[00:00:01]
CLOSED CAPTIONING PROVIDED BY BEAVER COUNTY.
[1. CALL TO ORDER]
THE BUFORD COUNTY AIRPORT'S BOARD MEETING TODAY IS THURSDAY, AUGUST 19TH, 2021.AND IF EVERYBODY GO AHEAD AND MUTE, UH, LESLIE HOWARD, BRIAN, IF Y'ALL WOULD MEET.
UM, JUST SO THE FEEDBACK AGAIN TODAY IS THURSDAY, AUGUST 19TH, 2020 1:30 PM.
WE'LL GO AHEAD AND CALL THE MEETING TO ORDER, UH, NOT TO START OFF WITH THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE OR BUY WITH STAND AND LET'S DO THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE PLEDGE ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, TO THE REPUBLIC FOR WHICH IT STANDS ONE NATION UNDER GOD, INDIVISIBLE WITH LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL.
SO WE'LL GO AHEAD AND ANNOUNCE A PUBLIC NOTIFICATION OF THIS MEETING HAS BEEN PUBLISHED, POSTED AS TRIBUTES DISTRIBUTED IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE SOUTH KIND OF FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT.
[4. APPROVAL OF AGENDA]
APPROVE THE AGENDA.UM, HOPE EVERYBODY HAS THE AGENDA IN FRONT OF THEM.
THAT'S BEEN SENT OUT BY ELENA.
SO I NEED A MOTION TO APPROVE THE AGENDA, HOWARD.
I NEED A SECOND, UH, CHRIS BUTLER SECONDS.
[5. APPROVAL OF MINUTES – JULY 15, 2021]
WE NEED APPROVAL OF THE PREVIOUS MINUTES.THE PREVIOUS MEETING WAS HELD ON JULY 15TH, 2021 AT 1:30 PM.
THAT WAS A WEBEX MEETING ALSO.
UM, IF ANYBODY HAS ANY COMMENTS OR SUGGESTIONS OR CHANGES TO THE MEETING MINUTES, UH, GO AHEAD AND RAISE YOUR HAND.
WE'LL CALL ON YOU AND WE CAN MAKE THOSE ADJUSTMENTS ACCORDINGLY.
I DON'T SEE ANYBODY MAKING ANY CHANGES THAT THAT'S THE CASE.
I NEED A MOTION TO APPROVE THE MEETING MINUTES FROM JULY 15TH, 2021.
THE MEETING MINUTES FROM JULY 15TH, 2021 ARE APPROVED AS WRITTEN NEXT.
UH, WE'LL OPEN THE FLOOR UP TO ANY PUBLIC COMMENT.
AGAIN, WE ASK YOU TO LIMIT IT TO THREE LIMITED TO THREE MINUTES.
IF FOR SOME REASON, UH, YOU NEED MORE THAN THREE MINUTES, JUST ASK FOR IT.
AND THE BOARD WILL, UH, HOPEFULLY ACKNOWLEDGE AND, AND, AND, UH, PROVIDE THAT IF REQUIRED.
SO ANY PUBLIC COMMENTS AT THIS TIME? ANYONE.
[7. DIRECTOR’S REPORT]
TO THE DIRECTOR'S REPORT.UM, BEFORE WE JUMP INTO THE, UH, LIKE A LITTLE POWERPOINT, THEY USUALLY DO WITH SOME NOTES.
WHAT I WANT TO DO FIRST IS SHOW YOU A VIDEO.
THE COUNTY CHANNEL'S GOT THIS QUEUED UP, SO I'LL LET THEM GET READY WITH THIS, BUT A VIDEO THAT I SHOWED TO COUNTY COUNCIL, UM, MOSTLY COUNTY COUNCIL ON MONDAY DURING THE PUBLIC FACILITIES COMMITTEE MEETING.
UH, WHAT WE DID WAS A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO, WE PUT A TIME-LAPSE CAMERA IN THE TERMINAL AND SHOWED A VIDEO OR CAPTURE VIDEO ON THE LAST TWO SATURDAYS, JUST TO GIVE EVERYBODY AN IDEA OF WHAT THE TERMINAL LOOKS LIKE, WHAT THE FLOW OF PEOPLE LOOKS LIKE ON A SATURDAY.
I KNOW THAT, UM, COUNCILMAN RODMAN, AND OF COURSE, LESLIE HAVE HAD A GOOD, UH, VIEW OF WHAT THAT LOOKS LIKE, BUT WE WANT TO SHARE THAT WITH THE RESCUE.
SO I'M GOING TO LET THE COUNTY CHANNEL, UH, TAKE THIS FOR A SECOND AND GO AHEAD AND SHOW THAT VIDEO.
WE DON'T HAVE THE TIME, BUT YOU COULD TELL BY THE, THE LIGHT AROUND THERE WHEN IT'S MORNING AND AFTERNOON AND NIGHTTIME, YOU CAN SEE THE CROWDS STARTED TO BUILD MID DAY.
IT'S BUSY THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE BUILDINGS.
AND COUNTY COUNCIL WAS WAITING FOR MICK JAGGER TO WALK THROUGH THE MIDDLE.
AND I STARTED TO MOVE INTO THE LATE AFTERNOON, STARTING TO WIND DOWN AND GETTING INTO THE EVENING HERE.
ALL RIGHT, THEN THE NEXT DAY YOU'RE GOING TO SEE IS GOING TO BE IN THE FIRST WEEKEND IN AUGUST.
[00:06:01]
ALL RIGHT.SO AS YOU CAN SEE, UM, YOU KNOW, WE'VE GOT A LOT OF PEOPLE THAT ARE MAKING THEIR WAY IN AND OUT OF THAT TERMINAL.
AND I THOUGHT THAT CAMERA WAS KIND OF UNIQUELY POSITIONED BECAUSE YOU CAN REALLY CAPTURE BASICALLY ALL THE BODIES IN DIFFERENT PARTS.
YOU COULD SEE THE FOLKS COMING FROM TICKETING, KIND OF UNDERNEATH THE CAMERA, GETTING INTO THE TSA CHECKPOINT, WAITING LINE.
UH, BUT THAT I THOUGHT THAT VANTAGE POINT WAS, WAS OPTIMAL BECAUSE YOU CAN ALSO SEE, UH, THE HUGE BUILDUP OF FOLKS IN THE TSA LINE, AS WELL AS AT THE RENTAL CAR COUNTERS AND ALL THE WAY AT THE FAR END, UM, AND BAGGAGE CLIENT.
SO, UH, I THINK THE TAKEAWAY THERE IS THAT THIS, AS I'VE SAID BEFORE, AND THEN, YOU KNOW, THIS BETTER THAN ANYBODY ELSE, THAT THIS IS THE SAME BUILDING, UM, THAT WE'RE SEEING ON A PEAK SATURDAY, SOMEWHERE BETWEEN MAYBE 200 AND 300 PEOPLE.
AND WE'RE NOW SEEING, YOU KNOW, ANYWHERE FROM FIVE TO SIX TIMES, THAT NUMBER OF PEOPLE ON A SATURDAY.
SO IF THERE'S ANY NON-BELIEVERS IN THE TERMINAL PROJECT, HOPEFULLY WE'VE CONVERTED.
UH, BUT REALLY PART OF THE POINT THERE WAS TO LET COUNCIL SEE, YOU KNOW, WHAT THAT MANY PEOPLE LOOKS LIKE IN A SMALL BUILDING LIKE OURS.
