[ First Public Comment]
SESSION.WE HAVE TEACHER COMMENTS, ANGELA, I'M CALLING FROM .
IF YOU HAVE THREE MINUTES AND IF YOU DID A NASH, GO AHEAD, ANGELA.
I'M CALLING TONIGHT ABOUT THE RESOLUTION THAT I'M HOPING OUR BOARD OF EDUCATION WILL CREATE A SENSE TALKING TO YOU AGAIN TONIGHT TO REQUEST THAT A RESOLUTION BE PUT FORTH EXPEDIENTLY FOR POWERFUL EDUCATION AND SCHOOL DISTRICTS REGARDING THEIR CURRENT PUBLIC WARRANTY POLICIES, THE RESOLUTION REQUEST YOU HAVE TO REEVALUATE IF ARGENTINA HEALTHY STUDENTS AND STAFF MEMBERS, AND I FIGURED THROUGH ANY AND ALL FORUMS BASED ON BACK-TO-BASICS PATENTS OR MAX RESOLUTION, SUCH AS THIS, YOU HAVE TO SEND IT TO SOME OTHER BOARDS OF EDUCATION ACROSS THE STATE.
MY HOPE IS THAT OUR BOARD OF EDUCATION CAN USE THE CURRENT DATA TO COME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT WE SHOULD ALSO SEND A RESOLUTION.
THIS IS ROBIN WHO SPOKE MORE TO PUT YOU ON PUBLIC COMMENTS.
UM, REMEMBER YOU HAVE THREE MINUTES AND IF YOU CAN STATE YOUR FIRST AND LAST.
THANKS FOR HAVING ME OUT TONIGHT.
UM, I, I COULDN'T HELP IT CALL AFTER GOING THROUGH MY THUMBS QUARANTINE LAST WEEK AND THE EXPERIENCE THAT WE WENT THROUGH, UM, AND FINDING OUT WHAT WAS GOING ON UP THERE IN THE DISTRICT OFFICE.
BUT, UM, ONE, ONE DAY MY SON WAS TAKEN OUT OF THE CLASSROOM AND SENTENCED TO BE IN THE, UM, UH, TIME FOR THE ENTIRE DAY TO LEARN VIRTUALLY AT SCHOOL, AFTER TESTING NEGATIVE AND NOT HAVING SYMPTOMS FOR SIX DAYS.
UM, THEN THE FOLLOWING DAY, WE WERE MET OUT IN FRONT OF THE SCHOOL WITH, UH, SOMEONE WEARING AN FBI SWEATSHIRT, UM, WHICH I DON'T GET IT.
UH, I DIDN'T THINK THAT WE HAD FBI AT THE SCHOOL AND IT ALIGNS SOME PARENTS.
AND I THINK IT'S DISGUSTING THAT YOU WOULD ALLOW SCHOOL STAFF TO WEAR THAT.
UM, THE FOLLOWING MONDAY, WHEN I, THE SCHOOL, WE STARTED TO WALK HIM IN AND HE WENT TO CLASS, ALL, UH, THE SECURITY GUARD.
AND, UH, HE WAS PRETTY INTIMIDATED BY THAT.
AND THEN THE KIDS JUST WANTED TO BE IN CLASS BECAUSE IT'S NOT NECESSARY TO DO THAT.
I THINK THE TEACHER OR SOMEBODY ELSE PROBABLY COULD HAVE PULLED HIM OUT OF CLASS, BUT THAT'S THREE TIMES MY SON'S CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS WERE VIOLATED UNDER THE PILLAR OF LAW.
SO I'M PUTTING HIM ON NOTICE WITH THAT.
UM, I'M REALLY DISAPPOINTED IN THE WAY YOU'RE TREATING THE SCHOOL DISTRICT AND OVERKILL.
AND ONE YEAR, I MEAN, NO, IT'S LESS THAN 500 CHILDREN HAVE DIED OF COVID IN ONE YEAR IN THE ENTIRE UNITED STATES, FAR MORE CHILDREN DIED FROM PNEUMONIA.
MORE CHILDREN HAVE DIED FROM OTHER ILLNESS.
CHILDREN ARE MORE LIKELY TO GET IN A CAR ACCIDENT AND DIED.
THAT'S THE DIET COVID I DON'T KNOW WHY WHEN WE GET THESE DIFFICULT RESTRICTIONS THAT ARE, THAT OVERSTEP THEIR CONSTITUTIONAL.
AND TO BE HONEST WITH YOU AS A PARENT, I DON'T SEE ANY REASON WHY YOU'RE KEEPING KIDS OUT OF SCHOOL THAT ARE
[00:20:01]
HOUSING WITH NO SYMPTOMS. YOU'RE NOT EVEN FOLLOWING THE LAW FROM THE, THAT A LOT OF STATES, IF YOU MAY EXCLUDE CHILDREN, THAT MUST BELIEVE IT IS VERY CLEAR.AND ALSO STATES THAT YOU MUST PROVIDE SOME MEDICAL EVIDENCE TO EXCLUDE A CHILD FROM SCHOOL, WHICH YOU FAILED TO DO WARRANTY.
I AM SICK DIFFERENT TIMES HAVE SOME MEDICAL EVIDENCE THAT HE WAS EXPOSED TO COVID AND I GOT NOTHING.
SO YOU NEED TO CHANGE THE WAY YOU HANDLE THAT.
YOU'RE GOING TO FIND IT YOURSELF AT THE END OF THE STICK WITH THIS, I'M TELLING YOU RIGHT NOW, YOU NEED TO BE AWARE OF WHAT'S GOING ON BECAUSE YOU ARE VIOLATING CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS UNDER COLOR OF LAW.
AND THIS IS NOT A CIVIL LAWSUIT WHATSOEVER.
[Chairman's Report]
REPORT.I JUST WANT TO REMIND ALL THE BOARD MEMBERS THAT YOU HAVE TO FILE YOUR STATEMENT OF ECONOMIC INTERESTS WITH THE ETHICS COMMISSION BY MARCH 30TH.
SO I'M THAT TWO MONTH HEADS UP HERE.
YOU DON'T HAVE TO WAIT TILL MARCH 30TH, YOU CAN DO IT.
SO THERE IS, THERE'S A SIGNIFICANT, UM, PENALTY ASSOCIATED WITH NOT JOINING.
I ALSO WANTED TO UPDATE EVERYONE ON WHAT WE ACCOMPLISHED THAT THE WORK SESSION, ALTHOUGH EVERYONE HERE, ALL THE BOARD MEMBERS WERE THERE.
SO THEY ARE, BUT WE COVERED A LOT OF THINGS.
I THINK IT WAS PRETTY PRODUCTIVE.
WE APPROVED THE RIVERVIEW CHARTER SCHOOL ANNUAL REPORT.
WE'VE GOT AN EXCELLENT PRESENTATION ON, UM, CTE TECHNOLOGY INITIATIVES.
IT WAS JUST LIKE, I CAN'T SAY ENOUGH ABOUT, ABOUT THAT PRESENTATION.
WE TALKED ABOUT RIGHT CHOICES, STRUCTURE, PROCESSES, AND SPECIAL ED SERVICES POINTED OUT SCENARIOS WILL BE LOOKED INTO.
WE HAD PRIORITY SCHOOLS UPDATE.
YOU TALKED ABOUT RE-ENGAGING VOLUNTEERS AND THAT MELDED A LITTLE BIT, OUR NEXT STRATEGIES FOR PREVENTING TEACHER BURNOUT.
AND WE HAD KIND OF A BRAINSTORMING SESSION, BUT IN THE END, UM, DR.
RODRIGUEZ IS TASKED TO COME UP WITH SOMETHING IN ADDITION TO WHAT'S ALREADY GOING ON QUITE A BIT, BUT WE NEED TO, WE NEED TO COME UP WITH SOMETHING SOMETHING WANT, CAUSE WE ALL KNOW THERE IS BURNOUT.
WE'VE TALKED ABOUT STUDENT PERFORMANCES AND WHEN CELEBRATION FORMAT, WHETHER THEY SHOULD BE IN PERSON OR CONTINUE TO BE ASSUMED.
WELL, I BELIEVE OUR CONCLUSION WAS THAT PARENTS WHO WANT TO COME VERSUS WE WELCOMED THAT IT'S NOT, WE'VE TALKED ABOUT COMMITTEE MEETINGS, WHETHER WE NEEDED A LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEE, AS OPPOSED TO JUST STAYS ON THE OVERWHELMING COMMITTEE.
AND WE HAVE FILLED THE COMMITTEE IS THE CHAIR AND TRICIA RICH AND RANDY ARLEDGE IS STAFF PERSON ASSIGNED.
SO WE'VE GONE FROM HAVING NO LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEE TO HAVING A COMMITTEE OR FOUR PEOPLE ALL APPROVAL.
I KNOW ARE PRETTY DEDICATED TO THE SOMEWHAT ABOUT BOARD COMMITTEE.
AND WE'VE HAD THIS DISCUSSION MANY TIMES ABOUT THE OLYMPIC ORDER MEETINGS AND, UM, AND WHAT WE CAN DO TO REDUCE THAT WE MEETING MINUTES FORMAT.
WE DISCUSSED THAT AND WE'RE GOING TO TRY THAT TONIGHT.
OR WE SUMMARIZE SOME THINGS BEFORE WE BREAK UP, BEFORE WE ENDURE, WE SAW OUR EYES, OH, WHAT WAS DONE? AND THOSE WOULD BE THE MINUTES.
ANY BOARD MEMBERS HAVE ADDITIONS OR SUGGESTIONS FOR CORRECTIONS, IF YOU DO IT BEFORE WE ADJOURN AND THEN THE MINUTES WILL BE READY.
UM, SO IT MEETS NEEDS TO THE POINT WHERE OUR DEADLINE MAKES IT EASIER ON ME, ADMINISTRATIVE FOLKS ALSO.
AND IT ALSO MAKES IT EASIER ON BOARD MEMBERS.
I'M NOT TRYING TO REMEMBER WHAT HAPPENED.
SOME OFFICERS HAVE SHORT-TERM MEMORIES I'M ON THAT COMMITTEE
[00:25:06]
RESULTS SEXUALLY OUT RESULTS COMMITTEE WHO WAS GOING TO FOCUS ON THE RESULTS SECTION POLICY VALUE ALSO INCORPORATES SUPERINTENDENT'S REVIEW RESULTS SECTION OF THAT CAREER.AND IF WE APPROVE THE REVISED SAYING YOUR WORK, SOME WE DID ALL THAT ADJOURNED ON TIME.
UM, SO YOU NOW SET A PRECEDENT FOR OURSELVES.
[Committee Reports]
REPORTS AND ACADEMICS.THE FIRST ACADEMIC COMMITTEE MEETING OF THE NEW YEAR WAS JANUARY 26.
AND AT THAT TIME WE HAVE TWO PRESENTATIONS FROM DR.
STRATUS AND HER STAFF AND WE HAVE BROUGHT FORWARD, UM, ONE OF THE PRESENTATIONS.
IT IS THE PROFILE OF THE BUFORD COUNTY GRADUATE.
STRATOSE, WE WILL TAKE IT FROM HERE.
YOU'VE BEEN BOILING RIVERS THIS EVENING.
I HAVE KAREN MCKENZIE WHO PRESENTED AT THE ACADEMIC COMMITTEE.
SHE'S GOING TO BE BRINGING BOTH THE PROFILE OF YOUR GROUP.
YOU HAVE NO CONFIRMATION SUSPICION BERRY.
SO WHAT DID I DO HAVE THE PLEASURE OF INTRODUCING ONCE AGAIN, KAREN MCKINSEY, OUR NEW DIRECTOR FOR TEACHING LARGE AND SECONDARY SHE'S PICKED UP ON THIS INITIATIVE AND BEEN WORKING WITH OUR TEAM AND IS MCKINSEY.
STRATOS AND THANK YOU, CHAIRMAN AND BOARD FOR THIS OPPORTUNITY TO SHARE THE PROFILE WITH YOU TONIGHT, I'M EXCITED ABOUT THE WORK THAT WE'RE DOING AND EXCITED THE WAY IT'S GOING FOR OUR SCHOOLS.
I WANT TO START WITH OUR GOAL TO REMIND YOU THE GOAL HAS THREE POINTS AND THAT IS THAT OUR STUDENTS WILL GRADUATE WITH DIGNITY, RESPECT, AND PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY.
THERE ARE FOUR PILLARS OF OUR PROFILE, AND THOSE ARE A GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP, HISTORICAL KNOWLEDGE, FINANCIAL LITERACY, AND ECO LITERACY.
SO WHERE ARE WE NOW? WE HAVE OUR PROFILE COMPLETE.
AND SO WHAT THE STAGE RIGHT NOW IS WE'RE DEVELOPING UNITS OF STUDY AND THOSE ARE GOING TO BE AT ALL LEVELS.
THEN WE'LL BE ALIGNED WITH THE TOPICS OF THE PROFILE, BUT THEY'RE ALSO GOING TO BE ALIGNED WITH OUR STATE STANDARDS.
WE WILL HAVE INITIAL UNITS COMPLETED AND READY FOR OUR 2223 SCHOOL YEAR.
SO I'M GOING TO SHARE A COUPLE EXAMPLES WITH YOU NOW, AND THIS IS AN ELEMENTARY EXAMPLE, AND THIS ONE IS LOW COUNTRY LIVING PROJECT.
IT IS A FOURTH GRADE UNIT AND ONE FITS UNDER THE LOW COUNTRY ECOSYSTEM.
AND I JUST WANT TO WALK YOU THROUGH THE WAY THAT WE'VE DEVELOPING THESE.
IF YOU'LL NOTICE ELA AND SOCIAL STUDIES ARE CONNECTED HERE, UM, FOR THE STUDENTS AND FOR THE TEACHER.
SO WE WANT TO MAKE SURE WE'RE MAKING THOSE RICH CONNECTIONS AHEAD OF TIME.
YOU'LL SEE THAT THE STANDARDS ARE LISTED.
AND MOST OF THOSE ARE PRETTY CLEAR EXCEPT FOR MAYBE SOCIAL STUDIES.
UM, OUR SOCIAL STUDIES STATE STANDARDS WENT TO SKILLS BASED FOCUS.
SO THAT JUST MEANS COMPARISON.
SO YOU'LL SEE, WITHOUT THIS, THROUGHOUT THIS UNIT, WE'RE GOING TO BE ASKING STUDENTS TO COMPARE, DO CAUSE AND EFFECT THAT TYPE THING AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS PAGE IS THE ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS.
AND WE'VE TRIED TO EMBED THOSE INTO EACH UNIT.
SO THAT, THAT KIND OF GIVES AN OVERALL, WHAT ARE WE TRYING TO LEARN FROM THIS PARTICULAR UNIT? OKAY, THIS MISSIONARY, THANK YOU.
UM, NOW OF THE, OF UNIT FOUR ELEMENTARY AND IT CONTINUES, IT GOES BACK AND LIST THAT OVERALL PROJECT.
SO WHEN ELA AND SOCIAL STUDIES WE'LL BE WORKING TOGETHER ON THAT LOW COUNTRY ENVIRONMENT OF POSTER AND MATH AND SCIENCE ARE GOING TO BE WORKING TOGETHER ON THAT SYMMETRICAL, UM, DESIGN OF AN ANIMAL IN A 2D OR 3D HABITAT, IT GOES IN AND GIVES THOSE.
THAT'S REALLY THE STATEMENT FOR STUDENTS.
SO TEACHERS WILL BE PUTTING THOSE ON THE BOARD AND IT'S KIND OF KIND OF GEAR OUR STUDENTS.
THIS IS WHAT YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO SAY.
I CAN DO AT THE END OF THIS UNIT.
WE'RE ALSO EMBEDDING THOSE ASSESSMENTS AND FOR THIS UNIT, UM, THOSE ASSESSMENTS ARE GIVEN AHEAD OF TIME FOR THE STUDENTS.
SO AGAIN, IT'S BACK TO THAT POSTER FOR ELA AND SOCIAL STUDIES WORKING TOGETHER AND MATH AND SCIENCE IS BACK TO THAT SYMMETRICAL.
[00:30:01]
UNDER RUBRICS IT SAYS PENDING, AND THAT IS NOT BECAUSE WE DON'T HAVE IN MIND WHAT WE WANT OUR RUBRICS TO LOOK LIKE.BUT WHAT WE'VE DECIDED TO DO IS RATHER THAN DEVELOP HUNDREDS OF RUBRICS FOR STUDENTS AND TEACHERS, WE WANT TO GET OUR PLACE AND THEN DEVELOP A FEW CONCEPTUAL BRITS THAT OUR STUDENTS CAN KIND OF COUNT ON.
UM, AND THEN AT THE VERY BOTTOM, WE'VE ADDED CHECKPOINTS FOR OUR TEACHERS AND OUR STUDENTS.
SO JUST A FORMATIVE CHECKPOINT, HOW IS IT GOING? HOW, HOW ARE WE PROGRESSING TOWARDS MASTERY ON THIS STANDARD? AND WITH THIS PILLAR OF HER PROFILE, THIS IS A REALLY EXCITING UNIT.
I TRY NOT TO GET TOO EXCITED ABOUT THIS ONE, BUT THIS IS A GREAT TIE-IN FOR HISTORY AND FOR ELA, BUT VERY EXCITED ABOUT THIS.
THIS WILL BE SHOWCASED AT OUR AFRICAN-AMERICAN HISTORY EDUCATION CONFERENCE IN FEBRUARY.
THIS UNIT IS BEING DEVELOPED BY ONE OF OUR MIDDLE SCHOOL TEACHERS.
UH, MEGAN HUTTOE AT BLUFFTON METAL, AND THIS IS A DOCUMENT BASED QUESTION UNIT.
SO THIS AGAIN IS GOING BACK TO CONNECT TO SOCIAL STUDIES AND ELA, UM, WITH THE STUDENTS DIGGING INTO PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SOURCES BASED ON A QUESTION THAT THEY'RE TRYING TO ANSWER, AND THEY'LL BE ANSWERING THAT IN SEVERAL WAY.
THIS ONE IS ON RACHEL CRANE MATHUR AND WHAT IS HER LEGACY? THERE IS A TOPIC I CAN'T GIVE AWAY WHERE THAT TOPIC OF RISE AND SHINE CAME FROM, BUT IF YOU WILL JOIN US AT THE CONFERENCE, I'M SURE YOU WILL FIND OUT AT THE BOTTOM.
SO THAT'S A REALLY GOOD IMAGE OF AS MS. MATHER THERE, AND THEN THERE'S A QUOTE FROM HER.
SO THE STUDENTS WILL REALLY START BY ASKING QUESTIONS ABOUT WHAT DOES THIS QUOTE MEAN AND HOW DOES IT FIT INTO HER LEGACY? THAT LITTLE SECOND PAGE OVER ON THE SIDE GIVES YOU THE TOPIC.
AND IT IS WHAT IS THE LEGACY OF MRS MATHERS? AND OF COURSE, MOST OF US ARE GOING TO SAY IT'S THE MATTER OF SCHOOL, BUT SHE DID SO MUCH, UM, HER RESPONSE TO THE HURRICANE IN 1894, HER FEEDING OF, UM, PEOPLE IN POVERTY, THERE'S SO MUCH THAT SHE DID THAT.
IT REALLY OPENS THE STUDENTS UP TO DIG INTO THOSE PRIMARY RESOURCES AND DETERMINE FOR THEMSELVES, UM, WHAT WAS HER LEGACY.
AND THEN THEY'LL RESPOND TO THAT QUESTION WITH SOME EVIDENCE.
SO THE NEXT PAGE JUST WANTED TO GIVE YOU A LITTLE SAMPLE OF WHAT SOME OF THAT INFORMATION WILL LOOK LIKE FOR THE STUDENTS.
