[00:00:01] CLOSED CAPTIONING PROVIDED BY BEAVER COUNTY. WELL, GOOD EVENING AND WELCOME TO ANOTHER EDITION OF COASTLINE. I'M SCOTT GROOMS SITTING IN FOR RICK FORSCHER AND TODAY WE'RE TALKING RECYCLING CENTERS WHERE WE'RE TALKING TRASH. ALL RIGHT. ALL RIGHT. SO, UM, IT'S ANGEL MARSON MARSON KOSKI MARSTON. KOSKY OKAY. I GOT IT. RIGHT. AND SHE IS THE BUSINESS MANAGER FOR SOLID WASTE AND RECYCLING. THANKS FOR JOINING US TODAY. THANK YOU FOR HAVING ME. WELL, I TELL YOU, THERE'S A LOT OF DISCUSSION RIGHT NOW ABOUT CONVENIENCE CENTERS STICKERS. AND WE'RE GOING TO TRY TO GO THROUGH A LOT OF THAT TODAY. FIRST OF ALL, TELL US WHAT CHANGES ARE COMING UP IN THE NEXT FEW WEEKS. SO THE BIGGEST CHANGE YOU'RE GOING TO NOTICE IS THE DECAL SYSTEM. UM, WE ARE GOING TO BE IMPLEMENTING THIS STARTING IN JANUARY. AND SO STARTING MID OCTOBER, THOUGH, YOU WILL START SEEING THOSE APPLICATIONS AVAILABLE AT THE CONVENIENCE CENTERS. THERE'S GOING TO BE AN ONLINE REGISTRATION AS WELL. UM, SO YOU CAN GO AHEAD AND START GETTING THEM NOW, AS SOON AS THOSE FORMS GO OUT, UM, BUT YOU WON'T NEED THEM UNTIL JANUARY NOW, WHAT WILL HAPPEN AS OF JANUARY ONE? SO STARTING JANUARY ONE, IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THAT DECAL, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO GET INTO THE CONVENIENCE CENTER. UM, YOU MUST HAVE THAT DECAL ON YOUR CAR OR ON YOUR PHONE, OR YOU MUST HAVE A DECAL OF SOME SORT IN ORDER TO GET IN. WHEN SAY I'VE GOT MY DECAL AND I DRIVE UP TO THE CONVENIENCE CENTER. ARE THEY GOING TO SCAN ME IN? WILL THERE BE A GATE? HOW'S HOW'S THAT? SO WHEN YOU PULL UP, YOU'RE GOING TO SEE THE ATTENDANCE THERE AND THEY'RE GOING TO HAVE A LITTLE SCANNER. THEY'RE JUST GOING TO SCAN IT AND IT'S GOING TO EITHER GIVE THEM GREEN LIGHT, RED LIGHT. GOOD TO GO. AND IF YOU'RE GREEN, GOOD TO GO, JUST GO ON IN AND DO LIKE NORMAL. UM, IF IT'S RED, THEY'RE GOING TO TURN YOU AROUND AND SEND YOU BACK OUT. ALL RIGHT. AND WILL I BE ABLE TO GO IN ANYTIME I WANT OR HOW, HOW, HOW MANY TIMES A WEEK CAN I GO IN? SO YOU'LL BE ABLE TO GO IN TWO TIMES PER WEEK. UM, IT DOESN'T MATTER IF YOU HAVE A PAPER COPY OF IT AND ELECTRONIC COPY OF THE DECAL, OR IF YOU HAVE IT ON THE BC CONNECT APP, IT ALL LINKS BACK TO YOUR HOME ADDRESS. AND SO NO MATTER WHICH ONE YOU USE, IT'LL STILL ONLY BE TWO TIMES PER, AND THAT'S NOT TWO TIMES PER PERSON. THAT'S TWO TIMES FOR PROPERTY. SO MY WIFE, MY, MY KID AND MYSELF COULD NOT GO IN SIX TIMES. IT'S THAT HOUSE, CORRECT? THAT HOUSE, THAT PHYSICAL ADDRESS TWICE A WEEK WILL ANYTHING CHANGE IS WHAT YOU CAN TAKE TO TAKE TO THE CENTERS AND EVERYTHING WILL BE THE SAME. UM, THE ONLY THING THAT IS CHANGING IS WHO CAN GO INTO THE CENTER. WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT IT'S JUST BE FOR COUNTY, CAN USE THE BUFORD COUNTY CONVENIENT CENTERS. NOW DESCRIBE THE DECALS AGAIN THERE I, I SAW WE'VE ACTUALLY GOT A COPY OF, WE CAN PUT UP ON THE SCREEN AND IT'S GOT A BARCODE ON IT. NOW, DO I ONLY GET ONE DECAL, PHYSICAL DECAL, ONE PHYSICAL DECAL? YOU KNOW, WHAT ELSE COULD I GET IF I WANTED TO? SO YOU CAN GET THAT DECAL. YOU CAN ALSO GET AN ELECTRONIC SCAN OF THAT DE COUNT, OR YOU CAN GO TO BC CONNECT AND GET THE DECAL THAT WAY. AND I BELIEVE THAT WAY WILL BE A QR CODE. UM, OR YOU CAN HAVE ALL THREE, IF YOU WOULD LIKE, BUT IT STILL COMES BACK TO TWO VISITS PER WEEK, PER WEEK. YEAH. SO YOU BETTER CARRY ALL OF THAT TRASH TWICE A WEEK. OH YES. THERE YOU GO. COOL. NOW, UM, I KNOW WE HAD TALKED, WE TALKED A LITTLE BIT BEFORE