AND THAT'S JUST, YOU KNOW, WE ONLY HAD THE BAND AT ONE OF THE LOBBY AND THE LOBBY IS A LOT BIGGER THAN THE WHOLE ROOM.
SO IF WE WERE TO PUT CAMERAS IN THE WHOLE ROOMS, UM, WE MIGHT GET OURSELVES IN TROUBLE THERE.
SO WE'RE NOT GOING TO DO THAT.
UM, BUT SUFFICE IT TO SAY, YOU KNOW, WE'VE GOT ABOUT, UH, 25 TO 2,700 SQUARE FEET, GIVE OR TAKE OF WHOLE ROOM SPACE AND THE DESIGN OF, UH, FOR THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE WE'RE SEEING RIGHT NOW CALLS FOR ABOUT 7,200 SQUARE FEET OF WHOLE ROOM SPACE.
SO WE'VE GOT A THIRD OF WHAT WE ACTUALLY NEED.
SO THAT'S WHY THE TERMINAL IS GOING TO GET BUILT.
UH, SO I'D ASK EACH ONE OF YOU TO BECOME AN ACTIVE ADVOCATE TO COUNTY COUNCIL, AS WELL AS TOWN COUNCIL.
UM, BECAUSE I THINK IT'S, UH, IT'S HARD TO ARGUE AGAINST, UH, THE PREMISE THAT MOST OF THE ECONOMIC IMPACT IS STAYING ON, ON THIS SIDE, ON THE ISLAND SIDE OF THE BRIDGE.
SO WE NEED A, WE NEED EVERYBODY'S HELP, BUT WE STILL HAVE A FUNDING GAP.
THIS IS AN EXPENSIVE PROJECT, IS A SIGNATURE PROJECT.
SO WE NEED EVERYBODY'S HELP ON THE BOARD TO ENGAGE YOUR COUNTY COUNCIL MEMBERS AND YOUR TOWN COUNCIL MEMBERS TO GET ON BOARD.
AND, UH, AND SO THAT WE CAN BUILD THIS, WE WANT TO BE ABLE TO BID AND, AND BUILD THIS TERMINAL UNDER A SINGLE CONTRACT.
WE DON'T WANT TO HAVE TO PHASE OUT THIS CONTRACT WITH MULTIPLE GENERAL CONTRACTORS AND TRY TO MARRY UP A COUPLE OF DIFFERENT PLANS.
SO, UH, THAT'S MY PLEDGE TO YOU TODAY, AND WE'VE GOT MORE THINGS TO SHOW, BUT I JUST WANT TO SHOW YOU THAT VIDEO.
SO AT THIS POINT, I'M GOING TO SHARE MY SCREEN AND SEE ACTUALLY I MIGHT JUST, YEAH, HOLD ON.
LET ME GET THE RIGHT SCREEN HERE.
EITHER BUSH TO SEE A POWERPOINT PRESENTATION POP UP HERE IN JUST A SECOND.
SO WELCOME TO THE BOARD MEETING AUGUST 19TH AND TODAY IS AVIATION DAY, BY THE WAY, IT'S ALMOST WRIGHT'S BIRTHDAY.
SO THIS IS WHEN THE STATE AND, UH, I GUESS THE NATION IN SOME FORM CELEBRATES AVIATION DAY, THIS IS AVIATION WEEK AS WELL.
SO IF YOU, UH, IF YOU HAVE A HUG YOUR PILOT TODAY, GO AHEAD AND DO THAT.
JUST A COUPLE OF GENERAL, UM, GENERAL UPDATES HERE FOR YOU OVER AT ARW OR LOT READY TO KICK OFF A TERMINAL UPGRADE PROJECT THAT WE'VE BEEN WAITING OUT FOR A REAL LONG TIME, AS YOU MAY RECALL.
UH, WE'RE FUNDING THAT WITH AGE TAX DOLLARS THAT WE'VE APPLIED FOR IN THE LATE WINTER OF LAST YEAR.
AND THEN WE WERE AWARDED THAT, UH, THAT MONEY IN THE SPRING.
SO WE'RE GOING TO BE ABLE TO AFFECT SOME NICE CHANGE IN THE TURMOIL THERE.
UH, AND THEN THE, I TOLD YOU A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE BRIEF THAT I GAVE COUNTY COUNCIL OF PUBLIC FACILITIES COMMITTEE MEETING ON MONDAY.
[00:10:01]
UM, AND I, I WENT THROUGH ANOTHER POWERPOINT PRESENTATION THAT KIND OF SHOWED THE GROWTH OF THE SERVICE AT HILTON HEAD ISLAND AIRPORT.UH, AND THEN THE NUMBERS THAT WE'VE SEEN, SOME OF THE IMPROVEMENTS THAT WE'VE MADE TO TRY TO DEAL WITH SOME OF THE GROWING PAINS AND JUST THE CONGESTION THAT WE'VE HAD OVER THE SUMMER, AND THEN RECAP SOME OF THE PROJECTS AND FINISHED OFF WITH KIND OF A, UH, TOUR OF THAT NEW TERMINAL BUILDING BY WAY OF THE, UM, UH, ARCHITECTS RENDERINGS AND ELEVATIONS THAT WE HAD.
SO THAT WAS, THAT WAS THIS PAST MONDAY AT THE PUBLIC FACILITIES COMMITTEE MEETING THE RAMP PROJECT, AND HILTON HAD TO STARTING, UH, AT THIS POINT STARTING THIS WEEK, AND THEN IT'LL BE CARRYING ON FROM THERE.
SO WE'LL START TO SEE JUST THE BASIC STARTING UP WITH SILT FENCE GOING IN AND TREE CLEARING AND THINGS LIKE THAT.
AND THEN SOMETIME AFTER LABOR DAY, WE'LL START TO SEE THE, UM, THE PROJECT START IN EARNEST.
SO WE'LL BEGIN WITH THE PREP WORK, AND THEN WE'LL START SEEING SOME OF THE ASPHALT AND CONCRETE GOING DOWN FOR THAT RAMP PROJECT.
SO THAT'S A GOOD THING COMING AND THAT, UH, HAS A, FOR ALL THE PAVING FOR ALL THE ASPHALT AND CONCRETE PAVING THAT WOULD BE DONE IN FEBRUARY.
SO AT THE LATEST, MAYBE DON'T BEFORE THEN, BUT THAT'S THE WAY IT IS FOR THAT.
SO THAT PROJECT IS MOVING ALONG, WHICH IS GREAT.
AND THEN JUST A GOOD NEWS UPDATE FOR YOU.
WE DID RECEIVE THE AIP 47, WHICH IS THE FAA GRANT, AND THAT COVERS THE ARF TRUCK THAT WE'VE TALKED ABOUT AS WELL AS THE DESIGN AND BIDDING FOR THE RUNWAY AND TAXIWAY STRENGTHENING PROJECTS.
THAT'S THE RUNWAY THEN TAXIWAY FOXTROT, UM, THAT IS A 100% FAA GRANT.
SO THAT SAVES THE STATE MONEY.
UM, SO, AND YOU CAN, I PROBABLY SHOULD'VE TOLD YOU TO MENTION THAT IN YOUR MEETING.
UM, BUT THAT'S A GOOD NUGGET TO TAKE TO, UM, TO THE STATE BECAUSE THAT'S, YOU KNOW, 5% OF THAT IS NOT BEING PAID FOR BY THE STATE AND IS NOT BEING PAID FOR BY THE AIRPORT AS WELL.
SO THAT OBVIOUSLY HELPS EVERYTHING ELSE.
UM, AS FAR AS THE BUDGET GOES.
