[00:00:02]

IT'S FOUR O'CLOCK I'M GOING TO CALL YOU TO ORDER TODAY AND I'M UM, I'D LIKE TO INTRODUCE THE BOARD MEMBERS RIGHT NOW, TOO.

I GUESS JAMES MORAN HISTORY FIVE EARLY COLD DISTRICTS, DISTRICT ONE, ROSS RICHMOND.

THANK YOU.

AND WE HAVE A DIRECTOR, AMANDA DYCKMAN AND JOSH JACKSON.

AND THEN, UM, MY GUESTS TODAY ARE JONATHAN NOW FROM THE PAT CALMER LITERARY CENTER.

NOW I'LL BE INTRODUCED TO HIM IN A, IN A PORTION OF MY REPORT AND ALSO ARE THE NEW STATE CALIBRATE TRAINS, YOUR CANVAS TIME.

AND I WOULD BE REMISS IF WE DIDN'T, UH, PUT A LITTLE HIGHLIGHT FOR TROY, WHO IS OUR SOUND IN BROADCAST ENGINEER TODAY? IS THERE ANY PUBLIC AND THERE IS NONE.

ARE THERE ANY ADDITIONS OR CORRECTIONS TO THE MINUTES FROM JANUARY THE 12TH FAVOR? ANY CORRESPONDING, NO CORRESPONDING INFORMATION.

WE WILL NOW HAVE THE LIBRARY REPORT, PLEASE.

ALL RIGHT.

WHAT IS MY PLEASURE TO TELL YOU THAT IN THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY WE WELCOMED FIVE NEW EMPLOYEES, WE FILLED SOME VACANCIES THERE, YOU HAVE A REPORT FOR YOU OR ORGANIZATIONAL CHART.

UM, AND SO WE ARE STILL CONTINUING TO FILL VACANCIES, UM, AS ACTIVELY AS WE CAN AND HOPING TO FIND WONDERFULLY QUALIFIED PEOPLE TO JOIN OUR TEAM.

ONE OF THOSE WONDERFULLY QUALIFIED PEOPLE WHO HAS RECENTLY JOINED OUR THEME CANDACE OR CANDY VAN TYNE, I'M GOING TO INTRODUCE HER NOW.

SO COME STAND BESIDE ME.

CANDY JOINED ON DOWNTIME, SAY SHE JOINED US AS THE MANAGER OF ST.

HELENA BRANCH LIBRARY.

AS YOU KNOW, WE HAD AN EXHAUSTIVE SEARCH FOR THAT.

IT TOOK US SEVERAL MONTHS TO FILL IT, BUT CANDY, UM, MOVED TO THE AREA RECENTLY, BUT SHE'S NO STRANGER TO LIBRARY SERVICE.

SHE'S HAD OVER 20 YEARS PRIMARILY WORKING FOR ILLINOIS, BUT WANTED TO MAKE BUFORD COUNTY HER HOME.

SHE MADE THAT VERY CLEAR TO US AND HAS A HEART FOR THIS COMMUNITY, WHICH IS WHY SHE HAS THE JOB SO HANDY.

THIS IS OUR LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES.

AND, UH, DO YOU HAVE ANYTHING THAT YOU'D LIKE TO SAY TO THEM? UM, NOT REALLY.

UM, I'VE BEEN HERE THREE AND A HALF WEEKS.

UM, I REALLY, REALLY LIKE IT.

I LIKE THE COMMUNITY, THE STAFF, THE FACILITY.

UM, I THINK IT'S GOING TO BE A GOOD, HOPEFULLY.

SO CANDY.

TELL US ABOUT BEING AN ILLINOIS, WHERE YOU AT A MANAGER OF A LIBRARY.

I WAS HEAD OF ADULT SERVICES FROM THE GEORGIA PUBLIC LIBRARY, WHICH I WOULD SAY JULIA IS THE SECOND OR THIRD LARGEST CITY IN ILLINOIS.

SO MY MANAGER WASN'T ADMINISTERING HER HEAD, JUST A STAFF OF NINE.

UM, I REALLY, REALLY LIKED WORKING WITH THE PUBLIC.

I REALLY LIKE GETTING THE WORD OUT ABOUT WHAT LIBRARIES CAN DO FOR THE COMMUNITIES THAT THEY SERVE.

SO EXCITED TO HAVE THIS OPPORTUNITY.

WELL, WELCOME.

THANK YOU.

IT WAS NICE TO MEET YOU.

ALL RIGHT.

HE CERTAINLY HIT THE GROUND RUNNING AND SHE'S KEPT ME ON MY TOES, WHICH IS A GOOD THING.

SO THANK YOU.

THANK YOU.

THANK YOU.

SORRY.

UM, I NEXT WANT TO TURN OUR ATTENTION TO SOME ONGOING PROJECTS

[00:05:01]

THAT I'M WORKING ON AS A SYSTEM, AS A LIBRARY SYSTEM.

THE FIRST IS NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK IN MY PERIODIC REPORTS TO YOU.

YOU'VE HEARD ME TALK ABOUT WANTING TO PROMOTE NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK AS A LIBRARY SYSTEM.

AND OUR STAFF HAVE BEEN A SELLER AT PRESENTING AND PLANNING PROGRAMS AT EACH LIBRARY TO HAPPEN OVER THE COURSE OF NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK IS COMING UP.

IT IS APRIL 3RD THROUGH APRIL 9TH TO THE 10TH THERE.

AND WE HAD A VERY SPECIAL EVENT, UM, NEVER BEFORE HAPPENED IN BUFORD COUNTY.

AND TO INTRODUCE IT, I'M GOING TO INTRODUCE MY GUEST, JONATHAN, WHO WILL EXPLAIN THIS VERY SPECIAL EVENT AS A PART OF KICKING OFF NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK.

BUT IN ADDITION TO THAT, AS, UM, AS A, AS A VALUED PARTNER, JONATHAN IS THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE PAT KONRAD LITERARY CENTER, AND HE IS A VALUED PARTNER OF MINE.

UM, AND IN ADDITION TO, THIS IS A SPECIAL EVENT THAT WE'RE GOING TO TALK ABOUT.

HE'S ALSO PRESENTING THREE LECTURES AT THREE BRANCHES, UH, DURING NATIONAL LIBRARY TO SEE HE'S ALSO INVOLVED WITH THE FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY STORY WALK PROJECT.

SO YOU'RE JUST LIBRARY, FAMILY.

THIS IS JONATHAN.

WHO'S GOING TO TELL YOU ABOUT BUFORD HUMAN LIBRARY, WHICH IS THE FIRST EVENT OF NATIONAL LIBRARY.

THANK YOU.

IT'S ALWAYS NICE TO BE INTRODUCED AS A VALUED PARTNER, MY BUSINESS CARD, BUT GOOD AFTERNOON, EVERYBODY.

IT'S A REAL HONOR TO BE WITH YOU ALL AND TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT PROGRAMS THAT THE CONGRESS CENTER IS DOING YOUR PARTNERSHIP WITH THE LIBRARY SYSTEM AND ABOUT OUR INAUGURAL HUMAN LIBRARY PROJECT AS WELL.

WE'LL BE DOING THAT OPENING DAY OF NATIONAL LIBRARY, WHICH IS SUNDAY, APRIL 3RD IN THE AFTERNOON AT THE BUFORD DRAINAGE.

AND THAT'S A COLLABORATION, NOT JUST BETWEEN THE COMMERCE CENTER AND THE LIBRARY, BUT ALSO FOR THE IMARK.

WHETHER THE STUDENTS, I WORK WITH A HIGH SCHOOL AND ORGANIZATION CALLED OR DIVERSITY AWARENESS YOUTH LITERACY ORGANIZATION, AND ABOUT 25 OF THOSE STUDENTS WILL BE WITH US THAT AFTERNOON AS WELL.

