UM, THEN THE FOLLOWING DAY, WE WERE MET OUT IN FRONT OF THE SCHOOL WITH, UH, SOMEONE WEARING AN FBI SWEATSHIRT, UM, WHICH I DON'T GET IT.

UH, I DIDN'T THINK THAT WE HAD FBI AT THE SCHOOL AND IT ALIGNS SOME PARENTS.

AND I THINK IT'S DISGUSTING THAT YOU WOULD ALLOW SCHOOL STAFF TO WEAR THAT.

UM, THE FOLLOWING MONDAY, WHEN I, THE SCHOOL, WE STARTED TO WALK HIM IN AND HE WENT TO CLASS, ALL, UH, THE SECURITY GUARD.

AND, UH, HE WAS PRETTY INTIMIDATED BY THAT.

AND THEN THE KIDS JUST WANTED TO BE IN CLASS BECAUSE IT'S NOT NECESSARY TO DO THAT.

I THINK THE TEACHER OR SOMEBODY ELSE PROBABLY COULD HAVE PULLED HIM OUT OF CLASS, BUT THAT'S THREE TIMES MY SON'S CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS WERE VIOLATED UNDER THE PILLAR OF LAW.

SO I'M PUTTING HIM ON NOTICE WITH THAT.

UM, I'M REALLY DISAPPOINTED IN THE WAY YOU'RE TREATING THE SCHOOL DISTRICT AND OVERKILL.

AND ONE YEAR, I MEAN, NO, IT'S LESS THAN 500 CHILDREN HAVE DIED OF COVID IN ONE YEAR IN THE ENTIRE UNITED STATES, FAR MORE CHILDREN DIED FROM PNEUMONIA.

MORE CHILDREN HAVE DIED FROM OTHER ILLNESS.

CHILDREN ARE MORE LIKELY TO GET IN A CAR ACCIDENT AND DIED.

THAT'S THE DIET COVID I DON'T KNOW WHY WHEN WE GET THESE DIFFICULT RESTRICTIONS THAT ARE, THAT OVERSTEP THEIR CONSTITUTIONAL.

AND TO BE HONEST WITH YOU AS A PARENT, I DON'T SEE ANY REASON WHY YOU'RE KEEPING KIDS OUT OF SCHOOL THAT ARE

WE TALKED ABOUT RIGHT CHOICES, STRUCTURE, PROCESSES, AND SPECIAL ED SERVICES POINTED OUT SCENARIOS WILL BE LOOKED INTO.

WE HAD PRIORITY SCHOOLS UPDATE.

YOU TALKED ABOUT RE-ENGAGING VOLUNTEERS AND THAT MELDED A LITTLE BIT, OUR NEXT STRATEGIES FOR PREVENTING TEACHER BURNOUT.

AND WE HAD KIND OF A BRAINSTORMING SESSION, BUT IN THE END, UM, DR.

RODRIGUEZ IS TASKED TO COME UP WITH SOMETHING IN ADDITION TO WHAT'S ALREADY GOING ON QUITE A BIT, BUT WE NEED TO, WE NEED TO COME UP WITH SOMETHING SOMETHING WANT, CAUSE WE ALL KNOW THERE IS BURNOUT.

WE'VE TALKED ABOUT STUDENT PERFORMANCES AND WHEN CELEBRATION FORMAT, WHETHER THEY SHOULD BE IN PERSON OR CONTINUE TO BE ASSUMED.

WELL, I BELIEVE OUR CONCLUSION WAS THAT PARENTS WHO WANT TO COME VERSUS WE WELCOMED THAT IT'S NOT, WE'VE TALKED ABOUT COMMITTEE MEETINGS, WHETHER WE NEEDED A LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEE, AS OPPOSED TO JUST STAYS ON THE OVERWHELMING COMMITTEE.

SO WE'VE GONE FROM HAVING NO LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEE TO HAVING A COMMITTEE OR FOUR PEOPLE ALL APPROVAL.

THERE ARE FOUR PILLARS OF OUR PROFILE, AND THOSE ARE A GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP, HISTORICAL KNOWLEDGE, FINANCIAL LITERACY, AND ECO LITERACY.

SO WHERE ARE WE NOW? WE HAVE OUR PROFILE COMPLETE.

AND SO WHAT THE STAGE RIGHT NOW IS WE'RE DEVELOPING UNITS OF STUDY AND THOSE ARE GOING TO BE AT ALL LEVELS.

UH, I KNOW THAT DR CAMPBELL'S WORKING HARD AND THAT IS GOING TO BE AN AMAZING LEARNING OPPORTUNITY FOR US AS EDUCATORS AND FOR OUR COMMUNITY.