THIS IS A PRIMARY SOURCE DOCUMENT THAT WE SECURED FROM PEOPLE AT COUNTY LIBRARY.
WE ALSO HAVE THE ORIGINAL LETTERS OF MS. MATH THAT HAVE BEEN PROVIDED US BY THE MATHER SCHOOL.
AND WE'VE REACHED OUT TO OTHER LIBRARIES AROUND THE COUNTRY WHERE HER WORK IS ALSO NOTED.
UM, AN EXAMPLE OF THAT IS WE HAVE A PENDING REQUEST WITH CHICAGO'S PUBLIC LIBRARY, BUT THE STUDENTS WILL DIG INTO THIS PRIMARY RESOURCE AND THEY'LL DETERMINE THE ANSWER TO THAT QUESTION BASED ON WHAT THEY LEARN.
SO WHAT KIND OF LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES AND TRIPS ARE WE GOING TO PROVIDE OUR STUDENTS AND OUR TEACHERS WRAPPED AROUND THE PROFILE? UM, OBVIOUSLY THE FIRST AND FOREMOST IS THAT AFRICAN-AMERICAN HISTORY EDUCATION CONFERENCE.
UH, I KNOW THAT DR CAMPBELL'S WORKING HARD AND THAT IS GOING TO BE AN AMAZING LEARNING OPPORTUNITY FOR US AS EDUCATORS AND FOR OUR COMMUNITY.
UM, THE MATHER SCHOOL, OUR PARTNER AND PENN CENTER, THE HISTORY MUSEUM AND THE SOUTH CAROLINA STATE MUSEUM, THE SOUTH CAROLINA HISTORY MUSEUM DOES A LOW COUNTRY FOCUS ONCE A YEAR.
SO WE DEFINITELY WANT TO MAKE SURE WE ACCESS THAT AND THE ECONOMICS COUNCIL.
UM, WE'VE ALREADY DONE ONE CONTEST WITH OUR LOWER GRADES WITH THEM, UH, FEED THE PIG, UM, WITH OUR FIRST GRADERS AND KINDERGARTNERS, BUT WE'RE WORKING ON SOME OTHER UNITS RIGHT NOW THROUGH THEM FOR OUR MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS AS WELL.
UM, THE MARITIME CENTER AND MUSEUM, THEY HAVE BEEN INSTRUMENTAL IN HELPING US.
WE HAVE DEVELOPED SOME, UM, ZOOM THAT THEY HAVE DONE ZOOMS AND OUR TEACHERS ARE CURRENTLY USING THOSE RESOURCES AND THEIR WORK WITH THE RIVER OF WORDS, COASTAL DISCOVERY MUSEUM, ANOTHER GREAT PARTNER OF BUFORD COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT WHO WORKS WITH US.
AND OF COURSE THEY DO A LOT OF WORKSHOPS FOR OUR TEACHERS, UM, VIRTUAL FIELD TRIPS.
THAT'S GONNA REALLY HELP US RIGHT NOW.
WE'RE REALLY LOOKING AT HOW WE CAN GET INTO THOSE PLACES THAT AREN'T CURRENTLY OPEN, BUT WE STILL WANT TO BE ABLE TO SHARE THAT EXPERIENCE WITH OUR STUDENTS.
SO WE'RE, WE'RE LOOKING AT MORE FULFILLED TRIPS AND OF COURSE ALWAYS SEEKERS, HERE WE GO, PROFESSIONAL LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES.
WE'RE TRYING TO BE VERY STRATEGIC IN WHAT WE'RE OFFERING OUR TEACHERS.
AND OF COURSE, AGAIN, GOING BACK TO THAT AFRICAN-AMERICAN HISTORY CONFERENCE, THAT'S GOING TO BE A VALUABLE TIME FOR OUR TEACHERS TO REALLY SEE OUR HISTORY AND THE UNTOLD STORIES.
[00:35:01]
THAT'S REALLY IMPORTANT TO US, THE MARITIME CENTER AND DISCOVERY MUSEUM.I JUST TALKED A LITTLE BIT ABOUT, THEY ARE GOING TO HELP US DO SOME TEACHER WORKSHOPS AS WELL, REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THE SOUTH CAROLINA SOCIAL STUDIES COUNCIL.
THEY ARE CURRENTLY DOING A MONTHLY FOCUS.
AND RIGHT NOW, JUST AS AN EXAMPLE, FEBRUARY THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA CENTER FOR CIVIL RIGHTS, THEY ARE DOING ONE ON PRESERVING OUR PLACES IN HISTORY IN THE CLASSROOM.
I MEAN, HOW WONDERFUL IS THAT FOR THE WORK THAT WE'RE DOING? SO THAT'S AWESOME.
AND THEN WE WILL CONTINUE OUR WORK ON DEVELOPING, DOCUMENTED QUESTIONING UNITS, LIKE THE ONE THAT WE'RE PAYING FOR, UM, THE RACHEL MATHER STORY.
AND THE GREAT THING ABOUT THOSE IS THEY TEACH THE HISTORY AND THE CONTENT, BUT THEY ALSO TEACH THOSE RICH LITERACY PROCESSES AND THOSE HISTORICAL ANALYSIS PROCESSES TO OUR STUDENTS ALONG THE WAY.
AND THEN WHAT OUR NEXT STEPS, OUR NEXT STEP SAYS WE ARE, WE ARE GOING TO BE SHARING THIS WITH ALL TEACHERS AT THE SUMMER INSTITUTE AND THEN OUR AUGUST DISTRICT PER, UH, PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT.
WE'RE ALSO GOING TO SHARE THIS WITH OUR PRINCIPALS AND WE FEEL THAT IT'S VERY IMPORTANT TO PROVIDE OUR PRINCIPALS WITH A CONSISTENT MESSAGE TO TAKE BACK TO THEIR SCHOOL COMMUNITIES FOR PRESENTATION.
SO WE'LL BE DOING THAT AS WELL.
THIS IS GOING TO BE SHOWCASED ON OUR BUFORD COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT, WEB PAGE, AND VERY EXCITED ABOUT TAKING THOSE NINE COMPONENTS OF OUR FOUR PILLARS AND EACH MONTH WE'LL BE SHOWCASING.
SO OUR COMMUNITY WILL GET TO SEE NOT ONLY WHAT IS THIS COMPONENT OF THE PILLAR ABOUT, BUT WHAT'S THE, WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE IN ACTION IN OUR SCHOOLS? SO THAT'S, THAT'S GOING TO BE REALLY EXCITING FOR US.
AND I JUST REALLY WANTED TO END, UM, BY BRINGING YOU BACK TO THE PROFILE, IT IS BEAUTIFUL.
UM, IT WAS THE PRIMARY WORK OF JERRY HENDERSON AND HER GROUP, BUT IT IS A BEAUTIFUL PROFILE, BUT IT'S SO MUCH MORE THAN THAT.
IT IS A GREAT WAY FOR US TO BE ABLE TO ENSURE THAT WHEN YOU LEAVE BUFORD COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT, YOU KNOW ABOUT OUR HISTORY AND YOU GRADUATE WITH DIGNITY AND RESPECT AND PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR LETTING ME SHARE THIS WITH YOU TONIGHT.
AND FOR ALLOWED ME TO WORK ON THE PROFILE.
I DON'T SEE ANY HANDS, BUT I'LL SAY OUTSTANDING PRESENTATION DOCTOR.
ARE WE AWARE OF ANYBODY ELSE IN THIS STATE HAS A LOCALIZED PROFILE LIKE THIS? NO, THIS WE'RE AFRAID TO BE.
NEWGRASS NOT ONLY THAT, THAT, UM, I'VE GOT A FULL BALL OUT ABOUT A MONTH AND A HALF FROM A GENTLEMAN WHO HE BASICALLY WORKED WITH THE SUPERINTENDENTS ASSOCIATION NATIONALLY.
AND HE HAD HEARD THAT WE WERE WORKING ON A WHOLE FILE OF THE GRADUATES FOR OUR SPECIFIC SCHOOL DISTRICTS FOR OUR STUDENTS.
AND, UM, HE WANTED TO KNOW IF HE COULD TAKE A LOOK AT IT BECAUSE HE HAD SOME OTHER COLLEAGUES THAT WERE INTERESTED IN MOVING ALONG THAT WAY AND TRY AND FIND THEM.
SO ACROSS THE NATION, THERE DOESN'T EVEN REALLY SEEM TO BE A WHOLE LOT LIKE THAT.
UH, NO, NOT AWARE OF ANYBODY IN THE STATE.
UH, MR. DISTRIBUTOR, UM, JUST A COMMENT AND, AND DR.
STRATOS, IF YOU DIDN'T HAVE YOUR MASK ON, I THINK I SAW YOU SMILING FROM EAR TO EAR, UM, AT MS. MCKENZIE'S PRESENTATION.
AND I JUST WANT, IF YOU WOULD PLEASE, MS. HENDERSON, THANK HER.
KAREN, EVERYTHING YOU PUT YOUR HANDS ON FROM THE DISCIPLINE MATRIX TO THIS, WE KNOW A QUALITY WORK IS COMING OUT.
SO THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR WORK ON THIS, AND PLEASE EXTEND THIS TO EVERYBODY WHO'S BEHIND THIS FABULOUS MANIFESTATION OF AN IDEA THAT GERMINATED HERE, YOU KNOW, I THINK IT'S JUST KIND OF WAS ORGANIC.
WHAT ABOUT OUR OWN PROFILE? AND YOU GUYS RAN WITH THIS, DR.
RODRIGUEZ, PLEASE LET EVERYONE KNOW THAT WE'RE PART OF THIS.
THIS IS SOMETHING SO TO BE PROUD OF AND GREAT, GREAT WORK.
THANK YOU SO MUCH HERE IN SUPERIOR.
I JUST WANT YOU TO SAY THANK YOU.
UM, I DO A REVERB THINKING ABOUT MRS. .
[00:40:02]
SO MY QUESTION IS WHEN, WHEN WILL THIS PROGRAM ACTUALLY START AND WHEN WILL IT SAY, UM, AUGUST DOING THE INSTRUCTIONAL LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE AND WE'LL CONDUCT OUR DIVISION NEW RELEASE OF THE INSTRUCTIONAL UNITS, WE'LL BE GIVING OUT TO OUR EDUCATORS.WE'LL SIGN UP FOR THIS SEGMENT.
BRIANA WILL GO OUT TO ENGLISH, LANGUAGE ARTS AND SOCIAL STUDIES TEACHERS.
SO WE WILL HAVE A PRESENTATION AS PART OF THE INSTRUCTIONAL LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE, AND WE'LL KIND OF WALK US AND WE'LL USE CONTINUUM, A DIP IN SEGMENT FROM THE PILLARS.
WE'LL DO RELEASE MONTHLY TO APPROPRIATE GRADE BANDS AND EITHER ELEMENTARY OR SECONDARY, SIR.
AND IT ALSO COMES, I SAY, NO, THIS IS INTERESTING HOW WE HAVE A 400, SHE BREAKS IT DOWN TO BE FOUR FILTERS.
AND IF YOU DIDN'T KNOW THAT, UH, WE HAVE YOU FOR HIGH SCHOOL KIND OF CAME TOGETHER WITH THE TIDAL WAVES AND, UH, THE ST HELENA HIGH SCHOOL AND ROUND WAS SMALL.
IF YOU WOULD GO THROUGH, PERHAPS WITH YOUR HIGH SCHOOL, HAVE THE, PROBABLY FOUR POSTS THAT HAVE SOME OF THE PHOTOS OF HOW THEY ALL CAME TOGETHER, THAT THE SCHOOL IS ON THE COLUMNS.
UH, WE WALKED INTO THE SCHOOL AND HOW I WAS THERE AT A BASKETBALL GAME, AND I WAS JUST TALKING TO SOME PEOPLE ABOUT THIS.
AND, UM, THE PILLAR OF THE, HAVE THE SCHOOLS CAME TOGETHER.
AND THEN, UH, I, I, I HAVEN'T BEEN TO OUR , YOU KNOW, IT'S INTERESTING HOW HATCHES IS BROKEN DOWN IN THE FOUR FLOOR.
AND BACK THEN, IN THE WAY, HOW THEY'RE TELLING YOU THE HISTORY WITHIN THE SCHOOL ARE BROKEN DOWN THROUGH A BUILDER.
I THINK, TELL ME ABOUT THE TEAM IS CAMPBELL WAS TALKING ABOUT AT ONE TIME, UH, WHEN YOU FORMED WAS OUR PROJECT UP TO THE, UH, TO THE BOARD.
AND THAT'S WHEN I SAY I APPRECIATE Y'ALL THE LEARNING SHE SAID, AND JUST KEEP UP THE GOOD JOB WHEN YOU , YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU WANT TO EXPECT.
APPRECIATE THAT FROM BACKGROUND REASONS THAT WHEN YOU AS WELL, YOU'D LOVE, OKAY.
THAT CONCLUDES THE ACADEMIC COMMITTEE PRESENTATION.
OUR NEXT MEETING IS FEBRUARY 23RD, AT FOUR 30.
YOU'RE ALL INVITED TO JOIN US, BUT WE WILL GET OUR MEDIUM.
SO THE COMMITTEE RECENTLY MET, UM, AND WE RECEIVED A WONDERFUL PRESENTATION, UH, FROM THE TOWN OF BLUFFTON.
WE HAD MAYOR SOCA ON, UM, THE, UH, AND YOU KIND OF MANAGER.
AND, UH, I'M JUST GOING TO POINT TO SOME, UH, IMPORTANT PIECES THAT WERE ACCESSED.
FIRSTLY, I WANT TO THANK COLONEL GEIER FOR HIS SERVICE ON THE COMMITTEE, UM, AND WANTED TO WELCOME DR.
BLATZ TO THE COMMITTEE, UM, POLITICAL THAT WE'RE GOING TO GIVE SOME, THE WORD DONE THIS YEAR.
UM, ONE OF THE THINGS THAT I WANTED TO POINT OUT FIRSTLY, IS ON THE PAGE THAT HAS THE CERTIFICATES OF OCCUPANCY THAT ARE, UM, ISSUE FOR SITE FOR A BUILDING PERMIT PERMIT ISSUED BY CALENDAR YEAR.
UM, AND WHAT YOU WILL NOTE THERE IS THAT IT HAS 20, 21 TO DATE AT 858 NEW SINGLE FAMILY MULTIFAMILY, RESIDENTIAL HOMES LISTED, BLOCKED IN ALREADY.
UM, SO WE HAD A DISCUSSION ABOUT THAT NUMBER, UM, BECAUSE THERE ARE SOME OVER 55, UM, RESIDENTIAL APARTMENTS FOR US.
UM, SO WE WANTED TO KNOW BASICALLY HOW MANY OF THOSE, UH, WERE REPRESENTATIVE THAT 800 NUMBER.
SO WE'RE WAITING ON THAT INFORMATION.
UM, THERE WERE SOME CONSIDERATIONS BROUGHT FORWARD FROM THE TOWN, UH, THAT ARE ON SOME OF THE LAST PAGES, SORRY, THE PAGE NUMBER HERE, BUT IT'S TITLED VARIATIONS AT THE TOP.
AND, UM, BASICALLY THE TOWN IS LOOKING FOR SOME GUIDANCE FROM US ABOUT WHERE DO WE ENVISION NEW SCHOOLS TO BE CONSTRUCTED, UH, HOW MUCH LAND IS NEEDED FOR FACILITIES.
WE HAD A GREAT, VERY GREAT DISCUSSION ABOUT, UH, HOW MANY ACRES MIGHT BE REQUIRED, UM, BASED ON GRADE LEVEL, UM, WHAT IS THE TREND FOR UNINCORPORATED COUNTY TO DEVELOPMENT AND HOW CAN WE PARTNER WITH THE TOWN, UM, FOR LONG RANGE PLANNING? AND SO THERE WAS SOME GOOD DISCUSSION THERE I'D BE REMISS NOT TO POINT OUT THE TOP OFF.
IT DOES HAVE AN PERMIT SNAP FOR, SO FOR THOSE CONSTITUENTS THAT SEE THINGS POPPING UP AND BLOCKED IN, THEY DO HAVE AN INTERACTIVE PERMIT MAP ONLINE.
THAT'S A TOWN OF BLUFFTON.US/PERMIT WHERE YOU CAN GO IN AND IT'S VERY INTERACTIVE.
YOU CAN SEE WHAT EXACTLY IS GOING INTO SOME OF THOSE SPACES.
SO YOU SEE THAT QUITE OFTEN WHERE PEOPLE ARE WONDERING WHAT'S BEING BUILT.
UM, SO THAT'S JUST A BRIEF OVERVIEW OF THAT.
WE DID HAVE A RECOMMENDATION THAT WE'RE BRINGING FORWARD AND IT ISN'T FOR DOCS.
[00:45:01]
SO, UM, I'M GOING TO GO AHEAD AND MAKE THAT NOW AND THEN OPEN IT UP FOR DISCUSSION.UM, SO THE AD HOC BLUFFTON GROWTH COMMITTEE RECOMMENDS TO THE FULL BOARD THAT THE DISTRICT BRING FORTH, UM, A BLUFFTON GROWTH DEVELOPMENT PLAN OPTION IN THE NEXT 90 DAYS.
I WANTED TO OPEN IT UP FOR DISCUSSION.
UM, BASICALLY THIS CAME FORWARD BECAUSE THE COMMITTEE HAS BEEN IN EXISTENCE NOW FOR SOME QUITE SOME TIME, WE DID HAVE TO, UM, ADJUST A LITTLE BIT DUE TO THE COVID.
AND I THINK EVERYBODY'S AWARE OF THAT, OF WHERE, UM, THE GROWTH WAS AGE POPULATION WISE.
UM, BUT IN STICKING WITH COHERENT GOVERNANCE, THE BLUFFTON GROWTH COMMITTEE WANTED TO DIRECT THE DISTRICT TO COME UP WITH A BLOCK AND GROWTH PLAN TO PRESENT TO THE FULL BOARD, UM, WITHIN THE NEXT 90 DAYS TO MOVE FORWARD ON THAT.
ANY QUESTIONS CLARIFY RURAL ROADS AS OPPOSED TO WHAT WE HAVE IN OUR TENURE.
SO THERE IS SOME INFORMATION ON THE FACILITIES BOOK THAT, UH, CAROL, WE DON'T HAVE THE BALANCE, A COPY OF IT YET.
WE HAVE THE ONLINE COPY, SO THEY HAVE LAID OUT KIND OF WHAT WE'RE GOING TO NEED, BUT IT'S NOT AS DEFINITIVE AS WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO? WHAT ARE WE GOING TO BUILD A NEW SCHOOL IN 20, 24? IS IT GOING TO BE A K THROUGH EIGHT? WHERE IS IT GOING TO BE? UM, THERE IS SOME GUIDANCE, BUT IT'S NOT AS DEFINITIVE.
UM, IF YOUR DIED WAS NASTY, I WOULD ACTUALLY LOVE THAT MY GUEST, DR.
RODRIGUEZ, UM, WHETHER HE THINKS 90 DAYS IS ENOUGH.
I MEAN, THIS, I MEAN, WE'VE ALL BEEN THOUGH THAT THE GROWTH WE'VE HEARD REPORTS, WE KNOW WHAT'S HAPPENING, BUT TO HAVE A GROUP LIFE AGAIN, I DON'T KNOW ALL THAT IT ENCOMPASSES IS THIS ENOUGH TIME.
WE'RE ACTUALLY GOING TO SHIFT THAT QUESTION OVER TO MISS YOUR AUDIENCE, WHOSE TEAM IS GOING TO BE A INTEGRAL PART OF DEVELOPING SLEDS.