THE WAY THE HUMAN LIBRARY WORKS IS IF YOU SORT OF IMAGINE IT AT THE SPEED DATING SCENARIO, BUT YOU GET TO TALK TO A MEMBER OF THE COMMUNITY.

YOU AS AN INTERESTING STORY, WHO'S OVERCOME SOMETHING IN THE COURSE OF THEIR LIFE.

UH, JONATHAN, LOOK AT THE AGE GROUP OF THIS GROUP.

WE DON'T NECESSARILY KNOW WHAT SPEED DATING IS, BUT I'M JUST KIDDING.

I DON'T THINK ANY OF US HAVE, SO OUR METERS ARE PUBLIC ATTENDEES WILL HAVE ABOUT HALF HOUR OF ONE-ON-ONE INTERACTION WITH A REPRESENTATIVE OF OUR COMMUNITY, 12 BOOKS, AS WE CALL THEM.

THE HUMAN LIBRARY IS MADE UP OF FOLKS WHO ARE MEMBERS OF OUR COMMUNITY.

WHO'VE LIVED INTERESTING LIVES AND HAVE INTERESTING CAREERS, AND THEY HAVE COME HERE FROM ELSEWHERE, OR THEY MAY BE LIVING LIVES IN OUR COMMUNITY THAT ALLOW THEM TO ENGAGE WITH PEOPLE ACROSS LINES OF COMMUNICATION.

THAT AREN'T ALWAYS OPEN TO EVERYBODY IT'S MEANT TO BUILD EMPATHY AND UNDERSTANDING OF WHO EXACTLY MAKES UP THIS NEIGHBORHOOD OF BUFORD.

AND THEN WE HAVE THIS GREAT GROUP OF HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS PARTICIPATING IN THIS KIND OF SHEPHERD, EVERYBODY THROUGH.

IT JUST ADDS ANOTHER LEVEL TO IT.

I'VE BEEN VERY FORTUNATE TO GET FUNDING FOR THIS FROM SOUTH CAROLINA HUMANITIES, ONE OF OUR STATEWIDE ARTS AND CULTURE ORGANIZATIONS, THEY'VE BEEN VERY SUPPORTIVE OF THIS IDEA.

AND AS A MAIN DIMENSION, THIS IS NOT SOMETHING THAT'S HAPPENED HERE IN THE COUNTY BEFORE.

NOT REALLY EVEN HAPPENED MUCH IN SOUTH CAROLINA, BUT IT IS NOT JUST A NATIONAL MOVEMENT, BUT AN INTERNATIONAL MOVEMENT.

SO WE'RE HONORED TO HAVE THIS CHANCE TO TRY IT OUT HERE IN BUFORD AND HOPEFULLY MAKE IT THE FIRST OF SEVERAL OF THESE COMMUNITY CONVERSATIONS THAT WE HAVE.

AND AS AMANDA MENTIONED, I ALSO GET TO DO THREE OTHER THINGS WITH YOU, ALL VERY NATIONAL LIBRARY.

WE FIND YOU JUST ONE WHEN YOU CAN DO FOUR.

SO I WILL BE AT THREE OF THE BRANCHES.

I WILL BE AT THE HILTON BRANCH ON APRIL 4TH AT THE WASHINGTON BRANCH ON APRIL 5TH AND BACK TO THE BRANCH ON APRIL SIX DURING A TALK CALLED, I WAS BORN TO BE IN A LIBRARY TO SOMETHING THAT MR CONROY SAID ABOUT HIS OWN RELATIONSHIP WITH LIBRARIES AS A YOUNG PERSON, AS A MUCH OLDER PERSON THAN LIFE.

THIS IS A TALK I'VE GIVEN AROUND SOUTH CAROLINA AND GEORGIA MORE THAN 100 TIMES, INCLUDING IN THIS VERY ROOM ONCE.

UH, BUT IT'S NICE TO BRING IT BACK.

AND NOW THAT WE'RE OPEN TO THE IDEA OF IN-PERSON EVENTS AGAIN, AND YOU HAVE THOSE TALKS, THE ONES THAT BEAVER LIBRARY, AND ALSO THE BLUFFTON LIBRARY I WILL BE DOING IN COLLABORATION WITH MY STUDENT INTERNS.

BOTH OF THEM HAVE VERY STRONG LIBRARY ASSOCIATIONS AS WELL.

SO I DON'T HAVE TO DO ALL THE WORK THAT KIDS CAN BE PART OF IT.

SO WITH ALL THAT SAID, I'M HAPPY TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS OR SIT RIGHT BACK DOWN.

THOSE ARE BOTH EQUALLY VALID OPTIONS.

DOES ANYBODY HAVE A QUESTION ABOUT, UH, ANY OF THE EVENTS FOR NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK FOR WE FOR HUMAN LIBRARY? UM, THE THEME FOR NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK IS CONNECT AT YOUR LIBRARY.

AND SO THIS REALLY FOSTERS, FORMING MEANINGFUL CONNECTIONS BETWEEN COMMUNITY MEMBERS AND ALL OF THAT HAPPENING IN THE COMMUNITY SPACE.

WE CALL THE PUBLIC LIBRARY.

SO AMANDA, YOU SENT US THE APPLICATION FOR PEOPLE WHO WERE INTERESTED IN BEING A BOOK.

[00:10:01]

AND I, I WAS VERY IMPRESSED WITH THE EXPLANATION, BUT I DIDN'T THINK I WAS INTERESTING ENOUGH TO BE A BOOK.

AND I JUST WONDERED IF YOU GOT LOTS OF APPLICATIONS TWICE, AS MANY AS WE ENDED UP YEAH.

A SURPLUS OF BOOKS OF ANYTHING.

SO WE ENDED UP MAKING ABOUT 12 SELECTIONS AND WE HAVE OTHER FOLKS WE HOPE TO WORK WITH IN THE FUTURE.

I DISAGREE ENTIRELY WITH YOUR COMMENT THOUGH.

I THINK EVERYBODY, EVERY SINGLE PERSON HAS AN ISSUE.

WELL, NO, BUT THE EXPLANATION WAS LIKE SOMEBODY WHO'D LIKE TO LIVE THROUGH THE WHOLE ACCOST AND YOU KNOW, THAT PEOPLE HAVE REALLY, YOU KNOW, HISTORICALLY LIKE RELEVANT LIVES, YOU KNOW? AND SO I WAS, I WAS INTIMIDATED TO, I'VE HAD A CHANCE TO, WITH THEIR COMMITTEE REVIEW THE APPLICATIONS AND THERE ARE SEVERAL CONVERSATIONS I WANT TO HAVE.

YES.

THERE'S SEVERAL BOOKS I WANT TO CHECK OUT.

OH, ON TRACY.

ABSOLUTELY.

WE, UM, THIS IS THE FIRST TIME IN A MINE RECENT KNOWLEDGE THAT WE WILL BE MAKING A PROMOTIONAL PUSH OF ALL THE EVENTS THAT ARE HAPPENING DURING THIS ENVIRONMENT.

I DON'T REMEMBER GETTING THAT FORM TO APPLY, BUT DID IT ONLY APPLY TO, UM, THE PERSON OR COULD IT APPLY TO SOMEBODY IN THE PERSON'S FAMILY? THAT'S MY QUESTION.

I WOULD ENCOURAGE ANYBODY TO, UH, IF THEY HAVE INTEREST, UH, TO SUBMIT THE APPLICATION AND LET THAT COMMITTEE TO TIMER BECAUSE EVERYBODY'S STORY JUST DEPENDS ON HOW YOU TELL IT.

YEAH.

WELL, IF THEY'VE ALREADY BEEN SELECTED, CORRECT, BUT WE'RE HOPING THAT THIS IS SUCCESSFUL AND THAT WE CAN DO IT AND DO IT AGAIN.

AND I, THE LAST THING BEFORE WE MOVE ON, I WANT TO ENCOURAGE YOU ALL TO MAKE THE TRIP TO BUFORD AFTER, ON THAT SUNDAY AFTERNOON TO SEE THE FIRST HUMAN LIBRARY, IF IT'S OF INTEREST TO YOU.

