OUR COACHES AND OUR ADMINISTRATORS WORKING IN PLCS AND THEIR GROUPS, THEIR TEAMS TO PULL FROM ITEM BANKS AND CONSTRUCT ASSESSMENTS.
WE'RE NOT AT THE LEVEL OF ITEM WRITING.
THAT'S ANOTHER ITERATIVE GROWTH AND THE PROCESS TO BECOME COGNIZANT AND AWARE OF WRITING A NON-BIASED ITEM.
BUT IF YOU'RE PULLING FROM A REVIEWED ITEM BANK, THEY CAN SAY, WE'RE TEACHING THESE STANDARDS.
I WANT TO CREATE A SMALL FORM OF ASSESSMENT FOR MY CLASSROOM.
I'M GOING TO PULL TWO OR THREE ITEMS FROM AN ITEM BANK THAT ARE ASSIGNED WITH A STANDARD, AND I CAN GIVE THAT AND I CAN QUICKLY GET THE RESULTS.
I, I WAS CONCERNED IF WE WERE WRITING OUR OWN ASSESSMENTS, WHO'S MONITORING THEM TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY'RE REALLY MEASURING WHAT.
THANK YOU, MRS. ROBIN, JUST TO PICK ON UP AT THAT, THAT WOULD BE A TRAINING.
THAT'S GOING TO TAKE SOME TIME.
[01:50:01]
SESSION.SO WE'RE JUST GOING TO ACTUALLY START THAT THIS YEAR.
WE ARE NOT THERE TO HAVE THAT FULL RELEASE.
UM, WHERE DO I START? GOT A BUNCH OF NOTES HERE.
FIRST OF ALL, A FIVE, UM, THAT STOPPED WITH THE LAST YOUNG LADY.
THERE WERE FIVE, FIVE SCHOOLS.
MA'AM THE FIVE PILOT SCHOOLS ARE MAY RIVER HIGH SCHOOL.
THEY ARE BLUFFED IN MIDDLE SCHOOL.
IT IS MC RILEY ELEMENTARY, RED CEDAR ELEMENTARY.
I THINK THAT'S OUR THOUGHTS AND ROBERT SMALLS.
THAT'S OUR FIVE MAY RIVER, RED CEDAR, ROBERT SMALLS, BLUFFTON, MIDDLE AND RILEY.
NOW LET'S GO BACK TO TOP DANIEL FALLOW.
IS THERE E POWER SCHOOL E COLLECT? UM, THERE ANY WAY THAT WE CAN KNOW MONITOR OR HAVE ANY KIND OF ASSESSMENT ON HOW MANY PARENTS ARE REALLY? YEAH.
I LIKE THE WORD OPPORTUNITIES THERE.
SO THIS LAST SPRING, UH, THE STATE DEPARTMENT DEPLOYED THEIR STUDENT AND TEACHER STAR STUDENT AND PARENT SURVEYS FOR THE REPORT CARD VIA COLLECT.
SO OUR STUDENTS, UH, WE WERE REQUIRED TO HAVE 80%.
WE HAD FAR GREATER THAN 80% OF, UH, COMPLETION.
WE WERE IN THE UPPER NINETIES.
SO STUDENTS HAVE ACCESS TO THE PORTAL VERY WELL.
THEY KNOW THAT'S WHERE THEIR GRADES ARE.
UM, PARENTS, IT BECOMES VERY HARD FOR US TO MEASURE, BUT AS YOU'RE MENTIONING, AS WE START, THE FIRST THING WE'RE GOING TO TACKLE IS THE UPLOADING OF PROOF OF PRESIDENCY DOCUMENTATION.
IT GOES STRAIGHT TO THE STUDENT RECORD.
SO I CAN GO IN, I CAN CLICK ON TWO BUTTONS.
I CAN UPLOAD MY DOCUMENTATION.
WE'LL THEN KNOW WHO SUBMITTED VIA COLLECT.
BUT THE PROBLEM IS IF YOU ACCESS THROUGH A COMPUTER, A WEB BROWSER, I CAN TRACK THAT YOU'VE LOGGED IN.
IF YOU USE A PHONE THROUGH THE APPLICATION, IT DOES NOT LOG THAT YOU'VE LOGGED IN.
SO IF THE QUESTION COMES IN, HOW MANY PARENTS HAVE ACCESS TO PARENT PORTAL, OR HOW MANY ARE ACCESSING A MONTH? I CAN GIVE YOU WHO ACCESSES FROM A DESKTOP OR A PC OR A LAPTOP.
I CAN NOT FROM THE APP, BUT IF EVERYONE STARTS USING THAT FOR THE PROOF OF RESIDENCY DOCUMENTATION, WHICH UNDER STATE LAW, WE ARE REQUIRED TO COLLECT ANNUALLY.
AND THAT IS OUR COLLECTION TOOL.
I CAN TELL YOU HOW MANY FOLKS UPLOADED IT VIA THAT TOOL.
YES, IT IS BECAUSE THAT IS THE HEARTBEAT OF THEY CAN MONITOR THEIR STUDENT'S PERFORMANCE, ATTENDANCE AND EVERYTHING ELSE THROUGH THE PORTAL.
WE JUST DON'T HAVE A SOLID WAY OF TELLING YOU WHO'S ACCESSING IT FROM A PHONE.
WE ASKED ONE OF MY QUESTIONS ABOUT THE FIVE SCHOOLS.
UM, ALSO YOU MENTIONED, UM, I THINK IT WAS, UH, MS. GILBERT HEALTHCARE ORGANIZATION, SOUTH OF THE BROAD THAT YOU ARE BEGINNING TO WORK WITH WITH THE MEDICAL, WHAT HEALTH ORGANIZATION SOUTH OF THE BODY WORKING WITH.