STARTED. THERE MIGHT BE SOME CHANGES IN THE RECYCLING SIDE OF THAT. YES. UM, SO WE DO KNOW THAT WE HAVE PEOPLE WHO BRING RECYCLING THAT MAY BE A BUFORD COUNTY RESIDENT, BUT THEY LIVE IN AN APARTMENT COMPLEX, A COMMERCIAL BUSINESS. AND SO WE KNOW THAT THIS MAY HINDER THEM BEING ABLE TO GET TO RECYCLING. SO WE ARE LOOKING AT IDEAS AND WORKING ON WAYS TO HAVE RECYCLING NORTH OF THE BROAD AND SOUTH OF THE ABROAD. THAT WAY, EVEN THOUGH THEY WON'T BE ABLE TO GET INTO THE GOOD THING AT SINNERS, BECAUSE THEIR APARTMENT COMPLEX DOES HAVE TRASH DISPOSAL ON SITE, THEY WILL BE ABLE TO GET INTO RECYCLING BECAUSE WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT PEOPLE PLEASE DON'T START RECYCLING. GOTCHA. NOW, AND THAT TOUCHES ON SOMETHING. IF YOU HAVE AN APARTMENT, THEN YOU WON'T GET A STICKER. YOU WON'T BE SO COMMERCIAL. HOW IT WORKS IS, UM, BECAUSE APARTMENT COMPLEXES ARE CONSIDERED COMMERCIAL. THEY ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR TRASH DISPOSAL FOR ALL OF THEIR RESIDENTS, WHICH IS WHY THEY NORMALLY HAVE A TRASH DISPOSAL ON SITE. UM, SO THAT IS WHY THEY WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO COME IN. GOTCHA. OKAY. WELL THAT EXPLAINS IT. THAT'S SOMETHING I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW RIGHT THERE. ALL RIGHT. SO WE'RE TALKING AGAIN, WE TALKED ABOUT THE RECYCLED, [00:05:01] A LOT OF CHANGES GOING ON. SO, UM, WE ALSO, WHY ARE, WHY ARE WE DOING THIS? UM, WELL, LAST YEAR, UM, WE WERE CONCERNED WITH CERN, THOSE OPERATING COST, THE TAXPAYERS WAS INCREASING DUE TO POPULATION AND ABUSE OF THE CONVENIENCE CENTERS. AND SO WE WANTED TO KNOW WHY, WHY WERE THESE COSTS GOING UP EVERY YEAR? AND SO WE HAD A CONSULTANT COME IN AND DO A REPORT THAT REPORT WAS RELEASED IN NOVEMBER OF LAST YEAR. AND IT OUTLINED SEVERAL DIFFERENT THINGS. AND SO THIS IS THE RESULT, YOU KNOW, WE HAVE OUT OF COUNTY RESIDENTS, UM, WE HAVE COMMERCIAL BUSINESSES THAT ARE USING OUR CONVENIENCE CENTERS AND HINTS, THE COST IS GOING UP. AND SO WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE CAN DO ALL THAT WE CAN FOR OUR BUFORD COUNTY RESIDENTS. AND SO THESE ARE SOME OF THE CHANGES THAT YOU'RE SLOWLY STARTING TO SEE, EVEN WITH THE TIMES THAT ARE, THAT HAVE CHANGED AT THE BEGINNING, OCTOBER, ALL OF THIS CAN BE LINKED BACK TO THAT REPORT. SO, I MEAN, YOU WOULD THINK, YOU KNOW, A COUPLE OF PEOPLE THINK, WELL, YOU KNOW, ONE OR TWO PIECES OF TRASH, ISN'T GOING TO MATTER IF I DROP IT INTO BEAVER COUNTY, BUT THEY'VE GOT TO REALIZE THERE'S THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE THAT THEORETICALLY COULD BE USING YOUR TAX DOLLARS TO DISPOSE OF SOMEBODY ELSE'S TRASH FROM ANOTHER. YEAH, NO, IT'S VERY TRUE. YOU KNOW, WE HAVE A THRIVING TOURISM BUSINESS HERE. WE HAVE A LOT OF PEOPLE COMING IN AND OUT OF OUR COUNTY AND RIGHT NOW IT COULD BE VERY EASY FOR THEM TO STOP OFF AT THE CONVENIENCE CENTER AND DROP WHAT THEY HAVE. AND, YOU KNOW, ONE PERSON, TWO PEOPLE, IT ADDS UP SLOWLY AND SLOWLY AND OUR TAX PAYERS ARE PAYING FOR THAT. AND THE TRASH IS PAID FOR BY THE TON. IS THAT HOW IT'S DONE? YES. SO THEY PICK IT UP AND THEY TAKE IT TO WHEREVER IT'S GOING AND THEN THEY WEIGH THE TRUCK AND THEN THEY SEND YOU FOR COUNTY A BILL. CORRECT. SO THE MORE TRASH THE HEAVIER IT IS. YEAH. YEAH. NOW WE JUST TALK BRIEFLY TOUCHED ON THAT. WE HAVE REDUCED SOME HOURS AND MOVE SOME THINGS AROUND AND WE'RE GOING TO HAVE A COUPLE OF CONVENIENCE CENTERS CLOSING. IS THAT CORRECT? SO HOW, HOW IS ALL THAT GOING TO WORK? SO AGAIN, STARTING