SO LET'S HEAD OVER TO LADY'S ISLAND.
UM, TALK ABOUT THE, FOR EXECUTIVE AND THE STATS OVER THERE, ALL DASH WITH A JET NOISE IN THE BACKGROUND, THAT'S A SOUND OF COMMERCE, UM, HAVE GAS, BIG HORN FOR AB GAS.
WE CAN SEE THAT THE CHANGES THAT CHRIS AND TRAY, UM, BRAINSTORMED LAST YEAR ARE DEFINITELY PAYING OFF FOR US.
IT'LL GET US A GOOD VOLUME, UH, SOLD THERE.
UH, LIKE I BRIEF LAST LAST MONTH WE ARE MAKING A MARGIN ON THAT FUEL.
SO IT IS A MONEY-MAKING OPERATION.
AND THEN THE JET FUEL HAD A REAL STRONG MONTH AS WELL.
UH, SOME OF THIS WAS HELD BECAUSE WE HAD SOME AIR FORCE GUESTS WHO CAME IN AND DID SOME TRAINING AND THEY DRANK A GOOD BIT OF FUEL FUEL.
SO THAT DEFINITELY HELPED THE NUMBERS, BUT AS YOU CAN SEE, THOSE NUMBERS HAVE BEEN REAL STEADY EVEN IN THE SUMMERTIME WHEN THEY TYPICALLY TAKE A FAIRLY SUBSTANTIAL DIP.
SO I'M NOT SURE WHAT AUGUST LOOKS LIKE JUST YET, BUT, UM, YOU KNOW, SO FAR IN THE SUMMER, IT'S BEEN REAL STRONG AND THEN TOTAL FUEL FLOW.
THIS IS KIND OF AMAZING AS YOU LOOK AT THE OTHER YEARS, THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS, YOU KNOW, BEFORE THIS AND FRANKLY, EVERY OTHER THE YEAR BEFORE THAT WE HAVE NEVER SEEN TOTAL FUEL.
FLOWAGE LIKE THIS IT'D BE FOR EXECUTIVE.
SO HATS OFF TO THE FOLKS WORKING UP THERE.
THAT MEANS ALIGNMENT ARE FRIENDLY, THEY'RE GETTING THE JOB DONE.
UM, AND I THINK THAT TRANSITION WITH THE PRICING ON THE ADD GAS HAS MADE A BIG DIFFERENCE.
UM, AND, UH, WE'VE, WE'VE ALSO, YOU KNOW, TRIED TO BE VERY CUSTOMER FRIENDLY UP THERE AND, AND ACT AS A CONCIERGE SERVICE, UH, TO MAKE SURE THAT FOLKS WHO ARE COMING IN FOR THE DAY OR OVERNIGHT, YOU KNOW, KNOW WHAT TO DO AND BE FOR IT, KNOW WHERE THE BEST RESTAURANTS ARE AND THINGS LIKE THAT.
SO THAT'S A SERVICE THAT WE NEED TO PROVIDE IS THAT'S EXPECTED.
AND, UM, I THINK THAT'S PAYING OFF WITH THE NUMBERS SHOWN THERE.
ANY QUESTIONS ON, ON THOSE? SO YOUR TOTAL FLIGHT OPERATIONS, HEY JOHN, THIS IS NICK A REAL QUICK QUESTION ON FUEL.
UH, I NOTICED THAT SELF SERVICE HAS BEEN OUT A LOT LATELY.
UH, WHEN IS THE NEW, UH, FUEL PROVIDER TAKEN OVER GREAT QUESTION.
AND I DIDN'T EVEN SET NICK UP WITH THAT ONE.
UM, THE NEW FUEL PROVIDER WHO IS CAMPBELL OIL IS ACTUALLY STARTING KIND OF, AS WE SPEAK, THEY'RE STARTING THIS WEEK, SO THAT TRANSITION IS HAPPENING.
SO YOU'LL START TO SEE THAT SHELL BRANDING COME OFF AND THE TIME BRANDING COME OFF AND THEN CAMPBELL IS GOING TO BE MOVING IN THERE.
SO THEY'LL WORK THROUGH THAT TRANSITION REALLY STARTING THIS WEEK AND THROUGH THE WEEKEND.
UM, AND THEN WE'LL BE, YOU KNOW, FULLY OVER TO CAMPBELL AND THEY'RE GOING TO, THEY'RE WORKING WITH PAUL RIGHT NOW AS WELL TO ASSESS THE SELF-SERVE AND WE'RE GOING TO MAKE SOME IMPROVEMENTS THERE CAUSE IT'S, IT'S OLD.
UM, THE CONNECTIONS AREN'T GOOD, THE SOFTWARE IS NOT GOOD.
UH, THE VISUAL DISPLAY ON THAT PUMP IS NOT GOOD.
SO WE'RE GOING TO GET ALL THAT UPGRADED.
SO WE HAVE, UH, A BETTER, UM, YOU KNOW, SELF-SERVE APPARATUS.
AND, UH, I WAS ASKED PROBABLY ABOUT THREE TIMES THIS WEEK ABOUT IT.
I SAID, JUST OUT OF CURIOSITY, WHAT'S THE TIMELINE, THOSE UPGRADES.
I MEAN, ARE WE TALKING INTO THE CALENDAR YEAR OR FARTHER OUT THAN THAT? UM, I DON'T KNOW YET.
I'M GOING TO LET THE PAUL AND CAMPBELL TALK ABOUT THAT SO WE CAN ASSESS EXACTLY WHAT NEEDS TO HAPPEN.
[00:15:01]
UM, AND THEN WE'LL TRY TO COME UP WITH A SCHEDULE FROM THERE.CAUSE YOU KNOW, I'LL TRY TO PREDICT SOMETHING NOW AND THEN THERE'LL BE ONE PART THAT TAKES THREE MONTHS TO GET OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT.
SO WE'RE JUST GOING TO WAIT AND SEE WHAT THEY SAY, BUT WE'LL KEEP YOU UP TO DATE ON THAT.
UM, THEN ANOTHER GOOD NEWS STORY THAT I, I DON'T THINK I PUT ON HERE.
I'M NOT SURE IF WE REPORTED THIS IN OUR STATS TO YOU OR NOT.
UM, BUT WE'RE TRACKING THE VISITOR NUMBERS.
AND I THINK I'VE MENTIONED THAT BEFORE, BUT SINCE WE APPLIED FOR THE AGE TAX MONEY, WE WANTED TO SHOW HOW MANY VISITORS ARE COMING IN THROUGH THE AIRPORT.
AND SO OUR ALIGNMENT ARE CHECKING THAT AND RECORDING THAT AND WE'RE WATCHING WHAT THOSE NUMBERS ARE.
BUT SINCE MARCH OF THIS YEAR, WE WELCOMED, UH, THROUGH THAT TERMINAL ABOUT 4,000 VISITORS, UM, WHICH IS PRETTY STRONG FOR A SMALL GENERAL AVIATION AIRPORT.
SO WE'RE GOING TO CONTINUE TO TRACK THOSE NUMBERS AND WE'LL USE THOSE NUMBERS IN OUR FUTURE APPLICATIONS FOR H TAX MONEY, BECAUSE I THINK WE'LL BE ABLE TO SHOW THAT WE ARE, UH, YOU KNOW, THE, THE GATEWAY INTO NORTHERN BEAVER COUNTY FOR ANYBODY WHO'S TRAVELING BY AIR.
UM, AND THAT NUMBER WAS NEVER REALLY KNOW.