WE HAVE DEVELOPED SOME, UM, ZOOM THAT THEY HAVE DONE ZOOMS AND OUR TEACHERS ARE CURRENTLY USING THOSE RESOURCES AND THEIR WORK WITH THE RIVER OF WORDS, COASTAL DISCOVERY MUSEUM, ANOTHER GREAT PARTNER OF BUFORD COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT WHO WORKS WITH US.

AND OF COURSE THEY DO A LOT OF WORKSHOPS FOR OUR TEACHERS, UM, VIRTUAL FIELD TRIPS.

THAT'S GONNA REALLY HELP US RIGHT NOW.

WE'RE REALLY LOOKING AT HOW WE CAN GET INTO THOSE PLACES THAT AREN'T CURRENTLY OPEN, BUT WE STILL WANT TO BE ABLE TO SHARE THAT EXPERIENCE WITH OUR STUDENTS.

I MEAN, HOW WONDERFUL IS THAT FOR THE WORK THAT WE'RE DOING? SO THAT'S AWESOME.

AND THEN WE WILL CONTINUE OUR WORK ON DEVELOPING, DOCUMENTED QUESTIONING UNITS, LIKE THE ONE THAT WE'RE PAYING FOR, UM, THE RACHEL MATHER STORY.

OUR FOCUS FOR THIS CONFERENCE IS FOR ATTENDEES AND EDUCATORS, TO HAVE A DEEP, DEEPER UNDERSTANDING OF THE HISTORY AND CULTURE AROUND BUFORD TEACHING AND LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES TO CONNECT THE HISTORY AND CULTURE OF BUFORD IN OUR CLASSROOMS, WE WILL ENSURE THAT CLASSROOM TEACHERS LEAVE WITH THE RESOURCES AND ACCESS TO AFRICAN-AMERICAN HISTORY THROUGHOUT OUR COUNTRY.

SO THEY WILL LEAVE COUNTY.

THEY WILL LEAVE WITH HANDOUTS, CONCRETE ACTIVITIES, EXAMPLES, UM, THAT CAN BRING LESSONS ALIVE IN THE CLASSROOM.

THAT'S DOWN FROM 2,160.

SO, UH, WE'RE STARTING TO SEE, UH, THE DECLINE, UH, AND WE'RE HOPING AND EXPECTING THAT THAT IS WANTING TO CONTINUE.

AND THEN THE REGULATION 61 POINT 20, THE OFFICIAL SCHOOL AND CHILDCARE EXCLUSION LIST OF CONTAGIOUS OR COMMUNICABLE DISEASES IS PUBLISHED BY THE DEPARTMENT AND KNOWN OR SUSPECTED CASES.

AND THOSE EXPOSED TO CERTAIN COMMUNICABLE DISEASES, WHETHER SYMPTOMATIC OR NOT CHILDREN AND STAFF ARE NOT PERMITTED TO ATTEND SCHOOLS WHEN THEY HAVE THESE CASES, THE EXCLUSION LIST IS PROVIDED IN THE LAW.

THIS EXCLUSION LIST SHALL INCLUDE SPECIFIC CONDITIONS FOR DURATION OF SCHOOL OR CHILDCARE EXCLUSION AS WELL AS CRITERIA FOR RETURN.

AND IT APPLIES TO BOTH STUDENTS AND STAFF, NO SUPERINTENDENT, PRINCIPAL TEACHER OF ANY SCHOOL, VITAL CHILDCARE, NO PARENT OR GUARDIAN

OF ANY CHILD OR MINOR SHALL PERMIT ANY CHILD OF MINOR HAVING OR SUSPECTED OF HAVING ANY COMMUNICABLE DISEASES, UM, TO BE PRESENT IN THE SCHOOL UNTIL SUCH TIME AS THE PUBLIC CONDITIONS PUBLISHED CONDITIONS FOR RETURN HAVE BEEN MET AT THE SCHOOL AND CHILDCARE EXCLUSION LIST WAS UPDATED ON JANUARY 8TH, AND THEN IT WAS UPDATED AGAIN ON JANUARY 15TH.

AND THE SCHOOL DISTRICT WEBSITE CONTAINS THE MOST CURRENT UPDATED REVISIONS, WHICH WERE EFFECTIVE ON JANUARY 15TH.

AND AS YOU CAN SEE THERE, THE NEW, UM, ALLOWANCES ARE FOR TEACHERS AND SCHOOL STAFF TO WORK DURING QUARANTINE AND TIMES OF PRICES, STAFFING, AND CRITERIA FOR RETURN FROM QUARANTINE OF NEGATIVE TESTS ON DAY FOUR LATER TO BE STRONGLY RECOMMENDED FOR STUDENTS NO SOONER THAN DAY FIVE.