I KNOW FROM LOOKING AT, WE'VE LOOKED AT FACILITY PLANS, LOOKING AT OPERATIONS IN JANUARY, AND WE ALREADY HAVE SOME GUIDELINES THAT BASICALLY AT 110% OF CAPACITY, IT'S SUPPOSED TO TRIGGER.
UM, AND GIVE YOU AN EXACT WORD HERE A SECOND AGO.
UM, IT'S SUPPOSED TO TRIGGER FOR ACTION CAPACITY USAGE TRIPS, AND WE HAVE A COUPLE OF SCHOOLS IN BOSTON THAT ARE AT 110%.
SO, UM, WE SHOULD ALREADY, I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE PROCESS IS, BUT THERE SHOULD ALREADY BE SOME SORT OF A TRIGGER GOING ON.
UM, THING, FIRST OF ALL, I JUST WANT TO SAY, I'M EXCITED ABOUT JOINING THIS COMMITTEE.
UH, MR. NASTY FOR YOUR, UM, REPORT TODAY.
UM, I CAN ADDRESS ONE OF THE THINGS YOU MENTIONED THAT, THAT, UM, 8 58, UH, PERMITS FOR THIS YEAR.
UH, THEY GAVE AN ESTIMATE, HEATHER NEUTRON, THE TOWN THAT, UM, THAT I BELIEVE IT WAS APPROXIMATELY A HUNDRED OR SO CAME OUT TO BE ABOUT 10% ARE FOR OUR PERMITS FOR, UH, EIGHT, I SHOULD SAY ADRIA'S STAIR DISTRIBUTED DEVELOPMENT.
SO 55 AND OVER, SO THAT'S NOT VERY MANY WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT IT.
SO 90% OF THE PERMITS ARE NOT IN THAT RESTRICTION.
UM, LET'S SEE, WHAT ELSE IN OUR DISCUSSION, I THINK ALSO, UH, YOU KNOW, DR.
RODRIGUEZ, YOU MIGHT WANT TO BRING MORE THAN ONE OPTION AND SAY HERE'S OPTION A HERE'S OPTION B HERE'S THE PROS AND CONS FOR, FOR OPTION A VERSUS OPTION C.
I DON'T THINK WE, UH, I THINK OUR, OUR THOUGHT PROCESS, AND SINCE WE'VE AGREED UNANIMOUSLY, UH, FOR THIS, UH, TO BRING THIS FORWARD TO THE BOARD THAT, UH, YOU MAY HAVE, UH, NOT JUST ONE OPTION ON MANUAL TURNOUT, THERE REALLY IS ONLY ONE BUDDHA OPTION.
AND YOU'LL HAVE YOUR REASONS FOR THAT FOLLOW UP TO THAT, UH, MR. MR. MS. CAROL IN THAT MEETING.
AND SO THEY DID HEAR THE DISCUSSION ABOUT THE DIFFERENT OPTIONS AND KIND OF WHAT WE WERE LOOKING FOR TO GO INTO THAT.
UM, SO I DIDN'T WANT TO STAY THERE, THEY'RE AWARE OF IT.
[00:50:05]
SO WHERE EXACTLY IS THE TOWN BLOCKED IN THE IMPACT FEES? WE DID NOT HAVE A DISCUSSION ON THAT BACK IN THE PAST.I DON'T BELIEVE, I DON'T BELIEVE THAT.
UM, WE DID ATTEND TO MEETINGS, UH, ABOUT THREE WEEKS AGO, UH, AT THE TIME OF LOSS, THEN, UH, WE SHARE INFORMATION ON THE IMPACT.
WALSH WAS PRESENT THERE AS WELL.
UM, BUT THEY LISTENED TO THE PRESENTATION AND THEN THEY WERE GOING TO COME BACK, UH, BRING IT BACK IN AND VOTE ON IT.
UH, UH, AT A LATER TIME THEY DID, I DON'T BELIEVE THEY SET A DATE FOR THAT, UH, FOR THAT.
DO YOU REMEMBER? I THINK THEY SAID AT THE NEXT MEETING, SO THAT WOULD BE EARLY FEBRUARY.
SO THEY HAVEN'T TAKEN HER, BUT YEAH, BUT THAT'S THEIR, UH, WE'RE SCHEDULED TO, WE WERE SCHEDULED TO GO TO, UH, THE TOWN OF HILTON HEAD, UH, TO SHARE INFORMATION ON, UH, IMPACT FEES AS WELL.
BUT THE TOWN THAT HILTON HAD HAS THEIR COUNCIL MEETINGS THE VERY SAME DAY THAT WE HAVE OUR ORDER.
SO I SPOKE WITH THEM AND REQUESTED IT.
THEY COULD SEND ME SOME ADDITIONAL DATES, I A WORK SESSION OR SOMETHING THAT THEY MIGHT HAVE, OR WE COULD BRING THIS INFORMATION FOR, UM, BECAUSE WE'RE ALWAYS GOING TO RUN INTO AN ISSUE.
AND THEN WE'RE IN THE PROCESS OF SCHEDULING THAT WOULD COVER WHOLE.
AND MY HOPE IS TO HAVE ALL OF THOSE COMPLETED AND WITHIN FEBRUARY THOSE THOSE MEETINGS.
I, BUT I SENDING THEM THE SUSPENSION SO PHANTOM TO REALLY REPRESENT, BUT I'LL PLANS ON LONG TERM DEVELOPMENT OF EDUCATION, THIS DISTRICT, I DON'T THINK I WAS CONCERNED ABOUT WANTING TO JUST ADD.
WE OUGHT TO BE THINKING IN THE SILO OF LOCKTON ALONE PHILIPPI SYSTEM, UH, FAST WITH EDUCATING.
WHY IS IT? WE HAVE TO THINK A LITTLE BIT OUT OF THE BOX AND THIS DAY AT TIME, BECAUSE OF WHAT WE DO AND WHAT, HOW WE PAY UP FOR THAT BLOCK, WHICH MIGHT EXTEND TO ALL THE BUFORD COUNTY AND 10, 15, 20 YEARS.
BUT THINK ABOUT ALL OF THOSE THINGS WHERE WE JUST TALK ABOUT BUILDING A PLAN FOR A BLOCK, I'M SURE BLOCK DIDN'T WANT TO HEAR ABOUT IT BECAUSE IT'S SALEABLE, BUT BOTTOM LINE IS WHAT'S REAL.
WHAT ARE BE GOING? YOU KNOW, I, YOU KNOW, I ALMOST WANT, YOU KNOW, OH MAN, THAT WE ARE NOT ABLE TO PRESENT SOMETHING THAT WOULD BE SUBSTANDARD AT 90 DAYS, GROWTH AND BLOCK.
UH, I DON'T THINK IT'S POSSIBLE.
IT WOULD BE GENUINE WHEN IN THAT PRESENTATION.
UM, I DO I SHARE SOME OF THOSE CERTAIN STANDARDS, BLAH, BLAH, BLAH.
ALONG WITH THAT, UM, WHAT BRINGS ME TO CONCERNS IS THAT WE HAVE, UH, I'VE HEARD A LOT WITHIN THE LAST COUPLE OF MONTHS, YOU KNOW, WE HAVE A LOT OF DIFFERENT GIRLS, THE STYLE OF WITHOUT, UH, WE'RE GOING BACK OUT FOR , WE'RE STILL, WE'RE STILL BUILDING ON THE MANTRA FROM HER NOW.
SHE'S LIKE, WE'RE READY, WE'RE READY TO SHOP ANOTHER ONE OUT.
AND I'M LIKE, WE ARE ALREADY REPACKAGING OF THE DEAL TO GO BACK TO THE TECH PEERS AND ASK THEM FOR MORE MONEY.
AND WE HAVEN'T GOTTEN THEM WITH THIS SITUATION AT FIRST.
AND THEN ALSO YOU HAVE A LARGE AMOUNT OF PRIVATE SCHOOLS AND CHARTER SCHOOLS THAT ARE COMING UP RIGHT NOW.
SO, YOU KNOW, WE ALSO WERE SAYING THAT IT WAS GOING TO BE A CAPACITY.
THERE WAS GOING TO BE A LARGE AMOUNT OF PEOPLE THAT WERE GOING TO BE OVER THERE AND HE LOST, HE LOST AND LOVED THEM THAT DIDN'T COME BACK.
SO I'M JUST WANTING TO SEE WHO SHE SHOULD BE MORE CAUTIOUS IN COLLEGE RIGHT NOW IS A TIME TO PULL THE TRIGGER.
AMBULANCE BLOG IS GROWING, BUT I'M NOT SURE IF
[00:55:02]
THE TECH BIT OF HOW GREAT THE HERE RIGHT NOW THAT WE JUST WANT TO GO IN.FULLY OUT OF BOTTLE THAT WE HAVE.
UM, I'M JUST A LITTLE CONCERNED ABOUT THAT.
THAT'S, THAT'S, THAT'S WHERE I'M AT WITH THAT.
I JUST WANTED TO ADDRESS SOME OF THE CONCERNS THAT WERE RAISED.
UM, ONE IS THAT DURING THE LAST, I DON'T KNOW, YEAR AND A HALF OR SO THAT WE'VE BEEN LOOKING AT AN EXORBITANT AMOUNT OF DATA IN REGARD TO OUR STUDENT POPULATION, THE BUILDING THAT'S GOING IN, BLOCKED IN WHAT HAPPENED WHEN WE DID FOR THE STUDENTS DO TO COPE IN THEIR BACK.
UM, THERE MIGHT BE PRIVATE SCHOOLS, THERE MIGHT BE CHARTER SCHOOLS.
THEY'LL BE STILL HAVE A PROBLEM WITH, UH, OVERCAPACITY IN OUR SCHOOLS.
UH, THE BOARD MEMBERS ON THE COMMITTEE HAVE VISITED THOSE BLUFFTON SCHOOLS.
MULTIPLE TIMES SPOKE WITH THE PRINCIPALS, SEEN THE STRAIN THAT'S ON THEM FACILITIES AND ON THE EDUCATORS AND ADMINISTRATORS THAT ARE THERE.
UM, SO THIS WANT TO ASSURE THE BOARD MEMBERS WHO MAY HAVE CONCERN ON THAT, THAT WE'VE BEEN DOING OUR DUE DILIGENCE.
ALL OF THAT DATA IS LOCATED IN THE BOARD DOTS.
SO YOU CERTAINLY CAN GO BACK AND SEE IT.
UM, YOU CAN SEE THE TRENDS AND I CERTAINLY AM A FISCAL CONSERVATIVE, AND I WOULDN'T WANT TO ASK TAXPAYERS, YOU KNOW, TO PUT ANY MORE MONEY INTO ANYTHING IF I DIDN'T FEEL IT WAS NECESSARY.
SO, UM, MY KIDS GO THROUGH THIS WHOLE LOGIN AND I SEE WHAT'S GOING ON.
I'VE LEFT WHEN I LEFT THERE, I SEE THE THINGS POPPING UP.
AND, UM, I DO AGREE THAT WE NEED A HOLISTIC PLAN TO THE GROWTH IN THE DISTRICT.
UM, HOWEVER, WHEN YOU HAVE THE GROWTH THAT WE HAVE IN BLOCKED IN, AND YOU HAVE THE GROWTH CONTINUING, UM, AND IF THAT TREND IS NOT LOOKING LIKE IT'S HAPPENING IN OTHER PLACES, YOU DO HAVE TO DEAL WITH THE EMERGENCY.
YOU CAN'T JUST CONTINUE TO PUT BAND-AIDS ON, UM, AND PUT UP MOBILES.
SO I CERTAINLY KNOW THAT OUR CONSTITUENTS DON'T LIKE MOBILES AND THEY WOULD LIKE TO SEE A PERMANENT SOLUTION FOR OUR KIDS TO LEARN IT BETTER FACILITIES.
UM, I'VE SAID THE NORTH OF THE BRONX, AND IT WAS ESTABLISHED THAT ALTHOUGH THIS INFORMATION SEEMS VALUABLE, IT REALLY DOESN'T FACTOR INTO THE ALGORITHMS WE USE TO PREDICT ENROLLMENT.
UM, AM I CORRECT? STRIKE TALKING ABOUT BUILDING PERMITS? YES.
I WOULD AGREE WITH THAT STATEMENT AND BUILDING PERMITS ARE A GOOD INDICATOR, BUT THAT IS NOT WHAT WE BASE OUR PROJECTIONS ARE.
WE BASE OUR PROJECTIONS ON THE ACTUAL NUMBER OF STUDENTS COMING FROM THE DIFFERENT NEIGHBORHOODS AND HOW THEY'RE TRENDING OVER TIME.
NOW, I WAS SOMEWHAT SURPRISED WITH THE RATIO AND YET IT REALLY DOESN'T HAVE ANY EFFECT ON OUR, OUR PROJECTIONS FOR GROWTH.
AND THE OTHER POINT IS, I'M NOT SURE WHAT YOU'RE GOING TO PRODUCE, THAT YOU DON'T ALREADY HAVE.
YOU'VE ALREADY DONE ALL THAT WORK SO WELL.
UH, IF I CAN, I THINK MS ACTUALLY JUST GAVE SOME DIRECTIONS NINE AND IT WAS THE DIRECTION WE WERE KIND OF HEADING IS THAT, UH, IN OUR PLAN WE'D GIVE IN GENERALITIES AND WE'VE TALKED ABOUT WHERE OVERALL OUR ISSUES ARE, WHAT WE'RE PLANNING TO PUT TOGETHER AS REQUESTED BY COMMITTEE IS MORE SPECIFIC HERE'S OPTION ONE, YOU CAN DO THIS, THIS, AND THEN YOU BUILD THIS SIDE OF SCHOOL THAT HERE AND FOLLOW WITH THIS OPTION TWO, OPTION THREE, THAT'S THE DIRECTION WE'RE GOING TO KIND OF GIVE A LITTLE MORE OF AN ALEC CARTE MENU ON HOW YOU'D ADDRESS THE PROBLEMS. WE'VE TALKED THE BIG PICTURE IN THE BOOK.
IF THAT'S WHAT EVERYBODY WANTS TO DO IS GET MORE SPECIFIC.
HERE'S THIS OPTION, HERE'S THIS OPTION, HERE'S THIS, AND THEN I'LL COME TO THE BOARD OR ACCOMPLISH TO THE COMMUNITY.
WISNIEWSKI SPECIFICALLY AT THIS MEETING, UM, THAT WE HAD THE LAST STEP OF THE RULES COMMITTEE MEETING.
UM, UH, CAROL CRUTCHFIELD SPECIFICALLY SAID THAT THE, UM, THE PERMITS ARE, YOU KNOW, ONE FACTOR TO DETERMINE,
[01:00:01]
UH, THE GROWTH OF STUDENTS IN OUR SCHOOLS.IT'S NOT THE ONLY FACTOR I THINK THAT HAS TO BE, UM, REALIZE, UH, YOU KNOW, HAVING BEEN ON THE BOARD FOR FIVE YEARS, I'VE CERTAINLY VISITED ALL THE BLUFF IN SCHOOLS.
HOWEVER, HERE I WANT TO PUBLICLY THANK CAROL CRUTCHFIELD.
SHE'S GOING AROUND TO ALL THE SCHOOLS WITH ME.
UM, AND, UH, KATHY JOINED US ON A COUPLE OF, OF, UH, LAST WEEKEND.
UH, SO SHE'S KIND OF DOING THE SAME, UH, VISITS THAT THE GROWTH COMMITTEE DID BEFORE.
I WAS A PART OF THAT COMMITTEE.
AND I APPRECIATE IT VERY MUCH.
YOU GET A LITTLE DIFFERENT VIEWPOINT AND SHE'S, UH, WE'RE GOING TO GO OVER YOUR NUMBERS.
I MEAN, UH, THERE'S NOT A DECLINE OF STUDENTS BECAUSE OF THAT.
THE PANDEMIC WAS THERE A PAUSE TEMPORARILY? ABSOLUTELY.
BUT THAT'S NOT THE WAY THE TREND IS AT THIS POINT.
AND I THINK THAT NEEDS TO BE VERY CLEAR TO THE PUBLIC WELL FROM HEARING WHAT WE MOST IGNORANCE AND THE HAIR FROM, FROM THE BOOK THAT WE HAVE, THAT'S SUPPOSED TO BE GIVING US GUIDANCE IN TERMS OF GROWTH AND BUILDING DEFINITELY CONCERNED BECAUSE IF THE BOOK THEN HABIT THAT WE NEED TO POSSIBLY BE, WE HAVE TO HAVE A VISA TO HAVE BUILDINGS BUILT WITHIN WHAT THIS COMMUNITY IS BRINGING FORTH, THEN WHAT THE GOOD AND THE PROJECTORY OF HAVING THE BOOK.
SO I AM A LITTLE CONCERNED WITH THAT BECAUSE SEE WHAT HAPPENED IS WHAT'S HAPPENING.
ONCE THEY COME BACK WITH OPTION A OR B, THEN I'M SURE THEY'RE GOING TO THE EXECUTIVE IS GOING TO EXPECT US TO MOVE ON THAT IMMEDIATELY.
AND IF WE DON'T KNOW WHAT IT IS, I'M SURE THAT THE REALTY WILL THEN BE COMING TO MEETINGS SAYING WHERE Y'ALL HAD THE SHALL FOLLOW.
SO WHEN YOU OPEN UP, YOU KNOW, WHEN YOU OPEN UP ONE DOOR, THEN YOU POSSIBLY START OPENING UP PANDORA'S BOX.
SO, YOU KNOW, I MEAN, THERE'S A HOST OF BIGGER.
I WANTED ONE PERSON PERSONALLY, AND THEN MOVE IT, MOVING THIS FORWARD AND HOW WE MOVE FORWARD AND WHAT THIS LOOKS LIKE, YOU KNOW, IN TERMS OF THE, THE BOOK.
AND I TOLD HER THE EMOTION, MY QUESTION, THE BRAIN, AND TO BRING IT BACK HOME, MY QUESTION WILL BE IN DIFFERENCE.
WHAT WOULD THAT LOOK LIKE? WHAT DOES IT LOOKS LIKE AS A, A 90 ESTIMATE, GUESSTIMATE OF HOW THE PROJECT REPORT, UH, WHAT A, I MEAN, HOW CAN IT BE VERSUS WHAT WE HAVE A BOOK RIGHT NOW? WHAT'S THAT PROCESS? SO JUST TO GIVE AN EXAMPLE, UM, THERE'S A SECTION OF SYLVIA'S THAT TALKS ABOUT GROWTH AND HOW TO ADDRESS IT.
UM, SOME OF THE ITEMS THAT ARE TALKED ABOUT ARE IN GENERAL, OUR PLAN RIGHT NOW IS YOUR MOBILES.
WE'RE ADDING ADDITIONAL GLOBALS WERE NEEDED.
UM, BUT OUR GROWTH NUMBERS SHOW THE NEED WITHIN THE NEXT.
UH, WELL, PRETTY IMMEDIATELY YOU CAN SAY ANYWHERE FROM NOW TO, UM, FIVE YEARS, WE NEED AN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.
YOU ALSO NEED DOING NOW FIVE YEARS OF MIDDLE SCHOOL.
WE COULD ALSO SAY, WE NEED NOW WITH, WITHIN THE FIVE-YEAR ROMMEL HIGH SCHOOL, ALL THOSE ARE REALLY NEEDED RIGHT NOW.
SO THE PLAN WE'RE GOING TO BRING IS ONE, MAYBE A MOBILE PLAN.
HERE'S HOW WE'RE GOING TO ADDRESS THIS WITH MOBILES.
WE'RE GOING TO PUT MOLES HERE OVER THE NEXT FIVE YEARS, AND THIS IS HOW MANY MOBILES ARE GONNA HAVE AT BRIDGEVILLE.