YES, MA'AM THE TENANT HEALTH HAS REACHED OUT AS WELL AS SOME OF OUR DRAYER PHYSICAL THERAPY FOR OUR SPORTS MEDICINES PROGRAM, UH, IN HC OF BLUFFTON.
AND WE DEVELOPED OUR, UH, RELATIONSHIP, UH, WITH SPRINGER AND PORT ROYAL.
SO WE'RE EXCITED TO BE EXPANDED WITH SPRINGER AND, UM, BLUFFTON, HAVE YOU LOOKED AT ANY OF THE, UM, UH, ASSISTED LIVING FACILITIES, CNA TYPE THINGS? WE HAVE SO MANY OF THOSE SOUTH OF THE BROAD, SO NHC OF BLUFFTON, AND THEN WE'RE, WE'RE LOOKING TO EXPAND WITH, WITH SPRINGER, AND THEN WE HAVE SPRINGER, UH, PORT ROYAL.
UH, THOSE HAVE TO GO THROUGH APPROVAL PROCESS THROUGH THE STATE AS FAR AS, UH, THE NURSE AID PROGRAM, BUT WITH CERTAINLY WE'RE ALWAYS OPEN TO OTHERS, BUT THOSE ARE OUR MAIN ONES THAT WE WORK WITH WITH OUR NURSE AID PROGRAM.
CAUSE YOU MENTIONED THAT YOU ACTUALLY PAY FOR THEIR EDUCATION THROUGH THE PATH PROGRAM.
YOU KIND OF, SO BEEF AT MEMORIAL HOSPITAL IS EMBARKED ON AN EXCELLENT PROGRAM FOR THEIR EXISTING EMPLOYEES.
IF YOU ARE A, AND I DON'T WANT TO SPEAK FOR THE CEO, BUT IF YOU'RE A CUSTODIAN AND YOU WANT TO ADD, YOU WANT TO GO BACK TO SCHOOL WHILE YOU'RE WORKING
[01:55:01]
AND YOU WANT TO ADD ON SOME TYPE OF MEDICAL DEGREE, THEN THERE, THEY ARE GOING TO WORK WITH THEIR EMPLOYEES.AND AS, ALSO AS A RESULT OF THAT, THEY'RE GOING TO WORK WITH OUR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS AS WELL.
AND I THINK THIS COUNTY IS FACING A CRITICAL SHORTAGE OF NOTHING.
THAT'S WHY THEY'RE REACHING OUT TO GROW YOUR OWN, SO TO SPEAK.
UM, AND THEN I WOULD SHARE MY COLLEAGUES COMMENTS AND I, YOU KNOW, EVERYTHING WAS VERY IMPRESSIVE.
THE ONLY COMMENT I HAVE TO THE NEGATIVE IS JUST ONE THING THAT SEEMS MISSING FROM THIS LINEUP IS, UM, STEM AND TECHNOLOGY, UH, AS AN AREA, I DON'T KNOW IF THAT'S CALLING BACK VARSITY.
UM, BUT IT'S SOMETHING THAT JUST, I THINK, NEEDS TO BE SUCH AN EMPHASIS.
SO I WILL SHARE WITH YOU MRS. BELL, RIGHT? ONE REASON WE DIDN'T HAVE AN UPDATE ON, LET'S SAY ON THE SET GRANT AND HOW THAT IS BRANCHED OUT.
I NEED OTHER TOPICS FOR OTHER MEETINGS I'M BEING DIRECT WITH YOU.
I DON'T MEAN, BUT I DO NEED TO OTHER WHEN UPDATES THAT I CAN PROVIDE TO YOU AS A BOARD.
SO IF I PUT EVERYTHING OUT AT ONE TIME, THEN IT BECOMES A LITTLE MORE CHALLENGING.
THAT'S THE BEST ANSWER YOU'VE GIVEN ME.
CAUSE I DO THINK IT'S SO CRITICALLY IMPORTANT BECAUSE WE HAVE ACTUALLY BRANCHED OUT FROM M SAP TO OUR ADDITIONAL SCHOOLS THAT ARE OUTSIDE OF THE GRANT, BUT WE'RE SAVING THAT FOR ANOTHER OPPORTUNITY.
MA'AM BUT WE DO HAVE TRAINING GOING ON RIGHT NOW THROUGH PROJECT LAUNCH AND C SPACE.
SO YEAH, I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR ABOUT ALL THAT.
UM, I KNOW IN THE PAST SEVERAL YEARS AGO, UM, WE HAD NOT GOOD WORKING RELATIONSHIP WITH PARENTS NOW.
WONDERING WHAT HAS THAT IMPROVED? YES, I THINK SO.
UM, AS FAR AS THE PARENT CONCERNS AND COMPLAINTS THAT WE GET THAT HAS DECREASED SIGNIFICANTLY AND A LOT OF THAT CAME ABOUT BECAUSE OF SOME OF THE SHIFTS IN PROGRAMMING, UM, TO ADDRESS SOME OF THOSE NEEDS THAT THE PARENTS HAVE.
UM, AND OUR GOAL IS TO START TO PARTNER WITH SOME OF OUR STATE AGENCIES TO DO SOME MORE TRAINING, UM, WITH PARENTS AS WELL.
UH, FIRST I'LL START BY SAYING, I THANK YOU ALL FOR ALL THE WORK THAT YOU DO IN THIS DISTRICT, BECAUSE YOU DEFINITELY HELPED US DO MAKE THE DIFFERENCE IN THIS DISTRICT AND ALL THE THINGS THAT YOU DO.
UM, WOULD THAT BE SET? UM, ACTUALLY I GO BACK TO THAT DR.
UM, WHEN YOU WERE UP HERE FOR MS. SKULL, YOU MADE ME A, BASICALLY YOU INFORMED US THAT YOU HAD A POSITION THAT YOU GOTTA, YOU CREATED TWO POSITIONS FOR TWO PEOPLE TO GO OUT INTO BASICALLY THAT DAY.