JANUARY 1ST, UM, GATE AND PRITCHARD VEIL, WE'LL BOTH BE CLOSING. UM, AGAIN, THIS COMES BACK TO THAT REPORT. UM, THERE WERE SOME CHANGES THAT NEED TO BE MADE SOME UPGRADES, SOME STORM WATER FIXES THAT HAVE TO BE DONE. AND WITH THESE, WITH THESE TWO SIDES, IT JUST WASN'T POSSIBLE. IT WOULD COST SO MUCH TO GET IT DONE. THAT FEASIBLY IT COULDN'T BE DONE. YEAH. THE NEWER CONVENIENCE CENTERS ARE TOTALLY DIFFERENT THAN THE OLD DRIVE UP AND GO AROUND THE LITTLE HOOP. THE NEW ONES ARE MASSIVE. YES, YES. IN THE FEW CHANGES THAT THEY NEED, IT'S NOT GOING TO BE AS MUCH BECAUSE AT THE TIME THEY WERE, THEY WERE BUILT UP TO CODE AND GOOD TO GO. SO THEY ONLY HAVE SMALL CHANGES HERE OR THERE THAT NEEDS TO BE DONE. GOTCHA. NOW LET THE BIG ONES, I KNOW I'M THE ONE OUT BY PUBLIC WORKS NORTH AND THE ONE DOWN IN, THEY HAVE THE WHITE GOODS THERE. NONE OF THAT'S GOING TO CHANGE. IT'S ALL GONNA STAY RIGHT THERE. NOW, IF I'M DROPPING OFF A REFRIGERATOR THAT COUNCIL'S A TRIP, THE TRIP DOES COUNT AS A TRIP. SO YOU MIGHT WANT TO BRING A LOT OF STUFF WITH THAT. YES. IF YOU GOING THAT ONE TIME, GO AHEAD AND TAKE WHAT YOU HAVE WHILE YOU'RE GOING. OKAY. LET'S GO BACK TO THE HOURS. NOW, WHAT WHAT'S CHANGING IN THE, UM, THE CENTER HOURS. SO THE CENTER HOURS ARE ACTUALLY NOW GOING TO BE UNTIL 6:00 PM. ALL OF THEM HAVEN'T ARE NOW CLOSING AT THAT TIME INSTEAD OF THE SEVEN O'CLOCK. UM, AGAIN, THIS CHANGE GOES BACK TO THAT REPORT. UM, THE REPORT WAS SHOWING THAT ONLY 5% OF THE POPULATION WAS ACTUALLY COMING IN WITH, WITHIN THAT LAST HOUR. AND SO BASED ON THAT, IT WAS, IT SEEMED LIKE A GOOD IDEA TO GO AHEAD AND CLOSE AT SIX, YOU KNOW, JORDY, YOUR POPULATION HAS ALREADY COME AT THAT TIME. AND ALSO YOU HAVE TO THINK ABOUT THE ATTENDANT THAT'S OUT THERE, GET STAR OCCUR. IS IT SAFE? A LOT OF THINGS WENT INTO THAT, THAT CHOICE. BUT, UM, BUT YEAH, THE REPORT DEFINITELY HAD A PLAY IN THAT WHERE YOU TOUCHED THE ATTENDANCE, THEY'VE GOT A TOUGH JOB. THEY DO, THEY REALLY DO. AND EVERYTHING THAT THEY DO IS FOR A REASON, YOU KNOW, LIKE BOXES, CAN YOU GO INTO THAT A LITTLE BIT? WHY THEY TO EVERYBODY'S GOT TO SEPARATE THIS AND THAT AND YEAH. YEAH. SO IT'S VERY IMPORTANT TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU SEPARATE EVERYTHING THE WAY IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE, BECAUSE IF IT'S CONTAMINATED THAT INCREASED COSTS, SOMETIMES THEY MAY NOT EVEN TAKE IT BECAUSE IT'S CONTAMINATED. SO THAT'S WHY IT'S SO IMPORTANT TO MAKE SURE EVERYBODY DOES DO THEIR PART TO SEPARATE THE WAY IT NEEDS TO BE. UM, BREAK DOWN YOUR BOXES. AGAIN, IT COME COMPACTS BETTER. UM, WHEN YOU HAVE ALL THE BOXES BROKEN DOWN. SO AGAIN, I KNOW THESE, YOU SEE THE TENDENCY OUT THERE, PLEASE BE NICE AND KIND TO THEM. THEY ARE JUST DOING THEIR JOB TO REMIND YOU OF THE BEST WAY TO PUT EVERYTHING INTO THE DISPOSAL. AND THEY'RE OUT THERE IN ALL KINDS OF WEATHER, ALL KINDS OF HEAT. AND IT'S JUST VERY, VERY IMPORTANT TO BE NICE TO THEM BECAUSE THEY, LIKE YOU SAID, THEY ARE JUST [00:10:01] DOING WHAT THEY'RE NOW GOING BACK. OKAY. SO NOW WE TURN SOME FOLKS AWAY EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE, I'LL DRIVE OUT, ESPECIALLY AROUND CHRISTMAS TIME. I'D SEE YOU IN FRONT OF THE GATES AT THE RECYCLING CENTER, JUST PILES AND PILES OF STUFF. YEAH. UM, THAT'S NOT COOL. IT'S NOT, NO, IT'S NOT. AND WE KNOW THAT WITH THE NEW DECAMPED PROGRAM, YOU'RE GOING TO HAVE THINGS THAT ARE GOING TO HAPPEN. UM, BUT WE DO ASK THAT YOU'D BE PATIENT WITH US. WE ARE GOING TO BE WORKING