THIS HOW MANY MOBILES ARE GOING TO HAVE WHAT'S THE TIE? ANOTHER PLAN WOULD BE, WE START WITH AN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ON THE MEMBER OF OUR CAMPUS OF 800 STUDENTS IN A MIDDLE SCHOOL, A 1000 STUDENTS, MAYOR CAMPUS.
WHAT DOES THAT LOOK LIKE? WHAT DID THAT, WHAT WOULD THAT PLAN OUT? IF WE NEED ANOTHER HIGH SCHOOL, WE WOULD NEED LAND IN THIS AREA FOR A HIGH SCHOOL.
YOU KNOW, A THOUSAND STUDENTS, THAT'S THE OPTIONS WE'RE PLANNING ON GIVING YOU SPECIFICALLY, YOU NEED THIS BUILDING HERE, THIS BUILDING THERE.
AND WOULD YOU BUILD THOSE BUILDINGS? THAT'S WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE.
THE BOOK RIGHT NOW JUST SAYS, IN GENERAL, YOU ARE GOING TO NEED THESE BUILDINGS IN THIS TIMEFRAME.
WE'RE GOING TO BE MORE SPECIFIC IF YOU BUILD IT.
NOW, THIS IS THE RESULTS YOU BUILT THIS.
NOW HERE, HERE'S WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN.
THAT'S WHAT WE'RE PLANNING ON.
I UNDERSTAND YOUR JOB TASKS IS OUT OF THE TASK AND DR.
[01:05:01]
LITTLE BIT MORE UNCOMPENSATED AND JUST BUILDING BUILDINGS TO FACILITATE THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE AND THE AREA.THIS TASK IS, IS DEVELOPING A PROCESS OF EDUCATING OF FACILITATES PEOPLE IN THE DISTRICT.
AND YOU MIGHT SAY, WE NEED ANOTHER MINISTRY SCHOOL HERE.
AND HE MIGHT SAY, NO, YOU DON'T NEED A PROGRAM.
THAT'S GOING ON SERVICE, THIS AMOUNT OF CHILDREN THERE.
AND WE NEED THE BUILDING OVER HERE SOMEWHERE.
THAT'S BEEN THOUGHT OUT THE PROCESS OF WHAT THEY'RE GOING TO NEED 10, 15 YEARS FROM NOW VERSUS WHAT THOSE NUMBERS ARE SAYING TODAY.
AND, UH, ONE THING THAT GENERAL WORK SESSION THAT I WAS EMPHATIC ABOUT, AND I STILL NOW THAT, HOW DOES TECHNICAL EDUCATION FILTER INTO THIS AND HOW ARE WE GOING TO EDUCATE ALL OUR DISTRICT CHILDREN, INCLUDING A LARGE AMOUNT OF HIS GROUP PROCESS AND THAT SYSTEM IN THE SAME PHONE THAT WE HAVE NOW, SAME AMOUNT OF PROGRAMS THAT, YOU KNOW, I'LL BE THINKING, GET ALL THE WAY THROUGH.
THAT'S THE ONLY THING I'M ASKING.
AND I DON'T WANT YOU TO GO OUT THERE IN 90 DAYS AND SAY THESE THINGS, WE'D GONE NEITHER, AN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, ALL ONE OVER HERE AND THERE AND THE PEOPLE, HEY, DUDE, TAKE, TAKE THAT.
AND IT HERE READ THAT WHEN YOU COME WITH THAT REFERENDUM, THEY AIN'T GOING TO EXPECT THAT.
I, I, YOU KNOW, I KNOW, YOU KNOW, IT'S GENUINE.
WHAT YOU SAYING? I LOOK AT THE NUMBERS IS WHERE THE GROWTH IS.
THIS IS WHAT WE'RE GOING TO NEED.
RODRIGUEZ SAY, I THINK WE'RE GOING TO DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT.
I THINK WE'RE GOING TO EDUCATE A LITTLE DIFFERENT SEVEN YEARS FROM NOW, THEN WHAT WE HAVE BEEN DOING THE LAST 30 YEARS, 40 YEARS, I WANT TO, I WANT TO BE SURE THAT WE COVERED THOSE POINTS BEFORE WE GO OUT IN THE PUBLIC WITH ANY GUIDANCE STATEMENT.
I HAD ONE LAST COMMENT TO CHEMISTRY.
CAMPBELL'S POINT SOMETHING THAT WE DID DISCUSS AND HAVE DISCUSSED IN THE COMMITTEE IS ALSO, UM, SOMETHING THAT WE COULD DISCUSS WITH THE FULL BOARD.
AND THAT'S THE CONCEPT OF PRE-K.
AND SO THAT IS A CONSIDERATION IN GOING INTO THIS PLAN AS WELL, BECAUSE THAT'S SOMETHING THAT WE TALKED ABOUT WHEN WE VISITED THE SITES.
IS THERE SPACE FOR AN ECC HERE? UM, BECAUSE WE KNOW THAT THOSE STUDENTS IN CAPTURING THEM YOUNG, IT'S VERY IMPORTANT.
IT'S A BOARD PRIORITY AND THAT'S KIND OF THE DIRECTION WE'RE GOING IN.
SO I JUST WANTED TO MAKE THE COMMENT THAT WE HAVE BEEN LOOKING AT IT HOLISTICALLY, UM, AND FROM, YOU KNOW, INCLUDING THOSE DIFFERENT THINGS THAT HAVE COME OUT AS BOARD PRIORITIES.
WE'LL TRY TO WRAP THIS UP RIGHT HERE BECAUSE MR. CAMPBELL, JUST TO ADDRESS POINT, WE'RE LOOKING FOR THE OPPORTUNITY OF GOING THROUGH THE BOOK AT THE WORK SESSION IN, I THINK IN MARCH AND WE HAVE A WHOLE NEW PROGRAMMATIC SECTION THAT ADDRESSES A LOT OF YOUR NEEDS AND MATCHING.
WE PLAN TO HAVE THIS CONVERSATION.
THE MOTION IS OPTIONS OPTIONS OF THE NEXT 90 DAYS.
IS THAT NOT THE WAY, UM, AMENDMENTS TO THAT MOTION AND THAT WHEN THE OPTION IS BROUGHT TO US, IT'S AN UPDATE, NOT AN ACTION ITEM.
WELL, BEFORE I ASK, BEFORE I COLLECT TO ASK HER A QUESTION, I'M NOT SURE I UNDERSTAND YOUR, AND BEFORE, BECAUSE I DON'T, IT'S NOT,
[01:10:01]
AS I'M THINKING, I BOUGHT IT, I'M TALKING AND THINKING OUT LOUD AND I DON'T WANT TO MAKE EMOTION.THAT'S SOMETHING THAT IS KIND OF THE SAME.
AND I'M JUST GOING TO ACTUALLY, WHEN THIS MOTION COME BACK THERE, I MEAN, WHEN, WHEN, WHEN THIS PRACTICE COME BACK, I DON'T EXPECT THE BIGGER A, A, UM, A DECISION, LIKE IT SAYS RIGHT THERE THAT, OR IS IT IMPORTANT, INFORMATIVE, AND THEN GO IMPOSSIBLY GO FROM THERE, BUT NOT, NOT AT A FAST PACE AT A FAST PACE.
UM, I'LL ANSWER THAT IN THE END.
ANYONE PLEASE CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG HERE.
UM, AT THE WORKSHOP WE WERE TALKING ABOUT WHEN YOU'RE IN GOVERNANCE, IT WAS MORE DISCUSSED AS THAT THINGS WOULD COME FORWARD FROM THE DISTRICT.
WE WOULD LOOK AT IT AND GIVE OUR INPUT.
WE MAY HAVE SOME CHANGES, UM, THINGS THAT, YOU KNOW, WE SEE THAT THEY MIGHT NOT SEE.
SO I DON'T SEE IT AS BEING AN IMMEDIATE ACTION ITEM WHEN IT COMES FORWARD.
THEY'RE SIMPLY IMPORTANT OPTIONS FOR US TO VET AND ASK QUESTIONS OF AND CONSIDER FOR THE FUTURE.
UM, UM, OUR NEXT MEETING WE'LL HAVE THE COUNTY TREASURY LAWS PRESENTED.
THE DATE IS CHANGED TO FEBRUARY SEVEN.
UM, MY CELL AND WE WENT TO 20 SCHOOLS AND OURS WAS NOT FOCUSED SO MUCH ON GROWTH BECAUSE WE KNOW THAT YOU'RE OFTEN DRAWN.
UM, WE FACE SOME DEVELOPMENT COMING ON.
UM, EACH OF YOU SHOULD HAVE A COPY OF YOUR GUIDANCE ON HERE IN THE CENTER, RIGHT? NOTHING ELSE FROM SCHOOL.
WOULD YOU SEND IT TO EVERYBODY? I DON'T THINK WE WE'LL GET THEM SET UP.
WELL, UM, THEY TAKE CARE OF, UM, AND TAKE CARE OF SOME STUFF AT THE SCHOOL.
I THINK THAT SOME OF THE ITEMS WE'VE TALKED ABOUT, THERE'S THE PRINCIPAL AT THE SCHOOL WORKING WITH COMMUNITY, STUFF LIKE THAT.
WE HAD A MEETING ON THE 25TH AND WE HAD A DISCUSSION WITH, UH, PLANNING THE FOLKLORE AND ALSO THE GUYS FROM THE COUNTY.
AND I'M GOING TO TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT, YES.
WE HAD A LOYAL PLANNING DIRECTOR.
TALK TO US A BIT ABOUT SOME OF THE ANTICIPATED BUILDING THAT'S GOING TO GO ON IN PORT ROYAL.
UM, AND THE POPULATION GROWTH IS ANTICIPATED BY 2030.
UH, ALMOST A 24% INCREASE FROM 13,000 TO 16,000, UM, THAT THERE ARE OVER APPROXIMATELY 1000, UM, PERMITS THAT ARE ABLE TO BE DEVELOPED WITHIN THE TOWN OF PORT ROYAL, BUT AS STERN AS MR. MENTIONED SOME OF THE, THE BOTTOM LINE TO THIS, WHEN WE TALKED TO MS. FRESHER AND MR. AUDIT ABOUT THIS IS THAT THIS IS REALLY GOOD INFORMATION.
THIS IS NOT PREDICTIVE OF THE NUMBERS OF STUDENTS THAT WE ANTICIPATE WILL BE FLOWING FROM THESE FILTER UNITS AND SO ON.
UM, BUT IT WAS EXCELLENT INFORMATION TO HAVE AND TO, TO TALK TO THE PLANNING DIRECTOR OF,
[01:15:08]
UM, THE REST OF THE COUNTY, UM, THERE'S GOING TO BE SOME GROWTH, NOT GROWTH AROUND BATTERY.UM, ALSO, UM, NORTHERN PART OF THE FARM, UM, DEVELOPMENT GOING ACROSS RIGHT NOW ACROSS FROM THE MIDDLE SCHOOL.
WE HAVE BRANCH MIDDLE SCHOOL, WHICH IS 45 LOTS AS WELL.
SO WE DON'T KNOW, UM, WHAT'S THE, HOW ARE THEY GOING TO BE SOME OF THE BUILDING? UM, ALSO WE FINISHING OUT HABIT DEVELOPMENT, SHATTER MALLS IN SHAREPOINT, BECAUSE IF ANY, THE NORTHERN LIGHTS COUNTY IS PROBABLY GOING TO COME FROM AREA OR THE MOC DECIDED TO MOVE INTO BEAUTIFUL.
WE DON'T SEE ANY MAJOR GOALS, THE NORTHERN PART OF THE COUNTY IN AN ABUSIVE CLUSTER, NO OTHER PART OF THE BABY'S OUT AND ALSO TO RUN BETTER CRITICAL.
ANY QUESTIONS COMING UP? YOU ABLE TO ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS LATER ON IN TERMS OF FACILITIES USE, HOW ARE WE GOING TO UTILIZE SOME OF THE UNDER USE FACILITIES AND BURGESS WITH THE FACILITIES THAT WE LEAVE? AND IS THERE A PLAN FOR THAT? WHAT I MEAN, WHEN I SAY WE SHOULDN'T TALK TO A GROUP THAT'S, BUT YOU THINK AT SEEDS AND WE'VE GOT A LOT OF LOOSE ENDS AROUND IT.
AND ALL OF THAT IS A PART OF THE PLAN THAT I'M EXPECTING A BIG DEVELOP LONG-TERM STRATEGIC PLAN, HOW WE USE THESE BUILDINGS, WHICH ONE'S GOING TO BE CLOSED.
IF THEY'RE ARE, THEN THERE'LL BE A LOT OF THE BILLS, SOME NEW ONES AND HOW A BUNCH THAT WERE NOT USED.
WELL, I DON'T, I DON'T THINK THAT'D BE, YOU SEE THAT, YOU KNOW, ON A DISCOUNT IN A NEW ROOM, BECAUSE LIKE WHAT I SAY MAJOR DEVELOPMENT COMES UP, OR YOU HAVEN'T SEEN CHANGE, HAVE SOME, SOME SUBMISSION ON SOME OF THE PRINCIPLES WE TALKED WITH HIM, WE TALK ABOUT SMALLER CLASS SIZE.
SO, YOU KNOW, I STILL , GOTTA BE IDIOT AS WELL AS OUTSIDE.
SO WE GET ALL OF THAT DONE AS EASY.
IT'S JUST A CONVERSATION THAT YOU CAN HAVE CASUALLY.
AND SO IT'S A LONG TERM PROPOSITION BESIDES WELL, IS EDUCATION IN THE FUTURE.
SOMETHING FOR, DAVID'S A POPULAR PHRASE.
WHAT HAVE WE LEARNED FROM IT? WHERE ARE WE, WHERE DO WE GO FROM THERE? BACK ON THE SAME OLD, 1997 PLAN.
IT'S ANOTHER PROJECT IN THE DEAL AREA.
YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT THIS PHONE RIGHT HERE, THEN I'M GOING TO COME HOUSE IN A CERTAIN PART OF, THAT'S NOT INCOMPETENT.
I JUST WANT TO THANK MR. CAMPBELL AND MR. HENDRICKS FOR, UH, VISITING
[01:20:01]
ALL THOSE SCHOOLS.AND, AND, UH, UM, THEY VERY HELPFUL TO THE, TO THE BOARD.
AND SECOND OF ALL, SO WHERE, WHERE MR. CAMPBELL IS YOUR COMMITTEE HEADED? I GUESS THAT'S MY NEXT QUESTION.
UM, YOU'VE DONE ALL THOSE VISITS AND YOU'VE JUST GIVEN YOUR REPORT THAT IT'S UNLIKELY, THAT NEW BUILDING WILL BE NEEDED IN THE IMMEDIATE FUTURE ON THE NORTH SIDE, BUT PERHAPS THE, TO UTILIZE DIFFERENTLY, IF THAT WAS SORT OF THE SUMMATION OF WHAT YOU SAID, WHAT DO YOU, I MEAN, I GUESS LIKE ONE OF YOUR NEXT AGENDA TOPICS, OR WHERE ARE YOU HEADED WITH YOUR COMMITTEE? WELL, OUR NEXT MEETING IS SUPPOSED TO MEET WITH DOWN RATHER THAN DISCUSS SOME OTHER ISSUES.
THE MAJORITY OF THE ITEMS ON HERE WAS THOSE THINGS THAT MAKE THEM THE HAND AND THE PRINCIPAL IS NOT SNAPPY.
I JUST WANT TO ADD THAT WHEN YOU ALL, DO YOU SEE A CHART THAT HAS THE DATE OF THE VISIT AND THE SCHOOL WE VISITED AND SOME OF THE NOTES, UM, PLEASE NOTE THAT THOSE ARE JUST, UH, OUR NOTES.
AND, AND ALSO, UM, SOME MEAN, SOME OF THEM ARE, ARE, ARE SOME NEEDS THAT WERE IDENTIFIED BY THE PRINCIPALS OR OUR OBSERVATIONS.
UM, MR. CAMPBELL, AND I DISCUSSED IT AND WE KIND OF COMPILED OUR THOUGHTS.
PLEASE ALSO UNDERSTAND THAT THIS WE'VE HAD THREE MEETINGS, MR. CARAMEL, PERHAPS.
UM, YOU KNOW, WE DID ONE OF THOSE VISITS OR TOOK A LOT OF TIME, BUT AS FAR AS MEETING HIM, SO IT WAS SO RUNNING OUT PURCHASE, WE'RE JUST GATHERING SOME INFORMATION.
WE'RE GETTING THE INGREDIENTS.
UM, OUR NEXT MEETING WILL BE WITH, UM, WITH FACILITIES PLAN.
WE'RE GOING TO KIND OF TAKE A LOOK AT SOME OF THE NOTES THAT WE MADE AND WHAT WE LEARNED FROM THE VISITS WE'LL GET LIKE THE FACILITIES PLAN IS SAYING, AS FAR AS STUDENT POPULATION LOOK AT THE PROGRAMS THAT ARE THERE, LOOK AT WHAT THE PRINCIPALS HAVE SAID, THEIR VISION FOR THOSE SCHOOLS ARE.
AND THAT'S OUR NEXT PLAN IS TO KIND OF MERGE THOSE THOUGHTS AND SAY, WHAT IS THIS PICTURE TELLING US? ALL RIGHT.
SO, SO AGAIN, WHEN YOU GET, WHEN YOU READ, HAVE A CHANCE TO READ THE E'S NOTES, PLEASE REMIND HANDWRITTEN SCRIBBLE NOTES AND MR. CAMPBELL'S NOTES ALONG WITH IT.
UM, AND, UH, UH, JUST TAKE IT WITH US.
THESE ARE THE INGREDIENTS THAT THE CAKE IS NOT MADE YET.
THESE ARE JUST THE INGREDIENTS.
THIS IS PART OF THIS COMMITTEE.
THEY HAVE THEM ON 23RD, AT THREE O'CLOCK YOU JUST TO ALSO TO ADD TO WHAT SOME OF WHAT WAS SAID TO ME, UM, WHAT SHOULD BE MORE, UM, AS YOU THOUGH, AS IT'S AN OUTLINE THAT WE PUT IT PERMITS, PERMITS, BUT, UM, THERE, THE VIRUS, UH, THE IS NOT REALLY SUPPOSED TO BE, UM, BEING BUILT, UH, NEARLY LIKE THAT MIDDLE SCHOOL OR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AREA.
UM, SOME SELF-AWARE WITHIN, WITHIN THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF IT, ADJACENT TO IT.
UM, AND THEN ALSO THERE'S ONE MORE COMING DOWN NEAR THE, UM, NEAR THE WALMART, UM, SOMETHING NEAR THAT AREA AS WELL.
AND ALSO, UH, I WAS AT THE GAS STATION AND I WAS TALKING TO THE GUY AND HE SAID THAT, UH, I WOULD SAY COMMA, THAT HE HAD ABOUT FOUR MORE TRAILERS TO DELIVER WITHIN THIS WEEK ON YESTERDAY.
SO FROM ME RUNNING FOR THE FIRST TIME WITH THE PROBLEM, THE PROBLEM IS WHY I GOT ON SCHOOL BOARD.
THERE'S NOTHING ABOUT DEFINITELY CHANGING.
SO I WOULD BEG TO DIFFER THAT THERE ARE DEFINITELY, UH, MORE PEOPLE ON A ONLY IN THE LAKE CITY AREA DISTRICT THAT IS GROWING.