THANK YOU, JONATHAN.

THANK YOU.

UM, THE NEXT TWO POINTS I WANT TO SHARE WITH YOU IS JUST TO LET YOU KNOW THAT, UM, ALL OF, ALL OF OUR BRANCHES WITH THE EXCEPTION OF HILTON HEAD, UM, ARE IN THE THROWS OF PROVIDING FREE TAX ASSISTANCE, UH, HAS BEEN WELL RECEIVED THIS YEAR AS IT IS RECEIVED WELL EVERY YEAR.

UM, AND JUST TO REMIND YOU THAT HILTON HEAD IS NOT HOSTING IT BECAUSE VITA THE GROUP I WASN'T ABLE TO HOST AT THAT SITE, HILTON HEAD IS SERVED WHEN THEY SITE, BUT JUST NOT AT THE LIBRARY, THEY WEREN'T, THEY WERE UNABLE TO GET VOLUNTEERS TO RUN A SITE AT THE OPEN-END LIBRARY.

AND THEN FINALLY STAFF DEVELOPMENT DAY IS COMING THAT WEDNESDAY, APRIL THE 23RD OR THE 20TH, UH, ALL OF OUR BEAVER COUNTY LIBRARY LOCATIONS IN BOOKMOBILES WILL BE CLOSED FOR OPERATIONS SO THAT ALL THE LIBRARY STAFF CAN MEET TOGETHER.

AND THIS WILL BE THE FIRST IN-PERSON MEETING SINCE 2019.

UH, I'VE DONE THE CALCULATIONS IN ABOUT 20 STAFF MEMBERS HAVE NEVER SEEN THE OTHER PEOPLE.

WE HAVE, WE HAVE WELCOMED ABOUT 20 NEW FACES.

WHO'VE NEVER SEEN THE OTHER 50 OF US.

SO THIS WILL BE A WELCOME GREEDY TIME IN TRAINING TIME, BECAUSE WITH ALL THOSE NEW PEOPLE, IT'S IMPORTANT THAT WE ALL HAVE A SHARED UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT IT IS THAT WE PRIORITIZE AND HOW WE BE, WHAT WE DO.

UH, PART OF, UH, PART OF THAT DAY, WE WILL BE DOING LIBRARY ONE-ON-ONE, UH, WE'LL BE TALKING ABOUT SUMMER READING, EXPLAINING THE PROGRAM AND BRAINSTORMING IDEAS FOR A EVENT.

WE'LL ALSO BE TALKING ABOUT COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT AND HOW EACH SAC MEMBER PLAYS A ROLE IN, UM, SELECTING AND, AND MAKING SURE THAT OUR COLLECTION IS UP TO DATE AND RELEVANT TO THE NEEDS OF THE COMMUNITY.

WE'LL ALSO BE TALKING ABOUT CIRCULAR TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE ALL FOLLOWING THE SAME PROCEDURES, UM, THAT WE SHARE.

AND THEN A FINAL PIECE THAT WE HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO DO SINCE 2019, THOSE VERY SPECIAL STAFF AWARDS TO RECOGNIZE YEARS OF SERVICE, WE HAVE TO STEP NUMBER TWO HAVE CROSSED THE 30 YEAR OF SERVICE, UM, BENCHMARK.

AND WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE RECOGNIZE THAT THEY CROSSED THAT LINE DURING COVID.

AND SO WE WANT TO MAKE SURE WE CELEBRATE THAT.

PLUS THOSE WHO HAVE REACHED 10 YEARS, FIVE YEARS, 15 YEARS, UM, WE JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE CELEBRATE OUR STAFF AND LET THEM KNOW THAT WE APPRECIATE ALL THAT THEY DO DAY IN AND DAY OUT.

I WOULD LIKE TO ENCOURAGE YOU ALL TO WRITE APRIL 20TH ON YOUR CALENDAR AND CONSIDER ATTENDING THE VERY FIRST PART OF THAT FROM EIGHT 30 TO 10:00 AM, AS I'LL BE PRESENTING MY LIBRARY, ONE-ON-ONE PRESENTATION TO OUR STAFF.

I WOULD LOVE FOR THEM TO SEE THEIR LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEMBERS.

WHEN I DESCRIBED THE ROLE THAT YOU PLAY IN LIBRARY OPERATIONS.

I'M WHERE IS IT? IT WILL BE AT THE BLUFFTON BRANCH LIBRARY.

I'LL SEND OUT A FOLLOWUP WOULD THAT INFORMATION, BUT JUST GO AHEAD AND GET THAT DATE IN YOUR MIND IF YOU WILL.

AND IF YOU'RE ABLE TO ATTEND, I WOULD LOVE TO BE ABLE TO INTRODUCE YOU TO OUR STAFF AND BY PERSON.

[00:15:03]

THAT IS THE END OF MY REPORT, UNLESS YOU HAVE ANY SPECIFIC QUESTIONS FOR ME.

OKAY.

THANK YOU SO MUCH, AMANDA.

UH, UH, .

WE WILL MOVE ON TO THE BOARD.

I THINK, I DIDN'T KNOW WHEN I WAS SUPPOSED TO PRESENT, UM, UM, WELL, LET'S DO THE FINANCING.

UM, ROSA LEE IS WANTING TO MANSION THE INTERVIEW SHE TO SET, TO SEND TO THAT.

SO I WOULDN'T GET HER.

I'LL GIVE YOU A FEW MINUTES.

LET'S DO THE FINANCIAL REPORTS.

YOU DID THE FINANCIAL REPORT AND THEN, AND THEN WE CAN PUT HER INTO THAT.

W WE'LL MOVE ON TO THE EXCITING PART OF THE PROGRAM FINANCIAL YEAR, UM, FOR THOSE OF US THAT, AND TAKE A LOOK AT YOUR PACKAGE, YOU WILL HAVE FOUR PAGES WHICH RELATE TO THE CHECKING ACCOUNT PUBLIC FUNDS.

IF YOU WOULD JUST TAKE THOSE AND MOVE THOSE TO THE SIDE FOR A SECOND, THIS IS INFORMATION ONLY, UH, REPRESENTS RECEIPTS THAT COME FROM PRINTING AND LATE FEES AND SUCH.

THAT'S NOT PART OF THE FINANCIAL REPORT AND WILL BE GIVEN TO THE, JUST FOR INFORMATION.

WE JUST MOVE THAT TO THE SIDE, TO MAKE LIFE EASY FOR YOURSELF.

UM, AT THIS PARTICULAR POINT, WE ARE TWO THIRDS OR EIGHT MONTHS THROUGH THE FISCAL YEAR.

WE HAVE A PRETTY GOOD IDEA OF WHERE WE ARE.

UM, IN SUMMARY, WE ARE UNDERSTANDING THAT HEALTHY IMPACT THE BALANCE.

SO ALL OF YOU CAN LET THE BREATH GO.

AT THIS POINT, WE ARE IN PRETTY GOOD SHAPE.

UH, WHAT I WANT TO DO IS TO GO OVER OUR DOCUMENTS IN OUR USUAL FORM USUAL SEQUENCE THAT IS, I'D LIKE TO START WITH THE SPECIAL FUNDS.

HEY, IF YOU HAVE IN YOUR, IN YOUR PACKET THAT, UM, AGAIN, KEEP IN MIND THAT WHAT WE'RE SEEING IN TERMS OF ACTIVITY AND EXPENDITURES IS REALLY THE LIBRARY OPERATIONALLY, JUST COMING OUT OF THE POST COVID YEAR.

EVENTS ARE SLOWLY MOVING TOWARDS NORMALICY.

AND I THINK THAT WE'LL SEE MORE AND MORE SPENDING PATTERNS GOING FORWARD.

I KNOW I MENTIONED THIS THE SAME THING LAST MONTH, BUT I THINK IN THE REMAINING FOUR MONTHS OF THE YEAR, I THINK THIS FISCAL YEAR WE'LL SEE A RETURN TO MORE NORMAL OPERATIONS.