THROUGH THIS. THIS IS NEW TO US AS WELL. UM, WE'RE GOING TO FIND WAYS TO DEAL WITH THE ILLEGAL DUMPING. UM, SO WE DO HAVE, WE DO HAVE CAMERAS ON SITE. UM, ALSO OUR TENANTS CAN GET THE, UM, LICENSE PLATE NUMBER. IF YOU KNOW, THEY HAPPEN TO SEE IT. UM, AND THEN OUR LITTER ENFORCEMENT WILL GO OUT AND FIND THE PERSON AND, YOU KNOW, EDUCATE. THEY'RE PRETTY GOOD AT THAT TOO. I ACTUALLY DID A SHOW WITH THEM YEARS AGO IN COUNTY CHANNEL FIRST STARTED AND THEY'D GO OUT AND GO THROUGH. LITERALLY THE OFFICERS WOULD GO THROUGH THE TRASH AND FIND SOMETHING THAT WOULD LINK THEM BACK TO THE LETTER. AND IT'S PRETTY EASY TO TRACK IT DOWN. SOMETIMES IT IS, YOU KNOW, THIS IS, THIS IS OUR COUNTY AND WE GOT TO TAKE CARE OF IT AND TAKE CARE OF OUR ENVIRONMENT. SO, UM, THEY DO THEIR, THEIR JOB DEFINITELY INVESTIGATING TO FIND OUT WHO IT BELONGED TO. EXCELLENT. NOW, UM, REAL QUICK. UM, IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I MIGHT HAVE MISSED? I DON'T BELIEVE SO. JUST EVERYONE, PLEASE REMEMBER TO GET YOUR DECALS. UM, THOSE ARE GONNA BE SO SUPER IMPORTANT. COME JANUARY NOW. HOW DO I GO AGAIN? HOW DO I GO ABOUT GETTING MY, MY DETAILS? SO STARTING MID OCTOBER, YOU CAN EITHER GO TO THE CONVENIENCE CENTER OR YOU CAN GO ONLINE. UM, IF YOU'RE GOING TO THE CONVENIENCE CENTER, YOU CAN FILL IT OUT AND HAND IT BACK TO THE ATTENDANT AND THEY'LL MAKE SURE THAT IT GETS BACK TO US. OKAY. AND YOU JUST NEED A PHYSICAL RESIDENCE IN BUFORD COUNTY. YOU WILL. SO THE INFORMATION ON THERE IS PRETTY BASIC, UM, TELEPHONE NUMBER, NAME, EMAIL ADDRESS, IF YOU HAVE ONE, THE ADDRESS, BUT YOU'RE ALSO GOING TO NEED YOUR A I N THAT COMES OFF OF YOUR TAX BILL. UM, SO IT SHOULD BE ON THERE IF IT'S NOT, YOU CAN ACTUALLY LOOK CUT UP THROUGH THE COUNTY WEBSITE. YUP. THE RIGHT ON THE TAX BILL. SO THAT'S HOW THEY IDENTIFY YOUR PROPERTY TO KNOW YOU ACTUALLY LIVE IN BUFORD COUNTY. ALL RIGHT. SO WE GOT TO HAVE A DECAL. WE'RE GETTING JANUARY ONE. WE'RE GOING TO START THIS TWO TRIPS A WEEK, TWO TRIPS. AND I THINK THAT IS IT. THANK YOU ANGEL SO MUCH FOR JOINING. OF COURSE THEY CAN CALL. YOU WANT TO GIVE A NUMBER THAT THEY CAN CALL AT SOLID WASTE IF ANYBODY HAS ANY QUESTIONS. SURE. UM, I CAN BE REACHED AT EIGHT FOUR THREE TWO FIVE FIVE 29. AND OF COURSE THEY CAN GO TO THE BEAVER COUNTY, SC.GOV AND LOOK THAT UP AS WELL. CORRECT AGAIN, THANK YOU FOR JOINING US. AND WE'LL BE RIGHT BACK MORNING, DEBBIE COOK COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE. RECENTLY, I STOPPED YOU, SIR. YOU THROW YOUR CIGARETTE BUTT OUT THE WINDOW. THAT'S LITTER IN THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA. YOU HAVE YOUR LICENSE, REGISTRATION AND INSURANCE. YES, SIR. AND WELCOME BACK TO COASTLINE, STILL TALKING TRASH, BUT NOW WE'RE GOING TO TALK ABOUT RECYCLING THAT TRASH AND THIS ISN'T MY NORMAL DESK, BUT IT SORT OF LOOKS LIKE MY DESKTOP, BUT I'M ASHLEY JENKINS IS HERE FROM THE SOLID WASTE AND RECYCLING. AND WE'RE GOING TO BE TALKING ABOUT RECYCLING NOW AND A LOT OF THE MISCONCEPTIONS, A LOT OF THINGS. SO LET'S JUST, UM, LET'S JUST TALK ABOUT ALL OF THESE ARE ALL OF THESE RECYCLABLES, NOT EVERYTHING IS RECYCLABLE, BUT SOME THINGS ARE, UM, AT THE COUNTY, WE LIKE TO SAY THE BIG FIVES AND ONE OF THE THINGS, UM, THAT ARE RECYCLABLE. SO YOU HAVE YOUR WATER BOTTLES, THOSE OF RECYCLE. UM, YOU HAVE YOUR CANS, YOU HAVE YOUR BOTTLE JUGS AND JARS ONES AND TWOS. UM, YOU HAVE YOUR GLASS, YOU HAVE MAKES PAPER, UM, A BIG THING ALSO. UM, WE KNOW WE'VE WENT TO, UM, USING BROWN BAGS. THESE