SO I, I THINK IT'S PROBABLY BEEN, MAYBE IT'S HOVERING SOMEWHERE AROUND THAT NUMBER IN THE PAST, BUT WE DON'T KNOW FOR SURE.
SO WE FEEL LIKE IT'S A WORTHWHILE NUMBER TO TRACK, SO WE'LL CONTINUE TO DO THAT.
ANY OTHER QUESTIONS ON ARW? ALL RIGHT.
JUST A COUPLE OF NOTES HERE ON WHAT'S GOING ON.
UH, THIS SATURDAY, WE'RE GOING TO DO A COOKOUT AND IN RECOGNITION OF AVIATION WEEK.
UM, SO SATURDAY FROM I THINK, AND I MIGHT NEED PAUL OR TREY TO CORRECT ME, BUT I THINK SOMEWHERE FROM ABOUT 11 TO TWO-ISH, UH, WE'LL HAVE HOT DOGS AND HAMBURGERS OUT THERE AND, UM, ALL THE VARIOUS
SO FEEL FREE TO SHOW UP CAMPBELL OIL IS SPONSORING THAT FOR US, WHICH IS GREAT AS OUR NEW, UH, FUEL PROVIDER.
SO THAT'S KIND OF THEIR WELCOME ABOARD AND THEY'RE WELCOMING ALL OF OUR PILOTS AND NEIGHBORS ABOARD AS WELL.
UM, SO COME ON OVER TO THE TERMINAL AND WE'LL HAVE SOME, SOME FOOD FOR YOU THERE.
I THINK TREY'S GOING TO BE COOKING.
SO, UH, MAYBE I KNOW YOU JUST WENT BLANK ON ME, SO DON'T WORRY ABOUT PLENTY OF COOKS OUT THERE AND THEN WE'LL MAKE SURE EVERYBODY GETS SOME, SOME GOOD FOOD.
AND THEN, UH, JOHN, IT SAYS 10 IT'S 10:00 AM TO 3:00 PM.
ARW UH, PAUL IS PAUL ON? I THINK HE IS.
UM, I KNOW WE TALKED ABOUT SEVERAL MONTHS AGO, GIVE US AN UPDATE ON THE RESTRIPE AND OF THE, UM, RUNWAY AND, AND THE TIGHT TWO WAYS.
I KNOW THAT YOU HAD TALKED TO THE COMPANY WHEN THEY LEFT, THERE WAS SOME BLEED THROUGH GOING, GOING THROUGH CAUSE THEY DID IT SO QUICKLY AND THEY WERE GOING TO COME BACK AND RESTRIPE EVERYTHING.
CAN YOU GIVE US AN UPDATE ON THE STATUS OF THAT? HE HASN'T GIVEN ME A DATE OF WHEN HE COULD MAKE IT BACK IT UP HERE, BUT I WILL REACH OUT TO HIM AND ASK HIM WHEN HE PLANS ON COMING BACK TO DO THAT.
AND HE IS GOING TO DO ALL THE, ALL THE WHITE AND YELLOW, CORRECT.
HE SAID HE WOULD LOOK AT WHAT HE THOUGHT NEEDED TO BE DONE, BUT I'M GOING TO POINT OUT SOME OTHER THINGS TO HIM AND WE'LL GET IT, EVERYTHING THAT NEEDS TO BE DONE.
AND JOHN, UH, I MIGHT'VE MISSED IT.
DID YOU MENTION THE FLYING FROG 5K OR YOU WANT TO MENTION AN HOUR LATER? SHE'S ABOUT TO GET INTO THAT.
COME ON OCTOBER 9TH, WE'LL HAVE THE, UH, THE NEWLY NAMED FLYING FROG 5K, A LITTLE BIT OF ALLITERATION THERE FOR YOU.
UM, AND THAT THE SIGNUP FOR THAT IS AVAILABLE ON RUN SIGNUP.COM.
SO MAKE SURE YOU WRITE THAT DOWN.
UM, EVERYBODY ON THIS CALL IS ELIGIBLE TO RUN OR, OR WALK THAT, OR IF YOU WANT TO JUST COME AND HANG OUT AND, UH, AND HELP OUT, YOU CAN DO THAT AS WELL.
WELL, HOPEFULLY WE'LL HAVE A GOOD TURNOUT FROM THE BOARD AND SUPPORTED THAT EVENT.
AND LIKE I SAID, IT IS UP ON RON SIGNUP.COM.
THERE WILL BE T-SHIRTS AVAILABLE FOR THAT.
SO AS YOU SIGN UP AND PAY YOUR FEE, YOU'LL BE ASKED FOR A T-SHIRT SIZE AND ALL THAT.
AND, UH, SO YOU'LL HAVE A MO A MEMENTO FROM THAT EVENT, BUT IT'S PRETTY EXCITING.
YOU KNOW, THERE'S NO ROSTER, YOU'RE GOING TO GET A CHANCE TO DO A 5K ON THE RUNWAY.
AND WE'LL COUPLE THAT WITH AN OPEN HOUSE AS WELL, THAT WILL HAVE KIND OF AN A IN THE FRONT YARD OF THE AIRPORT, UM, SUSTAINED BY IF YOU KNOW, FOLKS WHO ARE INTERESTED IN MAYBE HAVING A BOOTH OUT THERE OR SOMETHING, WE'LL, WE'LL COORDINATE THAT AS WELL.
SO THAT'D BE A GOOD EVENT AND THE RACE I BELIEVE WE'RE DOING, UH, THE START IS AT EIGHT O'CLOCK IN THE MORNING.
HOPEFULLY ON OCTOBER 9TH, WE'LL HAVE SOME NICE, COOL BREEZES COMING DOWN THE RUNWAY AND WON'T BE QUITE SO HOT.
SO IF YOU HAVEN'T GOTTEN OFF THE, UH, THE COUCH AND YOUR, UM, COUCH TO 5K PROGRAM, I SUGGEST YOU LOOK THAT UP REAL QUICKLY AND, UH, AND GET IT MOVING ALONG BECAUSE WE EXPECT YOU OUT THERE.
ALL RIGHT, LET'S MOVE OVER TO HILTON THAT ANY QUESTIONS ON AIR W FOUR MOVE TO HILTON HEAD? I CAN'T SEE IT AS THAT.
JUST SPEAK UP IF YOU'VE GOT SOMETHING.
WHY DON'T WE TO HILTON HEAD LOOK AT THOSE
[00:20:01]
STATS.UM, YOU SEE THAT IN YOUR REPORT, BUT, UH, THAT'S 64, 42 OR FOR THE MONTH OF JULY, AND THEN PRIVATE JET AVIATION OR JET FUEL A HUNDRED NINE, FIVE OH NINE, AND THEN THE COMMERCIAL SIDE OVER 410,000 GALLONS, A COMMERCIAL FIELD.
SO AGAIN, HATS OFF TO BEN AND HIS GUYS.
UM, THEY'RE, THEY'RE KIND OF THE CLIENT FUEL PROVIDERS MAKING ALL THIS STUFF HAPPEN.
SO, UM, THEY ARE WORKING SOME, SOME GREAT LOGISTICS THIS SUMMER.
THE, THE FUEL SUPPLY HAS BEEN, UM, YOU KNOW, AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SUMMER, WE HAD SOME ISSUES WITH THAT.
UH, OF COURSE THERE WAS A PIPELINE SHUT DOWN EARLIER AND KIND OF A CONSTANT THREAT OF SHORTAGES.
YOU SEE SPOTTY REPORTS FROM AROUND THE COUNTRY.