ARE THEY WORKING WITH RESOURCE TEACHERS AND HELPING THEM AID AND, AND THEIR CLASSROOMS? YEAH.
SO THEY'LL BE WORKING WITH ALL THE INSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANTS AND THE CLASSROOM TEACHERS IN ALL THE SCHOOLS, BOTH AT ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY LEVELS.
NO, THERE ARE, UM, PARTNER IN THE, LIKE WITH ISD AND THE COACHES, WE'RE JUST GOING TO FOCUS ON SPECIAL EDUCATION, BUT THEY'RE NOT DIRECTORS, THEY'RE MORE IN A COACHING ROLE.
UM, AND WHERE THAT FUNDING COMING FROM, MOST OF THAT FUNDING IS FROM OUR IDEA FUNDS AND ONE OF THEM IS IN, UM, GENERAL FUND.
AND I'M, AND I'M, I'M JUST, I'M JUST ASKING BECAUSE, YOU KNOW, I MEAN, UM, MS. KIMBERLY, DID I SHOOT YOU A GREAT QUESTION? AND I'M GLAD TO HEAR THAT WE'VE, WE'VE HAD THAT, BUT, UM, HAVING THAT AS THAT AS VERY IMPORTANT, AND I WAS, YOU KNOW, JUST, JUST TRYING TO FIGURE OUT ALSO HOW ALSO COULD WE, WELL, THEY'RE JUST TRYING TO FIGURE OUT ALSO THEIR ROLE, NOT UNDERSTANDING WHAT THEY'RE DOING.
AND LIKE I SAID, WHILE THE QUESTION WAS, ONE OF THE QUESTION WAS WHAT, WHERE THE FUNDING WAS COMING FROM THIS.
I JUST DID THAT IN THAT DEPARTMENT.
I, IN THAT WE NEED MORE OF A, LIKE HOW WE HAVE PARENT LIAISONS.
I WAS JUST WONDERING, WOULD THAT BE SLIGHTLY A PART OF THEIR, OF THEIR POSITION AND WOULD THAT, IS THERE ROOM FOR THAT? SO NOT AT THIS TIME, THE APPARENTLY IS ON THE CONNECTIONS WITH THE PARENTS WILL HAPPEN MORE WITH THE SPECIAL EDUCATION COORDINATORS, BECAUSE THEY'RE THE ONES THAT ARE INTERACTING MORE WITH THE PARENTS IN THE MEETINGS AND STUFF.
SO WE'LL JUST CONTINUE TO GROW THAT.
ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE LOOK LIKE AS WE, UM, DECIDE ON PRIORITIES IS WHAT OUR SPECIAL EDUCATION INDICATORS.
WE HAVE A REPORT CARD, LIKE GENERAL ED AND WHAT THAT'S SAYING TO US.
AND WE USE THAT DATA TO DECIDE WHAT THE INITIATIVES WILL BE, UM, EACH YEAR.
UM, SO RIGHT NOW WITH OUR PARENTS SURVEYS THAT GO OUT AND INDICATED, THAT COMES ABOUT PRETTY HIGH WITH PARENTS SATISFACTION AS WELL.
AND THEN LASTLY, I JUST SAID, WELL, JUST GET OVER THAT, BUT YOU HAVE MY SOAPBOX.
AND THAT WAS ANOTHER REASON WHY I SAYS, BECAUSE I JUST KNOW THAT WHAT I FEEL AND IT'S LISTENING TO PARENTS THAT, THAT WE DEFINITELY NEED MORE COORDINATORS IN THE DISTRICT.
SO I WAS JUST KINDA SHOCKED THAT YOU CREATED THOSE TWO POSITIONS, ONE OF THE COORDINATORS THAT WE HAVE NOT KIND OF SPREAD KIND OF, YOU KNOW, WHAT THE COMMUNITY DEFINITELY HAS BEEN EXPRESSED, THAT THEY FEEL KIND OF, THAT, THAT THEY ARE SPREAD THIN.
SO I WAS SHOCKED THAT YOU BROUGHT THOSE TWO NEW POSITIONS UP BECAUSE I'M THE SAME WAY, HOW I FEEL THAT HOW WE, WE, UH, MADE MORE PETITION FOR MORE GUYS, COUNSELORS.
[02:00:01]
THAT WE DEFINITELY NEED MORE COLOR, MORE COLOR, MORE COORDINATORS IN, IN THAT, IN THE SPED DEPARTMENT.SO THAT, THAT CAN HELP US MAKE SURE THAT WE, THAT WE'RE GIVING EACH AND EVERY KID, THE OPPORTUNITY THAT IT NEEDED, WE'RE PUTTING THE EMPHASIS AND THE FOCUS ON THEM SO THEY CAN GROW AND BE PROFESSIONAL, UM, CITIZENS IN THIS COUNTRY AND IN THIS TOWN.
I JUST WANT TO SAY, LISTEN, I APPRECIATE YOUR PASSION, HOW YOU SPEAK, HOW YOU ARE.
ASSURANCE WHEN I SEE YOU, WHEN I SEE YOU IN THE SCHOOLS, I DEFINITELY, I DO UNDERSTAND YOUR WORK AND I APPRECIATE WHAT YOU DO.
I REALLY, I REALLY, I REALLY APPRECIATE IT.
I LOVE HOW YOU'RE LIKE WITH THE KIDS AS WELL.
UM, I, IN TERMS OF MRS. HUTCHINSON, UM, I, UH, MY, MY, MY, UH, I WAS GOING TO GO BACK TO THE COMMENT THAT MR. CAMPBELL SAID, AND YOU'VE ALREADY ANSWERED IT.
AND I JUST WANTED TO ADD TO THAT BECAUSE YOU ALREADY ASKED THAT QUESTION.