ARE RECYCLABLE. UM, SO I'M MIXED CARDBOARD, PLASTIC BOTTLES ONE'S AND TWO'S BOUGHT A DOZEN SARS, ALUMINUM CANS, STEEL CANS, AND GLASS. THOSE ARE, UM, RECYCLING. AND THE MORE YOU RECYCLE, [00:15:01] THE MORE STAYS OUT OF THE LANDFILL AND THE LESS BUFORD COUNTY PAYS TO SHIP ALL THIS STUFF TO, TO THE LANDFILL AT THAT POINT. SO, YOU KNOW, WHEN YOU RECYCLE, IT'S A GREAT THING, BECAUSE ONCE AGAIN, IT SAVES ENERGY, YOU HIT IT ON THE HEAD. IT'S NOT GOING INTO THE LANDFILL. AND ONE OF THE GREAT THINGS ABOUT RECYCLING IS YOU GET NEW PRODUCTS. SO I'M ONE OF THE THINGS, WHEN YOU RECYCLE THIS PLASTIC BOTTLE, YOU CAN GET A TOY. UM, THIS IS, UM, I'D LIKE TO CALL FUZZ THE WAS, AND HE WAS LITERALLY MADE OUT OF 100% PLASTIC BOTTLES. AND THEN ALSO YOU CAN GET CLOTHING CARPETING IN YOUR CAR. SO IT'S A REALLY GOOD THING, UM, FOR US TO RECYCLE, UM, FOR OUR AREA. YEAH, ABSOLUTELY. NOW WHEN I GO TO RECYCLE, LIKE I'VE SEEN, UM, LET'S TALK A PLASTIC BOTTLE. ALL RIGHT. SO I GET CONFUSED. DO YOU SOME SAY YOU HAVE TO TAKE THE LABEL OFF CAP OFF. WHAT IS THE STORY WITH THE, SO WITH OUR CONTRACT, WE WORK WITH WASTE MANAGEMENT AND WORKING WITH WASTE MANAGEMENT. YOU CAN LEAVE THE LABEL ON, YOU CAN ALSO LEAVE YOUR TAP CAP ON, UM, MAKE SURE THAT CAP IS SECURED. SO WHEN IT GOES THROUGH THE PROCESSING, IT DOESN'T FLY OFF. UM, BUT YOU JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE, UM, I KNOW A LOT OF TIMES WE SAY ONES AND TWOS, YOU LOOK, MAKE SURE IT'S A BOTTLE JUG AND JAR. I CAN'T EMPHASIZE THAT MORE BECAUSE A LOT OF THE TIMES, A LOT OF PEOPLE LIKE TO SAY WISH RECYCLING. YOU KNOW, THEY WISH ALL THE PLASTICS WOULD BE RECYCLED. UM, YOU HAVE TO KNOW YOUR AREA, YOU HAVE TO KNOW YOUR MARKET IN, IN OUR AREA. WE HAVE A MARKET FOR BOTTLE JUGS AND JARS. SO YOU FLIP THAT OVER. YOU FIND OUT, OKAY, IS THIS BOTTLE ONE AND TWO, IF IT IS, YOU CAN RECYCLE IT RATCHET. AND IT'S, IT'S THE LITTLE ARROW THING. WE'LL PUT THAT LOGO UP ON THE SCREEN RIGHT NOW AND SHOW PEOPLE WHAT THAT ACTUALLY LOOKS LIKE, BUT IT HAS THE LITTLE ARROWS ON IT. AND IT'LL TELL YOU WHICH ONE AND ARE, ARE THOSE NUMBERS THEN CORRESPONDING TO OUT AT THE, UH, AT THE SITES? YES. SO OUT OF THE SITES, WE HAVE ACTUALLY NICE SIGNAGE THAT SAYS ONES AND TWOS, BOTTLE JUGS, AND JARS, AND YOU CAN LOOK AND MAKE SURE THAT, UM, THAT CORRESPONDS WITH YOUR RETIREMENT. NOW, I KNOW WE WERE OUT AT THE SITE THE OTHER DAY BECAUSE THERE'S, SOME OF THE, A COUPLE OF PLACES ARE GOING TO CLOSE AND THINGS ARE, ARE CHANGING WITH THE STICKERS AND SUCH. WE TALKED ABOUT THAT EARLIER IN THE SHOW I SAW THOUGH, YOU CAN OIL, YOU CAN RECYCLE TIRES, YOU CAN RECYCLE. UM, I, UM, WELL FILTERS, COOKING, UM, GREECE, UM, OYSTER SHELLS. SO THERE'S CERTAINLY A LOT OF THINGS THAT CAN BE RECYCLED. UM, AT OUR, WE HAVE THE TIRES, THAT'S A LIMIT, UM, WITH THE TIRES YOU BRING, UM, FOR A DAY, UM, YOU DO YOUR USED OLD FOR THOSE THAT ARE, UM, CHANGING OUT THE, ALL THE OUT OF THE CARS. YOU CAN RECYCLE THOSE, THOSE OIL FILTERS. UM, YOU CAN BRING THEM, UM, THE USE COOKING GREASE. UM, WE ACTUALLY HAVE A NATIONAL CAMPAIGN THAT'S COMING OUT. WE KNOW THANKSGIVING, EVERYBODY LIKES TO COOK THAT TURKEY FRY, THAT TURKEY, INSTEAD OF, UM, TRYING TO THROW AWAY THE GREASE, BRING IT TO THE CONVENIENCE CENTER, MAKE SURE IT'S RECYCLED. EXCELLENT. NOW, AS THE CONVENIENCE CENTERS MOVED TO, UM, THE, THE STICKER, WHICH EVERYBODY'S GOING TO HAVE TO HAVE THE DECAL SYSTEM, UM, WILL THEY STILL BE ABLE TO RECYCLE? SO IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A DECAL