SO THEN IT, HIS TEAM HAD DONE A GREAT JOB OF MANAGING THIS AND MAKING SURE THAT WE'VE GOT PLENTY OF FUEL FOR THE AIRLINES AND THEY COORDINATE EVERYTHING WITH THE AIRLINES.
UM, AND I, I NEVER NOTICED IT.
SO I KNOW THAT THE DID A GREAT JOB.
SO THANKS TO BEN AND FOR THE WHOLE TEAM OVER AT SIGNATURE.
CAUSE THEY'RE, THEY'RE DOING A REALLY PROFESSIONAL JOB FOR US.
THERE'S YOUR TOTAL FLOW OVER HALF A MILLION GALLONS IN A MONTH, WHICH IS AWESOME.
I'D LOVE TO SEE THAT A LOT OF ACTIVITY AT THE AIRPORT.
AND THEN IF YOU SAW THE, THE NUMBER OF OPERATIONS WERE OVER 4,000 OPERATIONS A MONTH IN HILTON HEAD STEADILY.
SO, UM, WE ARE, LET'S SEE, WE'RE OVER 30,000 OPERATIONS FOR THE YEAR ALREADY, WHICH IS MORE THAN WHAT WE TYPICALLY GET IN A FULL YEAR IN 12 MONTHS.
SO I THINK IT'S GETTING BUSY, OBVIOUSLY ON THE PRIVATE SIDE, PEOPLE ARE WOKEN UP AND THEY'RE, THEY'RE COMING INTO HILTON HEAD.
AND CERTAINLY ON THE COMMERCIAL SIDE TOO, YOU CAN SEE THAT IN THIS SLIDE WITH THE EMPLOYMENT'S A DEEP LAYMAN.
SO THAT'S PEOPLE GETTING ON THE AIRPLANES AND THE FOLKS GETTING OFF OF THE DEPLOYMENTS.
SO ANOTHER HUGE MONTH FOR US, UM, BIGGER THAN WHAT GENE WAS, JUNE WAS A RECORD BREAKING MONTH AND JULY WAS A RECORD BREAKING MONTH.
AND THAT WE HAD A RECORD BREAKING SATURDAY, TWO WEEKS AGO TO BE IN THE AUGUST STAT.
SO WE'RE 56,500 PEOPLE CAME IN AND OUT OF OUR BUILDING IN THE MONTH OF JULY.
ONCE AGAIN, JUST AS A MEASURING STICK, THAT'S ABOUT 2,500 MORE PEOPLE THAT WENT THROUGH THE ENTIRE YEAR OF 2017 IN THE SAME BUILDING, EXCEPT FOR THE SMALL MODULAR HOLDING ROOM.
SO WE'VE GOT A LOT OF FOOT TRAFFIC IN THERE.
SO IF YOU'RE NOT YET CONVINCED ABOUT THE TERMINAL, WE SHOULD BE ALL RIGHT.
UM, THIS IS WHERE I WANT TO CALL ON LESLIE.
UM, AND, AND EVEN STU IF YOU WANT STEVE, JUST GIVE US A LITTLE UPDATE ON THE AIRPORT AMBASSADOR PROGRAM.
AND, UH, MAYBE JUST THE TWO OR THREE BIG HIGHLIGHTS THAT YOU'RE SEEING.
CAUSE I WAS HONORED TO HAVE HIM THERE WITH ME.
IT LOOKED LIKE STEVE WAS DRIVING, SO I'LL MAKE SURE HE CAN, JOHN MAN.
YOU WANT ME TO GO AHEAD? YEAH, GO AHEAD.
WELL, UM, WE'RE KIND OF WINDING DOWN ACTUALLY.
SO YOU I'LL HAVE TO SAY THOSE, THOSE SLIDES TRISHA, YOU SHOWED OF THE LAST TWO WEEKS OR FAR LESS THAN WHAT WE, WHAT I SAW IN JULY AND, UM, YOU KNOW, THE NUMBERS HAVE DROPPED OFF AND I BELIEVE THAT'S JUST BECAUSE OF SCHOOL BACK IN SESSION.
AND SO THERE'S NOT AS MANY FAMILIES, BUT, UM, I THINK THE AIRPORT AMBASSADOR PROGRAM HAS PROVEN TO BE VERY EFFECTIVE.
UM, IT WAS GREAT TO HAVE STU COME WITH ME BECAUSE WHEN I FIRST STARTED DOING THIS, I THOUGHT THERE'S ONLY ROOM FOR ONE PERSON IN THIS AIRPORT, BUT THAT'S NOT THE CASE AT ALL.
TWO PEOPLE CAN WORK VERY EFFECTIVELY TOGETHER.
AND, UM, YOU KNOW, YOU WOULD, IT'S AMAZING HOW CAUGHT UP THE AIRPORT GETS OVER AT THE AIRLINE TICKET COUNTER SIDE.
AND WITH PREACHER RIGHT THERE, WE GET SOME REAL BOTTLENECKS THERE FROM PEOPLE WHO DON'T KNOW THEY'RE, EVEN THOUGH THEY'RE IN THE PRE-CHECK LINE.
SO, UM, IT'S BEEN REALLY HELPFUL TO HAVE HIM THERE WITH ME WORKING IN, UM, AS I SAID, WE'RE WINDING DOWN, I'M GOING TO DO THE NEXT TWO SATURDAYS.
AND THEN I'M GOING TO GIVE YOU A REPORT, UH, OVERALL OF HOW WE COULD IMPLEMENT AN AMBASSADOR PROGRAM DOWN THE ROAD AND ESPECIALLY DURING THE TERMINAL IMPROVEMENT.
I'M HAPPY TO HELP YOU FIND VOLUNTEERS AS WELL, BUT THEN IT'LL BE UP TO YOU TO DECIDE HOW YOU WANT TO USE IT.
SO THAT'S PRETTY MUCH IT GREAT COMMENTS FROM PASSENGERS.
I FOUND THAT WHEN I STARTED APPROACHING PASSENGERS, OTHER PASSENGERS IN LINE WOULD SEE ME, THEY WOULD LISTEN TO WHAT I WAS SAYING.
THEN THEY'D START COMING UP TO ME.
AND THAT JUST KIND OF BALLOONED AFTER BEING THERE FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS.
AND THE PASSENGERS REALLY DID APPRECIATE HAVING THAT GUIDANCE, ESPECIALLY BECAUSE OF THE SMALLNESS
[00:25:01]
OF OUR SPACE.WELL, THANK YOU, LESLIE, AGAIN FOR DOING THAT.
AND, UM, I DON'T KNOW, STU, ARE YOU ABLE TO CHIME IN, I'M NOT, I'M NOT HEARING STUPID.
I'M GOING TO SPEAK FOR STU CAUSE WE TALKED THE OTHER DAY AND HE MENTIONED THINGS ALONG THE LINES OF WHAT LESLIE SAID, AND IT SOUNDED LIKE HE REALLY ENJOYED BEING IN THERE AS WELL.
AND JUST INTERACTING WITH THE PASSENGERS, FINDING OUT WHERE THEY WERE FROM WHERE THEY WERE GOING.
UM, AND JUST REALLY, LIKE LESLIE SAID, THE MORE YOU TALK TO PEOPLE AND GIVE THEM A LITTLE BIT OF INFORMATION, THE LESS STRESSFUL THAT WEIGHT IS WHEN YOU'RE STANDING IN LINE KIND OF WONDERING WHAT'S GOING ON.