SO I DO BELIEVE, I DO BELIEVE THAT AS AN MR. B, MR. CAMPBELL MAY MOVIE, UH, IS, IS VALUABLE IN TERMS OF HOW WOULD YOU TALK ABOUT UTILIZING THE SPACE THAT WE HAVE, UM, IN TERMS OF CLASS SIZES AND JUST, UH, MAKE MAKING DECISIONS BASED ON HOW, HOW, HOW WE CAN BETTER EDUCATE OUR KIDS BECAUSE, UM, THERE'S DEFINITELY A NEED TO UTILIZE ALL THE, ALL THE SPACE, ALL THE SPACE THAT WE DEFINITELY HAVEN'T BEEN
[01:25:01]
ABLE TO GROW INTO THIS, THIS, UH, THIS SIDE OF THE ABROAD IS DEFINITELY STILL GOING TO BE.UM, BUT WHAT I'VE SEEN, SO I'M CONCERNED THAT IT IS THE WRONG, SO I THINK WE SHOULD KEEP IT ON APPLES ALL BECAUSE I DON'T NEED THAT.
I WOULD WANT TO PULL THE BOOKS A WEEK MAX OUT, LIKE WHERE'S YOUR REPORT YESTERDAY COMMITTED REPORTS.
ONCE WE HAVE PRESENTED A PROFILE FOR COUNTER STRATEGY PRESENTED BY EMOTION, WHICH WE WILL INCLUDE IN THE MINUTES NORTH OF BROAD COMMITTEE, GIVE AN UPDATE ON THEIR PROGRESS.
THAT'LL BE THE SUMMATION OF THE CREDIT REPORT SECTION SUPERINTENDENTS
[Superintendent’s Report]
REPORT.THANK YOU, MR. THE FIRST ITEM ON THE SUPERINTENDENTS REPORT THIS EVENING, I'M INTERESTED IN ACHIEVEMENT IS AFRICAN-AMERICAN HISTORY CONFERENCE UPDATE.
I, THOSE, UH, PRIOR READING, UH, WHEN ON THIS WAS, AND IT'S VERY, VERY EARLY STAGES.
UH, YOU HEARD THE PRESENTATION FROM DR.
NIKIA CAMPBELL, UH, WHO HAS DONE JUST OUTSTANDING WORK ON THE AFRICAN-AMERICAN, UH, DISTRICT CONFERENCE.
AND SO, UH, IT'S COMING UP VERY, VERY SHORTLY HERE IN FEBRUARY.
AND SO, UM, SHE'S GOT A LOT OF PIECES THAT ARE NOW ALL IN PLACE.
AND SO, UM, I WANT TO GIVE HER AN OPPORTUNITY TO GIVE YOU AN UPDATE REGARDING AFRICAN AMERICAN HISTORY.
CAMPBELL, IF YOU'RE ON, YES, GOOD EVENING.
I JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE EVERYONE CAN HEAR ME.
UM, I JUST WANT TO TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY, UM, TO JUST THANK THE BOARD FOR GIVING US THE OPPORTUNITY TO CREATE, DEVELOP, AND HOPEFULLY SUCCESSFULLY EXECUTE OUR FIRST ANNUAL AFRICAN-AMERICAN HISTORY CONFERENCE.
UM, AND IT'S JUST A PLEASURE TO GIVE YOU THIS UPDATE ON THE VERY FIRST DAY OF BLACK HISTORY MONTH.
SO JUST THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE OPPORTUNITY AS KAREN.
UM, MCKINSEY DID HER REPORT JUST RECENTLY.
UM, SHE MENTIONED A COUPLE OF TIMES IN HER REPORT ABOUT THE AFRICAN-AMERICAN HISTORY CONFERENCE AND, UM, THIS IS REALLY A JOINT EFFORT, UM, A PARTNERSHIP.
UM, AND, UM, I APPRECIATE WHAT YOU SAID, DR.
RODRIGUEZ, BUT THERE ARE SO MANY OTHER PEOPLE THAT ARE BEHIND THIS, AND WE'RE JUST EXCITED FOR THE OPPORTUNITY.
NUMBER TWO, I BORROWED THIS QUOTE AND I THINK I USED THIS QUOTE BEFORE, UM, FROM REVEREND DR.
AND SO WITH THIS COMBINED COMBINED EFFORT, WE ARE NOT ONLY MADE BY HISTORY, BUT WE WILL MAKE HISTORY FEBRUARY 18TH THROUGH THE 20TH.
UM, IF YOU DON'T KNOW, OUR CONFERENCE THEME FOR THIS YEAR IS UNTOLD STORIES, SHARING BUFORD COUNTY'S RICH AND DIVERSE HISTORY, A TRUE COLLABORATION OF BUFORD COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT, THE TECHNICAL COLLEGE OF THE LOW COUNTRY, UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA BUFORD, AND THE PENN CENTER, A TRUE PARTNERSHIP.
AS I REFERENCED IN THE OCTOBER BOARD WORK SESSION, THE SOUTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION SENT MEMOS TO ALL SCHOOL DISTRICTS, UM, TO INCLUDE SUPERINTENDENTS, INSTRUCTIONAL LEADERS, AND PRINCIPALS OUTLINING RESOURCES TO ASSIST TEACHERS IN PROVIDING HIGH QUALITY RESOURCES TO APPROPRIATELY CELEBRATE BLACK HISTORY MONTH.
AND THE LESSONS AND RESOURCES ARE SHARED.
WE'RE NOT JUST RESERVED FOR THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY, BUT THROUGHOUT THE SCHOOL YEAR AND FOR ALL STUDENTS.
AND I JUST WANT TO SAY THAT BUFORD COUNTY NOT ONLY TOOK THAT CHARGE FROM THE STATE DEPARTMENT, UM, WITH OUR AFRICAN-AMERICAN HISTORY CONFERENCE, WE WILL DEFINITELY ACCOMPLISH THAT GOAL FOR OUR TEACHERS, OUR OBJECTIVES FOR THE WEEK, THE WEEKEND OF FEBRUARY 18TH AND 20.
UM, IT IS ALL ABOUT CONNECTIONS, CONNECTING THE HISTORY TO ALL
[01:30:01]
SUBJECTS AND DISCIPLINES.IT IS ALL ABOUT BROADENING AND DEEPENING OUR UNDERSTANDING AND KNOWLEDGE OF THE HISTORY THAT'S AROUND US.
AND IT'S ALSO AN OPPORTUNITY FOR ATTENDEES TO AFFECTIVELY INCORPORATE AFRICAN-AMERICAN PERSPECTIVES IN LESSONS BEING TAUGHT CARE.
MCKINSEY MENTIONED A LOT OF THE WORK THAT WE ARE DOING WITH THE PROFILE OF THE GRADUATE.
THE CONFERENCE IS JUST A STARTING PLACE FOR US, BUT A CONTINUATION WE'LL CONTINUE THIS WORK.
AND THOSE ARE JUST EXAMPLES OF OPPORTUNITIES FOR US TO DO THAT.
OUR FOCUS FOR THIS CONFERENCE IS FOR ATTENDEES AND EDUCATORS, TO HAVE A DEEP, DEEPER UNDERSTANDING OF THE HISTORY AND CULTURE AROUND BUFORD TEACHING AND LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES TO CONNECT THE HISTORY AND CULTURE OF BUFORD IN OUR CLASSROOMS, WE WILL ENSURE THAT CLASSROOM TEACHERS LEAVE WITH THE RESOURCES AND ACCESS TO AFRICAN-AMERICAN HISTORY THROUGHOUT OUR COUNTRY.
THEY WILL LEAVE WITH HANDOUTS, CONCRETE ACTIVITIES, EXAMPLES, UM, THAT CAN BRING LESSONS ALIVE IN THE CLASSROOM.
SO WE ARE SO EXCITED FOR THAT OPPORTUNITY.
WE KNOW THAT EVERY ATTENDEE WILL NOT HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO SEE EVERY PRESENTER.
SO WE WILL CREATE A RESOURCE PAGE THAT WILL BE AVAILABLE TO ACCESS THE RESOURCES IN EACH OF THE SESSIONS, ALL OF OUR BUFORD COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT TEACHERS, UH, CERTIFIED PEOPLE WHO ATTEND THE CONFERENCE, WE'LL GET A TOTAL OF 16 CREDIT HOURS AT THE END OF THE WEEK, IF NOT HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO VIEW OUR DISTRICT WEBSITE, PLEASE DO THIS IS A SNAPSHOT OF, UH, ONE OF OUR SLIDES ON OUR WEBSITE THAT OUTLINES ALL OF OUR PRESENTERS THAT HAVE CONFIRMED, UM, THEIR PARTICIPATION IN OUR CONFERENCE.
AND AS YOU CAN SEE, WE HAVE A VERY, VERY GREAT LINEUP.
THIS CONFERENCE WAS CAREFULLY PLANNED.
OUR KEYNOTE SPEAKERS ARE AMONG OUR LOCAL AND NATIONAL.
UM, AS WELL AS AUTHORS, WE HAVE ARTISTS, WE HAVE EDUCATORS, WE HAVE CLERGY, WE HAVE HISTORIANS ENTERTAINERS WHO HAVE A DEEP AND PERSONAL CONNECTION TO THIS COMMUNITY.
AND I THINK THAT'S THE BEAUTY OF EVERYONE THAT YOU SEE ON THIS SLIDE ARE CONNECTED TO THE WORK THAT WE WANT TO DO WITH OUR STUDENTS.
UH, IN BUFORD COUNTY, WE HAVE 30 PRESENTERS.
WE HAVE 30 PRESENTERS WHO WILL HELP US DEEPEN OUR KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING FOR THE THREE DAYS.

UM, AGAIN, I JUST ASK THAT YOU LOOK AT OUR WEBSITE, YOU HAVE MORE DETAILED INFORMATION ABOUT EACH OF OUR KEYNOTE SPEAKERS.
UM, TOMORROW WE'LL HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO BE INTERVIEWED BY WSAV.
WE'RE VERY EXCITED ABOUT THAT.
WE HAVE OVER 200 PEOPLE WHO HAVE REGISTERED THUS FAR, UH, 65% OF THE PEOPLE REGISTERED ARE BUFORD COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT TEACHERS, ADMINISTRATORS, AND OR SUPPORT STAFF.
OUR, OUR ATTENDEES BASED ON THE INFORMATION THAT WE'VE COLLECTED THUS FAR ARE FROM OUR LOCAL COMMUNITY.
UM, BUT IT ALSO INCLUDES SOME OF OUR PRIVATE SCHOOL TEACHERS HAVE REGISTERED FOR THIS CONFERENCE.
OUR ATTENDEES WILL BE TRAVELING AS FAR AS ILLINOIS AND
[01:35:01]
PENNSYLVANIA, TO HEAR THE UNTOLD STORIES.IN ADDITION, WE WILL HAVE ATTENDEES WHO ARE REGISTERED FROM NORTH CAROLINA, FLORIDA, AND GEORGIA.
UH, JUST THE NAME OF FEW OF THE STATES THAT WE ARE ATTRACTING TO OUR FIRST ANNUAL CONFERENCE.
I WANT TO GIVE A BIG SHOUT OUT TO THE BATTERY CREEK CULINARY ARTS PROGRAM LED BY CHEF GREGORY LEITNER WILL ASSIST US IN PREPARING OUR MEAL, OUR LUNCH FOR OUR VERY FIRST DAY ON FRIDAY.
UM, SO WE ARE EXTREMELY EXCITED.
I CAN TELL YOU MORE, BUT I WANT TO KIND OF KEEP A LITTLE SECRET SO THAT, UM, YOU WILL HAVE SOMETHING THAT YOU CAN SHARE AFTER THIS WEEKEND.
MS. CUSHION BEAR, WILL YOU BE ABLE TO PLAY THE VIDEO? THANK YOU.
WE ARE VERY EXCITED TO HOST THE FIRST ANNUAL AFRICAN-AMERICAN HISTORY EDUCATION CONFERENCE RIGHT HERE IN THE HEART OF YOU FOR COUNTY UNTOLD STORIES IS SPONSORED BY BUFORD COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT, THE TECHNICAL COLLEGE OF THE LOW COUNTRY UNIVERSITY.
YOU KNOW, SOUTH CAROLINA BUFORD AND THE PENN CENTER, IT WILL BE HELD FEBRUARY 18TH THROUGH THE 20TH.
UM, SO STORIES PROMISES TO BE A DYNAMIC AND IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCE.
THE CONFERENCE IS OPEN TO ANYONE INTERESTED IN SHARING BUFORD COUNTY'S RICH AND DIVERSE HISTORY.
WE'RE LIVE MUSIC AND DANCE, GULLAH AND COMPELLING PRESENTATIONS FROM LOCAL AND NATIONALLY RENOWNED ARTISTS, AUTHORS, EDUCATORS, AND HISTORIANS VISIT OUR WEBSITE FOR EVENT DETAILS.
SO THAT WAS JUST A QUICK LITTLE ADVERTISEMENT, UM, FOR OUR CONFERENCE.
AND I JUST WANT TO END BY SAYING, THANK YOU SO MUCH BOARD MEMBERS FOR REGISTERING.
UM, YOU'RE GOING TO LEARN, LEARN A LOT ABOUT OUR COMMUNITY, AND I'M JUST SO EXCITED FOR THE SUPPORT.
UM, THIS CONCLUDES MY UPDATE FOR THE AFRICAN-AMERICAN HISTORY EDUCATION CONFERENCE.
CAMPBELL, THANKS FOR YOUR PRESENTATION.
UM, I HOPE THAT AFTER THIS WE'RE IN MUCH DEEPER INTO BLACK HISTORY AND I DON'T, I DON'T WANT US TO HAVE THE FIRST ONE AND YOU KNOW, THAT WE FEEL GOOD, YOU KNOW, BECAUSE I THINK EVERYONE NEEDS TO KNOW ABOUT THE HISTORY EXPERIENCE OF YOUR CONSCIENCE IN THIS AREA.
UM, SO I HOPE THAT MAYBE AFTER THIS ONE, WE COULD HAVE ONE WAY I, PEOPLE FROM THE COMMUNITY COMING DON'T EVEN UNDERSTAND HOW TO AT ALL AT ALL.
UM, I DID SOME RESEARCH AND I FOUND OUT THAT A LOT OF THE THINGS THAT WE'RE DOING TODAY, ESPECIALLY OUR YOUNG FOLKS, THAT'S NOT PART OF OUR CULTURE AND WE NEED TO TEACH THEM,
[01:40:02]
UH, AND GO MUCH DEEPER INTO THIS.THIS IS AN AWESOME WAY TO CELEBRATE BLACK HISTORY MONTH.
YOU AND YOUR TEAM HAS DONE A WONDERFUL JOB.
I WILL QUESTION LOCATIONS FOR FRIDAY AND SATURDAY.
SO WHERE FOR FRIDAY AND SATURDAY, WE'RE IN A LOCATION THAT EVERYBODY'S GOING TO NEED.
SO ON FRIDAY WE START OFF, UM, AT THE TECHNICAL COLLEGE OF THE LOW COUNTRY IN BUFORD.
SO I WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT I EMPHASIZE THAT BECAUSE WE HAVE TWO CAMPUSES.
UH, THE BUFORD TECHNICAL COLLEGE OF THE LOW COUNTRY IS WHERE WE WILL BEGIN.
UM, OUR MISTER OF CEREMONY IS QUINTILLION FIELDS, JR.
UM, SOME OF YOU MAY KNOW HIM, SOME OF YOU MAY NOT.
UH, I ENCOURAGE YOU TO COME AND HEAR HIS UNTOLD STORY.
I DON'T WANT TO GIVE TOO MUCH INFORMATION ABOUT HIM, BUT HE IS A STUDENT AT WESTBRIDGE, EARLY COLLEGE, HIGH SCHOOL, AND HE HAS A UNTOLD STORY THAT, UM, HE WILL SHARE WITH THE AUDIENCE.
SO WE WILL BEGIN AT THE TECHNICAL COLLEGE OF THE LOW COUNTRY CON LOW COUNTRY, UM, IN BUFORD.
AND THEN ON SATURDAY, IT WILL BE AT USC, BE DOWNTOWN BUFORD.
AND WE WILL END AT PENN CENTER.
MA'AM SMELL KIM CAMPBELL WHILE YOU'RE LIKE TO GIVE A SHOUT OUT TO KIND OF GUY WHO EARLY ON HAD HAD THIS CONCEPT THAT COULD BE DONE AND HE WAS GOING TO GET IT DOWN.
I LOOKED AT HIM AND SAID, AS A WHITE MAN ON THE BOARD, YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT AFRICAN-AMERICAN, YOU KNOW, THAT WAS OUTSTANDING, BUT YEAH, UH, I'LL GO AHEAD WITH, UH, MR. CAMPBELL, THAT WE NEED TO CONTINUE TO HAVE IT GOING ON AND NOT JUST BECAUSE LOCALLY, WE NEED TO LEARN MORE, BUT YOU KNOW, NATIONALLY, WE NEED TO LEARN ABOUT IT TONIGHT.
I TALK ABOUT DEVELOP CULTURE AND THE HISTORY THAT'S HERE AND THE HISTORY THAT'S HERE AND FOLKS FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD, COME THROUGH THE STORE WITH NOTHING ABOUT IT.
BUT YOU KNOW, THE SECOND THOUGHT IS, AND I TOLD YOU GUYS THIS STORY BEFORE LOCALS, WE ARE GRADUATING STUDENTS FROM HIGH SCHOOL, GOING INTO SOME OF THE GRANDER UNIVERSITIES IN AMERICA, AND THEY DON'T UNDERSTAND THE CULTURE OF THEIR HOMELAND, OF THEIR OWN SPOTS.
UH, THEY'RE GOING TO TEMPLE UNIVERSITY AND THEY DON'T WANT TO KNOW WHAT A DOLLAR IS.
THAT'S A TRAVESTY AND I, IN MY MIND, YOU GRADUATED FROM HIGH SCHOOL, DIFFERENT COUNTY.
YOU GO TO TEMPLE AND BOND RULES CHILDREN THOUGH.
THEY KNOW ALL THE DOLLARS OFF WHEN YOU KNOCK THOSE.
THAT'S NO PROBLEM IN MY MIND HOW WE EDUCATE.
SO THAT'S A DRIVING FORCE BEHIND MY BACK, MY BACK, THEY OF THIS EFFORT, BUT I KNOW EDUCATORS GET IT.
IF THEY'RE EDUCATORS US, LIKE WE ALL KNOW EDUCATORS, ARE THEY GOING TO RUN WITH IT? THERE'S GOING TO BE MORE THAN JUST THIS GO FOR THE CONFERENCE THAT IMPACTS THE FUTURE STUDENTS.
FIRST OF ALL, I LIKE TO SAY TO DR.
CAMPBELL, UM, HOW HAD A LARGE AMOUNT OF PEOPLE WHO WERE ACTUALLY HAVE CALLED ME AS YOU BOTH WERE SHOPPING AROUND THIS, UM, THE, THIS, UM, AND YOU KNOW, UM, IT'S INTERESTING WHEN I WAS ACTUALLY OUT OF THE PROGRAM THE OTHER DAY AND A OLDER LADY CAME AND SHE ASKED ME, SHE SAID, UH, SO TELL ME ABOUT WHAT'S THIS, ABOUT THIS AFRICAN-AMERICAN COME.
SHE SAID, WHAT DID SHE LOVE ABOUT IT? AND, UM, WHAT'D YOU THINK ABOUT IT? I SAID, UM, I SAID, WHAT IS OUT OF THE CONFERENCE TO EDGY KIND OF THE STORY, NUMBER ONE, THE RUNDOWN OF IT.
[01:45:01]
WHAT WAS THE COMMUNITY CAN BE ACCEPTED AS SADLY? SO SHE'S, I SAID, WELL, I CAN TELL YOU, I SAID TO YOU, SHE CAME, WHEN I CALLED HER, SHE WOULD CONTACT DR.CAMPBELL TO $5, RATHER THE COMMUNITY TO JUST GO IN DIFFICULTY TO GET THE UPDATES.