AND THEN STARTING OFF ON THE TOP LEFT-HAND SIDE OF YOUR SPECIAL FUNDS PAGE, WE HAVE STATE AID LOTTERY, AND I'D LIKE TO BEGIN MY REMARKS BY, BY NOTING THAT THESE FUNDS ARE REALLY DIRECTED TOWARDS MATERIALS EXPENDITURES ONLY.

SO LET'S JUST THAT IN MIND, AND WE'LL BE RETURNING TO THIS THING, LAID AROUND.

AT THIS POINT, WE RECEIVED OUR THIRD ORDER INSTALLMENT OF 109,000.

SO FAR THIS YEAR TO DATE LIBRARY ADMINISTRATION HAS BEEN 112, 600 TIME AND MATERIALS LEAVING A VERY HEALTHY BALANCE OF 216,000.

SO WE ARE IN GOOD SHAPE WHEN IT COMES TO MONEY SET ASIDE FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR, BUT THROUGH THOSE EXPENDITURES, WE'LL BE COMING BACK TO THIS POINT IN THE FEW SECONDS, WHEN WE WON THEM OVER TO OUR IMPACT THAT WE HAVE AT THIS POINT, A LITTLE LESS THAN 5.8 MILLION ROUNDED DOWN.

AND THIS IS DOWN A BIT ABOUT 73,000, BUT OUR JANUARY REPORT, WE HAVE RECEIVED 112035% OF THAT AS EXPECTED FROM BLUFFTON FILED BY HILTON HEAD AND ST.

HELENA 27% EACH, WHICH AGAIN, REFLECTS OFF OF A BUILDING THAT'S GOING ON IN THESE PARTICULAR AREAS HERE, WE HAD A SINGLE EXPENDITURE ABOUT A LITTLE OVER 186,000, WHICH WAS FILMED IN LEFT AN ACCOUNT.

AND THAT'S WHAT REALLY RENOVATION ACTIVITY GOING ON AT THAT FACILITY.

NOW, STILL OFF, THEY LOOK AT THIS FIVE POINT GRID THAT WE HAVE IN THE BALANCE AND OFFER.

OKAY, MOVING AHEAD OF US, WE STILL HAVE ABOUT 85,000 REMAINING FOR THE BLUFFTON RENOVATION.

ALSO HERE IN OUR, WE HAVE ABOUT A MILLION SET ASIDE FOR NEW RIVERSIDE LAND OR WHERE THAT FACILITY WOULD BE REQUIRED FOR DESIGN PHASE.

FOR THAT FACILITY OF ABOUT 500,000, WE HAVE A POSSIBLE BLOCK.

THEN INNOVATION PHASE TWO WILL BE 5,000 AND THE HILTON HAD NAME STUDY AT ABOUT 50,000.

WHY DON'T WE TAKE A LOOK AT WHAT WE HAVE ON HAND VERSUS WHAT WE, WHAT WE HAVE FACING US WHEN YOU'RE PUTTING OUT THE SHAPE.

OVERALL, WE MAY HAVE AN IMBALANCED, THE SHORTAGE

[00:20:01]

I'M HOPING HAD IT BECAUSE, BECAUSE OF OUR BALANCE THERE, BUT AGAIN, THIS IS SOMEWHAT OFF INTO THE DISTANCE.

WE REALLY DON'T KNOW WHAT WE HAVE IN FRONT OF US AS, AS YET.

UM, BUT OVERALL, WHEN YOU TAKE A LOOK AT IMPACT PHASE, WHEN YOU'RE PRETTY GOOD SHAPE OVERALL, NOW MOVING OVER ONE PALLET FURTHER, I SPECIAL A SPECIAL TRUST.

WE HAD A SMALL GAME AND ABOUT 27 WHERE YOU SEND THEM DOWNS FROM THE DOMINANT FUNDING.

THAT WAS INTERESTING.

WE HAD A SINGLE EXPENDITURE ABOUT $428 FOR THE BLUFFTON DISTRICT COLLECTION.

OTHERWISE THAT ACCOUNT REMAINS UNCHANGED.

SO OVERALL WE'RE IN PRETTY GOOD SHAPE.

WHEN WE TAKE A LOOK AT OUR SPECIAL PLANS, WHAT I'D LIKE TO THEN MOVE OVER TO IS REALLY OUR EXPENDITURE REPORT.

AND AGAIN, THIS IS A DEGREE WE HAD SET THE CONCEPT OF USING THEIRS AND THIS FISCAL YEAR.

UM, SO, SO FAR WE ARE 67% THROUGH THE YEAR, BUT 59% SPENT EATING LATE A PERSONNEL AND OPERATING POS.

SO WE HAVE A NICE BALANCE.

THERE, WE ARE UNDERSPENT A LITTLE OVER 7% AND WE WERE UNDERSPENT MONETARILY BY ABOUT $320,000.

AGAIN, THIS REFLECTS UNUSUAL OPERATING CONDITIONS.

AND AS AMANDA POINTED OUT DURING OUR FINANCE COMMITTEE MEETING, WE STILL HAVE AT THIS POINT ABOUT 10 VACANCIES.

SO UNDERSTAND THAT BLAKE, YOU KNOW, WE ARE, WE ARE THE SPAN AND ACTIVITY REALLY.

HASN'T BEEN AT ITS NORMAL NORMAL LEVEL.

UH, HOPEFULLY THIS WILL COME TOGETHER.

UM, SO WE ARE IN GOOD SHAPE AGAIN, WHEN WE TAKE A LOOK AT OUR OPERATING BUDGET.

AND LASTLY, I'D LIKE TO TURN TO MY FAVORITE REPORT, WHICH IS MATERIAL FINANCIAL REPORT.

UM, THIS IS A YEAR TODAY.

WE HAVE SPENT 119,000 ON THE CHEERIOS.

NOW LOOKING FORWARD, WHAT DO WE HAVE TOGETHER? THE PLUS THE THIRD AND THE FOURTH INSTALLMENT, WHICH IS COMING OUT LATER ON THIS YEAR, ABOUT 35 TOGETHER WITH UNSPENT CHEERIOS IN OUR BUDGET, ABOUT 121,000.

OKAY.

WE HAVE OVER 693,000 POTENTIALLY TO EXPECT.

NOW I KNOW ADMINISTRATION PROBABLY WON'T SPEND ALL OF THAT, BUT THEY WANT US PORTION OF THAT, WHICH MEANS THAT ALL THOSE BEST SETTLERS, THAT WE ARE ALL LOOKING FORWARD TO SHOULD BE ON THE SHELVES ON THE QUANTITIES.

YOU KNOW, AS WE MOVE FORWARD THROUGHOUT THE YEAR, MOST OF OUR SPENDING YEAR TO DATE HAS BEEN A ROADBLOCK.

AGAIN, THIS IS WHERE WE ARE TODAY.

WHAT'S YOUR BALANCE ITSELF OUT AS THE FISCAL YEAR DRESSES, BUT IT IS AMAZING THAT 50% OF OUR SPIN THIS FAR, THIS YEAR IS REALLY ON DIGITAL MATERIALS.

OKAY.

WHEN WE TAKE A LOOK AT THE BOOKS AND LEAST THEY'RE ABOUT 37% THERE, UM, AND THE REST OF IT IS REALLY THE LIBRARY HAD BASIS THAT MOST OF THE MONEY FOR OUR MATERIALS SO FAR HAS COME FROM THE COUNTY BUDGET FOLLOWED BY STATING THAT 1,600 THAT SPENT SO FAR YEAR TO DATE.

WHEN WE TAKE A LOOK AT MATERIALS, WE PUT SHAPE AND WE HAVE A HEALTHY BALANCE TO BE SPENT.

AND I KNOW THE ADMINISTRATION WILL DO THEIR BEST TO SPEND EVERY SINGLE DOLLAR.