I'M JUST HOPING THAT IN, IN THE, IN THE FUTURE THAT WE CAN, YOU KNOW, FIGURE OUT HOW WE CAN INTERPRET IN TERMS OF HEADSTART, HOW WE CAN HAVE SOMETHING TO BRING MORE CAREER COMRADERY AMONGST THE AGENCY AND THE, AND THE DISTRICT, JUST BECAUSE OF THE FACT THAT BOUNDARIES DO UTILIZE THE, THE BUILDING.
BUT I JUST HAD THE, IN THE END OF THE TRANSFERRING OF STUDENT FROM THEIR PROGRAM TO OUR PROGRAM, YOU KNOW, THE SAME WAY, HOW WE HEAR ABOUT, UH, BRIDGES, I MEAN, NOT BRIDGES, BUT, UM, UM, W THE OTHER BOY, THE OVER IN SHELL POINT, THOSE TO, UM, REVIEW THE SAME WAY, HOW WE HAVE A RELATIONSHIP RIVER.
WE GET TO HEAR THINGS FROM THINGS FROM RIVER AND RIVERVIEW COMES BEFORE OUR BOARD.
I THINK IT'D BE AWESOME JUST TO HAVE THEM TO COME BEFORE OUR BOARD SO THAT WE CAN UNDERSTAND AND DIGEST AND PROCESS AND UNDERSTAND WHAT THEY'RE DOING AS A BOARD.
UM, I JUST HAVE ONE MORE QUESTION FOR, UM, MR. CHOMSKY.
I DON'T KNOW IF I PRONOUNCED YOUR NAME, RIGHT.
THE WELCOME CENTERS ARE IN BUFORD AND, UM, BLUFFTON AND I KNOW HILTON HEAD HAS QUITE A LARGE POPULATION OF MULTILINGUALS.
DO WE HAVE ANY WAY THAT WE HELP TRANSPORT THEM TO BLUFFTON, OR IS THERE ANYTHING TO, UM, HELP WITH THAT POPULATION? DIANA, DO YOU WANT TO BRIDGE CURRENTLY? WE DO NOT HAVE A PLAN FOR TRANSPORTATION.
HOWEVER, EVERY SCHOOL IN HILTON HEAD HAS ONE OR MORE BILINGUAL LIAISONS TO ASSIST IN THE REGISTRATION PROCESS AND FAMILIES CAN GO TO THE SCHOOL SITES.
THEY DO NOT HAVE TO GO TO THE WELCOME CENTER.
THAT'S USUALLY MORE OF OUR NEWCOMER STUDENTS THAT REALLY TRULY NEED TRANSPORT, TRANSLATIONS, ET CETERA.
BUT THAT IS SOMETHING WE ARE DEFINITELY CONSIDERING.
WE HAD THIS CONVERSATION LAST YEAR, MYSELF AND OUR ISD TEAM, HOW WE CAN SUPPORT OUR FAMILIES IN HILTON HEAD AND THAT CLUSTER, BECAUSE WE HAVE A LOT OF SCHOOLS THERE.
SO WE HAVE HAD THAT CONVERSATION, BUT CURRENTLY WE HAVE NOTHING IN PLACE EXCEPT DISCUSSION AND LOOKING INTO WHAT WE CAN DO TO SUPPORT THOSE FAMILIES.
WELL, ACTUALLY, YEAH, WELL, THIS ONE IS JUST TO MRS. DIANE AS WELL.
UM, MS. DIANA, YOU SAID THAT WE HAVE A WELCOMING CENTER.
UH, WHERE IS THAT? AND WHO, WHERE AND WHAT, WHAT DOES THAT LOOK LIKE? AND WHERE'S THAT AT? I'M NOT, I I'VE, I'VE HEARD YOU SAID IT TODAY IN THE MEETING.
AND I WAS WONDERING WHERE'S THAT AT? AND WHEN YOU SAID WELCOMING CENTER, WHO'S WE, WE MEANING OUR DISTRICT IT'S FOR ALL OF US, IT'S FOR EVERYONE WHO WANTS THE SERVICES, ANY FAMILY THAT WOULD LIKE TO REGISTER, THEY WOULD LIKE ASSISTANCE.
IT IS THE TRAILER OUTSIDE AND THE BLUFFTON AND MCCRACKEN CIRCLE.
THAT IS OUR WELCOME CENTER THAT IS SHARED ALSO WITH MS. HUTCHINSON FOR EARLY CHILDHOOD ON WEDNESDAYS.
WE SHARE THAT SPACE WITH HER AS WELL.
AND IN BUFORD, IT IS IN THE DISTRICT OFFICE, RIGHT? WHEN YOU COME IN AND YOU SEE OUR RECEPTIONIST, MISS ANNA TO THE RIGHT, WE HAVE A ROOM TO THE LEFT, RIGHT BEFORE WE GO THROUGH THE DOUBLE DOORS TO COME INTO THE DISTRICT OFFICE.
AND THAT'S OUR WELCOME CENTER IN BUFORD, AND THAT'S ON OUR PUBLIC WEBPAGE.
THAT'S ALL THAT INFORMATION IS ON THE WEBPAGE AND IT'S TRANSLATED INTO THE FIVE LANGUAGES, ET CETERA.
SO ALL THAT INFORMATION IS OUT THERE.
BECAUSE, UH, PRIOR TO YOU SAYING THAT IT'S NOT SOMEONE ELSE HAD ASKED ME ABOUT THE WELCOME AND SENT OUT, I'M THINKING ABOUT WHEN YOU'RE WELCOME INTO SOUTH CAROLINA, NOT ACTUALLY THE DISTRICT HAVING A WELCOMING CENTER, SO THAT'S GREAT INFORMATION FOR THE PUBLIC TO KNOW AS WELL.