AND THEN THE TEST IS STAY PROGRAM TESTING CRITERIA CHANGE REQUIRE ONE NEGATIVE TEST BETWEEN DAYS FIVE THROUGH SEVEN AND ON THE, UM, THE D HECK EXCLUSION LIST, WHICH WAS UPDATED ON JANUARY 15TH.

UM, COVID-19 ALONG WITH MANY OTHER, UH, CONTAGIOUS DISEASES LISTS THE REQUIREMENTS OF WHEN, UH, STUDENTS AND STAFF WAS EXCLUDED AND WHEN THEY COULD BE RETURNED TO SCHOOL.

AND THOSE ARE INDICATED ON VARIOUS PAGES WITHIN THE DOCUMENT AND THE TOP OF THE PAGE STATES CHILDREN'S STUDENTS AND STAFF WITH THE FONTS CONDITIONS MUST BE EXCLUDED FROM THE SCHOOL AND THE CHILDCARE UNTIL EXCLUSION CRITERIA HAVE BEEN MET.

AND DOCUMENTATION HAS BEEN PROVIDED AS NOTED BELOW.

ONE OF THE QUESTIONS THAT, UH, GETTING, UH, LATELY IS IN REGARDS TO QUARANTINE CASES THAT TURNED POSITIVE, UM, UH, THE SCHOOL DISTRICT REPORTS TO HECK WHEN THEY SEND, WHEN WE SEND OUR REPORTS TO DA, UH, ABOUT POSITIVE CASES, UH, FOR STUDENTS AND STAFF ABOUT, UM, UH, QUARANTINES FOR STUDENTS AND STAFF, UM, THE HACKERS ALSO COLLECTING INFORMATION FROM US ABOUT, UH, FOREIGN TEAM CASES THAT TURNED TO POSITIVE.

UH, SO SINCE THEY STARTED COLLECTING THIS INFORMATION, UH, WE HAVE HAD, UH, 10,078 FOREIGN TEAMS IN AND OUT OF THAT 1,257 TURNED POSITIVE.

SO THAT'S ABOUT 12% OF THE CASES THAT ARE WARRANTYING TURNED TO POSITIVE CASE.

RIGHT.

UM, SO THAT TELLS YOU 88% OF THAT, UH, IS, IS NOT, THEY'RE NOT TURNING POSITIVE.

OKAY.

UH, AND I THINK THAT IS EXPOSING A LOT OF CONSTERNATION FOR EVERYONE, RIGHT.

UH, UH, SO, SO, UM, THAT IS THE STATE OF THE COVID UPDATE FOR YOU THIS, UM, I DO WANT TO TAKE A MOMENT BEFORE I END IT, UH, TO REALLY THINK AND OUR, AND RECOGNIZE ALL OF OUR STAFF, THE MORE BUS DRIVERS OR CAFETERIA OR TEACHERS OR ADMINISTRATORS IN SCHOOLS, UH, OUR DISTRICT OFFICE PERSONNEL, BECAUSE EVERYONE, I MEAN, EVERYONE IN ABUSER COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT IS PULLING TOGETHER AND WORKING VERY HARD TO MAKE SURE THAT OUR SCHOOLS STAY UP FOR FACE-TO-FACE INSTRUCTION.

UM, THIS IS SOMETHING THAT HAS SOMEONE AT ABOUT NUMEROUS TIMES, BECAUSE IT JUST DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE TO CONTINUE TO QUARANTINE A SYMPTOMATIC CHILDREN WHO ARE NOT AT A SUBSTANTIAL RISK FROM THIS VIRUS.

UM, THERE WAS A PERIOD OF TIME WHERE WE COULD, UH, EXCLUDE CHILDREN IN THE HOPES OF CONTAINING THE VIRUS.

I DON'T THINK THAT ANYONE WOULD ARGUE THAT THAT HAS BEEN A SUCCESSFUL STRATEGY OR THAT YOU HAVE ANY CHANCE TO CONTINUE THIS VIRUS AT THIS POINT, UH, PRIOR TO VACCINES, THERE WAS AN ARGUMENT YOU MADE THAT CHILDREN COULD NOT BE VACCINATED.

THEY NOW CAN BE DOCUMENTED.

UM, SO I THINK THAT EXCLUDING APPARENTLY EXCLUDED OVER 8,000 CHILDREN FOR NO REASON WHATSOEVER.

AND THAT IS ROUGHLY WHAT, SOMEWHERE AROUND A

THIRD OF OUR STUDENT POPULATION, UM, THAT'S IMPACTING THEIR SOCIAL, EMOTIONAL WELLBEING, THAT'S IMPACTING THEIR EDUCATION.

SO I LOOKED INTO THIS FAIRLY AGGRESSIVELY, UM, IN TERMS OF WHAT OUR OPTIONS WERE.