SO WRAPPING IT UP TOGETHER, I THINK WE'RE IN GOOD SHAPE AND OUR SPECIAL ACCOUNTS ON THE IMPACT FEES AND WHAT WE HAVE LEFT ON BUDGET.

CERTAINLY ISN'T MATERIAL SPENDING IS, WELL, THAT WRAPS UP MY REPORT.

AND IF THERE ARE ANY QUESTIONS OR OBSERVATIONS, VERY INFORMATIVE NOW, MOSTLY HAS SOMETHING TO SAY, YES, I WANTED TO CONGRATULATE AMANDA ON THIS WONDERFUL ARTICLE IN THE HILTON HAVING MONTHLY MAGAZINE.

AND THEY TOOK THIS OUT AND , AND I ALSO MAKE COPIES HERE SO THAT ALL OF US CAN SEE THIS WONDERFUL ARTICLE TALKING ABOUT.

I GOT A LITTLE BIT NERVOUS WHEN I SAW THAT

[00:25:04]

UP AT THE TOP.

MAYBE THEY WERE TALKING ABOUT MY DOG.

UH, I AM NOT EXPECTING A CHILD, BUT I DID WELCOME A BRAND NEW, UH, CABO FOOD TO MY HOUSEHOLD.

HE IS A MIXTURE OF A CAVALIER SPANIEL AND A POODLE, AND HE IS THE DELIGHT OF MY LIFE, TOBY.

AND HE'S NOW IN BETTER PUBLIC WORK.

OKAY.

WE'LL BE MATCHING IN THE ST PATRICK'S DAY PARADE IF ANYONE IS IN HILTON HEAD.

AND I WILL GIVE THAT REPORT, UH, FOUNDATION, UH, ON FEBRUARY 16TH AND THE NEXT MONTH WILL BE APRIL THE SIXTH.

UH, THEY WERE ABLE TO, UH, I HEARD SOME OF THE REQUESTS FOR FUNDING FOR, UM, AMANDA HIT ME FOR DIFFERENT ACTIVITIES IN THE LIBRARY.

SO THEY WERE ABLE TO FIND SOME OF THOSE, SO CONTINUE TO SEND DONATIONS IN BECAUSE IT'S A BIG HELP TO AMANDA FOR THINGS THAT ARE NOT PROPER FOR SPECIAL EVENTS.

UM, WHEREAS FOR THE LIBRARY.

YEAH, SURE.

UM, SO, UH, BUFORD FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY JUST WRAPPED UP THEIR BOOKS AT THE END OF THE MOST SANDWICHED IN THIS PAST MONDAY WAS SEVEN, UH, VERY SUCCESSFUL.

THEY OFFER, UH, VIRTUALLY VIA ZOOM, UH, DOING SOME QUOTING PROTOCOLS AND WHATNOT, UH, UNDERSTAND THAT IT WAS VERY SUCCESSFUL IN, UH, GRANT FROM JANUARY AND SOUTHERN MARCH 7TH.

UM, ADDITIONALLY IN THERE AND THEY WERE WORKING ON THOSE, THE STORY WALK, UM, THE SORT OF WALK AROUND AND SAFETY, UH, WHICH, YOU KNOW, IS A GREAT FUN ACTIVITY THAT KIND OF TEARS APART, A BOOK, SO TO SPEAK CHILDREN'S BOOK TYPICALLY AND ALONG THE WALKING ROUTE OR PARTICULAR GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION.

AND ALSO THAT'S A VERY FUN, UH, OUTDOORS, UH, THING TO DRAW CHILDREN, VOCATION AND SOLIDIFYING THAT.

AND SO THEY'RE WORKING IN MARIO, UH, COMPLETELY THAT THE NEXT MEETING IS TOMORROW.

UH, AND I'M SURE THEY'LL PROVIDE SOME MORE UPDATES THAT THEY CAN PROVIDE YOU FROM BOTH SANDWICHING AND, UH, SOME OF THE OTHER EVENTS THAT THEY HAVE GOING ON AT THE NEXT BOARD MEETING.

THANK YOU FOR THAT BEFORE AND LOCKED IN RELATIVELY, DO YOU HAVE ANYTHING TO ADD? YES.

THE FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY, UH, LOCKED IN, THEY HAVE A NEW BOARD, A NEW PRECEDENT, AND THEY ARE VERY BUSY AND TRYING TO RAISE MONEY.

THEY INCREASE THE AMOUNT THAT THEY WANTED TO RAISE FROM LAST YEAR BY $4,000.

UM, THEY LOVE THE IDEA OF THE STORY WALK AT THE BLUFFTON LIBRARY, AND THEY WANT TO RAISE MONEY TO BE ABLE TO DONATE ONE OF THE ITEMS TO THE STORY WALK.

UM, THEY ALSO PAID FOR SHELVING FOR THEIR AREA OF WHERE YOU CAN SELECT BOOKS TO PURCHASE.

SO THEY DID BUY SOME SHELVING OR THEY COMMITTED NEARLY $30,000 IN NEW SHELVING TO UPDATE THE FRIEND'S BOOK SALE CORNER, TO MATCH THE NEWLY RENOVATED LIBRARY SPACE.

THEY'RE REALLY QUITE AN ACTIVE GROUP.

THEY'VE GOT A MARKETING DIRECTOR WHO LIVES IN OUR COMMUNITY, AND I JUST SAW THE MARKETING THAT CAME THROUGH OUR COMMUNITY ON OUR WEEKLY NEWSLETTER.

SO THEY ARE BEING EXTREMELY ACTIVE NOW.

UM, THEY HAVE BUDGETED $7,500 FOR REGULARLY SCHEDULED LIBRARY PROGRAMS AND, UM, ADDITIONAL MONEY FOR OTHER ITEMS. AND I THINK THIS IS GOING TO BE A GREAT CHANGE FOR THE FRIENDS OF THE BOOK DONE LIBRARY.

I THINK THEY'RE GOING TO BE VERY ACTIVE.

I THINK THEY HAVE CERTAINLY CAME UP THERE BEFORE.

SO GIVE US AN IDEA OF, OF SOMETHING THAT THEY MIGHT DONATE FOR THE STORY WALK.

SO IT'D BE LIKE A BENCH OR WHAT WOULD BE, YEAH.

SOME OUTDOOR SEATING WHERE THEY MIGHT, WOULD ACTUALLY PAY FOR THE PRODUCTION OF THE STORYBOARDS THAT GO INTO THE CASES, UM, OR THEY MAY PAY FOR THE, IN THE ACTUAL STATIONS THEMSELVES.

BUT, UM, I'M WAITING TO SEE WHAT THE, UH, OUR PARTNER IN THIS PROJECT, THE, UM, HILTON HEAD, BLUFFTON CHAMBER CLASS, WHAT THEY FUNDRAISE AND THEN, UH, SEE HOW WE NEED TO SUPPLEMENT OR COMPLEMENT AND WHAT WE WOULD NEED TO, WHAT THEY WOULD NEED TO DO BEFORE I APPROACHED

[00:30:01]

THEM.

THE OTHER THING THAT I FORGOT TO MENTION IS WE HAVE A GIVING TREE AT THE BLUFFTON LIBRARY AND YOU CAN BUY LEAVES.

SO A BRONZE LEAF, COS HERE'S A BRONZE LEAF AND THERE'S A SILVER LEAF.

AND WHAT THIS ARTICLE WAS SHOWING WAS THE DONORS, PEOPLE WHO HAVE JUST DONATED RON'S LEAVES, UH, LEBRON'S LEAF STARTS AT $500.

AND I THINK, I THINK IT GOES UP TO 1500 AND THEN THE SILVER LEAF IT'S BEYOND THAT.

AND SO THESE LADIES WERE DONATING LEAVES TO THE TREE AND THIS IS A WAY THAT THEY KNOW TO RAISE HERE.

IT IS A COPPER TUESDAY COPPER LEAF.

SO 500 TO 1400 BRASS LEADS ARE 1500 TO 50,000.