UM, SO THAT'S WHY I THINK IT WAS VERY IMPORTANT TO ACTUALLY THAT QUESTION AND TO UNDERSTAND THAT ALSO I DO HAVE ONE MORE.
I DO HAVE ONE, ONE MORE, ONE MORE LAST QUESTION, MR. SMITH.
[02:05:01]
RESPECT, THIS IS A SLEW OF INFORMATION.THERE'S A WHOLE BUNCH OF PEOPLE HERE, SO, OH, WELL, GO AHEAD.
OH, WE'RE NOT GOING TO GET UP AND GO OUT AND GET A CUP OF COFFEE.
WE'RE GOING TO SIT HERE THROUGH THE WHOLE THING AND, AND, AND THAT'S UNDERSTANDABLE BECAUSE I STILL CAN READ THE INFORMATION.
I'M JUST KEEP ASKING YOU DO YOUR QUESTION.
UM, AND THEN 10 TERMS OF, UM, AND, AND, AND, AND IN TERMS OF, I THINK IT WAS MR. UM, IT WAS THE FLOWERS WE WERE TALKING ABOUT, ABOUT TABOO TESTS.
I THINK IT WAS ABOUT TESTING AND HOW REGULARLY WE TEST THE STUDENTS.
MY, MY, MY, MY QUESTION AND, AND, AND, AND, AND TESTING STUDENTS IS, IS THERE, IS THERE A REASONING, UH, OR IS THERE SOMETHING THAT'S DRIVEN TO WHERE WE WANT TO TEST STUDENTS MAYBE TWICE A YEAR AND JUST START TRYING TO UNDERSTAND, UNDERSTAND THAT.
SO, UM, ASSESSMENTS ARE AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE INSTRUCTIONAL PROCESS OF TEACHING AND LEARNING, RIGHT? SO WHEN WE'RE TALKING ABOUT FORMATIVE ASSESSMENTS, WE'RE TALKING ABOUT ASSESSMENTS THAT WE'RE GIVING TO CHECK ALONG THE WAY.
IF STUDENTS ARE MASTERING THE SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE OF WHAT THE STANDARD REQUIRES OF THEM, RIGHT.
WHICH IS BASED ON WHAT WE HAVE JUST INSTRUCTED UPON.
AND SO, SO WE NEED TO SORT OF GET A CHECK AND A FEEL ABOUT WHETHER OUR KIDS ARE GETTING THIS ALONG THE WAY, RIGHT.
WE DON'T WANT TO GET TO MAY AND THEN DECIDE IN MAY THAT, UH, WE'LL LOOK AT THE RESULTS AND FIND THAT, UM, THAT, THAT, THAT KIDS DIDN'T MASTER IT ALONG THE WAY.
RIGHT? SO THAT OUR TEACHERS HAVE A CHANCE TO ADAPT AND ADJUST INSTRUCTION ALONG THE WAY TO HELP THEM MASTER THOSE SKILLS.
THAT'S WHAT FORMATIVE ASSESSMENTS ARE ABOUT.
THAT'S WHAT OUR INTERIM BENCHMARK ASSESSMENTS ARE ABOUT.
UH, DIFFERENT CHECKS ALONG THE WAY.
THEY'RE NOT TAKING TESTS EVERY DAY.
THEY'RE TAKING TESTS AT STRATEGIC TIMES TO CHECK ON THE MASTERY OF WHAT HAS JUST BEEN TAUGHT.
AND, UH, IT IS AN INTEGRAL PART OF, OF TEACHING AND LEARNING, RIGHT.
OTHERWISE WHAT YOU END UP WITH IS AN AUTOPSY REPORT AT THE END OF THE YEAR THAT SAYS, OH, BY THE WAY, THEY DIDN'T GET IT RIGHT.
AND THERE'S NO OPPORTUNITY TO ADJUST AND CORRECT COURSE.
SO I'VE SPOKEN TO OUR BOARD A LOT ABOUT A CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT MODEL, RIGHT? THAT IS ITS CENTRAL TENANT OF A CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT MODEL WHERE OUR TEACHERS PLAN FIRST OR STANDARDS-BASED INSTRUCTION, OUR TEACHERS THEN DELIVER STANDARDS-BASED INSTRUCTION.
THAT'S ALIGNED TO THE STANDARDS, RIGHT.
AND THEN WE CHECK AND MONITOR FOR MASTERY.
AND THEN AFTER THAT, WE MAKE DECISIONS WITH THAT.
OUR TEACHERS MAKE DECISIONS WITH THAT.
AND THOSE DECISIONS ARE ABOUT, UH, DO WE NEED TO GO BACK AND DO SOME REMEDIATION NOW? AND, AND BECAUSE KIDS DIDN'T GET IT, OR THOSE DECISIONS ARE ABOUT OUR KIDS GOT IT.
WE CAN ENRICH AND DEEPEN THE KNOWLEDGE THAT THEY'VE JUST GAINED AND MASTER.
AND RESEARCH SHOWS THAT A BALANCED ASSESSMENT SYSTEM, UH, WITH FORMATIVE, INTERIM AND SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENTS ARE THE WAY TO GO IN ORDER TO, UH, HELP IMPROVE OUTCOMES FOR KIDS.
OH, WISE, YOU DON'T KNOW TILL THE VERY END IT'S TOO LATE.
AND, AND THAT, AND THAT WAS PART OF, AND THAT WAS ONE OF THE REASON WHY I'M ASKING IT, BECAUSE I SEE ON HERE WHERE WE DO HAVE THE LEARNING THEY'RE LEARNING GAP.
AND SO MY, MY THING IS, YOU KNOW, HOW ARE WE JUST ASKING ABOUT TESTING TO BE ANOTHER TOOL IN OUR TOOL BELT, TO BE ABLE TO MONITOR THAT THROUGH THE GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE LEARNING OF THE LEARNING, LEARNING GAP.