SO WE, I THINK WE'VE PROVEN THAT THE MORE INFORMATION YOU CAN GIVE PEOPLE IN A SITUATION LIKE THAT, THAT THE HAPPIER THEY'RE GOING TO BE, OR AT LEAST A LITTLE BIT LESS STRESSED, THEY'RE GOING TO BE WHILE THEY'RE TRAVELING.
SO HUGE, HUGE, THANKS TO LESLIE AND TO STU FOR DOING THIS, I REALLY LOOK FORWARD TO, YOU KNOW, A FORMAL PROGRAM, UH, GETTING INSTITUTED.
UH, WE DID GET SOME GOOD COMPLIMENTS ON WHAT YOU GUYS DID THERE IN THE TERMINAL.
AND I THINK YOU PROVED THAT IT'S VERY, VERY USEFUL, SO GOOD JOB.
THAT'S ALL I HAVE FROM OUR REPORT.
SO I WILL, UM, I CAN TURN THIS BACK OVER.
I THINK BACK OVER HERE, JOHN, BEFORE YOU GO WITH HOWARD, I GOT A COUPLE OF QUESTIONS FOR YOU ON HILTON HEAD.
I MEAN, WE ALL KNOW THE, UH, THE PARKING SITUATION.
I TOLD HIM THIS SUMMER AND PROBABLY START TO WIND DOWN AS THE SUMMER PASSES, BUT I THINK WE'VE GOT TO DO BETTER WITH SOME SIGNAGE AND WALKING.
PEOPLE ARE COMING TO THE AIRPORT.
MOSTLY ISLAND IS ACTUALLY NOT SO MUCH, NOT SO MANY VISITORS THEY'RE GETTING TO THE AIRPORT.
CAN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT TODAY, BUT A LITTLE MORE SIGNAGE IN THE NO PARKING AREAS MIGHT INCLUDE A LOT OF THE TICKETS THAT ARE BEING ISSUED TO SOME OF THE ILLEGAL PARKERS.
IT'S IRONIC THOUGH THAT IF YOU'RE GOING FOR SEVEN OR EIGHT DAYS, YOU CAN ACTUALLY PARK ILLEGALLY AROUND THE AIRPORT AND PAY LESS MONEY FOR YOUR TICKET THAN YOU DO FOR THE PARKING IN THE PARKING SPOTS AT THE AIRPORT.
I'M NOT SUGGESTING WE RAISE THE FINES.
I'M JUST SUGGESTING WE ATTEMPT TO GET A LITTLE MORE PR OUT, ESPECIALLY TO OUR ISLAND PEOPLE ABOUT THE FACT THAT THEY SHOULD BE TAKING A CAB DURING THE SUMMERTIME OR UBER OR LYFT OR WHATEVER, OR THE TRANS FRIENDS, NEIGHBORS, SO THAT WE CAN ELIMINATE THE PARKING TICKETS.
IT'S NOT A GREAT FEELING TO COME BACK AFTER BEING GONE FOR SEVEN DAYS AND FINDING A CITATION ON YOUR CAR AND NOT REALIZING THE FACT THAT YOU'RE GETTING AWAY WITH SAVING SOME MONEY.
SO I'M NOT SURE WHAT CAN BE DONE.
WE KNOW THE PARKING SITUATION WILL EXIST FOR A LITTLE WHILE LONGER, A LITTLE MORE SIGNAGE MIGHT CONVINCE PEOPLE TO GET A RIDE TO THE AIRPORT INSTEAD OF PARKING THERE.
UM, DO WE HAVE ANY IDEA WHEN THE EXPANDED PARKING FACILITIES MIGHT BE AVAILABLE AS WE GO FORWARD INTO 2022, KNOWING THAT WE KNOW THE TERMINAL WON'T BE READY, BUT WE HAVE ADDITIONAL PARKING PLAN.
WHEN WILL THAT BE AVAILABLE OR A GUESSTIMATE OF WHEN THAT MIGHT BE AVAILABLE, JOHN, UH, THE PARKING WILL COME ONLINE WITH THE TERMINAL.
SO IF WE CONTINUE TO, YOU KNOW, TO WAIT UNTIL WE CAN BID AND CONSTRUCT THE TERMINAL, THE PARKING WE'LL WAIT AS WELL.
AND THE SIGNAGE OPPORTUNITY TO THE PR STUFF, I THINK PRETTY IMPORTANT.
WE DON'T WANT TO, YOU KNOW, WE WANT TO BE ON THE GOOD SIDE OF PEOPLE, YOU KNOW, THE LESLIE'S PROGRAM AND THE AMBASSADOR PROGRAM HAS DONE A TREMENDOUS JOB IN DOING THAT.
UH, BUT WE DON'T WANT TO BE GIVING OUT TICKETS TO IRELAND AS WE'RE LEAVING THE AIRPORT OR LEAVING THE ISLAND FOR A FEW DAYS.
SO WHATEVER YOU CAN WORK OUT WOULD BE GREAT.
AND W WE'LL LOOK INTO THAT AND I CAN TELL YOU THAT, UM, MAYBE THIS HAPPENS EVERYWHERE, BUT IT SEEMS LIKE ALMOST THE MORE SIGNAGE YOU PUT UP, THE LESS PEOPLE ARE GOING TO READ IT.
UM, THERE'S STILL PEOPLE WHO PARK IN THE PAID PARKING AND DON'T PAY FOR THE PARKING, EVEN THOUGH YOU HAVE TO PHYSICALLY MOVE AROUND THE SIGNS THAT REMIND YOU TO PAY FOR PARKING AS YOU WALK INTO THE TERMINAL.
SO, UM, WE'LL TAKE A LOOK AT THAT.
TH THERE'S ONLY SO MUCH YOU CAN DO AND MAYBE WE'LL PUT SOMETHING OR ON THE WEBSITE.
UM, BUT I, I CAN TELL YOU JUST FROM WATCHING IT, PEOPLE DON'T READ SIGNS.
SO, YOU KNOW, THERE'S, THERE'S, THERE'S A LITTLE BIT OF A, YOU KNOW, PRETTY MUCH EVERYBODY UNDERSTANDS THAT PARKING IN THE LAWN IS NOT, YOU KNOW, UH, SPONSORED PARKING SPOT OR AN ENDORSED PARKING SPOT.
SO, UM, IF WE, IF WE NEED TO PUT SOME MORE SIGNAGE UP IN THERE, BUT IT'S PROBABLY JUST GETTING A, GETTING RUN OVER BY THE FIRST ISLAND OR LOOKING FOR A PARKING SPOT.
UM, JOHN, SOME OF THE, OH, GO AHEAD, STU.
I FINALLY FINALLY GOT BACK CONNECTED.
IT WAS KIND OF FUN WORKING WITH LESLIE.
SHE DID ALL THE WORK AND, YOU KNOW, REACH OUT TO HER AND I BET MAYBE DO 2%.
THAT'D BE A LOT, BUT YEAH, I TOLD
[00:30:01]
JOHNNY, YOU SHOULD BE CAREFUL ABOUT LETTING ME WANDER AROUND THE AIRPORT.CAUSE I'M AN OLD INDUSTRIAL ENGINEER AND I'LL HAVE A BUNCH OF DUMB QUESTIONS FOR HIM, BUT, UH, I KIND OF ENJOYED IT AND ACTUALLY IT WAS, IT WAS GOOD.
I DID LEARN SOME THINGS AND PROBABLY GAINED A FEW INSIGHTS.
UM, I'M GOING TO HAVE TO DROP OFF.
I'VE GOT ANOTHER MEETING I'M GOING TO, BUT, UH, ANYWAY, I'LL CATCH UP WITH JOHN ON THE REST OF THE MEETING.