BUT IT WAS GOOD KNOWING THAT SHE KIND OF KNEW SOMEONE WHO COULD BRING TO YOU ALREADY, WHO SHE COULD CONTACT TO CONTACT WITH, TO GET UP AND GET UP IN THE MORNING, GET SOME INFORMATION THAT SHE, THAT SHE NEEDED.
AND, UM, IT'S JUST, IF THIS IS GOOD, THAT I'VE HAD A LOT OF PEOPLE, PEOPLE WHO, SOME WHO HAD TALKED TO THE LOT HAD REACHED OUT TO ME ABOUT THIS CONFERENCE AND ABOUT DIFFERENT THINGS.
AND, YOU KNOW, JUST WONDERING WHAT'S THE ROOMS OVER $80.
I THINK THEY HAVE THIS TIME IS VERY IMPORTANT.
THERE'S THIS MR. BROWN COUNT WITH THERE.
NOW ON THE FLIP SIDE OF IT, I DON'T HAVE TO HAVE A, SOME PEOPLE HAVE ASKED ME, YOU KNOW, UM, ONE GUY WHO WENT AS WELL, HE SAYS, WELL, YOU KNOW, UH, BE AS AT THE ADDITIONAL CONVERSATION, ON THIS ONE.
I SAID, YEAH, YEAH, WE ARE TALK ABOUT IT AT THE BOARD.
AND THEY WERE WANTING TO HEAR THIS ON OUR SERIOUS CONFERENCE AND HOW THEY REALLY WANT TO TALK ABOUT THE REAL HERITAGE OF AFRICAN-AMERICAN PEOPLE.
AND MY ANSWER TO THEM WAS YES.
AND THEN WHAT THEY, WHAT HE SAID WAS THAT HE HOPED THAT THIS IS NOT A ONETIME BECAUSE OF ALL OF WHAT'S GOING ON IN THE WORLD RIGHT NOW THAT THIS IS NOT.
SO I ONE TIME WHO BY YACHT, AND THEN THIS WILL BE A CONTINUATION AND THAT HE HAD HE ANY OTHER GLAND VERSUS PORTER THAT THE DISTRICT FAR ENOUGH OF THE AFRICAN-AMERICAN CULTURE IN THIS AREA TO ACTUALLY A CONFERENCE, TO, TO ADDRESS IT AND TO HELP OUR TEACHERS GOOGLE ON THE NEXT CASE, NO PROCESS TO GET TWO OFFERS.
AND, YOU KNOW, I'M SOMEONE WHO IS VERY, VERY STRONG COMMUNITY IN THAT, YOU KNOW, THAT THAT WAS SOMETHING THAT HE WANTED TO BE CONVEYED TO HIS BOARD.
AND THEY HAVEN'T TOLD HER THAT I WILL DO THAT.
AND BY MY SAYING THAT, YOU KNOW, I HATS OFF TO THAT CAMPBELL AND THAT SCRATCH ON OUR TEAM AND ALSO ABOUT ROCK AND EVERYONE WHO WAS PUTTING THEIR BLOOD, SWEAT, AND TEARS IN THIS CONFERENCE.
AND I BELIEVE THIS CONFERENCE WILL DEFINITELY SET THE TONE IN SOUTH CAROLINA FOR WHAT TO WHAT DISTRICTS SHOULD BE DOING TO HELP BRIDGE THE GAP BETWEEN THE COMMUNITIES GOING FOR.
ONE THING THAT IS, THIS CAN'T BE ON ONE AND DONE BECAUSE IT'S AN INTEGRAL PART DUE FOR COUNTY GRADUATE PROFILE, THIS INTERVIEW.
SO THIS GOES, THE WHOLE IDEA OF GOES, AND WE SHOULD BE SO PROUD THAT WE ARE GOING, THAT NOBODY ELSE SYSTEM, WE SHOULD BE SO PROUD THAT WE'RE BREAKING NEW GROUND.
WE'RE LOCALIZING EDUCATION THAT DOESN'T FINANCE.
MR. CAMPBELL SAID, NO ONE SHOULD GRADUATE FROM HERE.
AND AT SCHOOLS, IT DOESN'T KNOW SOMETHING ABOUT GOLF, OUR HISTORY AND CULTURE THERE'S, THERE ARE AMBASSADORS WHEN THEY GO OTHER PLACES, THERE ARE AMBASSADORS.
SO, YOU KNOW, IF YOU'RE A MACHIAVELLIAN BUSINESS PERSON, YOU'RE SAYING THIS IS DAMN GOOD FOR BUSINESS, BECAUSE THIS BRINGS TOURISTS HERE BECAUSE EVERYBODY THAT GO THERE GRADUATES IS PROUD OF THIS AREA AND THEY'RE AMBASSADORS.
SO KNOW THERE'S A, THERE'S A FINANCIAL UNDERPINNING TO ALL THIS.
IT'S NOT ALL JUST, UM, YOU KNOW, HAPPY, UM, KIND OF STUFF THAT THIS, THIS IS GOOD.
SO IT CAN'T BE A ONE AND DONE, IF IT IS, THEN WE'RE ALL GONNA START YELLING.
I THINK THE OTHER THING, UH, DISPATCH TO WHAT YOU'VE SHARED IS THAT, YOU KNOW, YOU KNOW WHAT ELSE IT BRINGS, IT BRINGS EDUCATORS FROM OTHER PARTS OF THE COUNTRY.
YOU KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS TO ME, RECRUITMENT RECRUITING, RIGHT? I MEAN, THIS IS A REAL, THIS IS A REAL ISSUE, RIGHT.
BUT ASIDE FROM, FROM THAT, RIGHT, THIS IS TIED ALL THE WAY AROUND INTO WHAT WE'RE TRYING TO TRY TO MEET.
YOU HAVE THEM DO A PROFILE OF YOU PRETENDING TO ENTER IT.
SO THE MORE YOU LEARN, THE MORE, YOU KNOW, YOU HAVE A LOT MORE TO LEARN.
AND I DON'T KNOW IF YOU REMEMBER THAT I WENT TO SCHOOL AT FLORIDA STATE UNIVERSITY.
REMEMBER WHAT THE MASCOT IS FOR FLORIDA STATE UNIVERSITY, SOME OF, OH, THERE'S, THERE'S INTERTWINED, UH, BETWEEN THE GULLAH CULTURE AND THE HISTORY SOMEHOW THEN NO, BUT I DID FIND THAT OUT A LITTLE BIT ABOUT IT.
[01:50:01]
NO MORNING, YOU DON'T KNOW, I JUST WANTED TO ADDRESS, UM, MR. EARL CAMPBELL.I JUST WANTED TO TELL YOU, MR. CAMPBELL, THAT OF OUR SESSIONS THAT WE'RE OFFERING, THERE ARE EIGHT SESSIONS THAT ARE SPECIFICALLY GEARED TOWARD GULLAH CULTURE.
SO I WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT, YOU KNOW, I SAID THAT, AND I CAN GIVE YOU MORE DETAILS ABOUT THE PRESENTERS FOR EACH OF THOSE SESSIONS.
CAMPBELL, THANK YOU VERY MUCH, NOT JUST FOR YOUR PRESENTATION TONIGHT, BUT FOR POURING YOURSELF INTO THIS WORK AND THE NEW 10TH TO THIS PROPERTY.
UM, AND I KNOW THAT IT'S MORE THAN A DAY PREVENTATIVE VISITS FOR OUR STUDENTS, SO THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
NEXT ITEM ON THE SUPERINTENDENT REPORT IS THE COVID-19 UPDATE.
AND SO I WANT TO SHARE WITH YOU THIS EVENING, FIRST OF ALL, THAT WE'RE SEEING A LARGE DECREASE IN COVID POSITIVE CASES THIS PAST WEEK, UM, FOR LAST WEEK, UM, WITH THE MOST CURRENT REPORT TO D HECK, UM, LAST WEEK'S NUMBERS, WE HAD 53 POSITIVE STAFF CASES THAT DOWN FROM 114 THE WEEK BEFORE, UM, AND WE SEE 323 POSITIVE STUDENT CASES THAT DOWN, UH, FROM 500 BEFORE, UH, IN TERMS OF ORIENTING STAFF THAT STAYED ABOUT THE SAME AT 58, UH, AND ORANGE IS 198.
SO, UH, WE'RE STARTING TO SEE, UH, THE DECLINE, UH, AND WE'RE HOPING AND EXPECTING THAT THAT IS WANTING TO CONTINUE.
WE CONTINUE TO REVIEW EACH SCHOOL SITUATION ON A DAILY BASIS SEVERAL TIMES A DAY.
AS A MATTER OF FACT, WE'LL CONTINUE TO FOLLOW THE REQUIREMENT FOR THE SCHOOL AND CHILDCARE, EXCLUDING TWO, CARRY SOME STATUTORY BOARD.
UH, I WANT TO TAKE A MOMENT AND JUST SHARE SEARCH DOCUMENTS, CERTAINLY THAT THE HECK OUT THERE, ONE IS THE SCHOOL, UH, AND CHILDCARE EXCLUSION LIST.
THE OTHER ONE IS STG HAD COVID-19 GUIDANCE FOR K-12 SCHOOLS THAT GUIDANCE FOR K-12 SCHOOLS DOCUMENT IS SUPERSEDED BY THE SCHOOL AND CHILDCARE EXCLUSION LIST, WHICH CARRIES STATUTORILY FORWARD.
I SAY THAT TO YOU BECAUSE THAT SCHOOL AND CHILDCARE EXCLUSION LIST IS WHAT WE'RE REQUIRED TO PICK UP THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION AS WE REVIEWED IT AND STILL, AND PULL TOOL DISTRICT WIRE BYE-BYE, IT IS NOT A SUGGESTION, NOT GUIDE WIRE, UH, FROM DMV, UH, DURING THE AGENDA SETTING, A MEETING THAT WE HAD, WE WERE ASKED TO ADDRESS THE LEGAL REQUIREMENTS THAT SCHOOL DISTRICTS ARE UNDER ARE FOLLOWED DX SCHOOL AND CHILDCARE AND EXCLUSION LIST, UH, AND, UH, REQUIREMENT.
AND SO I WON'T ASK THIS CARTILAGE OR LEGAL COUNSELOR TO PROVIDE THAT INFORMATION TO YOU.
THANK YOU FOR THIS OPPORTUNITY TO GIVE YOU AN UPDATE, UM, PURSUANT TO STATUTORY AUTHORITY, WHICH IS CONTAINED IN CHAPTER ONE, TITLE 44 OF THE SE CODE OF LAWS.
THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY HAS AUTHORIZED D HACK TO WELL, MAKE ADOPT PROMULGATE AND FORCE RULES AND REGULATIONS FROM TIME TO TIME REQUIRING A, TO PROVIDE FOR THE CARE OF SEGREGATION AND ISOLATION OF PERSONS HAVING OR SUSPECTED OF HAVING ANY COMMUNICABLE CONTAGIOUS OR INFECTIOUS DISEASE.
AND THEN THE REGULATION 61 POINT 20, THE OFFICIAL SCHOOL AND CHILDCARE EXCLUSION LIST OF CONTAGIOUS OR COMMUNICABLE DISEASES IS PUBLISHED BY THE DEPARTMENT AND KNOWN OR SUSPECTED CASES.
AND THOSE EXPOSED TO CERTAIN COMMUNICABLE DISEASES, WHETHER SYMPTOMATIC OR NOT CHILDREN AND STAFF ARE NOT PERMITTED TO ATTEND SCHOOLS WHEN THEY HAVE THESE CASES, THE EXCLUSION LIST IS PROVIDED IN THE LAW.
THIS EXCLUSION LIST SHALL INCLUDE SPECIFIC CONDITIONS FOR DURATION OF SCHOOL OR CHILDCARE EXCLUSION AS WELL AS CRITERIA FOR RETURN.
AND IT APPLIES TO BOTH STUDENTS AND STAFF, NO SUPERINTENDENT, PRINCIPAL TEACHER OF ANY SCHOOL, VITAL CHILDCARE, NO PARENT OR GUARDIAN
[01:55:01]
OF ANY CHILD OR MINOR SHALL PERMIT ANY CHILD OF MINOR HAVING OR SUSPECTED OF HAVING ANY COMMUNICABLE DISEASES, UM, TO BE PRESENT IN THE SCHOOL UNTIL SUCH TIME AS THE PUBLIC CONDITIONS PUBLISHED CONDITIONS FOR RETURN HAVE BEEN MET AT THE SCHOOL AND CHILDCARE EXCLUSION LIST WAS UPDATED ON JANUARY 8TH, AND THEN IT WAS UPDATED AGAIN ON JANUARY 15TH.AND THE SCHOOL DISTRICT WEBSITE CONTAINS THE MOST CURRENT UPDATED REVISIONS, WHICH WERE EFFECTIVE ON JANUARY 15TH.
AND AS YOU CAN SEE THERE, THE NEW, UM, ALLOWANCES ARE FOR TEACHERS AND SCHOOL STAFF TO WORK DURING QUARANTINE AND TIMES OF PRICES, STAFFING, AND CRITERIA FOR RETURN FROM QUARANTINE OF NEGATIVE TESTS ON DAY FOUR LATER TO BE STRONGLY RECOMMENDED FOR STUDENTS NO SOONER THAN DAY FIVE.
AND THEN THE TEST IS STAY PROGRAM TESTING CRITERIA CHANGE REQUIRE ONE NEGATIVE TEST BETWEEN DAYS FIVE THROUGH SEVEN AND ON THE, UM, THE D HECK EXCLUSION LIST, WHICH WAS UPDATED ON JANUARY 15TH.
UM, COVID-19 ALONG WITH MANY OTHER, UH, CONTAGIOUS DISEASES LISTS THE REQUIREMENTS OF WHEN, UH, STUDENTS AND STAFF WAS EXCLUDED AND WHEN THEY COULD BE RETURNED TO SCHOOL.
AND THOSE ARE INDICATED ON VARIOUS PAGES WITHIN THE DOCUMENT AND THE TOP OF THE PAGE STATES CHILDREN'S STUDENTS AND STAFF WITH THE FONTS CONDITIONS MUST BE EXCLUDED FROM THE SCHOOL AND THE CHILDCARE UNTIL EXCLUSION CRITERIA HAVE BEEN MET.
AND DOCUMENTATION HAS BEEN PROVIDED AS NOTED BELOW.
AND I SENT OUT TO ALL OF YOU, UH, INFORMATION REGARDING A MEETING THAT'S GOING TO BE TAKING PLACE ON THURSDAY EVENING AT SEVEN O'CLOCK WITH D HACK WHERE SOME MORE INFORMATION IS GOING TO BE PROVIDED FOR ALL OF US.
RODRIGUEZ WILL BE ATTENDING SUPERINTENDENTS MEETING WHERE D HECK WILL BE PRESENT.
SO IT SEEMS TO BE AN EVER-CHANGING STATE OF AFFAIRS TO HAVE THE REQUIREMENTS CHANGED FROM THE EIGHTH TO THE 15TH, BUT WE, UM, MUST COMPLY WITH THE SOUTH CAROLINA SCHOOL AND CHILDCARE EXCLUSION LIST BECAUSE IT'S REGULATED BY THE LAW.
ONE OF THE QUESTIONS THAT, UH, GETTING, UH, LATELY IS IN REGARDS TO QUARANTINE CASES THAT TURNED POSITIVE, UM, UH, THE SCHOOL DISTRICT REPORTS TO HECK WHEN THEY SEND, WHEN WE SEND OUR REPORTS TO DA, UH, ABOUT POSITIVE CASES, UH, FOR STUDENTS AND STAFF ABOUT, UM, UH, QUARANTINES FOR STUDENTS AND STAFF, UM, THE HACKERS ALSO COLLECTING INFORMATION FROM US ABOUT, UH, FOREIGN TEAM CASES THAT TURNED TO POSITIVE.
UH, SO SINCE THEY STARTED COLLECTING THIS INFORMATION, UH, WE HAVE HAD, UH, 10,078 FOREIGN TEAMS IN AND OUT OF THAT 1,257 TURNED POSITIVE.
SO THAT'S ABOUT 12% OF THE CASES THAT ARE WARRANTYING TURNED TO POSITIVE CASE.
UM, SO THAT TELLS YOU 88% OF THAT, UH, IS, IS NOT, THEY'RE NOT TURNING POSITIVE.
UH, AND I THINK THAT IS EXPOSING A LOT OF CONSTERNATION FOR EVERYONE, RIGHT.
UH, UH, SO, SO, UM, THAT IS THE STATE OF THE COVID UPDATE FOR YOU THIS, UM, I DO WANT TO TAKE A MOMENT BEFORE I END IT, UH, TO REALLY THINK AND OUR, AND RECOGNIZE ALL OF OUR STAFF, THE MORE BUS DRIVERS OR CAFETERIA OR TEACHERS OR ADMINISTRATORS IN SCHOOLS, UH, OUR DISTRICT OFFICE PERSONNEL, BECAUSE EVERYONE, I MEAN, EVERYONE IN ABUSER COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT IS PULLING TOGETHER AND WORKING VERY HARD TO MAKE SURE THAT OUR SCHOOLS STAY UP FOR FACE-TO-FACE INSTRUCTION.
UM, THIS IS SOMETHING THAT HAS SOMEONE AT ABOUT NUMEROUS TIMES, BECAUSE IT JUST DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE TO CONTINUE TO QUARANTINE A SYMPTOMATIC CHILDREN WHO ARE NOT AT A SUBSTANTIAL RISK FROM THIS VIRUS.
UM, THERE WAS A PERIOD OF TIME WHERE WE COULD, UH, EXCLUDE CHILDREN IN THE HOPES OF CONTAINING THE VIRUS.
I DON'T THINK THAT ANYONE WOULD ARGUE THAT THAT HAS BEEN A SUCCESSFUL STRATEGY OR THAT YOU HAVE ANY CHANCE TO CONTINUE THIS VIRUS AT THIS POINT, UH, PRIOR TO VACCINES, THERE WAS AN ARGUMENT YOU MADE THAT CHILDREN COULD NOT BE VACCINATED.
UM, SO I THINK THAT EXCLUDING APPARENTLY EXCLUDED OVER 8,000 CHILDREN FOR NO REASON WHATSOEVER.
AND THAT IS ROUGHLY WHAT, SOMEWHERE AROUND A
[02:00:01]
THIRD OF OUR STUDENT POPULATION, UM, THAT'S IMPACTING THEIR SOCIAL, EMOTIONAL WELLBEING, THAT'S IMPACTING THEIR EDUCATION.SO I LOOKED INTO THIS FAIRLY AGGRESSIVELY, UM, IN TERMS OF WHAT OUR OPTIONS WERE.
UM, I'VE TALKED TO A LOT OF PEOPLE AND WHAT I WANTED TO REACH OUT TO THE PUBLIC ABOUT IS THE SCHOOL BOARD IS NOT A LEGISLATIVE MAKING BODY.
WE CAN'T MAKE LAWS, WE CANNOT DIRECT THE SUPERINTENDENT TO BREAK LAWS AND STATUTES.
IT IS CLEAR TO ME THAT THE LEGISLATURE AND D HAT ARE IN CHARGE OF MAKING THESE EXCLUSIONARY TOLERANCES.
I'M HAPPY TO SIGN ON TO A LETTER ON IF THIS BOARD WANTED TO DO THAT.
UM, I DON'T THINK THAT WOULD BE PARTICULARLY EFFECTIVE.
I'M MORE THAN HAPPY TO GO ON THE RECORD AND SAY THAT I'M AGAINST, UH, CLOSE CONTACT QUARANTINING.
UH, BUT I THINK THAT, THAT THE APPROPRIATE AVENUE FOR, UH, PARENTS WHO ARE RIGHTLY FRUSTRATED WITH THIS POLICY WOULD BE TO CONTACT.