SO THAT WAS MY, MY LOGIC FRANCE, BECAUSE WHAT WILL HAPPEN WITH, FOR EXAMPLE, WITH, UH, PERFORMANCE MATTERS, UH, WHEN WE DELIVER ASSESSMENTS THROUGH THAT, THE SYSTEM WILL AUTOMATICALLY DO AN ITEM ANALYSIS FOR OUR TEACHERS ON THE INDIVIDUAL ITEMS ON THAT ASSESSMENT.
AND OUR STUDENTS CAN IDENTIFY WHETHER, I MEAN, OUR YES, OUR STUDENTS, BUT CERTAINLY OUR TEACHERS, UH, CAN IDENTIFY, UH, WHERE STUDENTS WENT WRONG IN ANSWERING THAT QUESTION.
SO YOU CAN TACKLE IT AT THE POINT OF ERROR AND, AND HELP CORRECT, UH, UH, MISUNDERSTANDINGS ALONG THE WAY.
SO IF YOU CAN SEE VERY EASILY, YOU KNOW, 70% OF MY CLASS MISS THIS QUESTION, RIGHT? SO WHATEVER IT IS ABOUT THIS QUESTION, WHETHER IT'S A HIGH COGNITIVE LEVEL QUESTION REQUIRING A LOT MORE FROM STUDENTS THAN CRITICALLY ON OR, OR NOT, WE CAN SEE WHICH ONES THEY'RE MISSING, WHICH ONES ARE NOT DOING WELL ON AND ADJUST INSTRUCTION ACCORDINGLY TO GIVE THEM MORE PRACTICE AND, AND, UH, AND A DEEPER LEARNING.
[02:10:02]
YOU CAN HAVE IT.NOW, I'M TAKING A LITTLE PAUSE TO COMPOSE MYSELF.
I WANT TO SHARE A LITTLE BIT WITH YOU AS UNDER OTHER MATTERS.
I WANT TO, UH, BEFORE THE TEAM HEADS OUT, I WANT TO SAY THANK YOU TO ALL OF THEM FOR VERY THOROUGH, UH, AN IMPORTANT PRESENTATION THIS EVENING TO, TO OUR BOARD.
UM, UNDER OTHER MATTERS, UH, I WANTED TO SHARE WITH YOU A LITTLE BIT ABOUT OUR BACK TO SCHOOL EXPO.
UM, LAST SATURDAY, WE HELD THE BACK TO SCHOOL EXPO AT, UH, ACE, AND WE HAD A TREMENDOUS TURNOUT AT THE BACK TO SCHOOL EXPO.
I WANT TO, I WANT TO THANK EVERYONE WHO CONTRIBUTED TO THIS.
UH, OUR EMPLOYEES WHO CAME OUT ON SATURDAY, UH, INCLUDING BUS DRIVERS WHO PROVIDED TRANSPORTATION FOR COMMUNITY PARTNERS, UH, WHO DONATED THEIR TIME AND SCHOOL SUPPLIES.
AND OF COURSE, REALLY THE HUNDREDS OF FAMILIES THAT ATTENDED THAT DAY.
I KNOW SEVERAL OF YOU WERE THERE IN ATTENDANCE.
UM, MANY STUDENTS WERE THERE, NOT JUST PARENTS, BUT MANY STUDENTS WERE THERE.
AND, AND PART OF WHAT'S VALUABLE ABOUT THAT EXPERIENCE IS THAT NUMBER ONE, THE STUDENTS GET SUPPLIES AND THINGS LIKE THAT, AND THEY LOVE IT, RIGHT.
UH, PARENTS, UH, HAVE ACCESS TO DIFFERENT AGENCIES OR DIFFERENT VENDORS THAT ARE AVAILABLE THAT SUPPORT THEM, OR CAN'T HELP SUPPORT THEM ALONG THE WAY WITH ANY ISSUES THAT MAY ARISE OR FIND THAT DIDN'T HAVE TO BE FOR SUPPORTING WITH ISSUES.
IT CAN BE FOR, UM, FOR PROVIDING ADDITIONAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR, FOR STUDENTS, UH, THROUGH OTHER AFTERSCHOOL TYPE PROGRAMS THAT ARE AVAILABLE IN OUR COMMUNITY.
SO IT WAS, UH, UH, QUITE A GREAT SUCCESS.
WE HAD STUDENTS THAT WERE THERE, UM, RAN ACROSS SEVERAL STUDENTS.
UH, SOME OF WHICH, UM, HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS IN PARTICULAR, WHO WERE INQUIRING ABOUT A LOT OF THINGS THAT WAS ON THEIR MIND, NOT, NOT JUST THE OPENING OF SCHOOL, UH, UM, MANY OF THEM EXPRESSING THEY ARE READY TO COME BACK.
UH, AND THEY'RE EXCITED AND MISS THEIR FRIENDS AND THEY'RE READY.
UM, SOME OF THEM INQUIRING ABOUT THINGS LIKE THE, UH, LAST YEAR, THE BOARD MADE A MODIFICATION TO, UH, TO THE REQUIRED GPA AROUND STUDENT ATHLETES BECAUSE OF COVID.
UH, MANY OF THEM IS STILL CONTINUED TO EXPERIENCE SOME CHALLENGES AROUND IT.
UH, I HEARD FROM, UH, FROM SEVERAL STUDENTS ALONG THE WAY, WHO, WHO SAID THAT LAST YEAR'S MODIFICATION, UH, REALLY HELPED THEM A LOT.
UH, AND, AND, YOU KNOW, THEIR CONNECTION TO, UH, THEIR ATHLETICS WAS AN IMPORTANT PART FOR THEM.