SYSTEM, YOU CAN STILL RECYCLE, BUT THERE WILL BE LIMITED. YOU CAN RECYCLE AT THE BLUFFTON CONVENIENCE CENTER OR THE SHANKLIN CONVENIENCE. NOW, OTHER THAN RECYCLING, WE DO HAVE SOME OTHER WAYS OF, UM, OF, FOR LACK OF A BETTER TERM RECYCLING. AND WE HAVE, UM, THIS GUY RIGHT HERE. SO THIS IS OUR COMPOST BIN. AND, UM, COMPOSTING IS A GREAT THING TO DO BECAUSE THAT'S ALSO ANOTHER, UM, WAY OF KEEPING THAT FOOD PRODUCT OUT OF THE, TO THE LANDFILL AND TAKING IT, MAKING SURE YOUR FOOD BREAKS DOWN. AND WE LIKE TO CALL THAT BLACK GOLD AND YOU CAN PUT IT BACK INTO YOUR GARDEN, UM, OR PUT IT INTO YOUR YARD. UM, THESE COMPOST BINS, UM, WE ACTUALLY HAD A GRANT A COUPLE YEARS AGO WITH END UP GETTING THEM, UM, AND WE SELL THEM FOR $50. USUALLY THEY'RE ON THE MARKET FOR OVER A HUNDRED DOLLARS. SO WE GET THEM $50. WE ALSO GIVE A BROCHURE, LET THE CITIZENS KNOW WHAT YOU CAN AND CAN'T PUT IN, UM, OUT OF IT, PLEASE GO TO OUR WEBSITE, UM, BUFORD COUNTY AS SEE THAT GOV SLASH RECYCLE AND, UM, TO FIND OUT MORE INFORMATION ABOUT IT. SURE. SO YOU JUST OPENED THE LID, YOU PUT WHAT CAN BE PUT IN THE COMBOS, AND THIS IS EITHER IN YOUR YARD, ON YOUR PORCH, WHEREVER YOU WANT TO PUT IT. AND THEN YOU JUST GO AHEAD. AND SO THIS ONE IS NOT OUR TURN. YOU DON'T WANT TO PUT IT ON YOUR PORCH. YOU WANT TO DEFINITELY MAKE SURE YOU PUT IT IN YOUR YARD, SECURE IT. UM, AND THEN THIS ONE, CAUSE THAT'S A LOT OF QUESTIONS THEY'LL SAY, WELL, CAN THIS SELF TURN IT? DOES IT SELF TURN THIS NEW SPINNER, UM, INSIDE THIS ONE CONTACT Y'ALL IF THEY WANT, YES, PLEASE. UM, CONTACT. WE ACTUALLY ON OUR WEBSITE, WE HAVE A NEW BUTTON WHERE YOU CAN CLICK GET A COMPOST BIN AND SETS UP AN APPOINTMENT AND GO FROM THERE AND I'LL CONTACT YOU. YEAH. NOW, AS FAR AS THE PLASTIC BAGS, LIKE THE PLASTIC BAG, RECYCLING NOW ARE ALL THE PLASTIC BAGS YOU SEE [00:20:01] COMING FROM, UM, THE DIFFERENT STORES RECYCLABLE. UM, SO THAT'S, THESE PLASTIC BAGS ARE LITERALLY CALLED FILM. OKAY. SO WE CALL THIS A FILM PRODUCT. UM, FILM CAN BE RECYCLED, BUT IT SHOULD NOT GO IN THE CONTAINER WHERE YOU PUT THOSE BOTTLE JUGS WITH JARS. UM, IT SHOULD BE SOURCED SEPARATED. WE ACTUALLY HAVE AT OUR BLUFFTON, OUR SHANKLIN, OUR ST HELENA AND A HILTON HILTON HEAD CONVENIENCE CENTER. UH, WE ACTUALLY HAVE A PLACE WHERE YOU CAN TAKE THAT FILM AND WE CALL THAT A SPECIALTY PLASTIC. UM, YOU CAN ALSO TAKE, UM, ZIPLOC BAGS, AS LONG AS THEY'RE CLEAN AND DRY. YOU CAN PUT THAT IN THERE. UM, YOU CAN PUT THE, UM, PLASTIC, THE CASING OVER YOUR WATER BOTTLES. UM, EVEN THE PLASTIC OVER YOUR PAPER TOWELS. YOU CAN ACTUALLY USE THAT PRODUCT AND RECYCLE IT. BUT ONCE AGAIN, IT HAS TO BE SOURCED SEPARATED. IT SHOULD NOT GO IN YOUR CURBSIDE BIN. UM, IT SHOULD LITERALLY GO INTO A SPECIAL BIN THAT SAYS PLASTIC FILM RECYCLING. GOTCHA. AND IF YOU DON'T WANT THE PLASTIC BAGS, OBVIOUSLY, SO THE PAPER BAG IS AN OPTION AT SOME STORES AND WE HAPPEN TO JUST HAVE 'EM. YOU CAN BRING YOUR OWN BAG. WE JUST HAPPENED TO THE LITTLE BRANDING HERE, BUT, UH, WE HAPPEN TO HAVE THESE THAT WE, WE GOT WHEN THE BAG BAN WENT INTO EFFECT THAT WE WERE GIVING OUT AND SOME STORES HAVE THESE FOR SALE AND SUCH. YEAH. IT'S DEFINITELY A GOOD THING. UM, WE ALSO WANT TO TALK ABOUT, UM, YOU KNOW, THAT REDUCTION AND WE WANT TO MAKE SURE WE REDUCE OUR WASTE. SO YES, IF YOU ARE NOT USING THAT BROWN BAG OR THAT THICKER MILL PLASTIC, DEFINITELY BRING YOUR REUSABLE BAG. GOTCHA. NOW THE, LIKE THE, I SEE A CARDBOARD BOX. ALL RIGHT. SO THE CARDBOARD BOX, YOU WENT, YOU GET IT. AND THERE'S