DO YOU HAVE, WOULD BE TO CONTACT YOUR LEGISLATURES, WRITE ABOUT YOUR EXPERIENCE.
AND I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO SAY THAT THERE IS A GROUP OF PHYSICIANS FROM UCLA, UC BERKELEY, UH, HARVARD, OXFORD, CANADIAN PHYSICIANS, PEDIATRICIANS, INFECTIOUS DISEASE, DOCTORS, BIOSTATISTICIANS AND EPIDEMIOLOGISTS WHO HAVE DEVELOPED AN ADVOCACY TOOLKIT, UM, CALLED URGENCY OF NORMAL.
AND IT PROVIDES STUDY AFTER STUDY ABOUT THE HARMFUL EFFECTS OF SCHOOL CLOSURES AND SCHOOL EXCLUSIONS.
IT GIVES NOT ONLY THE RAW DATA AND THE STUDY RESULTS.
IT ALSO BREAKS DOWN, UM, A SUMMARY OF EVIDENCE.
SO IF PARENTS, I THINK THE MOST EFFECTIVE THING FOR THOSE PARENTS ARE CONCERNED ABOUT THOSE CONTACTS, UM, QUARANTINING THAT THEY SHOULD WRITE, UH, INDIVIDUALLY TO THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH.
WHAT IS THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROL OR LEGISLATURES? UM, BECAUSE UNFORTUNATELY FROM EVERYTHING I FIND THE SCHOOL BOARD, IT CANNOT CHANGE THOSE POLICIES.
UM, I WOULD LIKE TO ECHO WHAT MS. BOATWRIGHT SAID IN REGARD TO THAT THERE ARE, UM, OPTIONS PRESENTLY AVAILABLE NOW THAT WERE NOT AVAILABLE TO US, UM, YOU KNOW, A YEAR AGO, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT COMES TO CHILDREN.
AND THERE'S A LOT MORE THAN WE KNOW NOW, UH, WITH REGARD TO THIS VIRUS, HOW IT AFFECTS CHILDREN AND ALSO HOW IT'S AFFECTING CHILDREN'S MENTAL HEALTH.
THAT'S SOMETHING THAT I'M EXTREMELY CONCERNED ABOUT, ESPECIALLY WHEN WE LOOK AT THE NUMBERS AND WE SEE THAT APPROXIMATELY 88% OF THE KIDS THAT WE'VE BEEN QUARANTINING, SOME OF THEM MULTIPLE TIMES, UM, ARE BEING VERY EFFECTED BY THESE QUARANTINE POLICIES.
UM, I ALSO WOULD SUPPORT A LETTER TO DEEPAK THAT STATES BASICALLY THAT THIS BOARD LIKE THEM TO RECONSIDER, UM, THOSE QUARANTINE POLICIES.
I JUST THINK THAT THEY ARE, UM, BECOMING MUCH MORE DETRIMENTAL.
UM, AND THEY HAVE BEEN IN PLACE MUCH LONGER THAN WE THINK ANY OF US ANTICIPATED.
UM, WHILE I APPRECIATE THAT THEY HAVE PIVOTED, UM, AND CHANGING SOME OF THOSE POLICIES, THEY CONTINUE TO CAUSE MUCH ANGST FOR FAMILIES AND FOR STUDENTS.
UM, ADDITIONALLY THERE IS THE TEST TO STAY OPTION THAT WE HAVEN'T DISCUSSED YET.
AND I HAVE HAD SOME BRIEF CONVERSATIONS WITH DR.
AND I WOULD JUST LIKE TO ASK A FEW QUESTIONS, UM, BECAUSE THAT IS SOMETHING THAT HE HAD ISSUED A STATEMENT ON TODAY THAT THEY ARE ENCOURAGING DISTRICTS TO ADOPT THE TEST, TO STAY, UM, OPTION.
AND I JUST LIKE EVEN MAYBE SPEAK UP FROM A THAT, OR WHERE WE ARE IN THAT PROCESS, IF IT'S AN OPTION TO US.
SO, UH, LET ME JUST SAY, UH, TWO THINGS, ONE, UH, WE HAVE BEEN EXPLORING, UH, TEST TO STAY OPTION, BUT WE HAVE NOT INITIATED THE TEST TO STAY OPTION.
AND AS PART OF THAT, BECAUSE THERE'S SOME CLARITY QUESTIONS THAT, THAT WE WANT TO MAKE SURE WE UNDERSTAND FULLY, UM, AND, UH, TO GET CLARITY AROUND THAT ON THURSDAY.
UH, BUT IN EFFECT, WHEN I UNDERSTAND THE TESTS THEY OPTION DOES IS IT PROVIDES, UH, AN EFFECT THAT PROVIDES STUDENTS WHO WOULD OTHERWISE BE QUARANTINE THAT ARE, UH, THAT ARE NOT SHOWING ANY SYMPTOMS, THE OPPORTUNITY, UH, TO STAY IN SCHOOL, WEARING A MASK FOR 10 DAYS.
THAT'S A REQUIREMENT AS ONE OF THE THINGS WE'VE HAD SINCE THE RULE CHANGE WAS, WE'VE HAD A FEW PARENTS WHO DON'T WANT THEIR CHILD TO WEAR A MASK THEY SIX THROUGH, BUT THAT'S A REQUIREMENT THAT THE HECK HAS OUT THERE ABOUT MINE GOT SCHOOL DISTRICTS, RIGHT.
THAT WOULD BE THE SAME WITH THE TEST TO SAVE THEM.
UH, AND THEN THERE, SO WE'VE GOT SOME CLARITY ISSUES THAT, THAT I WANT TO MAKE SURE I GET, UH, FROM DA.
AND I'M HOPING TO GET THAT ON THURSDAY SUPERINTENDENTS
[02:05:01]
ROUND TABLE MEETING, IN ADDITION TO TEST TO STAY, I KNOW THIS ISN'T WHAT YOU ASKED, BUT I'VE JUST THOUGHT ABOUT IT.IT MIGHT BE A GOOD TIME TO, TO, UH, EXPLAIN THIS PIECE.
UH, DEE HAD CONTACTED, UH, SCHOOL DISTRICTS AND ASKED IF, IF THEY HAVE THE AVAILABILITY TO GET, UH, AT HOME TESTS, IF SCHOOL DISTRICTS WANTED THOSE AT-HOME TESTS.
SO THAT WAS A SURVEY THAT YOU DID RESPOND TO THAT.
AND I DID SAY THAT WE'LL BE INTERESTED IN RECEIVING THOSE AT-HOME TESTS, NOT FOR US TO ADMINISTER HERE AT SCHOOL, BUT WHAT WE WOULD DO IS THERE WAS A STUDENT WHO, UH, HAD A WARRANTY, RIGHT.
THAT WHEN THEIR PARENTS CAME TO PICK THEM UP, THEN WE CAN HAND THEIR PARENTS, UH, THAT, THAT HOME TEST, UH, SORRY, UH, AT THAT HOME TEST.
AND, UH, BECAUSE THEY'RE DIFFICULT TO GET OUT THERE.
AND THAT'S ONE OF THE THINGS THAT OUR PARENTS ARE, ARE HAVING SOME CHALLENGES WITH GETTING THOSE.
SO, SO THE HAT IS THE POST TO SEND THOSE OUR WAY.
BUT MY, I UNDERSTAND IT'LL BE ABOUT TWO TO THREE WEEKS BEFORE THEY ACTUALLY STUFF.
SO IT'S A BRIEF FOLLOWUP TO NOTE ON THAT.
THEN IF IT SEEMS THAT THERE MIGHT BE ABOUT TWO TO THREE WEEKS BEFORE THE DISTRICT WOULD HAVE A LARGE QUANTITY OF TASKS THAT WE COULD DISTRIBUTE TO PARENTS OR TO SCHOOLS.
UM, AND THEN I WOULD LIKE TO MAKE A MOTION THAT BEFORE AT LEAST, UM, EXCUSE ME, NEAR SOME OF THE OTHER DISTRICTS LIKE RAYBOULD AND I BELIEVE LEFT FROM, UM, WHO HAVE ISSUED STATEMENTS TO THE HAT IN REGARD TO, UM, CHANGING THE REGULATIONS FOR FOREIGN TEAM ALSO WITHIN A CHIP.
UM, I'M VERY INTERESTED WITH IAN LIVE TEST DISTINCT PROGRAMS. UH, I KNOW THAT MY GRANDSON AND MASSACHUSETTS WHO'S IN KINDERGARTEN HAS HAD IT SINCE THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR.
UM, HE'S ALSO A YEAR OLD HAS BEEN VACCINATED, SO THAT IMPROVES THE EFFECT OF YOUR SUMMER.
UM, AND ALSO I, I'M INTERESTED WITH SUPPORT SENDING A LETTER TO D HECK ASKING THEM TO CHANGE THE QUARANTINE PORTION OF THEIR, UM, STATEMENT OF THEIR EXCLUSION.
I THINK THAT, UM, WE HAVE TOO MANY STUDENTS THAT ARE MISSING INSTRUCTION.
UM, WE WERE LUCKY ENOUGH TO BE ABLE TO OFFER THE ZOOM, BUT IT'S NOT THE SAME.
UM, THAT'S ONE OF THE THINGS I THINK THAT WE'VE LEARNED FROM THIS PANDEMIC, UM, IS THE IMPORTANCE OF IN-PERSON LEARNING.
SO I'M, UM, IN FAVOR OF SENDING A STATEMENT OR REQUEST IF THE BOARD, SO, UM, PAVERS IT, ASKING THEM THAT THEY LOOK AT THEIR QUARANTINE REGULATIONS FOR STUDENTS THAT DO NOT SHOW SYMPTOMS THAT ARE ASYMPTOMATIC APPEAR TO HAVE BEEN EXPOSED.
I THINK WE'RE KEEPING TOO MANY CHILDREN OUT OF SCHOOL.
UM, I ALSO WANT TO ECHO WHAT MS. BOATWRIGHT SAID, WE ARE REQUIRED TO FOLLOW THE LAW AND THIS LAW AS IT IS RIGHT NOW IS WHAT'S WHAT WE'RE FOLLOWING.
SO PLEASE FOLKS UNDERSTAND, WE CANNOT OVERRIDE THIS.
AND I THINK THOSE AS THE LAW IS WRITTEN, I THINK THE CHANGE WOULD HAVE TO BE TO THE EXCLUSION LIST, NOT TO THE GUIDELINES, BUT TO THE EXCLUSION LIST.
I SIT THE SIDE OF THE CONVERSATION BECAUSE I'M CONCERNED THAT THE 12% THAT FRANK MENTIONED ARE WE GOING TO EFFECTIVELY DIAGNOSE THAT 12%, THAT 12% THAT COMES UP FROM 10 YOU'D HIT ANY GROUP.
IT COULD CREATE A GREAT NUMBER, RIGHT DOWN, JUST OCCURRED, OCCURS.
IT GOES UNDETECTED CIRCUMSTANCE, AND THAT'S WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF YOU'RE NOT MONITORING THE POSITIVES TURNS OF THE FOLLOWING TEAM, WE GO EXPERIENCE IN A LOBBY OF THE CHILD STATE SCHOOL, THE JOB POSITIVE THESE DAYS IN SCHOOL, THEN THAT NUMBER CHANGES.
SO I'M CONCERNED WITH THEM, BUT THE FUNDAMENTAL BASICS
[02:10:01]
BEHIND HOW WE LIKED THE IDEA OF THE STATE TEST, HOW WE DETERMINED WAS POSITIVE MOVES, STOCKS AND SOME HARD FACTS ON CAN WE REALLY ISOLATE THAT 12%, UH, I'LL SUPPORT ANYTHING, BUT A JOB STAYING IN SCHOOL SHORT OF BEING A VICTIM WORLD, UM, UNFETTERED CIRCUMSTANCES, BOARD MEMBERS, WE HAVE EMOTIONAL DISCUSSION.I DON'T HAVE A QUESTION I ASK, UM, UM, NOBODY, THIS IS IN SCIENCE, PEOPLE TRYING TO SAVE YOUR LIFE.
SO , UM, FIRSTLY AND FOREMOST, I WOULD JUST LIKE TO SAY IN TERMS OF THE MOTION, UM, I WOULD SAY ON ONE HAND, WE WANT TO, WE ALWAYS ENCOURAGE PEOPLE TO TAKE A SHOWER OR WHATEVER.
AND WHEN WE BELIEVE, WE BELIEVE IN THAT, AND THEN WE BELIEVE IN THE SCIENCE, BUT THEN THERE'S MOST OF THESE TO WRITE A LETTER TO D HECK ACTION.
THEN TO TWITCH CHECK CHANGES, TO CHANGE GUIDELINES, UM, ASKING THEM TO CHANGE THEIR DESCRIPTION OF OTHER GUIDELINES OF QUANTITY OF RECORDING POLICY.
YOU KNOW, THIS CARE KNOW WE CAN'T PICK AND CHOOSE A SCIENCE.
I MEAN, IT'S, IT'S BEEN TOO LONG, WILL SUPPORT THE SCIENCE OR SUPPORT THE PEOPLE WHO COME UP WITH, WITH THIS, WITH THESE LAWS, BECAUSE THEY'RE COMING UP WITH THEM.
THERE'S GOTTA BE A REASONING BEHIND IT.
AND, UH, BEFORE LEAVING, BY LEAVING, LEAVING HOME, UH, UM, I, I, I SAW THERE WAS A NEW PLAN, UH, AT TERMINAL TERMINAL CORPORATE OR SOMETHING D OR B OR SOMETHING.
SO THERE'S SOME STUFF OTHER NEW SCRANTON'S POSSIBLY COMING OUT.
SO, YOU KNOW, ALL THAT CONCERNS ME WHEN, YOU KNOW, WHEN WE START SAYING THAT WE WANT TO WRITE A LETTER TO THE LEGISLATORS AND CONCERNING, UM, POSSIBLY CHANGING THE CHANGE IN THE DECISION ON THAT.
NO, I'M NOT REALLY SURE THAT I CAN DO THAT BECAUSE, UM, I DON'T THINK WE WROTE THAT BACK IN.
I'LL REMEMBER WHEN, WHEN THIS FIRST STARTED OUT AND WROTE A LETTER TO THE GOVERNOR, WHEN HE MADE THE DECISION TO MAKE MASKS, I'M INTO NOT MANDATE THAT WE BE TO HIM SAID HE SHOULDN'T MOVE.
SOME OF US WERE THERE, OH, WE DIDN'T WANT THE BATH MANDATION.
SO I DON'T THINK WE NEED TO SEND A LETTER TO BE RIGHT NOW BECAUSE I DON'T SEE HOW EFFECTIVE THAT'S GOING TO POSSIBLY BE.
RODRIGUEZ, NOT THINKING ABOUT MASKING THE QUESTION FIVE AND AFTER THIS, BECAUSE I DON'T WANT TO OPEN UP PANDORA'S ONCE AGAIN.
AND WHY I SAY THAT IS BECAUSE ONCE WE DO MEET OR WE PROMOTE THIS, WHAT'S THE NAME OF THIS TEST? NOT JUST DOES THE STAY, WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE TEST IS STAY IN THIS? I CAN'T HAVE COVID OR IF THEY MAKE THE TEST RESULT OF THE PARENT AND THE PARENT GOALS, BUT RECIRCLE ON STAFF.
SO MY QUESTION IS HOW, HOW, HOW, UH, HOW MUCH WORK WOULD THIS ENTAIL ON THE NURSING STAFF, ALONG THE STAFF, IN THE DISTRICT? I'M JUST REMINDING YOU.
WE HAVE A MOTION ON THE FLOOR, THE COSTS ABOUT SENDING A LETTER TO RECONCILIATE EXCLUSION.
EXCLUSION IS JUST NOT APPROPRIATE AT THIS TIME.
THANK YOU, MR. CHAIRMAN, I'M GOING TO SUPPORT THIS EMOTION.
NOT BECAUSE I THINK THEY'LL DO ANY GOOD, BECAUSE I DON'T THINK IF THE DA IS GOING TO FOLLOW THE SCIENCE AND WE'LL MAKE OURSELVES FEEL GOOD OR MAKE OUR CONSTITUENTS FEEL GOOD.
OH, SOME ARE CONCERNED ABOUT IT.
I'M LIKE MR. CAMPBELL, I'M CONCERNED ABOUT THE 12% THAT WOULD GO BACK IN AND INFECT OTHER KIDS.
[02:15:01]
IN SENDING THIS LETTER THE SAME.THIS IS WE'D LIKE YOU TO RECONSIDER AND TAKE A LOOK AT IT.
UM, BUT REMEMBER, THEY'RE NOT UNDER ANY OBLIGATION TO FOLLOW WHAT WE TELL THEM.
UM, LET ME JUST SPEAK BRIEFLY TO IT.
I THINK WE MIGHT AS WELL SIGN UP FOR HERE BECAUSE THERE IS A BUNCH OF SCIENTISTS WHO CONSIDER THEMSELVES EXPERTS AND THEY'RE GOING TO BE NICE.
AND THANK YOU FOR YOUR LETTER, JUST LIKE WE DO WHEN WE GET PEOPLE TALKING ABOUT AN EDUCATIONAL ISSUES.
I THINK SO WASTE OF TIME, I THINK RENNER WON'T BE, DO WE HAVE TO GET DISTRACTED BY LEGAL AND OUR SUGGEST WE WOULD EVEN FILL OUT HERE THURSDAY MEETINGS TO FIND OUT, UM, WHAT PETER IS GOING TO TELL THE SUPERINTENDENTS.
THOSE ARE MY COMMENTS SOMETIMES.
AND REFERENCE SOME, NOT SOMEONE ELSE.
I WOULD LIKE TO ACTUALLY WHAT LISTENED TO TERMS UP TO THE STAFF AND HOW, HOW ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT THE TEST TO STAY? YES, SIR.
THE WAY THE HECK HAS THE TEST TO STAY, UH, SET UP, IT WOULD BE THAT THERE'S A VENDOR THAT WOULD BE DOING THE TESTING AND THEY WOULD BE SET UP AT SOMETHING LIKE SEVEN OF THEM, BECAUSE AN EXAMPLE, SEVERAL LOCATIONS, UH, AROUND THE DISTRICT, UH, CREATE SOME PROXIMITY FOR FOUR PEOPLE.
AND THEN, UH, UH, THAT'S WHERE THEY WOULD GO, UH, AND TAKE WITH THAT.
AND THEN, UH, THAT'S HOW WE WORKED.
SO VENDORS, THEY WOULDN'T BE ON NURSES, ADMINISTERING STUFF, BUT YOU KNOW, THEY'LL HAVE TO, YOU DON'T KNOW THE RESULTS OF THE TEST, RIGHT? SO CAN YOU HELP ME? HOW WILL THAT, OH, WELL THAT INTERTWINED WITH OUR PROCESS, WHAT THAT WOULD LOOK LIKE.
UM, SO, SO THE TEST TO STAY AND THEY'LL HAVE TO BE SOME, UH, ORDINATION ON THAT SAME PIECE, BECAUSE RIGHT NOW MY UNDERSTANDING THE WAY OUR UNDERSTANDING OF HOW THAT TEST STATE WORKS, RIGHT? UH, THAT'S WHY I'M HOPING TO HAVE SOME MORE INFORMATION ON THE TEST TO STAY FROM THURSDAY MEETING.
THERE'S STILL SOME UNANSWERED QUESTIONS I WAS SAYING, WE NEED TO KNOW ABOUT LOGISTICS.
UH, BUT, UH, BUT, UM, UH, THE ACTUAL TESTING, UH, OF, OF THAT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE DONE TO, YOU KNOW, I TALKED, TALKED TO SOME OF THE PARENTS, YOU KIND OF LOSE THE ROUTE TO YOUR PARENTS, THAT YOUR WORK WITH THE NURSES, PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT THEY HAVE, UH, THEY HAVE ANY LICENSE AND THEY ARE POSSESSIVE.