IN ADDITION, UH, HEARD FROM, UH, SEVERAL STUDENTS WHO ALSO SAID, UH, IT HELPED THEM TO PULL AND KEEP THEIR, UH, UH, GPA ABOVE A 2.0 BECAUSE THEIR COACHES, AS PART OF THAT MODIFICATION, THAT THE BOARD MADE WERE REQUIRED TO MONITOR ON A WEEKLY.
AND SO YOU HAVE THE HIGH SCHOOL LEAGUE 1.0 RULE, AND THEN YOU HAD THE BUFORD COUNTY TWO POINT OVERALL.
AND WHAT THE BOARD IN EFFECT DID WAS TO, TO, UH, REMOVE THAT 2.0 REQUIREMENT IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE, BUT REQUIRED COACHES TO MONITOR STUDENTS.
SO ON A WEEKLY BASIS THAT THEY HAD 2.0 ON A WEEKLY BASIS.
UH, AND, AND THAT, UH, UH, BOTH STUDENTS AND COACHES EXPRESSED THAT AS, UH, AN IMPORTANT PART OF, OF THEIR EXPERIENCE LAST YEAR, UM, WHICH HAD AN INTERESTING EFFECT, UH, ONE THAT I DIDN'T REALLY THINK, UH, BUT THAT, THAT WEEKLY MONITORING, UH, KIDS APPRECIATED IT AND, AND, UH, COACHES, UH, UH, REALLY DID THAT ASPECT OF IT, WHICH WAS, WHICH WAS THE KEY COMPONENT TO IT AND, OR AN ATHLETIC DIRECTORS.
UM, SO THESE ARE STUDENTS SHARING INFORMATION WITH ME AT THE EXPO.
THAT'S ONE OF THE THINGS I PERSONALLY VALUED A LOT IN, IT WAS THE OPPORTUNITY TO ENGAGE WITH OUR KIDS, UH, AND, AND, UH, AND ADULTS THAT WERE THERE.
ROBIN, DO YOU HAVE A, A QUICK FLIP FOR THEM? THE BAGS WITH SCHOOL SUPPLIES, THE BUFORD COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT HELD IT'S BACK TO SCHOOL EXPO AT THE BUFORD JASPER ACADEMY FOR CAREER EXCELLENCE, MORE THAN 30 LOCAL BUSINESSES, AS WELL AS REPRESENTATIVES FROM EACH OF OUR SCHOOLS, WE'RE GIVING AWAY SCHOOL SUPPLIES.
I GOT A LOT OF OUR PENCILS, PENS, CRAYONS, UH, BOOKS.
[02:15:01]
OF MECHANICAL PENCILS, BOOKS, MARKERS, PENCILS, A BOOKS, OTHER SUPPLIES, SHARPENERS PENCILS, A LOT OF BOOKS, CRAN, COLOR PENCILS.UM, DURING THE EVENT, THEY WERE BACKPACKING AND PRIZE GIVEAWAYS AND FAMILIES ALSO HAD ACCESS TO TECHNOLOGY, TRAINING, HEALTH SERVICES, AND MORE IT'S IMPORTANT FOR US TO HELP FAMILIES TRANSITION INTO THE NEW SCHOOL YEAR AND JUST ENCOURAGE THEM TO DO THEIR BEST WE'RE SETTING THE STAGE FOR SUCCESS.
SO WE'RE PROVIDING EVERYTHING THAT THEY NEED.
SO HOPEFULLY EVERYTHING GOES SMOOTHLY AS THEY ENTER THE NEW SCHOOL YEAR, THE KIDS HAVE LOTS OF FUN GOING TABLE TO TABLE, PICKING UP THEIR SUPPLIES AS THEY GET READY TO GO BACK TO SCHOOL.
I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE MY FRIENDS AND I NEED TEACHER AND ONE TO LEARN NEW THINGS.
THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL IS AUGUST 15TH AT THE BUFORD JASPER ACADEMY FOR CAREER EXCELLENCE.
RON LOPES YOU'VE COME TO SCHOOL DISTRICT.
YOU SAW A JUANITA PALER THERE.
SHE DID AN OUTSTANDING JOB ORGANIZING AND COORDINATING THE EVENT WELL ATTENDED.
SO OCEAN SPEND THAT, UH, TO, UH, UH, HILTON HEAD, THE HIGH SCHOOL LEAKS 1.0 GPA INSTEAD OF OUR FINAL GPA FOR THAT TIME WAS FAIRLY EFFECTIVE.
I DON'T KNOW HOW WE MONITOR IT.
THAT WOULD BE A QUESTION I WOULD WANT WHEN THE COACHES DID DO STUDY HALLS AND OTHER THINGS.
BUT, UM, OBVIOUSLY THERE IS SOME CONCERN THAT I'M WILLING TO MAKE THAT I LIKE TO MAKE A MOTION TO EXTEND IT.
AND MY SECONDARY, IT WAS POINT OF ORDER.
I, I'M NOT SURE THAT WE CAN DO THAT TONIGHT BECAUSE IT WASN'T ON THE AGENDA.
I THINK MAYBE IT NEEDS TO BE AN AGENDA TOPIC NEXT TIME.
I, I'M NOT SURE BUT DISAGREE WITH THAT.
I THINK THAT WOULD BE THE SAFEST THING TO DO BECAUSE YOU'RE RIGHT.
CAN YOU WAIT TILL THE NEXT MEETING MAIL OR, WELL, THE NEXT MEETING WILL BE THE ONE OF THE KICKOFF GAMES.
DO WE MAKE IT FOR ONE YEAR? DO WE HAVE TO RENEW IT OR IS IT JUST, WE WOULD HAVE TO REPEAL IT? I CAN'T REMEMBER HOW WE SET IT UP NOW.
I THINK THAT IT WAS WRITTEN AS ONE YEAR.
SO WHAT ARE WE DOING RIGHT NOW WITH FOOTBALL RIGHT NOW? IT'S BACK TO THE 2.0.
UH, IF MY MEMBERS SHOWED ME CORRECT.