IT'S CORPORATE, A LOT OF CORPORATE AND THEY WERE VERY PROUD TO ATTACH THEIR LEAD TO THE TREES.

YEAH, THANK YOU.

SO, UM, I WAS AT THE HILTON HEAD MEETING YESTERDAY AND THEY JUST GOT UPGRADES TO THE BOOKSTORE AND APPRECIATION GIFTS THAT THEY WERE GOING TO NOT HAVE A LUNCH.

AND AGAIN, THIS YEAR WE STARTED, UM, SEVERAL FRIENDS ARE JOINING THE BOOKMOBILE AND THE ST PATRICK'S DAY, SUNDAY, MARCH 13TH, MONDAY, UM, PROCEDURES WAS LIKE, DO WE HAVE ANY POLICIES OR PROCEDURES CHANGES TO DISCUSS NOT PRESENTLY.

OKAY, THANK YOU.

PLANNING DEANNA.

AMANDA.

OKAY.

I WOULD FIRST LIKE TO RECOGNIZE THAT DR.

PORTER HAS, UH, CHANGED HER MIND AND HIS CHOOSING TO SEEK REAPPOINTMENT IN THE LAST MEETING, YOU ANNOUNCED THAT YOU WERE NOT GOING TO SEEK REAPPOINTMENT, BUT YOU HAVE HAD A CHANGE OF HEART AND WE'LL CONTINUE.

UM, AND IN HER CAPACITY AS THE CHAIR OF THIS COMMITTEE, SHE HAS BEEN A WEALTH OF RESOURCES, ENCOURAGEMENT AND SUPPORT TO MYSELF AND JOSH AND OUR, OUR ADMINISTRATIVE TEAM IN DEVISING A VERY BROAD AND FORWARD THINKING APPROACH TO THE STRATEGIC PLAN.

YOU'VE HEARD US TALK ABOUT THIS FOR NOW TWO YEARS AS WE HAVE PAUSED IT AND UNPAUSE IT SEVERAL TIMES, BUT WE ARE FULL STEAM AHEAD AND WE ARE ON TARGET TO PRESENT TO YOU BY THE END OF THIS CALENDAR YEAR, A STRATEGIC TIMING FOR YOU TO REVIEW AND HOPEFULLY ADOPT.

UM, SO JUST MOVING INTO KIND OF THE TIMELINE ON THAT, UM, FROM NOW UNTIL JULY, WE'RE GOING TO GATHER AND ANALYZE DATA.

AND THEN IN AUGUST AND OCTOBER, WE'RE GOING TO INCLUDE YOU IN STAFF AND MAKING SURE THAT WE REACH A CONSENSUS ON WHAT THE STRATEGIC PLAN GOALS SHOULD BE, THE STRATEGIES, AS WELL AS THE TACTICS AND HOW WE ACTUALLY ACCOMPLISH THOSE GOALS.

WE MAY ALSO, UM, DECIDE WITH YOUR INPUT ON, UM, WHETHER OR NOT OUR MISSION AND VALUE STATEMENTS NEED TO BE REVISED FOR REVIEW OR PERHAPS REDESIGNED REDRAFTED.

AND THEN IN NOVEMBER AND DECEMBER WITH A BOARD RETREAT THAT YOU ARE ALL ALONG WITH REVIEW FOR, WE KNOW TO HONE ALL THAT INFORMATION AND ASK FOR YOU TO ADVISE MYSELF AND THE ADMINISTRATIVE TEAM IN DRAFTING, WHAT WILL BE THE STRATEGIC PLAN THAT YOU LATER, UH, CONSIDERED FOR ADOPTION OF TWO VERY IMPORTANT EVENTS IN THIS PROCESS THAT DID NOT HAPPEN BEFORE, UM, INVOLVE YOU? THE FIRST IS A BOARD DEVELOPMENT DAY, UM, INSTEAD OF HAVING A LONG, EIGHT TO FIVE DAY WHERE YOU'RE ALL ADULT TOGETHER WITH US, UM, GETTING LOTS OF INFORMATION AT ONE TIME, WE'D LIKE TO BREAK THAT UP INTO TWO SEPARATE EVENTS.

THE FIRST BEING A BOARD DEVELOPMENT DAYS IN WHICH WE WILL GO OVER TOGETHER, THE ROLES OR DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES OF BEING A LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEE, AS WELL AS HOW DOES OUR LIBRARY WORK, UM, A LOT MORE INFORMATION THAT YOU DON'T GET IN THESE MEETINGS, BUT THAT WOULD BE HELPFUL TO INFORM YOU OF HOW WE DO LIBRARY, SEARCH, HOW WE PROVIDE LIBRARY SERVICE.

AND THEN, UH, WE'LL ASK THAT YOU BE A PART OF THE FALL STAFF DEVELOPMENT DAY AS STAFF, AND YOU HOPEFULLY WE'LL WORK TOGETHER

[00:35:01]

TO BRAINSTORM AROUND THE STRATEGIES OF THE STRATEGIC PLAN.

AND THEN FINALLY A BOARD RETREAT IN OCTOBER, UM, WHERE YOU WOULD WORK CLOSELY WITH MYSELF IN LIBRARY ADMINISTRATION, STAFF, TO, TO WHITTLE ALL OF THAT INFORMATION THAT WE GATHERED GLEANED AND WORKED THROUGH TO FOLLOW THAT INTO A WORKABLE DOC THAT ACCURATELY DESCRIBE THAT.

YEAH, THAT SOUNDS PERFECT.

I HAVE JUST A COUPLE OF REMINDERS FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO SAT AT, WHO ARE ASSIGNED, YOU CAN SEE HERE AND YOUR NAMES TO BE ON THE STRATEGIC PLANNING COMMITTEE.

I WANT TO REASSURE YOU.

WE HAVEN'T BEEN HAVING MEETINGS WITHOUT, UH, WE HAVEN'T HAD A MEETING FOR TEA FOR TWO YEARS BECAUSE WE ACTUALLY, IT WAS ALMOST EXACTLY TWO YEARS TO THE DAY THAT WE MET AND THEN COVID YET.

UM, AND THE APPROACH THAT WE TALKED ABOUT IN THAT MEETING IS THE SAME SAYING FOUR PHASE APPROACH.

SO THAT'S THE FIRST THING I WANT TO SAY.

THE SECOND THING I WANT TO SAY IS THAT, UM, WE'RE VERY INTERESTED IN OUR, YOU KNOW, WE COME TO THIS BOARD WHERE YOU LOTS OF TALENTS, BUT MOST OF US DON'T COME WITH AN IN DEPTH UNDERSTANDING OF LIBRARIES AND WHAT THE TRENDS ARE IN LIBRARIES.

SO YOU WERE SENT BEFORE THE AMERICAN LIBRARY ASSOCIATION PRODUCES A REPORT ANNUALLY, AND YOU WERE SAID THAT SOMETIME AGO TO READ, TO MAKE YOURSELF, TO MAKE ALL OF US SMARTER ABOUT WHAT'S GOING ON WITH LIBRARIES, THE NEXT REPORT COMES OUT IN APRIL, RIGHT? IT SHOULD COME, IT COMES OUT IN APRIL.

AND SO WE'RE GOING TO SEND THAT TO YOU ALSO FOR YOU TO ALL READ THROUGH.

IT'S NOT, IT DOESN'T TAKE THAT LONG, BUT IT GIVES YOU A GOOD OVERVIEW OF NATIONWIDE THE WAY PEOPLE ARE THINKING ABOUT LIBRARIES AS CONVENING SPACES AND WHAT THAT MEANS.

AND, YOU KNOW, KIND OF, IT'S KIND OF LIKE THE LIBRARY OF THE 21ST CENTURY, RIGHT? UM, KIND OF STATE OF THE ART.

SO I WANT TO ENCOURAGE YOU TO DO THAT.

AND THE THIRD THING I'M GOING TO SAY, AMANDA WILL MENTION THIS IS WE DID HAVE WE HAD, I, I WANT TO CORRECT WHAT I SAID EARLIER.