THANK YOU, JOHN, IF I CAN FOLLOW UP TO HOWARD'S COMMENT.
UM, A COUPLE OF SEVERAL PASSENGERS ASKED ME ABOUT THE PARKING AND ONE OF THE ISSUES I THINK IS OUT THERE IS THE RECEIPT.
AND THEN WHEN THAT HAPPENS, THE PASSENGERS ARE CONCERNED THAT THEY'RE GOING TO GET TICKETED AND THEIR PARKING DIDN'T TAKE, EVEN THOUGH THEY PUT ALL THE INFORMATION IN.
AND I EXPLAINED TO THEM THAT IT'S PRETTY SEAMLESS.
THEY SAID, WELL, NO, THEY SAID, HOW ARE WE GOING TO GET OUT OF HERE? WE DON'T HAVE A RECEIPT.
I SAID, WELL, THERE'S NO ONE TO STOP YOU FROM LEAVING AND JUST CHECK YOUR, UM, WEB, CHECK YOUR CREDIT CARD AND SEE IF IT WAS CHARGED.
AND IF IT WAS CHARGED, THAT MEANS YOU, YOU PAID YOUR PARKING.
AND I THINK IT MUST, IS IT CHARGED IMMEDIATELY, MUST BE CHARGED PRETTY MUCH RIGHT AWAY.
SO I THINK THAT'S ONE OF THE ISSUES IS THAT THE PASSENGERS SEEM TO HAVE IS NOT HAVING THAT RECEIPT IN HAND.
BUT ASIDE FROM THAT, THE PARKING SEEMS TO BE WORKING.
YOU WANT ME TO TAKE OVER YOU? GO AHEAD.
SO THANK YOU, JOHN, UH, UNFINISHED BUSINESS.
DO WE HAVE ANY UNFINISHED BUSINESS OUT THERE THAT THEY MIGHT NEED TO DISCUSS OR BRING UP? THERE'S NONE LISTED.
SO I'M GOING TO ASSUME THERE IS NONE.
[9. NEW BUSINESS – JON REMBOLD]
BUSINESS OVER JOHN SOJOURN MARKETING CAMPAIGN.I BELIEVE WE TALKED ABOUT THIS LAST WEEK.
I DIDN'T HAVE ANYTHING ATTACHED TO MY, UH, EMAIL ABOUT THIS.
I'M NOT SURE IF YOU'RE MY HOSTED, BUT JOHN GRAY, DO YOU HAVE A FOUR FOR THE SOJOURN MARKETING CAMPAIGN? YEAH, THIS IS JUST AN INFORMATIONAL ONE.
WE, WE DID A CAMPAIGN WITH SOJERN LAST YEAR AS WELL.
UM, IT'S, IT'S A, AN EMAIL OR NOT AN EMAIL.
YOU KNOW, WEB-BASED MARKETING CAMPAIGN THAT WE DO IS TARGETED MARKETING THAT WE DO THAT LOOKS ONLY FOR FOLKS WHO ARE ACTIVELY SEARCHING FOR TRAVEL OR DESTINATIONS, FLIGHTS, HOTELS, THINGS LIKE THAT.
SO IF YOU START LOOKING AT THE FLIGHT SCHEDULE FOR HILTON HEAD, YOU'LL START SEEING OUR LOGO POP UP IN FRONT OF YOU.
UM, AND SO THIS IS JUST THAT CAMPAIGN AND WE'VE GOT A BROKEN UP INTO SOME, SOME INBOUND MARKETING, WHICH IS THE FOLKS WHO ARE, WE'RE TRYING TO BRING TO THE ISLAND THROUGH THE AIRPORT AND THEN OUTBOUND AS WELL, WHERE WE, UH, WE SERVE UP ADS TO THE LOCAL SO THAT THEY UNDERSTAND THE VARIETY OF FLIGHTS THAT THEY OPTIONS THAT THEY HAVE THROUGH THIS AIRPORT.
SO THAT'S JUST AN UPDATE TO LET YOU KNOW THAT MARKETING EFFORT KICKED OFF THIS SUMMER.
AND I THINK IT ROLLS FOR ABOUT THREE OR FOUR MONTHS.
SO THAT'S, THAT'S REALLY JUST AN INFORMATIONAL ITEM FOR YOU.
SO, UH, NO ACTION, NO ACTION ITEMS LISTED.
[10. CHAIRMAN UPDATE]
REPORTS.I'M GOING TO A LOT OF THESE WE'VE I, I CHARTED COVERED, UM, THROUGH THE PREVIOUS, UH, DIRECTOR'S REPORT, BUT WE'LL START WITH THE FINANCE COMMITTEE.
HOWARD, DO YOU GET ANY UPDATES ON THE FINANCE COMMITTEE? NO REPORTS THIS MONTH.
COMMUNICATIONS IN MARKETING, JIM BUCKLEY IS JIM ON? I DON'T THINK SO.
BRIAN OR LESLIE WOULD Y'ALL Y'ALL ARE ON THAT.
ANY UPDATES WITH COMMUNICATION TO MARKETING? NO UPDATES SINCE THE LAST MEETING, UH, LESLIE'S ALREADY DISCUSSED THE PASSENGER SERVICE COMMITTEE.
THANK YOU, LESLIE, FOR YOUR WORK WITH THAT.
UM, ARW FACILITIES USE CHRIS BUTLER, THE CHAIR.
CHRIS, HAVE YOU GOT ANYTHING TO ADD AS FAR AS THE RENOVATIONS AND THE UPGRADE TO THE FPO? I BELIEVE THE RENOVATIONS WERE STARTING AT THIS NOT THIS WEEK.
ISN'T IT, JOHN, UH, FOR THE RENOVATIONS AND THEY ARE ALSO, UH, WE'RE STILL MOVING FORWARD, UH, WITH THE LEASE SOME GROUND LEASES, UH, ON THAT THERE'S, HAVEN'T MOVED AS FAST AS WE HAD HOPED.
UM, BUT I'VE, I'VE TALKED AND, UH, I'VE SPOKEN TO A COUPLE OF THE, UH, GENTLEMEN THAT ARE, THAT ARE COMING IN ON THOSE LEASES.
UH, AND I THINK THEY'RE GETTING TO THE, TO THE END NUMBERS TO GET TO, I, I THINK, UH, DEAL WITH THIS COVID THING.
IT SCARED EVERYBODY WITH WHAT, UH, THE INFLATION THAT ALLEGEDLY DOESN'T EXIST REALLY DOES EXIST, ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT STEEL.
UM, SO SOME PRICING HAS GONE UP AND I THINK THAT'S, THAT'S WHAT THEY'RE TRYING TO DO NOW IS GET, GET DOWN TO THE, GET DOWN TO REAL NUMBERS.
UM, I KNOW WE HAD TWO LARGE BOX LEASES AND JOHN, YOU MIGHT BE ABLE TO CHIRP IN, OR PAUL MIGHT BE ABLE TO,
[00:35:01]
CAUSE I KNOW WE, WE WERE REALLY HOT WITH LISA'S BEGINNING OF THE YEAR.SO, UM, DO WE FEEL LIKE WE WILL HAVE SOME LEADS TO SIGN BY THE END OF THE YEAR ON SOME PRIVATE HANGARS GOING IN JOHN, CHRIS, BASED ON WHAT I TALKED TO THE GUY, I THINK, I THINK YOU'RE GOING TO SEE THAT.