ALSO A BAG INSIDE THAT CARDBOARD BOX. YOU JUST FOLD THE WHOLE THING UP AND THROW IT IN THE RECYCLE. NO. SO THAT WOULD BE CONSIDERED CONTAMINATION. WHEN THAT BAG INSIDE, YOU WANT TO TAKE IT OUT, THROW THAT BAG AWAY. UM, AND THEN YOU CAN RECYCLE, WE CONSIDER THIS A MIXED PAPER PRODUCT. OKAY. SO YOU WANT TO JUST FLATTEN IT AND THEN TAKE IT ON TO THE CONVENIENCE CENTER OR PUT IT IN YOUR CURBSIDE AND THEN ANOTHER MISCONCEPTION. AND I ACTUALLY FOUND THIS OUT WHEN OUR PRE-INTERVIEW, UM, IF I GO OUT AND I GET MY, UH, MY FOOD FROM SOMEWHERE AND IT COMES IN A STYROFOAM CONTAINER NOW, WHAT DO I DO WITH THAT STYROFOAM CONTAINER? STYROFOAM CONTAINER IS NOT RECYCLABLE. UM, IN THIS AREA YOU MIGHT GO TO ANOTHER AREA AND FIND THAT PRODUCT IS RECYCLABLE, BUT KNOW THAT BECAUSE A LOT OF TIMES IT'S, UM, MIXED WITH FOOD. IT HAS THAT, UM, RESIDUE. IT JUST GOES INTO THE TRASH. THAT SHOULD NOT GO IN, UM, YOUR RECYCLED BAGS AND THE SAME THING WITH THE BOTTLED WATERS OR BOTTLED DRINKS. YOU WANT TO EMPTY THOSE OUT BEFORE YOU PUT THOSE IN THE RECYCLING BIN. UM, LIKE TO SAY, UM, MAKE SURE IT'S CLEAN AND DRY. OKAY. SO, UM, ONE OF THE THINGS, UM, THAT WE HAVE OR MISCONCEPTION THAT SAY, OH, WELL, EVERYTHING IS RECYCLED. ONCE AGAIN, WE LIKE TO CALL THAT WISH RECYCLING. AND, UM, WHEN THERE IS WATER OR ANY RESIDUE, PLEASE CONSIDER THAT CONTAMINATION. GOTCHA. NOW THE STAR BAN ALSO SAY, IF I GO BUY A LARGE SCREEN TV AT WALMART, IT COMES PACKED IN STYROFOAM. ALSO GET THOSE METAL CLIPS. WHAT, WHAT DO WE DO WITH THAT? WE JUST BRING THE WHOLE BOX, OR SO ONCE AGAIN, EMPTY THAT BOX, THROW AWAY THE THINGS THAT ARE INSIDE. AND IF THERE'S LIKE PAPER OR THE INSTRUCTIONS, USER PAPER, YOU CAN RECYCLE THAT PAPER, BUT THE CLIPS, UM, THE STAR FILM THAT NEEDS TO GO IN YOUR HOUSEHOLD GARBAGE, YOU CAN RECYCLE THAT CARDBOARD BOX SO WE CAN TAKE THE STYROFOAM OUT. WE TAKE THE CLIPS OFF OF IT IF WE CAN. AND THEN OBVIOUSLY NOBODY, AT LEAST WE DON'T READ INSTRUCTIONS. SO WE THROW THOSE AWAY TO RECYCLE THOSE ON THE SIDES. EXACTLY. EXACTLY. NOW, JUST BRIEFLY IN THE TIME WE'VE GOT LEFT, LET'S TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT, UM, ELECTRONICS. YES. OKAY. UH, DON'T THROW THOSE JUST IN THE DUMPSTER NOW. SO CAROLINA ACTUALLY HAS A LAW, A BAN THAT YOU CAN NOT PUT LIKE THE TV MONITORS AND THE COMPUTER MONITORS. SO THAT'S WHY WE OFFER, UM, ELECTRONIC EVENTS EVERY QUARTER. UM, AND SO OUR NEXT ONE THAT IS COMING UP IS DECEMBER THE 12TH. WE USUALLY HAVE IT ON OUR BUFORD SITE AND OUR BLUFFTON SITE. UM, MY BEEF HERD IS ONE 40 SHANKLIN AND OUR BLUFFTON IS NINE BITTEN FIELD ROAD. SO WE IN USUALLY THE TIME IS FROM NINE TO THREE. SO WE ENCOURAGE EVERYONE. YOU HAVE THAT TV, YOU HAVE THAT COMPUTER, BRING IT ON. UM, WE DEFINITELY WANT TO GET YOUR ELECTRONICS RECYCLED. PERFECT. AND THE OYSTER CELL RECYCLING. WE WERE TALKING ABOUT THAT EARLIER, JUST BRIEFLY, BUT WHERE CAN YOU RECYCLE THE OYSTER? SO WHICH ARE YOUR CELLS? UM, UM, THAT'S USUALLY A SOUTH CAROLINA DNR, UM, AND THEY HAVE LOCATIONS SET UP AT OUR ST. HELENA R B FOR COUNTY PUBLIC WORKS. AND PLEASE GO ONTO OUR WEBSITE AND FIND OUT MORE INFORMATION. ALL RIGHT. NOW I KNOW WE USED TO DO, UM, THE, UM, MEDICAL RECYCLING, THE DRUG RECYCLING. IT'S STILL THERE, BUT, UM, AND WE'LL RUN A PROMO AT THE END TO SHOW YOU WHERE TO DO THAT, BUT THAT'S DONE. THAT IS NO, THAT IS DONE THROUGH THE SHERIFF OFFICE CONTACT THE LOCAL SHERIFF OFFICE. THEY HAVE, UM, DROP CONTAINERS FOR YOUR MEDICAL, UM, FOR MEDICAL RECYCLING, AND USUALLY IT'S AT THE