WE HAD A STRATEGIC PLANNING COMMITTEE MEETING IN MARCH OF 2020, AND THEN WE HAD ONE, I THINK IN DECEMBER OF 2021, ABOUT THREE OR FOUR MONTHS AGO.

AND ONE OF THE THINGS WE DECIDED THERE WAS WHETHER WE WANTED TO DO FOCUS GROUPS AGAIN.

WELL, YOU CAN IMAGINE DECEMBER 20, 22, WE WERE STILL IN THE MIDDLE OF, YOU KNOW, ALMOST CRYING BIG TIME.

AND SO WE, WE DIDN'T KNOW HOW WE WOULD DO THAT.

CAUSE FOCUS GROUPS, WE WOULD YOU DO THEM ON ZOOM? WOULD YOU BRING THEM TOGETHER? HOW WOULD THEY WORK? AND I'M IN FACT, FRANKLY, DOING 12 FOCUS GROUPS, SEE LIKE A LOT OF WORK AND VERY INTIMIDATED TO ME.

SO AMANDA COULD TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THIS, BUT WE'VE CONTRACTED.

AMANDA HAS IDENTIFIED SOMEBODY WHO WE'VE CONTRACTED WITH WHO WE WILL DO OUR FOCUS GROUPS FOR US.

I THINK IT'S UP TO A DOZEN.

IS THAT THE NUMBER WE HAVEN'T VISITED? I HAVE A FULL ASK.

I HAVEN'T OFFICIALLY ENTERED INTO A CONTRACT WITH HIM AS I WANTED TO GET THE SUPPORT OF THIS BOARD.

FIRST, WE WOULD LIKE YOUR SUPPORT AND I CAN EXPLAIN IT IN DETAIL, WHAT HE, UH, WHAT THIS FIRM WOULD PROVIDE.

WE FOUND A LOCAL MARKETING FIRM, A MARKETING COMMUNICATIONS FIRM THAT, UM, HAS OFFERED, UH, SERVICES TO INCLUDE FACILITATING EIGHT TO 10 DIVERSE COMMUNITY FOCUS GROUPS ACROSS BUFORD COUNTY AND WITH THE OPTION TO DO A VIRTUAL ONE.

UM, SHOULD THAT BE ADVISABLE ALSO TO ADVISE, REVIEW AND ASSIST WITH OUR COMMUNITY SURVEY AND PROPOSE ANY CHANGES THAT MIGHT MAKE IT MORE MEANINGFUL AND GET MORE MEANINGFUL DATA TO US.

AND THEN THE ONE THAT IS MOST IMPORTANT TO ME IS DELIVERING AN EXECUTIVE SURVEY SUMMARY.

THAT INCLUDES ALL THE INFORMATION THEY GLEANED FROM THE FOCUS GROUPS IN COMMUNITY SURVEYS, BUT ALSO, UM, FORECASTING WHAT BUFORD COUNTY MIGHT BE LIKE IN THE NEXT THREE YEARS, AS WELL AS INPUT FROM NON-LIBRARY USERS.

IT'S INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT TO ME TO KNOW WHY PEOPLE DON'T USE.

AND SO GETTING AT, UM, ONE-ON-ONE INTERVIEWS OR GETTING THE COMMUNITY SURVEY INTO THE HANDS OF PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT USING THE LIBRARY IS VERY IMPORTANT TO ME.

SO I KNOW HOW WE CAN MAKE THE LIBRARY MORE APPEALING TO THE ENTIRETY OF BEAVER COUNTY.

SO AT THIS POINT I WOULD LIKE SOMEONE FROM THIS TEAM, THIS BOARD TO PRESENT A MOTION TO SUPPORT LIBRARY ADMINISTRATING AND LISTENING TO PROFESSIONAL SERVICES AS DESCRIBED.

UM, I JUST WANT TO SAY THAT AMANDA AND I MET WITH THE PERSON WHO SHE IDENTIFIED AND, UM, WE WERE VERY IMPRESSED WITH THE QUESTIONS HE ASKED AND HIS EXPERTISE AND PRICING AND EVERYTHING.

SO, UM, I THINK, I THINK HE'S REALLY, IT, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A LOT OF WORK FOR MANY OF THOSE VOLUNTEERS.

SO I THINK HE'LL DO A REALLY NICE JOB FOR US,

[00:40:01]

UM, UH, DATES OR, UH, WHAT ABOUT PLEASE CALL STAFF DEVELOPMENT DAYS FOR THAT? IT IS THE FIRST WEDNESDAY IN OCTOBER.

I BELIEVE THAT DOCTOR WILL SEND ME ALL THOSE DATES, ALL THE DATES, BUT I HAVEN'T CREATED A DATE YET FOR THE BOARD DEVELOPMENT DAY.

I HAD A DOODLE POLL READY TO SEND TO YOU AT THE END OF THIS MEETING TO FIND OUT YOUR AVAILABILITY FOR A DATE IN MAY FOR THAT FIRST INFORMATION SESSION OF THE ROLES AND DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES OF BEING ELABORATE BOARD OF TRUSTEES.

SO I'LL SEND YOU THAT TONIGHT.

OKAY.

ALL RIGHT.

THANK YOU SO MUCH.

SOUNDS LIKE GETTING IT, GETTING, GETTING IT DONE.

LYNNE, AMANDA, YOU MIGHT WANT TO MENTION ONE OTHER THING.

ONE OF THE, ONE OF THE THINGS YOU MIGHT WANT TO ASK IS, SO WHAT'S THE DELIVERABLE LOOK LIKE? DO YOU KNOW, WHAT, WHAT DOES THAT STRATEGIC PLAN LOOK LIKE? SO, AND I THINK AMANDA'S BEEN A REAL CREATIVE ABOUT WHAT THE OUTCOME WILL LOOK LIKE.

WHAT YOU'LL ACTUALLY HAVE IS HIS DELIVERABLES IN DECEMBER.

SO YOU WANT TO TALK ABOUT THE WAY WE'RE CONCEPTUALIZING IT NOW.

SURE.

UM, WE WOULD LIKE TO HAVE SOMETHING THAT IS, UM, SOME SORT OF A VISUAL IMAGE, WHETHER THAT'S AN INFOGRAPHIC OR WHETHER IT'S A PICTURE, WHETHER THAT'S A PORTRAIT, A PAINTING, WHATEVER, SOMETHING LIKE THIS, SOMETHING LIKE THIS, IT WOULD BE A ONE PAGER THAT'S STAFF AND YOU, AND I CAN JUST HAVE IN OUR BRAINS THAT, THAT THIS IS WHAT WAS REPEATED CLASSES.

UM, NOT THAT A LARGE DOCUMENT MAGAZINE STYLE ISN'T HELPFUL.

UM, BUT JUST SOMETHING THAT ADEQUATELY WE KNOW EXACTLY WHAT, WHAT OUR MARCHING ORDERS ARE FOR THE NEXT THREE YEARS.

YEAH.

WE WANT TO DO THIS AS WELL AS A 62ND OR LESS ANIMATED OR VIDEO OF, OF THAT.

SOME OF YOU WILL REMEMBER THE REALLY COOL VIDEO THAT THE LIBRARY STAFF DID ABOUT THE SUMMER READING PROGRAM LAST YEAR.

I DON'T KNOW IF YOU REMEMBER THAT.

THAT WAS REALLY COOL.

AND SO WE TALKED ABOUT THAT, THE LIBRARY STAFF PUTTING SOMETHING TOGETHER THAT WOULD, THAT WOULD BE LIKE THAT THAT WOULD BE 60 OR 90 SECONDS.

SO IT WOULD ALSO VISUALLY ILLUSTRATE HERE'S THE STRATEGIES YOUR LIBRARIES USING TO TRY TO MEET YOUR NEEDS.