THEY WORKED HARD FOR IT, AND THEY DON'T WANT TO LEAVE AT NO POINT IN TIME.
ARE THEY GOING TO ALLOW ANYONE TO PUT THEM IN JEOPARDY? SO YOU'RE NOT JUST WHEN IT COMES DOWN TO, I KNOW THAT THERE ARE NURSE, UM, UM, IN HER STAFF, THEY WERE FAR TIRELESSLY, PARADISE.
OUR PARENTS SHOUTING AT ME, NOT JUST BECAUSE THEY PLAN THEIR KIDS ARE, CAN'T GO BACK TO SCHOOL BECAUSE, BECAUSE OF NURSES, I HAD WORKED OUT HERE AT NIGHT, SO KNOW THEY WORK IN TENNESSEE.
SO I WILL NOT DO ANYTHING THAT WILL MAKE
[02:20:01]
ANY MORE WORK ON NURSES.I WILL NOT HAVE TO MOVE IN THAT LOVING SUPPORT.
ANYTHING THAT WE'RE PUTTING ANYTHING ELSE ON THEIR WORKLOAD QUALITY? I WON'T SAY THAT.
I JUST WANTED TO MAKE A PUBLIC COMMENT TO DR.
RODRIGUEZ, JUST SO THAT, YOU KNOW, I KNOW THAT THE CAST TO STAY IS A DISTRICT DECISION.
I JUST WANTED YOU TO KNOW THAT YOU TO MAKE THAT COMMENT.
UM, I KNOW IT MIGHT BE A LITTLE, A FEW WEEKS AWAY, BUT FULLY SUPPORT.
THEY HAD OPTIONS FOR PARENTING STUDENTS.
IN THE MINUTES FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT WILL INDICATE A PRESENTATION IN THE AFRICAN-AMERICAN DISTRICT CONFERENCE.
THE SEMINAR BEN ASKED ME TO GO THROUGH, BUT IT TAKES US TO THE CONSENT

AND GIVE AN UPDATE ON THE WORK THE BOARD DID AT THE WORK SESSION.
COULD YOU SAY THE END OF MARCH? I JUST SAID IN MARCH, I DIDN'T HAVE A DATE.
THE DATE IS MARCH 30TH, MARCH 12TH.
UM, ACADEMIC, UM, COMMITTEE REPORTS.
I WOULD JUST MRS. KATHY ROLLABYE STATED THAT THE ACADEMIC COMMITTEE MET ON JANUARY 26TH, 2022.

I'M GOING TO HAVE ONE CORRECTION.
FIRST EMOTION COMING OUT OF EXECUTIVE SESSION SHOULD BE 2020 TO WELCOME.
JENNA, MR. SMITH MADE THE ANNOUNCEMENT THAT IT IS A BLACK HISTORY MONTH.
I LIKE TO MOVE AND WE ACCEPT THE MINUTES AS PRESENTED ALL SECOND.
AND I WOULD JUST SAY UNDER THAT, THIS IS WHAT I WAS GOING TO SAY FOR DISCUSSION.
I THINK IT WOULD JUST SOUND BETTER UNDER THE, UM, YOUR CHAIRMAN'S REPORT IS REALLY CALLED A STATEMENT OF ECONOMIC INTEREST.
UM, MUST BE FILED BY EACH BOARD MEMBER WITH A SOUTH DALLAS, TEXAS CONDITION IS CLEAR WHAT IT IS, WHAT IT IS.
YEAH, I, I CAN'T SUPPORT ACCEPTING THIS BECAUSE I CAN'T, WE DON'T PUT AN OFFICIAL VERBAL MEETING MINUTES AND WE HAVE TO SEE THEM IN WRITING.
I NEED TO SEE THE MINUTES AND VARIETY BEFORE I WOULD VOTE TO APPROVE.
IN ADDITION TO WHICH ACCORDING TO ROBERT'S RULES OF ORDERS, THE MEETING MINUTES ARE APPROVED AT THE NEXT MEETING.
SO IF WE WANT TO MAKE A MOTION THAT WE HAVE IDENTIFIED ALL THE POTENTIAL CORRECTIONS, BUT THERE'S NO WAY THAT I WOULD VOTE FOR PROOF THE MEETINGS UNTIL I SAW HIM.
THAT'S WHY I WAS JUST SHARING MY OPINION.
WE PROBABLY WANT TO RECONSIDER THIS IF IT'S NOT GOING TO BE EFFICIENT SO INGRID'S POINT WE CAN CALL THEM THE DRAFT MINUTES VERBAL.
SO THAT THEN ROBIN WILL, UM, I THINK THIS MAKES IT MUCH EASIER FOR ROBIN WITH HAVING GONE THROUGH THEM, BUT DON'T THINK IT'S A WASTED STEP AT ALL, BUT IT COULD JUST HAVE THE DRAFT.
AND THEN THE NEXT MEETING, I DO THINK YOU COULD SEE THEM AS WRITING, BUT WE SAY, THAT'S IT THAT'S, THIS IS OUR PERMANENT RECORD.
THAT WOULD BE MY SUGGESTION HAVING DONE IT.
THAT, TO ME, THAT BECOMES CLEAR.
IT WASN'T CLEAR TO ME UNTIL JUST NOW.
WELL, UH, ONE THING I WILL SAY TO, UM, TO YOU, UH, FOR TRYING TO TROUGH CLUES FOR WHERE YOU ACT THE EFFORT AND WHAT SHE'S DONE WITH THAT , UH, STARTING TIMES.
AND ALSO SOME, I MEAN, BUT ALSO, UM, I BELIEVE THAT IF THERE WERE SOME RULES WERE ALSO, THERE IS SOMETHING THAT IS, UH, THAT, THAT, THAT AS YOU WANT TO REVISIT THAT THE, THAT, THAT THE OTHER THOUGHT , THERE WAS SOMETHING TO PEOPLE WERE SUPPORTIVE, WHO WOULDN'T SUPPORT, OR IF THERE IS SOMETHING THAT WE SEE THAT THEN NEEDS TO BE CORRECTED,
[02:40:01]
THEN WE DIDN'T NEED TO HAVE THE RIGHT TO AS A BOARD TO BRING THE DOCUMENT AS BEFORE.AND THE DECORATION AS THANK YOU.
I HAVE MR. SMITH AND SAYING, I THINK IT'S GREAT THAT WE'RE TRYING TO MAKE IT MORE EFFICIENT.
THE ONE THING IS THAT I DON'T SEE WHY ROBIN COULD JUST EMAIL IT TO US TONIGHT AND WE'D HAVE A CHANCE TO READ IT, BECAUSE THAT IS THE THING I'M SENSITIVE TO AS THE STAFF HAS TO SIT HERE.
WELL, THIS IS BASICALLY AN INTERNAL BOARD ISSUE IN TERMS OF THE MINUTES.
WE'RE GOING TO COME TO MEETINGS THAT GO ON TILL 10 30, AND WE'RE GOING TO HAVE YOU HAVE 20 MINUTES OF READING BACK THE MINUTES AND STAFF HAS A WAY, SO JUST A SUGGESTION.
AND I WOULD JUST SAY, JUST EMAIL THEM OUT TOMORROW.
WELL, I CAN REVISIT THIS OTHER SUGGESTIONS.
WE NEED TO ADJOURN THE COUNTY CHANNEL IS ALSO AVAILABLE ON VIDEO, ON DEMAND, GO TO BUFORD COUNTY S C.GOV, SCROLL DOWN TO PUBLIC MEETINGS, CLICK WATCH NOW, AND THEN CLICK THE VIDEO ON DEMAND BUTTON AND SELECT YOUR PROGRAM FROM MELISSA CALL TO ORDER IF YOU'D LIKE A DVD OF THIS PROGRAM, CLICK ON THE LINK ON THE RIGHT AND FILL OUT THE ORDER FORM.
AND THANK YOU FOR WATCHING THE COUNTY CHANNEL.
HERE'S WHAT'S HAPPENING IN BUFORD COUNTY.
A LOT OF GOOD NETWORK GOING ON OUT THERE, JUST LIKE A CHAMBER OF COMMERCE EVENT, RIGHT? THAT'S PERFECT.

WELL, I HAVE TO GIVE A QUICK INTRODUCTION TO NOEL.
SHE'S BEEN INVOLVED FROM THE VERY BEGINNING WITH UNITED,
[02:45:01]

WHO'S A REPRESENTATIVE FROM AUSTIN DALLAS INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT.
ON BEHALF OF METROPOLITAN WASHINGTON AIRPORT AUTHORITY.

AGAIN, WELCOME TO THE DULLES INTERNATIONAL FAMILY.
WE'RE VERY EXCITED TO BE LINKED UP WITH WASHINGTON DULLES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT AND UNITED.
AND NOW AT THIS TIME, I'D LIKE TO HAVE OUR HOMETOWN MAYOR, JOHN MCCANN COME UP AND SAY A FEW WORDS.
I KNOW THIS ONE OF HIS FAVORITE THINGS TO DO SO WELCOME MR. MAYOR.
I LIKE TO HEAR THAT BACKGROUND SOUND EFFECTS AGAIN UNTIL LIKE THE YOUNG LADY THAT JUST GOT JUST NOW.
I MEAN, IT SOUNDS LIKE A REALLY IN AN AIRPORT, IT FEELS REALLY GOOD.
WELL, ON BEHALF OF THE TOWN IS HILTON HEAD ISLAND.
I WELCOME YOU ALL TODAY, SUSAN, IT'S NICE HAVING YOU HERE WITH US.
UH, THERE IS NO BETTER PLACE FOR THE FRIENDLY SKIES OF UNITED TO FLY OVER THERE OVER THE NUMBER ONE ISLAND IN THE COUNTRY.
HILTON HEAD ISLAND CAN OPERATE TO LODGE DOMESTIC AND INTERNATIONAL FLIGHT NETWORK ALL THROUGH THE WORLD.
AND I MUST TELL YOU A PERSONAL STORY.
WHEN I WAS DATING MY WIFE, VALERIE, SHE LIVED IN SAN FRANCISCO AND I FLEW THE UNITED FLIGHT EVERY FRIDAY AFTERNOON AT FOUR O'CLOCK FROM THE GULF TO SAN FRANCISCO, UH, MONTHS AND MONTHS IN A ROW WORTHWHILE TRIP.
BUT I MUST TELL YOU WHEN YOU FLY THE SAME PLANE EVERY WEEK, SAME TIME, IT'S THE SAME MOVIE.
[02:50:01]
YOU GET THE SAME MOVIE FOR A WHOLE MONTH.SO I HAVE VERY, VERY MEMORABLE AND DEAR EXPERIENCES FLYING AT NIGHT AT ALL THROUGH THE COUNTRY.
OUR GOAL IS TO ENSURE THE, THE WELCOMING AND THE CARE OF OUR PEOPLE ARE HERE, OUR RESIDENTS AND OUR TOURISTS.
AND I FEEL THEY'RE IN SAFE HANDS WITH, WITH THE UNITED COMING IN.
UM, WHAT WILL, THIS HAS BEEN PUT TOGETHER BY JOHN HUMBOLDT AND HIS PEOPLE ALL TOO OFTEN, WE GIVE OURSELF A LOT OF CREDIT.
THE TOWN HAS EMPLOYEES WITH JOHN AND HIS STAFF HAS DONE AN EXCELLENT JOB ON THIS JOHN AND BEHALF OF THE TOWN.
I'M HAPPY PERSONALLY TO HAVE UNITED HERE IN, BACK INTO MY LIFE.
AND I THANK YOU ALL FOR COMING AND GO UNITED.
NOW WE'D LIKE TO INTRODUCE OUR CHAIRMAN OF COUNTY COUNCIL, MR. STU RODMAN.
I APPRECIATE YOU ALL BEING HERE.
UM, THE EXPANSION OF ALL OF THE AIRLINES HERE WILL BE A SIGNIFICANT EVENT FOR HILTON HEAD AND FOR THE AREA, BOTH FROM AN ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT STANDPOINT AND FOR A TOURIST STANDPOINT, I THINK WE'LL PROBABLY PICK UP BETWEEN ALL THE AIRLINES, PROBABLY A HUNDRED THOUSAND ADDITIONAL PEOPLE COMING THAT WOULD NOT HAVE OTHERWISE COME TO THE AREA FOR BOTH TOURISM AND FOR CORPORATE HOSPITALITY.
SO IT'S GOING TO BE GREAT, A LITTLE HISTORY.
UH, I USED TO WORK FOR UNITED TECHNOLOGIES, WHICH WAS A RE ORIGINALLY UNITED AIRCRAFT AND 90 YEARS AGO, UNITED AIRCRAFT, UNITED AIRLINES AND BOEING WE'RE ALL THE SAME COMPANY.
IN FACT, UNITED WAS ACTUALLY STARTED BY BOEING.
SO I REFRESH MY MEMORY ON THE HISTORY.
SO 90 YEARS AGO, UNITED HAD 60 PILOTS.
THEY WERE BASICALLY IN THE, UH, AIR CARGO BUSINESS.
AND, UM, THEY DID THE NUMBER OF PASSENGERS.
BOARDING DAILY WAS ABOUT 25 AND IT TOOK FOUR OR FIVE DAYS TO FLY ACROSS THE COUNTRY.
SO THERE WERE PROBABLY A HUNDRED PEOPLE IN ROUTE AT ANY PARTICULAR TIME.
THE STEWARDESSES WERE REGISTERED NURSES AND THE HUBS ARE THE SAME AS THEY ARE TODAY FOR THE MOST PART.
SO SOME, SOME INTERESTING HISTORY, BUT WE DO WELCOME UNITED.
LOOK FORWARD TO A LONG RELATIONSHIP WITH YOU.
AND THANK YOU, JOHN, FOR ALL YOU'VE DONE.
I SHOULD GO WITHOUT SAYING THAT WE CAN'T DO WHAT WE DO HERE AT THE AIRPORT WITHOUT THE SUPPORT OF THE TOWN OF HILTON HEAD AND, UM, COUNTY COUNCIL AS WELL.
AND NOW ANOTHER VERY IMPORTANT PERSON I WANT TO INTRODUCE.
SHE'S KIND OF SNEAKING AWAY OFF THE SIDE THERE, BUT, UM, THE PERSON WHO I REFER TO AS THE NUMBER ONE CHEERLEADER FOR THE HILTON HEAD ISLAND AIRPORT IS LESLIE RICHARDSON.
I THOUGHT SHE SNUCK OFF WITH THEIR CREW.
SHE'S ALWAYS GETTING THE CREW MOVING AROUND TO THE RIGHT PLACE.
UM, WHEN I MENTIONED TO LESLIE THAT WE WOULD LOVE TO HAVE SOME MORE COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT IN THESE EVENTS, SHE JUMPED UP AND BASICALLY JUST KIND OF PUSHED ME OUT OF THE WAY AND SAID I GOT THIS.
SHE IS THE BIGGEST CHEERLEADER FOR THE AIRPORT.
I'M SUPER HAPPY TO HAVE HER IN A GROUP INVOLVED.
AND THE YACHT CLUB WAS HERE YESTERDAY FOR THE FIRST FLIGHT IN AND THE FIRST DEPARTURE.
SO EVERYBODY GOT A REAL GOOD FEELING OF THAT SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY WHEN THEY CAME TO HILTON HEAD ISLAND AND THE ONES LEAVING.
CERTAINLY, UH, WE'LL MISS IT WHILE THEY'RE GONE, BUT I'M SURE IT'LL COME RIGHT BACK.
WELL, I HOPE YOU ALL GOT TO SEE MY STAFF HERE.
AND THEY HAVE MADE THE MOST INCREDIBLE CUPCAKES WITH H H H I A D.
SO BE SURE YOU TAKE ONE BECAUSE IT'S GOING TO BE A COLLECTOR'S ITEM.
ANYWAY, I AM LESLIE WINTERTON AND WE LOVE THE HILTON HEAD ISLAND AIRPORT.
WE ARE SO EXCITED AND MY DAUGHTER HAS JUST ACCEPTED A JOB IN WASHINGTON DC.
SO I PROMISE I WAS TALKING TO YOU YESTERDAY ABOUT SALES.
WE WILL BE GOING ON THIS FLIGHT SO MANY TIMES WE ARE SO EXCITED AND I JUST CAN'T TELL YOU, JOHN RAINBOWED AND HIS LEADERSHIP HAS REALLY BEEN AMAZING AND YOU HAVE DELIVERED ON ALL THE PROMISES YOU MADE.
I DID MENTION THIS IS A CHAMBER OF COMMERCE EVENTS TO KNOW NO, THAT WOULD BE COMPLETE WITHOUT THE CHAMBER BEING HERE IN SAYING A FEW WORDS.
I WANT TO HAVE OUR CHAMBER PRESIDENT CEO, BILL MILES COME UP AND RIGHT AFTER BILL SPEAKS, WE'RE GOING TO DO OUR RIBBON CUTTING AS WELL, BILL.
AND IT IS AN EXCITING DAY FOR HILTON HEAD ISLAND.
AND WHEN YOU THINK BACK, MAYBE A YEAR AGO, TWO YEARS AGO, AND WE WOULD'VE SAID APRIL 1ST, WE'LL BE AT THE AIRPORT ON HILTON HEAD ISLAND FOR RIBBON CUTTING FOR UNITED SOMEBODY.
[02:55:01]
THOUGHT THAT'S PROBABLY THE BEST APRIL FOOL'S JOKE.SO THE GREAT THING IS IT'S NOT.
AND ON BEHALF OF THE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE, IT'S OUR PLEASURE TO WELCOME UNITED AS WELL AS THE AIRPORT IN BELLA'S TO THE HILTON HEAD ISLAND, FAMILY.
IT'S INDEED A PLEASURE TO HAVE, UH, YOU SERVICING OUR LOCAL AIRPORT HERE.
AND WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT ALL THE GREAT THINGS TO COME AND THE PARTNERSHIPS THAT WE WILL HAVE AS WE MOVE FORWARD WILL BE ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC.
NOT ONLY FOR OUR LOCAL RESIDENTS IS GREAT FOR OUR VISITORS, AND IF YOU'RE GOING TO HAVE A THRIVING COMMUNITY, YOU'VE GOT TO HAVE A VIBRANT AIRPORT.
AND THIS AIRPORT RIGHT NOW IS VIBRANT AND LOTS OF PEOPLE HAVE BEEN INVOLVED IN MAKING THAT HAPPEN.
AND FROM JOHN RAMBLE, HIS BOARD OF DIRECTORS, THE COUNTY, THE TOWN, SO MANY PEOPLE, UH, HAVE HELPED THIS DAY COME TO FRUITION.
SO ON BEHALF OF THE CHAMBER, WE THANK YOU.
WE SALUTE YOU AND WE'RE HONORED TO HAVE UNITED SERVICING HILTON HEAD ISLAND HAVE A GREAT DAY.
I JUST WANT TO THANK EVERYBODY FOR BEING HERE TODAY.
WE DO HAVE SOME, UH, REFRESHMINTS OVER ON THE SIDE.
I ALSO WANT TO THANK OUR PARTNERS WITH THE FAA, THE SOUTH CAROLINA AERONAUTICS COMMISSION.
AND OF COURSE THE TOWN, THE COUNTY I'M GOING TO THANK TSA.
NOT A LOT OF PEOPLE THINK TSA, BUT THEY WENT THROUGH A LOT WITH US.
SO WE THANK THEM FOR THEIR FLEXIBILITY.
WE'LL DO PHOTOS UP FRONT AND THAT'S WHAT'S HAPPENING IN BUFORD COUNTY.