BLUFFTON. UM, BUFORD'S AND ALSO I BELIEVE AT THE HILTON HEAD SHERIFF [00:25:01] OFFICE AS WELL. GOTCHA. NOW LET'S TALK ABOUT NOW, THESE I'VE BEEN SITTING IN FRONT OF ME AND THEY'RE ACTUALLY MAKING ME HUNGRY AT THIS POINT. SO TELL ME ABOUT, TELL ME ABOUT THESE. SO WE CALL THESE OUR, UM, BURY CONTAINERS, CLAMSHELL CONTAINERS. UM, AND I SEE A LOT OF THESE CONTAINERS AT OUR, UM, CONVENIENCE CENTER AND THEY SHOULD NOT BE RECYCLED ONCE AGAIN, BOTTLE JUGS AND JARS ONES AND TWOS. UM, WE DO NOT HAVE, UM, AN AREA OR A MARKET FOR THIS IN OUR AREA NOW. UM, ONE OF THE THINGS I LIKE TO STRESS IS IF YOU HAVE A CONTRACT WITH MAYBE YOUR CITY OR YOUR LOCAL AREA, WHERE YOU CAN PUT THESE MAYBE IN YOUR CURBSIDE, BUT GET WHAT YOUR LOCAL HALL OR FIND OUT, IF YOU CAN RECYCLE THESE, UM, IN YOUR CURBSIDE CONTAINER, BUT AT THE BUFORD COUNTY CONVENIENCE CENTERS, THESE ARE NOT RECYCLABLE. UM, ONE ANOTHER THING IS PLASTIC ANGERS. UM, I CAN'T STRESS THIS ENOUGH. I LIKE TO SAY WISH RECYCLING. WE WISH THESE ITEMS WERE RECYCLED, BUT THEY'RE NOT. IT'S IMPORTANT. GIVE ME A CALL, FIND OUT IF THE ITEM IS RECYCLABLE OR NOT. SO, UM, I CALL THESE A NO NOS AND I'LL CALL THIS A YES. SO YEAH. GOTCHA. NOW ONE REAL QUICK, ONE, UM, YEARS AGO WHEN I WAS GROWING UP, YOU COULD RECYCLE A COCA-COLA BOUT REAL GLASS. SO YES, GLASS, UM, STILL RECYCLE. UM, WE WANT TO MAKE SURE BRING YOUR GLASS, BUT MAKE SURE THAT TOP IS OFF. UM, JUST LIKE, YOU KNOW, YOU WERE SEEING BACK IN YOUR DAY THAT GLASS WAS RECYCLED. IT'S STILL A HOT PRODUCT IS STILL, UM, A HUNDRED PERCENT RECYCLABLE. UM, IT'S A VIRGIN MATERIAL THAT CAN CONTINUE TO BE RECYCLED OVER AND OVER AGAIN. SO YES. BRING YOUR GLASSES GREAT. YEAH. NOW AGAIN, A LOT OF CHANGES ARE GOING ON WITH SOLID AND RECYCLING. YES. CAN THEY GO TO A SITE TO FIGURE OUT WHAT'S GOING ON IN THESE? YEAH. GO TO BEAVER COUNTY, SC.GOV/RECYCLE. UM, AND YOU CAN FIND OUT MORE OF INFORMATION. WHAT IS ACCEPTABLE AND WHAT'S NOT ACCEPTABLE. AND THIS IS MY NUMBER. GIVE ME A CALL. GOTCHA. AND YOU HAVE A BROCHURE I SEE HERE. SO WE ENDED UP DOING A GREAT, UM, NEW KIND OF INFORMATION BROCHURE. IT'S A RECYCLE, UM, RESIDENTIAL RECYCLING AND WASTE DISPOSAL GUY. IT HAS ALL THE INFORMATION, UM, WHAT IS SENSIBLE AND NOT ACCEPTABLE. AND OF COURSE YOU HAVE LIKE WRAPPED CAR THAT DRIVES AROUND AND IT'S SINCERE. SO STOP ASHLEY SOMEWHERE AND JUST CONQUER HARM, PULL ME OVER AND I'LL ASK WHATEVER ANSWER, WHATEVER YOU NEED TO BE ANSWERED, OR WE'LL HAVE TO BRING RERUN ON THE SHOW AT SOME POINT WE NEED TO. ABSOLUTELY. WELL, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR JOINING US AGAIN, THAT CAN GO TO THE WEBSITE AND FIND OUT ALL ABOUT THE NEW CHANGING TIMES AT THE SITES THEY CAN FIND OUT ABOUT RECYCLING. CALL US WHATEVER WE NEED TO DO TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION. I'M SURE WE CAN FIGURE THAT OUT. YES, I WOULD LOVE IT. PLEASE CONTACT ME ANYTIME. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR JOINING US AGAIN. THANK YOU FOR JOINING US FROM COASTLINE. WE WILL SEE YOU NEXT TIME. WHAT CAN YOU DO TO KEEP YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS SAFE? DON'T PROVIDE EASY ACCESS, ESPECIALLY TO NARCOTIC MEDICATIONS, INVENTORY, YOUR MEDICINE CABINETS, ESPECIALLY CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES, SAFELY DISCARD, OUTDATED, OR UNUSED MEDICATIONS PROPERLY. DID YOU KNOW BUFORD COUNTY HAS MANY LOCATIONS FOR YOU TO DISPOSE YOU ARE OUTDATED OR UNUSED MEDICATIONS. * This transcript was created by voice-to-text technology.