UM, AND SO W WHAT WE WANT IS THE OUTCOME TO BE REALLY USER-FRIENDLY AND NOT SOME NOTEBOOK THAT GOES ON A SHOW, YOU KNOW, SO THOSE WOULD BE AVAILABLE BOTH TO LIKE THE PUBLIC ON THE WEBSITE AND EVERYTHING.

SO, SO WE CAN REALLY, ONE OF OUR GOALS IS TO HAVE THE PEOPLE STAFF AND EVERYBODY REALLY BE ABLE, IF YOU SAY TO A LIBRARY STAFF, YOU KNOW, WHAT ARE THE MAJOR STRATEGIES YOU'RE PURSUING TO MAKE ALL OF YOUR BETTER? WE WANT THE OUTCOME TO BE SOMETHING THAT'S SIMPLE THAT PEOPLE CAN, YOU KNOW, WE DON'T WANT IT TO BE A LIST OF 12 ITEMS THAT NOBODY CAN REMEMBER.

WE WANT IT TO BE SOMETHING THAT PEOPLE CAN REALLY IDENTIFY WITH AND TALK ABOUT WITH PASSION.

SO THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR PEOPLE GETTING THAT, GETTING THAT, UM, JOE, DO WE HAVE ANY CHANNEL MATERIALS TALKS ABOUT ANYTHING? DO YOU HAVE ANYTHING TO SAY FOR THE LIBRARY FACILITIES? YEAH.

BRING UP SOME INFORMATION.

FIRST OF ALL, AS WE DISCUSSED AT OUR JANUARY 12TH MEETING, UH, THE FIRST SECTION OR THE FIRST STAGE OF THE BLUFFTON LIBRARY RENOVATION WITH THE CHILDREN IS COMPLETE, AND IT'S NOW TIME TO MOVE FORWARD INTO THE NEXT PHASE OF THIS, UH, BEAUTIFUL, UH, NANCY DON'T SECTION AND THE STAMP FACILITIES AREA.

NOW I'D LIKE TO POINT OUT WHY WE NEED TO KEEP UP TO DATE.

EVERY COUNTY HAS A POPULATION AREA OF SERVICE AREA OF 187,005.

MARY HAS SEVEN LOCATIONS, BUFORD AND HELENA, AND THE BUFORD COCOA MEAL.

WE HAD 145,000 VISITS TO THE LIBRARY LAST YEAR, AND THAT WAS IN THE RESTRICTED TIME.

SO THAT'S SHOWS ME WE HAVE ANY 5,000 LIBRARY CARDS AND THE LIBRARY WAS STILL WAS ROLLING, $10,600 AND 29,000 REFERENCE QUESTION, 768,000 ITEMS ARE BORROWED FROM SEVEN.

AND WE BOASTED 131 PROGRAMS WITH 4,910 MEANS THE CHILDREN'S SECTION, UH, CHECKED OUT 165,000 BOOKS OR DIGITALLY.

AND YOU CAN SEE THE DEMAND IS GETTING GREATER.

AND I THINK THIS YEAR MORE BECAUSE WE'VE NAMED IT TO LOOSEN THE RESTRICTIONS, HOW WOULD WE BE OPEN SOCIAL

[00:45:01]

DISTANCING, UH, HOW BLANK TO MOVE, UH, GIVE AMANDA THE AUTHORITY TO ASK THE COUNTY FOR PERMISSION TO MOVE AHEAD WITH THE SECOND SECTION, THE ADULT SECTION STAFF.

SO, UH, IS THERE ANY SECOND TO THAT SECOND UM, WELL, I'VE MADE A BIT OF MY TALK TODAY.

SURE.

WHAT I, UM, WHAT I ASKED IN THIS FACILITIES UPDATE WAS I ASKED THAT MR. BURNEY PROVIDE, UH, EMOTION BASICALLY THAT, THAT YOU WOULD SUPPORT ME MOVING FORWARD TO GET APPROVALS FROM COUNTY ADMINISTRATION THROUGH OUR BUDGET PROCESS AND ALL THAT, TO GET THE ARCHITECTURE ENGINEERING STUDY DONE FOR THE BLUFFTON PHASE TWO, SO THAT WE KNOW WE HAVE THE PLANS, WE KNOW HOW MUCH IT'S GONNA COST, AND THEN WE CAN BETTER TIME.

AND WHEN WE DO IT, HOW WE DO IT AND THAT SORT OF THING, BUT THE FIRST STEP IN THE WHOLE PROCESS IS STARTING WITH THE STUDY THAT WE GET THE PLANS FOR.

AND WHILE WE'RE, UM, I JUST KNOW THAT WE HAD SEVERAL ON CAPITAL REQUEST AND PROJECTS IN THE, IN THE, IN, IN OUR WISHLIST.

AND I DON'T WANT, WHILE WE'RE WAITING ON SOME OF THE OTHER ONES TO COME ABOUT, I DON'T WANT TO LOSE ANY TIME.

I JUST WANT TO KEEP MOVING FORWARD SO THAT WE CONTINUE TO PROGRESS.

UM, , IT SEEMS TO HAVE SLOWED DOWN .

SO THERE HAS, AND I'LL SHARE THAT IN EXECUTIVE SESSION.

UH, I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO ON THAT I THINK THAT I MAY HAVE JUMPED ON THAT ISSUE IT WAS VERY IMPRESSIVE.

NEGATIVE GRADE.

YOU CAME ACROSS AS ENTHUSIASTIC AND, AND, UH, FUN.

AND, YOU KNOW, YOU REALLY HAD A GREAT PRESENCE.

I THOUGHT A BIT, IF YOU WANT.

YEAH.

UH .

IS THERE AN OLD BUSINESS AND NEW, I DID WANT TO SAY SOMETHING LIVING IN THE BLUFFTON AREA, LIVING WHERE WE LIVE IN OUR COMMUNITY, UM, IN THE 13 AND A HALF YEARS, I'VE BEEN LIVING DOWN HERE.

I HAVE NEVER SEEN THE AMOUNT OF NEW PEOPLE COMING HERE IN CALIFORNIA.

WE'VE GOT SO MANY PEOPLE COMING AND, AND YEAH.

AM I RIGHT AND REQUESTING INFORMATION FROM CALIFORNIA? I THINK IF I'VE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE IT.

SO I THINK THE LIBRARY IS GOING TO BE MORE AND MORE NEEDED BECAUSE WE JUST SERVE AS SO MANY NEEDS.

ABSOLUTELY.

I, I THINK IT, UH, I JUST, I JUST CAN REMEMBER WHEN WE HAD THAT ECONOMIC DOWNTURN AND THERE WAS, THEY WERE SAYING, OH, WE DON'T NEED THE LIBRARIES AND HOW IT IS JUST BLOSSOMED.

IT'S SO IMPORTANT NOW.

AND I THINK THE PUBLIC KNOWS NOW.

SO THANK YOU NOW, UH, PURSUANT TO, I THINK THAT, UH, ANY OLD BUSINESS OR NEW BUSINESS,

[00:50:01]

UM, UH, FOUR O'CLOCK LOCKTON BRANCH, AND, UH, PURSUANT TO SOUTH CAROLINA CODE, SECTION 30 DASH FOUR DASH 78 TO, UH, DISPATCH IN THAT NEGOTIATION INCIDENT.

SO I'M GOING TO CALL THE EXECUTIVE SESSION TO ORDER.

I THINK YOU HAVE TO HAVE A MOTION.

DO I HAVE AN EXECUTIVE SESSION? HEY GUYS, I'M ADAM FARBER WITH BEAVER COUNTY LIBRARIES, AND I WANTED TO TELL YOU ABOUT OUR NEW STREAMING SERVICE CALLED HOOPLA.

IT'S A FREE SERVICE FROM BUFORD COUNTY LIBRARIES.

I JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE YOU KNOW WHAT THEY ARE .

UM, OKAY, SO THANK YOU.

THERE WERE NO MOTIONS THAT WERE MADE OR APPROVED TRUSTEES AT FIVE 18, AND .