UM, IF IT WAS MENTIONED IN SOMETHING THAT WAS BROUGHT UP AND THEN YOU TOOK AN EMOTION FROM THAT, THEN I BELIEVE THAT THAT THERE'S NOTHING THERE.
THAT'S JUST NOT WITHIN OUTSIDE OF THE BOUNDARIES TO MAKE A MOTION, BECAUSE THAT IS SOMETHING THAT A SUBJECT THAT HE BROUGHT UP AND HE MADE A MOTION ON THIS.
SO I BELIEVE THAT THAT MOTION DO STAND.
I THINK THAT MOTION IS IN ORDER.
CAUSE FOR YOU, YOU HAVE TO HAVE THINGS ON THE, ON THE AGENDA.
SO PEOPLE KNOW THAT YOU'RE GOING TO VOTE ON THEM, RIGHT? SO WE HAVE AN EXPERT HERE, FIGURE OUT HOW MILK YOU GET, WHAT HE WANTS.
I HOPE THAT'S NOT A SIGN OF SOMETHING.
THEY BRING FORWARD THE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION THAT WE DON'T HAVE ABOUT THIS TONIGHT.
SO HOW MANY OF THE COACHES WOULD DO IT YET, ET CETERA, ET CETERA.
TELL US THE GPA IS, I MEAN, I WOULDN'T PROBABLY SAY, YOU KNOW, A FEW MINUTES JUST TO SORT OF SUMMARIZE HOW, WHAT THE, WHAT THE EFFECT OF, OF OKAY.
[02:20:01]
YES, THAT'S FINE.I MEAN, SOME OF THE, UH, TEASING SOME OF THAT OUT, UH, LET ME SEE WHAT I CAN BRING IT TO EXACTLY.
I MEAN, COULD, COULD WE, UH, WELL I GUESS ONE YEARS, ONE YEAR, I MEAN A FOLLOWING QUESTION IS THAT WOULD STOP, DEFINITELY STOP THE KIDS FROM, FROM, FROM PARTICIPATING IN, YOU KNOW, RIGHT NOW THAT'S KNOW THAT'S.
THAT IS DEFINITELY, UM, WHAT WAS THE QUESTION
IT'S AT THE MOMENT IT STOPPED BECAUSE I HEARD SOMETHING
[• Final approval of policy OE6.16 for adoption]

UH, WELL, NEVER HAD IT SINCE I'VE BEEN HERE BECAUSE THE FIRST SUMMER I GOT HERE, WE DIDN'T HAVE IT.
UM, THEN WE DIDN'T HAVE TWO YEARS.
SO WE, WE, WE HAD IT THIS YEAR.
I HEAR THE KEYNOTE SPEAKER WAS REALLY AMAZING.
UM, BUT ASIDE FROM THAT, UH, ON A MORE SERIOUS NOTE, THERE WERE PROBABLY OVER, UH, 1100 PEOPLE THERE TODAY.
I MEAN, BUS DRIVERS, UH, CUSTODIANS, UH, WERE THERE, UH, TEACHERS, UH, FRONT OFFICE STAFF, PRINCIPALS, ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS.
I MEAN THE WHOLE SYSTEM WAS REPRESENTING, UH, PROBABLY OVER A HUNDRED PEOPLE.
UH, THAT'LL GO OFF FOR THE NEXT TWO DAYS, UH, OVER AT MAY RIVER HIGH SCHOOL.
UH, AND THEN, UH, THE OTHER ANNOUNCEMENT I WANTED TO MAKE IS THAT AT THAT SESSION, UH, I ANNOUNCED THE DISTRICT TEACHERS HERE.
FINALLY, I WANT TO SHARE WITH YOU THAT THOSE ARE, UH, KINZIE BUTLER, UH, BAND TEACHER AT THE MIDDLE JUSTINE PARTY, OUTSIDE TEACHER AT BATTERY REQUEST CARRY CURRENT MATH TEACHER AT NATE RIVER HIGH SCHOOL, JENNIFER LYLES, A THIRD GRADE TEACHER AT CUSO ELEMENTARY AND DR.

I SENT EMAILS TO GO TO 27 THAT PROCEEDED THIS, AND I'M ASKING, I'VE READ SEVERAL POCKETS OF THIS.
AND IT'S COMING OUT OF MY POCKET OF SAFETY BECAUSE I STILL DO NOT HAVE ACCESS A FLAT.
I HAD A LAPTOP, NO ONE COULD TELL ME WHY I BOUGHT ACCESS.
HE BOUGHT PERSONAL EMAIL FOR THE SCHOOL IS IT HAS BEEN BRUTAL.
NO ONE WILL TELL ME WHO WERE BOLDED.
NO ONE WILL TELL ME HOW I CAN GET IT REINSTATED.
I'M STILL KIND OF SOLUTION PARENT, NOT I'M BEING PAID FOR THIS, BUT I CANNOT GO INTO THE SCHOOL.
I'VE BEEN TOLD NOT TO GO TO THEIR SCHOOL TO START ON ON A COUPLE OF WEEKS.
I'M SURE I'M GETTING MASSIVE EMAILS BECAUSE I'M A PART OF A, APPARENTLY I DON'T HAVE ACCESS TO THEM.
I'M JUST KIND OF LIKE HANGING IN THE BALANCE.
I WOULD LIKE TO, UM, THERE'S A LOT THAT GOES ALONG WITH IT.
THIS IS NOT THE TIME, BUT I WOULD LOVE TO PUT THIS IN THE HANDS OF SOMEONE, ONE OF THE BOARD MEMBERS HANDS TONIGHT, THEY KEEP AND YOU HAVE COP WAS ACTUALLY, I MADE THE COX.
AND IF I CAN GET A RESPONSE, THIS IS THE RESPONSE I MADE ON JUNE 7TH.