UM, I'VE TALKED TO A LOT OF PEOPLE AND WHAT I WANTED TO REACH OUT TO THE PUBLIC ABOUT IS THE SCHOOL BOARD IS NOT A LEGISLATIVE MAKING BODY.

WE CAN'T MAKE LAWS, WE CANNOT DIRECT THE SUPERINTENDENT TO BREAK LAWS AND STATUTES.

IT IS CLEAR TO ME THAT THE LEGISLATURE AND D HAT ARE IN CHARGE OF MAKING THESE EXCLUSIONARY TOLERANCES.

I'M HAPPY TO SIGN ON TO A LETTER ON IF THIS BOARD WANTED TO DO THAT.

UM, I DON'T THINK THAT WOULD BE PARTICULARLY EFFECTIVE.

I'M MORE THAN HAPPY TO GO ON THE RECORD AND SAY THAT I'M AGAINST, UH, CLOSE CONTACT QUARANTINING.

UH, BUT I THINK THAT, THAT THE APPROPRIATE AVENUE FOR, UH, PARENTS WHO ARE RIGHTLY FRUSTRATED WITH THIS POLICY WOULD BE TO CONTACT.

AND I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO SAY THAT THERE IS A GROUP OF PHYSICIANS FROM UCLA, UC BERKELEY, UH, HARVARD, OXFORD, CANADIAN PHYSICIANS, PEDIATRICIANS, INFECTIOUS DISEASE, DOCTORS, BIOSTATISTICIANS AND EPIDEMIOLOGISTS WHO HAVE DEVELOPED AN ADVOCACY TOOLKIT, UM, CALLED URGENCY OF NORMAL.

AND IT PROVIDES STUDY AFTER STUDY ABOUT THE HARMFUL EFFECTS OF SCHOOL CLOSURES AND SCHOOL EXCLUSIONS.

IT LOOKS AT CDC DATA.

IT GIVES NOT ONLY THE RAW DATA AND THE STUDY RESULTS.

IT ALSO BREAKS DOWN, UM, A SUMMARY OF EVIDENCE.

SO IF PARENTS, I THINK THE MOST EFFECTIVE THING FOR THOSE PARENTS ARE CONCERNED ABOUT THOSE CONTACTS, UM, QUARANTINING THAT THEY SHOULD WRITE, UH, INDIVIDUALLY TO THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH.

WHAT IS THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROL OR LEGISLATURES? UM, BECAUSE UNFORTUNATELY FROM EVERYTHING I FIND THE SCHOOL BOARD, IT CANNOT CHANGE THOSE POLICIES.

THAT'S SOMETHING THAT I'M EXTREMELY CONCERNED ABOUT, ESPECIALLY WHEN WE LOOK AT THE NUMBERS AND WE SEE THAT APPROXIMATELY 88% OF THE KIDS THAT WE'VE BEEN QUARANTINING, SOME OF THEM MULTIPLE TIMES, UM, ARE BEING VERY EFFECTED BY THESE QUARANTINE POLICIES.

UM, I ALSO WOULD SUPPORT A LETTER TO DEEPAK THAT STATES BASICALLY THAT THIS BOARD LIKE THEM TO RECONSIDER, UM, THOSE QUARANTINE POLICIES.

I JUST THINK THAT THEY ARE, UM, BECOMING MUCH MORE DETRIMENTAL.

UM, AND THEY HAVE BEEN IN PLACE MUCH LONGER THAN WE THINK ANY OF US ANTICIPATED.

UM, WHILE I APPRECIATE THAT THEY HAVE PIVOTED, UM, AND CHANGING SOME OF THOSE POLICIES, THEY CONTINUE TO CAUSE MUCH ANGST FOR FAMILIES AND FOR STUDENTS.

UM, ADDITIONALLY THERE IS THE TEST TO STAY OPTION THAT WE HAVEN'T DISCUSSED YET.

AND I HAVE HAD SOME BRIEF CONVERSATIONS WITH DR.

SO 90 YEARS AGO, UNITED HAD 60 PILOTS.

THEY HAD 40 AIRPLANES.

THEY WERE BASICALLY IN THE, UH, AIR CARGO BUSINESS.

AND, UM, THEY DID THE NUMBER OF PASSENGERS.

BOARDING DAILY WAS ABOUT 25 AND IT TOOK FOUR OR FIVE DAYS TO FLY ACROSS THE COUNTRY.

SO THERE WERE PROBABLY A HUNDRED PEOPLE IN ROUTE AT ANY PARTICULAR TIME.

THE STEWARDESSES WERE REGISTERED NURSES AND THE HUBS ARE THE SAME AS THEY ARE TODAY FOR THE MOST PART.

SO SOME, SOME INTERESTING HISTORY, BUT WE DO WELCOME UNITED.