I THINK YOU'RE GOING TO SEE SOME STUFF BY THE END OF THE YEAR, UM, ON THAT, UH, YOU KNOW, IT'S, THEY'RE, THEY'RE GETTING SOME FINAL NUMBERS TOGETHER ON, ON, ON ALL OF IT TO FIGURE THAT ALL OUT.
AND I THINK THAT THAT'S ALL COMING TOGETHER RIGHT NOW.
I THINK ONE LAST THING THEY HAVE TO DO, UM, JUST TO FINISH SOME THINGS OFF, TO GET THE CORE SAMPLES ON THE, ON THE, UM, ON THE DIRT TO SEE WHAT, SEE WHAT THE COMPACTION RATES GOING TO BE, YOU'RE GOING TO NEED.
AND THEN WE HAVE THE HILTON HEAD ISLAND, UH, GENERAL AVIATION AND PREMIER COMMITTEE THAT WAS PRETTY MUCH COVERED WITH THE NEW TERMINAL.
THERE'S YOUR IMPROVEMENTS, BUT, UH, HOWARD, UH, BRIAN DO EITHER ONE OF Y'ALL WANT TO SPEAK ON THAT.
CAN I THINK JOHN PRETTY MUCH COVERED EVERYTHING.
IT NEEDS TO BE COVERED ON HIM ON THE TERMINAL.
I THINK WE'RE ALL ANXIOUS TO SEE IT REALLY GET GOING.
UH, AND JOHN, DO YOU HAVE A GUESSTIMATE ON START OF CONSTRUCTION YET? OR IT'S STILL TOO MUCH TOO MANY VARIABLES IN BETWEEN.
YEAH, WE DON'T HAVE AN ESTIMATE NOW I HAVE A BEST CASE.
WE'RE GOING TO HOLD ON THAT UNTIL WE GET ALL THE FUNDING FIXED.
HOW MUCH ARE WE SHORT? DO YOU KNOW MORE THAN YOU GOT? YEAH, I THINK, WELL, WE CAN TALK, WE DO HAVE NAMING OPPORTUNITIES AVAILABLE.
CAN I HAVE IT IN LIGHTS AND NEON LIGHTS? YEAH.
I, DEPENDING ON THE DOLLAR AMOUNT, WE'LL DO WHATEVER YOU NEED.
OH NO, I'LL TAKE THAT UNDER ADVICE AND THANK YOU.
ONE THING I'M GOING TO DO IS, IS, AND HOWARD SAID IT LAST MINUTE, HOWARD, DO AN EXTRA JOB, KEEPING THE COMMITTEES ACTIVE AND MOVE IT WITH GREAT IDEAS.
AND, AND I HAVE NOT DONE NEARLY AS WELL AS HOWARD HAS DONE.
SO ALL OF YOU CHAIRMAN COMMITTEES ALMOST STARTED EMAILING YOU THIS NEXT COUPLE OF WEEKS TO TRY TO GET SOME MOMENTUM GOING AGAIN WITH THE COMMITTEE, BECAUSE I THINK THAT WAS A GREAT THING THAT HOWARD INITIATED.
AND I THINK WE ALL GOT REAL POSITIVE RESULTS FROM THE COMMITTEE.
SO I HAVE NOT BEEN, UH, I HAVE NOT CRACKED THE WHIP LIKE HOWARD HAS, BUT I WILL, I WILL START DOING THAT.
AND TREY, IF I COULD JUST OFFER A SUGGESTION, WE HAVE A COUPLE OF NEW MEMBERS WHO JOINED LATE LAST YEAR, MAY NOT HAVE A COMMITTEE ASSIGNMENT YET.
SO YOU MAY, MAY LOOK DOWN THAT LIST OF COMMITTEES AND SEE WHO FITS, WHERE, OR, OR OFFER OPPORTUNITIES FOR THEM TO PARTICIPATE SOMEWHERE.
I MADE A NOTE I'LL, I'LL EMAIL THEM AND SEE WHAT AREA THEY, UH, THEY'D BE INTERESTED IN, IN WHAT BOYS WOULD HAVE.
[11. CITIZEN COMMENT (Every member of the public who is recognized to speak shall limit comments to three minutes)]
UH, OPEN IT BEFORE TO CITIZEN COMMENTS AND I'VE REALLY NEVER UNDERSTOOD.WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE IN A PUBLIC COMMENT AND A CITIZEN COMMENT.
I DON'T KNOW WHETHER I'M CITIZEN OR PUBLIC CITIZEN GLENN, BUT THEN YOU HAVE THE FLOOR PUBLIC.
UH, FIRST I WOULD ASK HOW MANY PARKING SPACES ARE ALLOCATED TO AUTOMOBILE RENTAL COMPANIES ON THE HILTON HEAD PROPERTY.
UH, WE'VE GOT ABOUT A HUNDRED THAT ARE SET UP FOR THE RENTAL CARS.
ISN'T THAT AN OPPORTUNITY TO PUSH THOSE OFF SITE AND MAKE SOME OF THOSE SPACES AVAILABLE FOR PUBLIC PARKING.
UM, I WOULD ASK YOU TO LOOK AT THAT.
UM, AND THEN I WANT TO EXTEND A SPECIAL APPRECIATION TO LESLIE AND SUE PRIMARILY TO LESLIE FOR A FABULOUS JOB AS AMBASSADOR, UH, AT THE HILTON HEAD AIRPORT AS A VERY VALUABLE SERVICE, PROVIDING EXTRA SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY.
THIS IS, UH, BEN IN SIGNATURE.
I JUST, JUST TO GO ON WITH JOHN MENTIONED EARLIER WITH OUR FUEL SITUATION, I WAS JUST GONNA GIVE A SHOUT OUT TO MY DUTY MANAGER CHIP.
HE'S BEEN THE ONE WHO'S BEEN LEADING THAT WHOLE CHARGE AND JOHN KIND OF DOWNPLAYED IT A LITTLE BIT AT TIMES IT'S BEEN AN ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE.
SO I JUST WANT TO GIVE THAT SHOUT OUT TO HIM AND ANY FUEL ISSUES, YOU KNOW, GOING ON HERE.
IT'S JUST, IT'S ABOVE US, BUT WE'RE DOING THE BEST WE CAN TO MAINTAIN THAT.
SO JUST WANTED TO MAKE THAT NOTE.
AND THEN WITH ALL THAT, UM, JET FUEL YOURSELF, MAYBE WE CAN BRING THOSE APP GASES PRICES DOWN JUST A LITTLE BIT, MAYBE FOR US AS PRIVATE GUYS.
UM, NO OTHER CITIZEN COMMENTS, THEN I'LL ASK FOR A MOTION TO ADJOURN THE MEETING.
WHEN IS OUR NEXT MEETING? OH, HERE WE GO.
THE NEXT MEETING WILL BE HELD ON.
[00:40:01]
GO AHEAD.WHO HAD THE SECOND IS HOWARD? I THINK HOWARD.
AND SO THE MEETING IS OFFICIALLY ADJOURN.
I'LL MAKE ONE QUICK ANNOUNCEMENT BEFORE WE HANG UP.
THE NEXT MEETING WILL BE HELD ON THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 16TH.
AGAIN, THAT'S THE THIRD THURSDAY OF THE MONTH.
UM, UH, SEPTEMBER 16TH, 2021 AT 1:30 PM.
AND IF YOU GOT THE LINK, YOU CAN GO ONTO THE LINK TO GET THE INFORMATION FOR THAT MEETING.
ALL THAT BEING SAID, THE MEETING IS ADJOURNED.
